Negative experience: Joke of a dentist. Can’t even keep his records of payment and credits correctly. And yes. I have all the proof! He charged me more to replace the onlay the second time than he did the first, which HE did! Charge me more for your first shoddy job? Horrible business man, great staff. And if you want to send me a cease and desist letter, send it! I’ll request a hearing immediately. I will show my payments, treatments, lies about how much things will cost and your threatening letter of turning me into a collection agency. Which within your time frame is illegal medically in Minnesota. And no one wants a dog running around a dental office with your mouth wide open… Some of us have allergies. I have three former employees of yours to testify against you.

Fantastic experience: Great staff and the Dentist did a tarific job explaining my x-rays to me and cleaning my teeth. If you're looking for a new dentist like I was, I totally recommend Wayzata Dental!

Negative experience: I came in for the service, but only the bottom teeth were cleaned, and the prophylaxis tool was not functioning (air compressor failed to spin the tool head). After that, the cleaning was abandoned halfway through, never finished, and then I was told to my face “I cleaned all your teeth”. No, only my bottom teeth were cleaned. Lied to my face repeatedly. Gaslighting in the highest degree.

Booking my appointment online was super simple, and everything was clearly communicated leading up to my visit. It was my first dental appointment in quite a while, and the staff couldn’t have been more supportive. Everyone I interacted with was warm, professional, and genuinely kind. They took the time to answer my questions and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. I left feeling not only well taken care of, but also motivated to stay on top of my dental health. Highly recommend—especially if it’s been a minute since your last visit to the dentist. This is the place to go.

Negative experience: Before you sign the “Treatment Plan” read the fine print. It authorizes Dr. McDowell to automatically charge your credit card for any unpaid balance not covered by insurance. You’ll receive no notice or explanation of charges. I went to the office to get an itemization, as he didn’t return my calls. Not good.

Negative experience: Great experience! I was overdue for an appt and they made everything go very smoothly. EDIT: I have been charged without authorization and incorrectly 3 separate times now. The first time they said it was “an accident” but it seems like this has been happening to other people as well. The latest I was charged randomly, as I decided not to go back after they suspiciously charged me last time. I have sent an email, called multiple times, and chatted from their website with no replies at all about this $480 charge, that I was charged on a Saturday morning at 9am. I also have my insurance PDF saying exactly what I owed and these amounts were completely random. I do NOT recommend Wayzata Dental

Negative experience: I have been charged multiple times on my credit card with zero notice or invoice, totaling over $3,000. When I try to understand why, they talk in circles and I’m still waiting for my $600+ refund they said was charged “by accident”. Very suspicious activity and I see I am not the only one this is happening to in the reviews.

Negative experience: On May 19th (on a sunday), I received a notification of $168 charge on my credit card from this office. I haven't been there in 2 years for any service. I call their office the following Monday and talked to the person who answered the phone. I asked what the charge was. Her reply was "sales tax" from my previous services. It took 2 years to realize you forgot to charge sales tax?...I received no email, call nor a text regarding this charge whatsoever. I work in retail and have never charged a customer without their knowledge, let alone from 2 years ago. I asked the gal, why the charge now and her reply was, they are charging all previous patients that didn't get charged a tax. I told her, ok, but this isnt' legal and I will be refute the charge and take further action. I called AG office and they told me to file a complaint and check the MN Dept of Revenue. And sure enough your dentist CANNOT charge sales tax for dental work/service. They can charge you for toothbrushes, extra work like whitening service, etc. i called the next day explaing this, but the gal told me on the phone, the dentist disagrees with the tax. I told them, not only i lost your trust, but to run my card without my authorizaition is beyond illegal. I just received a letter from AG office to let me know the dentist replied back. The Dentist claimed it was a "internal accounting error". That's not what i was told. But you all can fit the pieces together why the story "changed". You got caught and thought it was no big deal, but after the state AG contacted you, you blame it was just an "error"...LMFAO. Um, NO.

Fantastic experience: Dr. McDowell and the staff were very kind and courteous. I appreciated that they use the latest technology in dentistry.

Negative experience: I purchased a Groupon from Wayzata Dental that advertised an all-inclusive new patient visit — exam, cleaning, and X-rays. The deal claimed to cover everything, with no indication of extra costs. But instead of a professional, transparent experience, I was hit with a $172.04 surprise charge for “additional imaging” that was never discussed or approved. Then, a month later, I was charged another $17.30 again, with no explanation. That’s over $190 in hidden fees tacked on to what was supposed to be a simple, fixed-price deal. At no point was I informed in advance or asked to consent to these charges. This is incredibly dishonest. After feeling completely uncomfortable with their deceptive behavior, I chose not to return for any follow-ups. Instead, I went to a different dental office for a proper cleaning and they were stunned. The second dentist told me that the “cleaning” Wayzata Dental had done was poorly performed, it looked like nothing had been done at all. They described the situation as unethical and deceitful, and said this kind of conduct reflects very poorly on the dental profession. This bait-and-switch tactic is exploitative to new patients for more money and their Groupon offer is misleading, their billing practices are unethical, and the care I received was substandard at best. If you value honest treatment and ethical care, do not go to Wayzata Dental. I regret ever stepping foot in their office.

Negative experience: I would not recommend Wayzata Dental. I experienced very unusual business practices. For example, they asked me to give a 5-star Google review in return for a free fluoride treatment (I had to write the review as I sat in the chair). And most disturbing is that my credit card was randomly charged hundreds of dollars over the last two years (refunded after I consulted legal advice and the most recent one I reported as fraud to my credit card company). The dental work I had performed needed to be redone by next provider. And some alarming issues were raised when I contacted our insurance company about claims for my husband. It appears our insurance company was charged for fillings that my husband doesn't even have.

Fantastic experience: I really loved my visit at Wayzata Dental. Dr. Jason and his assistant did a great job cleaning and whitening my teeth. They also answered all questions that I had. I am very happy that I could schedule my appointment very quickly. Thank you guys, I will definitely come back!

Negative experience: When your bank shows a charge from your dentist, and you haven't seen them for awhile and don't owe any money, you can thank Wayzata dental "because the doctor needed to pay taxes". Like the colorful glasses, though. And nice people—really.

Fantastic experience: This is a small office with all of the latest technology. Their laser and peizo tool are incredible. I had a deep cleaning today and they used numbing gel and warm water for my sensitive teeth. It was amazing! I have found my new dentist!

Negative experience: I got two fillings replaced here and unfortunately the quality was quite bad. I was genuinely shocked by how fast the whole procedure took, he did not take his time whatsoever. I was unable to floss between the teeth and the fillings were so bumpy and uneven. I went in to another dentist and the one filling was cracked and you could visibly see that it wasn’t sealed on the x-ray. I ended up having it replaced. The other filling has been causing me serious issues now too. It isn’t properly sealed either and is now cracked. I’ll be having that one redone too. They also told me at the time of my visit that my insurance will cover it. Fast forward 7 months, I randomly get a charge on my card with no consent or explanation. This whole ordeal has caused me so much stress, money and utter disappointment. I would highly recommend to stay away and to not get work done here!!!

Negative experience: Had their filling rechecked on a front tooth by my new dental office and they couldnt even figure out what they were looking at. The u of m school of dentistry couldn't figure out what he did bit they have to fix it and i have to wait 3 months due to insurance cant pay for same tooth 2 times. The dentist here seems to fix teeth poorly. He wants to prey on people with state insurance, my suggestion is go to u of m school of dentistry instead because at least you will get honest review of if you even needed a filling or not as they cover every tooth much better and really actually manually check them with care and proper diagnoses. Friendly receptionist in an empty room. There is a reason there is no wait to get in here lets just say. Dental tourism in mexico is another option too.
