Growing Healthy Smiles Pediatric Dentistry - Drs. Beth Kailes, Nicole Staman & Allison Johnston

Negative experience: I was hesitant to write this review because my children have been patients at Growing Healthy Smiles since before it was Growing Healthy Smiles. However, our appointment was disappointing and I feel it’s important to share for future considerations. Our current insurance plan, offered by my employer, is not accepted at this office. However, since my children have been long time patients, we chose to pay out of pocket for our 6 month check ups and cleanings. We choose abstain the fluoride and x-rays until the policy changes later this term. Before our appointment I completed the paperwork and selected no to fluoride treatment or X-rays, due to the out of pocket cost of approximately $400 per child. We arrived at our appointment 20 minutes early as suggested and out of respect for these medical professionals. The front desk confirmed we selected to forgo fluoride and X-rays for this appointment. We were led back by a very sweet dental hygienist and told that Dr. Johnston would not see my child since the last X-ray was completed a year ago. Our inadequate insurance coverage was discussed again and the hygienist patiently understood. However, we were told again that the dentist would not see my child and the routine teeth cleaning could not be completed without an x-ray. Could I have continued on and payed out of pocket, yes. However, It was not what we chose due to the expense and upcoming change of insurance policy and our decision was communicated before arrival at our appointment. There as so many disappointments my child’s teeth were not cleaned. Also, we waited for an appointment which required me to take off work from my job, just to have to reschedule. Most disappointing of all was that Dr. Johnston did not offer to speak with us herself or consider a discussion about why the x-ray was deemed medically necessary. I have the upmost respect for the hygienist who had to communicate the information and reschedule the appointment and respect the dentists in this practice. I think k they are truly caring about children and provide quality dental care. This was simply not a patient friendly visit. I hope that bringing attention to this concern allows patient’s and their families to be treated with a more consideration.

Fantastic experience: I took my daughter today for her first dentist appointment- she was brave, but still a little apprehensive. Our dental technician, Jillian, took her time to explain everything she was going to do before she did it and was rooting my daughter on the whole time. She made her first trip to the dentist such a positive experience. I am so grateful to her and the caring staff at the office. She deserves a raise!!! Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic experience: Have been going to Dr. Kailes for 15 years, she is worth the drive from Jacksonville. Sad we have aged out of pediatric dentistry and my efforts to have her accept adults did not work.

The dentist was patient, gentle, and explained everything clearly. We really enjoyed the child-friendly atmosphere with the TVs, games, and cozy blankets — it made the visit fun and relaxing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great pediatric dentist!

Fantastic experience: Immediately walking in the door my kids felt happy and excited, the environment is all about kids and you can tell the staff genuinely love coming to work daily. They walked my kids through every step and made sure they felt safe and answered any questions they had, even the silly ones. One of my favorite things as a parent was that they took all 3 of my kids at the same time as I walked room to room, anyone with 3 or more kids knows how time consuming appointments can be. I also loved that every room had a long comfy bench for waiting and every room has an x-ray machine so no walking here then to the room jumble. The doctors give no judgement just honest opinions and options, 10/10 will recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: Both my kiddo's love going to the dentist they even look forward to going. And that is because of growing healthy smiles and there amazing team! From check in to the easy flow of getting their cleanings and exams done and of course while they are watching Disney+. They saw Dr Johnston and Taylor and they both are exceptional with them.

Fantastic experience: Such an amazing group! All three of my kids go here and they love it! My kids are ranged from 1-7 years of age. We learn a lot, we have better dental hygiene, and we are treated like family! I highly recommend using these ladies as your family dentist!

Fantastic experience: Everyone was very engaging especially with the kiddos which is awesome to see! the environment is catered to kids and my 8 year old son had a blast in the gameroom/waiting room. He was very nervous about his appointment but by the time we were done he was wanting his sister to come check out this cool place!!! The faculty also very helpful from a parent standpoint, making sure I was well aware of everything going on and educating me on things that needed to be talked about. Totally great place and I am glad we got referred to them!

Fantastic experience: This is literally the best Dental Office. Everyone on staff is so friendly and nice. They take their time with each patient, Private rooms with seating for parents. The waiting area has a kid section full of tablet games, interactive games and you never wait longer than a few minutes for your appointment. Dr. Kailes is phenomenal and does such a good job with not only handling parent questions but the way she builds rapport with the patients makes the appointment so easy.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend!!! We had Vivian and Dr. Johnston. Our son has a harder time even getting in the chair and Vivian was able to atleast get him to sit while she let him hold the suction and just slowly introduce the equipment to him. I feel like it was a huge step for him and I appreciate both of their patience with him.

Fantastic experience: Had another great experience for my son’s (nearly 5 years old) teeth cleaning and exam. We had a new hygienist, Lorraina, and she was just as exceptional as our first two hygienists (Chabria and Alanna). My daughter (3 years old) came along so she could become comfortable with the dentist process. The hygienist didn’t skip a beat and was so sweet to our little girl. Also, had a different dentist, Dr. Staman, and she was amazing and great with both my kids as well. I highly recommend this practice for anyone looking for a great place for their child’s dental hygiene.

Fantastic experience: After experiencing a traumatic encounter at a horrible dental office my ASD daughter was terrified of going to a dentist again . We spent 2 years working through her fears . She has lots of dental issues with stubborn baby teeth that refuse to fall out and when one developed a cavity that then quickly turned into an abscess we had no choice but get her back into a dental office . I was so worried how she would fare but the entire staff at this office went above and beyond. They wanted to know every detail about her fears and past experiences to ensure they could help her experience be a positive one that made her feel safe as opposed to terrified . They were able to see her the same day I called while all the other dentists who advertised emergency after hours never called me back ! She had a filling , extraction and sealants done all in the same visit with only local anesthesia, no laughing gas and not gonna lie, she was scared, poor thing was shaking like a leaf, but not one tear shed and she did so great! The fear was from the past trauma so if you have a kiddo who is about to have their first dental experience, rest assured this establishment will make it a positive experience. I was in tears after she was done and couldn’t thank the staff enough for helping my daughter FINALLY overcome her debilitating fear of the dentist ! She has to go back for more work and because they made her feel so empowered and cared for she is actually looking forward to it. I can’t recommend them enough if you have a child with special needs or sensory issues. A million stars !

Fantastic experience: I could not have been more pleased with my experience at Growing Healthy Smiles Pediatric Dentistry. My grandson and I were greeted immediately with smiles & a welcoming atmosphere. Alana, our dental assistant, was patient, kind, knowledgeable & made us feel so comfortable. Dr Kailes is incredible!! She performed a comprehensive exam and treatment plan. She explained all the treatment; answering questions/concerns. She spoke directly to my grandson & made him feel valued. He already has developed a trust with her which is important moving forward with his treatment. Finally, at checkout, Jackie & Ana explained all the fees/cost and helped us find a plan for payment that fits our budget. Overall, it was a 5 STAR experience from beginning to end!! Fantastic experience: Absolutely happy we decided to change dental offices. Our visit was wonderful, the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful throughout the whole process. Dr Johnston and her assistant Bryanna (I hope I spelled correctly) were so wonderful with my daughter because she was nervous about a new place. They definitely make sure kids are comfortable from start to finish. Only downside is they are out-of-network; however, they make it extremely easy and we're very helpful when I asked about submitting a claim with our insurance company. If I could give 10 stars, I would!

Fantastic experience: Always a great experience! Everyone is so kind and helpful from the staff that schedules appointments, the staff when you check-in, the hygienists and the dentists. And my son LOVES the coin he gets when his appointment ends that he is able to use in one of the toy machines (like the gum-ball machines at restaurants). We live about a half hour away, but it is absolutely worth the drive a couple times a year.

The waiting room was vibrant and engaging, filled with colorful toys and interactive games that kept my little one entertained. The staff was friendly and welcoming, setting a great tone for our first visit. A special shout-out to Raelynn, who was amazing with my toddler. She made her feel comfortable and turned the cleaning process into an exciting adventure. Raelynn's ability to connect with kids is remarkable, and I'm grateful for her patience and kindness. Fantastic experience: I first went to Growing Healthy Smiles because it was the only place that could get my daughter in for an urgent visit. Even though it's nearly 2hrs away, we now go there for all of our children's dental needs. The technicians and doctors are absolutely delightful, kind, knowledgeable and simply wonderful. I won't be going anywhere else. The Staff all do a wonderful job of making each visit as bearable and even enjoyable as possible. They really know how to make an experience that has the potential to be scary, into just another visit. Normal. And as stated earlier, almost fun.

Trust is a big thing and they consistently earn and keep it from my family. Special shout-out to Raylynn. She makes the difference, always goes above and beyond and my kids love her. She's a 10/10. Her and Dr. K work so well together on my kids, its like a symphony. I especially love the transparency and communication and common sense options they always provide. Dr. K is also a 10/10. Highly recommend them!!

Fantastic experience: I took my 3 year old here recently. We saw Leian and Dr. Johnston. The staff were great! The front office staff were sweet, friendly, and attentive. There was a Disney movie playing, lots of toys, an interactive light game, and colorful, soft seating. They had a teeth brushing station right through the door and a large bathroom with a changing station. Our wait was short and we were able to fill out all of the forms ahead of time online! We saw Ms. Leian first and she was great with my son! She was patient with all of his wiggling and provided age appropriate explanations of everything she was doing before she did it. My son was giggling and smiling the whole time. I was able to stay with him throughout the whole process and when it was time to x-ray I was able to still stay in sight just outside the door. When came back in she did a wonderful job of explaining how we could improve my son’s dental routine and recommended small, doable changes that could greatly reduce his risk of cavities. Then Dr. Johnston came in and explained what services my son would need to keep his teeth healthy and strong. They both did an excellent job helping me understand what my options were and what actionable steps I could take. I am especially grateful to Ms. Leian for her compassion and warmth. I then spoke with Ms. Lindsey about different plans, options, and insurance considerations. She provided a diagram of what would be happening and what that would look like financially. She was very friendly and kind. Ultimately I definitely recommend this place!! It was worth the drive! The facilities are well maintained and there is more warmth to them than a typical clinical setting. My son enjoyed his time there. He never complained of any pain or discomfort. Other than needing to hold my hand here and there he was calm during the whole experience. 10/10

Fantastic experience: I am really disappointed that they are not in network with our insurance. My daughter had her cleaning with them recently and they were all great. I wish we could keep going there, but can't keep paying out of pocket.

Fantastic experience: I wish I could give them 10 stars. I am so happy I found this office for my autistic son. He had some baby teeth that just were not leaving the party and needed to have them extracted to make room for those grownup teeth pushing in. My boy has a severe needle phobia and anxiety about medical procedures in general. Dr. Kailes provides dental care in a neuro-affirming, empathetic and loving way. The support the doctor and staff automatically provide is amazing. They make my son feel heard and cared for the entire time he is there. He knows they will help him feel comfortable and pain free during every visit. I wish every medical office we walk into were as perfectly accommodating.

Fantastic experience: My daughter was anxious to go to the dentist. We had tried a few months ago and she wouldn't let the dental assistants or dentist do anything. This time we were able to get X-rays, a cleaning, floss and flouride. Everyone was so polite and accommodating to my daughter! My daughter is now excited to go back to the dentist!

Fantastic experience: Savannah's been coming here since she was probably 4 and she's 12 now. My daughter has Autism and it was difficult finding a dentist that dealt with Special Needs children. Not sure the name of this hygienist name but her customer service was off the charts. She made my daughter feel comfortable, and she was very professional. Highly recommend this practice to anyone, and we don't mind the 45 minute drive

Negative experience: Worse experience, dentist tried to extract teeth without properly numbing area. Should of made sure area was completely numb before trying to pull out my son teeth. He was so upset and does not want to extract any more teeth. He cried all the way home. Horrible experience... this experience was a zero. Prior visits were fine and everyone was nice. This last visit was shocking and very unpleasant. They should of done better before trying to pull out my son's teeth. Very disappointed now.

Fantastic experience: I can't express enough how wonderful this dentist office is. The dentist and all the staff are just amazing and friendly. I've been to so many dentist in two different states including here and have struggled finding a good dentist for my kids for years. My son has had yellow teeth for years and no dentist could get them clean on top of other bad issues I have experienced with other dentist. This dentistry not only got his teeth so clean but they took their time and made the environment so friendly and fun. I can't thank them enough for everything and my son is already saying "when can I go back to that fun dentist." Thank you!

My daughter got through X-rays, a cleaning and met with the dentist today without issue. They are very kid friendly with stuffed animals, blankets, and smart tvs in the rooms. They have iPad games in the lobby with a kid room. They have tokens after cleanings to get prizes at checkout. Kid approved set up.

Staff, dental assistants and dentists are so compassionate and take the time to explain what is happening to my daughter who is on the spectrum and taking the time to make sure she is responding and comfortable before proceeding with the exam and cleaning. Always smiling and just such a relaxing atmosphere for the kids comfortability! I have already recommended them to other families I work with and will continue to recommend moving forward! 10/10

Fantastic experience: The dental hygienist was absolutely amazing and patient with my 4 yo who was a little apprehensive about the cleaning. She took the time to explain what each and every tool did and never rushed through the process. Dr. Kailes was extremely vigilant and picked up on an old tooth injury that my son’s previous dentist did not notice. Overall, 10/10 recommend this practice!

Fantastic experience: It was our first time there and they were wonderful! It’s so kids friendly. The ladies were so kind and gentle with my kids and very patient with them. They listened to any concerns we had and was able to answer any questions we had also. Everyone there was amazing!

My son did better than I expected but it also helped that the assistant and doctor were so nice and caring. I was recommended to this office by a personal friend and I am excited to continue taking my son here. Dr. Staman and Raelyn up to the check in and check out ladies were amazing !!
