Fantastic experience: Just moved to Kansas and had an issue with one of my teeth. I bite down on something and heard a crack! Went to Bluestem Dental, on a friends suggestion. I was pleasantly surprise. First time to walk in. They were able to see me immediately. One of my teeth had cracked right down the middle. We discussed several options, they were not pushy. They gave me info on each one and a price. I made decision and no pressure. Love it!

Positive experience: I found this place in my new insurance plan. Out of all the other dental clinics, this was the one that was available the soonest. As a new patient, I was answered promptly and patiently, which I really appreciated. The doctor and assistant were also attentive. I got a cleaning and exam. At the checkout, I had to pay more than $40, which was not warned in advance, neither by phone/email or at the front desk. And as I thought, it would be covered by insurance. It was of course unexpected, since I agreed to a prescription toothpaste from the assistant for about $20. And I still continue to pay for insurance.

Positive experience: The paperwork took too much time. I don't understand why a dentist needs my full medical history. I'm 78; I can't remember most of the information they asked for. I'm compulsive about telling the truth, but I couldn't comply accurately about illnesses and medical treatments I had long ago.

Fantastic experience: BlueStem Dental is different than every other dentist office that I've ever been to before as not only do I see the same dentist every time (very normal), I also see the same dental hygenist! This is very unique and I love having the opportunity to build a relationship with the person who spends the most time with my teeth in the first place! My hygenist Jenna does an absolutely awesome job cleaning my teeth every time and picks up conversation where we left off during my last cleaning 6 months previously as if I had just seen her a few days ago. If this is your jam, I cannot recommend going to BlueStem enough!

Positive experience: Office is clean and updated with all the new technology. Hygienists are great. Had a procedure done recently, couldn’t get totally numb and i think that may have irritated my dentist. I couldn’t help that.

Negative experience: I'm generally provided with great service, but at this time I'm being constantly hounded for an additional $500 because the accounting department failed to review my dental history prior to providing me with a quote for a crown. I was quoted $500 and told by several people in the office that they saw no way why it should cost me over $500 (including the dentist himself), then, several weeks later I was hit with an additional nearly $500 bill. Now, when I go in, the accounting/billing personnel has dig their heels in and refuses to budge. Despite the fact that I was told by several members of their staff that $500 was all I would pay and when I asked them directly if they checked my dental history prior to doing the work the answer was "well, we don't always do that", they are still insisting on payment. So, in summary, I was told I would have to pay a specific amount, the billing department failed to do their due diligence by verifying my dental history which resulted in an insurance denial, so they are passing the buck onto me rather than accepting responsibility for their multiple failures. I really like this dentist...but I can find another one if they don't fix this.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Maluf is always warm, welcoming and efficient. I'm getting great dental care and personal care.

Fantastic experience: This is a superb dental practice, friendly, clean and efficient. I thought I had delaminated my teeth with an online dental scaler. Jeff salvaged my misadventure and restored my pearly whites. He and Dr. Haake checked under the hood and gave me six months to test my new toothbrush. My most recent exam reaffirmed the system wide quality of this practce. Kudos to Louis, and Dr. Howe. Both went above and beyond. Both have great clinical and interpersonal skills.

Fantastic experience: Blue Stem Dental is outstanding. I never have to wait for my appointment to start and the whole vibe is positive from start to finish. My hygienist, Jeff is friendly, professional, has great taste in music and makes the entire experience as fun as going to the dentist can be! Dr. Maluf is also fantastic. She has a great beside manner and blends knowledge and expertise with a great sense of humor and personality that make me feel seen and heard as a patient, every time. My old dentist wore two left shoes and put the A in awkward and the P in painful. They made watching paint dry sound exhilarating. I'm leaving this review after going to Blue Stem for over two years and I have nothing but consistently good things to say about these guys. If you live in Johnson County or nearby you won't find a better general dentistry office in town!

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient there for a few years now. To be honest I wasn't particularly sold on being a patient but know my family and I need to be seen every 6 months so remained there. But the other day was the first time I ever wanted to post a review. Hygienist Paula was absolutely the BEST. She was so gentle, sweet, and friendly. She took her time and explained everything she was doing before she did it. My best experience yet with my 6 month cleaning. I will always request my appointments to be with her!!! (Dr. High (I think that's his name) should take some notes). Fast forward to my visit today July 2025. Hygienist Paula was amazing....AGAIN. She took x-rays and did my cleaning in under an hour. She talked me through every step as if this was my first time. She was so gentle and thorough...AGAIN! I met Dr. Maluf today and she was so nice and easy to talk to. Her presence was refreshing. I was so glad my visit with the dentist today was pleasant and the total opposite of my last visit/review.

Fantastic experience: They are so nice, and very organized. Always a great experience. Wish all businesses were run this well. 7/18/19 Update - still amazing service. The office is run with such efficiency and organization. No wasted time. I walked in at 2:45 for a 3 PM apt. They took me as soon as I walked in, I was in the chair getting x-rays a minute later, they diagnosed the issue, and corrected it, and i was in the car on the way back to work by 3:15. 2/2/23. Still awesome

Fantastic experience: I felt that I received excellent dental care today at my sixth month checkup. From the x-rays, the cleaning and the Doctor’s check up was top notch. I had a tooth that got extracted while eating something chewy awhile back that was causing me issues. It repaired in an expedient and professional manner. All the people that worked on me at Blue and Blue dental were extremely excellent in the work they did on me.

Fantastic experience: I had the best experience after not going to the Dentist for maybe 7 years. I DO NOT like going to the dentist. I'm not a huge fan of the scraping and hands and knuckles in my mouth, I'd rather have the flu! However, today was totally different. Paula was my hygienist, and I plan to keep her forever!! She is amazing! Makes sure you are comfortable and understand and explain everything before proceeding. She was gentle and checked in on me often. Dr. Howe was very kind and enlightening! He made me at ease and didn't rush our appointment. I know people would reschedule because their Doctor wasn't available, I would reschedule for my hygienist! Thank you, Paula, for everything you did. You really made me at ease during the entire process!

Fantastic experience: Dr Maluf recently became my primary DDS when my DDS left the practice First time seen …recently, i had a dental emergency and she was WONDERFUL in helping me work through the crisis. (If you knew my dental history you’d agree it was crisis). All the staff is wonderful. I have been going to BSD for approx 10 years after my DDS retired to work at BSD before he officially left. (Site won’t let me post 5 stars)

Fantastic experience: I went in for an emergency tooth extraction today and everyone was so kind and helpful, very professional. I have a huge fear of dentists due to awful experiences and feeling ashamed of my teeth, but not anymore. Felt nothing during the extraction, and now I feel so much better! Just sore. I don’t have insurance due to being new in the state yet they worked with me no issue. I had been in pain crying all night and got the tooth taken care of within maybe an hour of being here. So thankful for them! I’d definitely recommend this place for anyone needing dental work. I’ll continue to come in for the rest of the work I’ll need down the line.

Fantastic experience: Soooo I’ve have dental anxiety all my life. I was always strapped down as a kid screaming during my appointments so naturally as an adult I have a fear of going to the dentist. But I have to shoutout Dr. Heye and his team because this was the BEST dental experience I’ve ever had in all my 30 plus years. Dr. Heye took great care of me- he was quick, knowledgeable and efficient and I felt no pain or discomfort the entire time. 20/10 would recommend!!!!

Fantastic experience: Update 12/2024 BlueStem Dental is still staffed with skilled, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. Everyone from the front desk, to the assistants, to the doctors work their hardest to provide exceptional service and care. I recommend this office to anyone in search of a quality dental care. Update 06/2022 I returned to have a cavity filled. Once again the staff was friendly and the doctor was right on time. I was in and out in no time at all. I highly recommend BlueStem to anyone searching for a dentist in the area. I had my first appointment today. The staff was friendly, on time, and the office was nice and clean. I’m really glad to be a patient here.

Fantastic experience: Seriously, what a great bunch of people. Any nervousness I might have had went out the window after the first 5 minutes. I had a tooth extraction, which I wasn't looking forward to doing while being awake. But they were very gentle, and it was virtually painless. The facility is clean, warm, and welcoming. I really liked how I had a nice view outside to focus on instead of thinking about why I was there. One last nice touch is they give the patients sunglasses to wear while in the chair so the bright lights don't bother them. Very thoughtful and caring office.

Fantastic experience: 1st time, what a wonderful experience. Paige my dental hygienist was great! Everyone was very nice and happy. Nice office and timely. Dr. Dalquist was very personable. My only thing that was unpleasant was all the paperwork. I had spent 25 min at home before my appointment completing and sending back to the office via patient portal. They said they didn't receive all of it. So I spent another 15 min in the office filling out paperwork. I know insurance companies need a lot of information but I bet I wrote my address 10 times. Should be a way to consolidate paperwork. That being said I will be returning their office. I have had Emily on a regular basis since my last post and she is AWESOME also! Thank you Blue Stem!

Fantastic experience: To be honest until Blue Stem I’d never cared enough about who my dentist was to be loyal to a certain practice. Always just neutral. But the Blue Stem staff’s level of patient care and interaction is so fantastic I had to leave a review. Specifically Paula, who is the best dental hygienist I’ve ever had. She’s gentle and just so kind and somehow makes going to a dentist appointment enjoyable you rock Paula!!

Dr. Haake has always been a welcoming individual and even though I only see him a couple times a year, he remembers me and my family. Fantastic experience: Love my Dental team. Every time I leave feeling confident my teeth are in great shape and they did not attempt to complete procedures unless needed. Complete opposite of my prior dentist. Also appreciate the great conversation with Hygienist. Not sure if it is training or instinct, but they always make it feel like a great conversation interrupted by occasional sharp objects placed in my mouth.
