Fantastic experience: I love how honest the Dr is. We have been to a pediatric dentist in St. Charles a few years ago who wanted to give my 4 year old a root canal on a cavity he had on a baby tooth with no pain. After working in a dental office myself, I knew this was unnecessary and a money grab. It's very refreshing to find a dentist who isn't money hungry and will give you an honest opinion especially with children and baby teeth. Definitely recommend and will be coming here for a long time due to his honesty. And the staff is extremely kind which makes it even more enjoyable for nervous little kids.

One of my family members went there also to get a cleaning and the Dentist who did his checkup was amazing too.

Fantastic experience: I have had nothing but awful experiences with dentists. However, since I switch to Sommers family dental they have change the way I look at the dentist. I just had a wisdom tooth removed and it was hands to the best experience I have had at the dentist. They use 2 different forms of numbing and I felt absolutely nothing during the procedure. The procedure was amazing quick. I blocked out my day because I was unsure what the procedure entailed, it took longer for the numbing agents to work then it did for the team to remove the tooth. Dr. Malecki and his team are experienced and highly knowledgeable. What impressed me the most was their hospitality. I currently live in Chicago, and commuting over two hours is absolutely worth it.

Negative experience: This review has been a long time coming. I have given many chances as I have been going to this practice for nearly 30 years, but the last few years have been very different than when I first started going. We have had many of our appointments cancelled at the last minute which if I was able to put into place their same cancelation policy, I would have money in my pocket. If I was to not give 48 hours notice, I would be charged a $75 fee. One appointment was cancelled as my daughter was pulling out of the driveway to get to her appointment. She had flown in from school so rescheduling was going to be a problem. They did not even offer to get her in later that day until I called and they somehow found her an appointment. My son had 2 appointments cancelled last minute as well and then last weekend my daughter was in again and had an appointment, but they called to cancel because the dentist was going to be out of town. Then to top things off, I was to have an appointment today and they called 6 hours prior saying he was leaving early because of the snowstorm. There was not much snow at that time of the call. I am not heartless and want everyone to be safe, but that took the cake when they couldn't get me for a month and a half. I am just very disappointed, but there are many dentists out there.

Negative experience: I have been going to Sommers Family Dental for over 30 years, and for the most part I have felt like family, even with all the change of staff and administrative procedures. 3 years ago I gave a 5 star review, upon the encouragement of Dr. Malecki. Today I deleted that review to write this one. Buckle up, it's a rather long narrative. I had to get upper dentures this year and I finally got the permanent ones, 3 days ago, after 6 months of tweeking the immediates. I went in today to have the upper filed down as they were digging into the roof of my mouth when eating. I did not want to have sores and wanted to be able to eat Christmas dinner. I was told to call if I need adjustments, and they would fit me in, which I did, and they did. Jen wanted Dr. Malecki to file them down for a better fit, so I waited patiently. When Dr. Malecki came in, he said what Jen had informed him, and I reiterated I did not want sores in my mouth from eating. The first words from him were that he would wait until after Christmas. I responded with NO, I want to be able to eat Christmas without getting sores. He responded telling me I was being disrespectful. Wow! Rather than acknowledge my concern about getting mouth sores, or that I was advocating more myself, I was talked to like a child. Disrespect #1 was not acknowledging my concern, disrespect #2 was talking to a patient like that. Disrspect #3 was telling me I was raising my voice. What did he think he was doing with his tone of voice?! I have been in many customer service occupations in the last 50 years +, as well as working in a professional arena in meetings with parents and other professionals. It is the job of the professional to turn the verbal interaction into a positive, not the other way around. Anyway, I voiced how I felt he was being disrespectful to me as to how he began the conversation. He did not approach the problem by saying, let's explore the options. He started it with "I" would not..... When I pointed this out to him, he continued with his barrating, as if it was my fault. when in fact, he never broached any options from the get go. Just what he wanted, or would prefer to do. He also stated at least twice, that he would be happy to keep the teeth and write me a check and I could go elsewhere. Really? The insurance company paid for half of the teeth, so how you going to figure that out. LOL. After maybe a minute or two of vesrbal discourse, I just wanted to get out of there and let him finish talking, while I just sat there and slightly smiled ( as I have dealt with ex-husbands, parents and such like this) and knew the arrogance was boiling over, bedside manner was tossed aside, and it was pointless to verbally exchange with him as he was going to be right and was adamant that I was in the wrong. I then got asked why I was laughing. Seriously?! There is a difference between a laugh and a smile. I told him to just go file them down. I have a theory as to why all of this played out, but will not elaborate as it is just a theory and is not relevant and does changge the situation, again, it is the professionals job to turn it around so the patient/customer walks away feeling positive. But the fact that he said, at least twice, that I could look elsewhere for service, to me, means he was making a choice. The entire process of getting these dentures has been tedious; had to follow-up with insurance along the way myself as administration had some hiccups and the proper phone calls/paperwork were not done in a timely manner. Also had an appointment one time for adjustments, fitting ( I don't remember which), but I took and hour out of my day, only for Dr. Malecki say he wasn't going to do anything that day. What a waste of time for everyone! At the end of the day, I do have dentures that fit much better than before and it does not hurt to eat. I also cancelled my 6-month check up. I gave 2 stars due to the fact that the adjustment was made and the rest of staff were pleasant. Clearly standing your ground is not tolerated or accepted.

Negative experience: To start off, the front desk was nice we got greeted by a nice young lady. Soon after we got with the dental doctor and I’ve never met anyone as careless as he was with my mom and my dad. Both my mom and my dad came because it had been a while for them to have gotten a check up on their teeth due to insurance reasons. We couldn’t pay out of pocket so we had that delayed. Once we finally got dental insurance both my parents came here. Right off the bat the doctor was just so rushed? Would be inpatient with my mom instantly get upset? Like sir calm down if you see your patient nervous already why trigger it even more? Instead of acting like a doctor it’s like we’re asking you to forcefully do your job? What time of care is that? I had to step out the room a couple of times bc of x rays that they were doing to my parents. I would notice him in another room with other patients treating them very kindly and thoughtful. Not to mention they were white and my parents are both Mexican. It gave us a whole lotta reasons that this was him being very much discriminating towards my parents. On the last appointment I went to he was very rude to my mom and I instantly said relax because he was doing a full clean up on my mom but my mom was very nervous and quite frankly it would hurt her when they told her it wouldn’t hurt at all. The reassurance wasn’t their and the ability to taking care of a patient wasn’t their either. If you just wanna get treated like not a human just don’t come here. Making us pay more every time when insurance told us that they shouldn’t be making us pay anything. So we ended up leaving. I don’t recommend this doctor if you’re Hispanic/latino. You’re just gonna get looked up and down have some respect.

Fantastic experience: I came here initially in extreme pain for my wisdom teeth. Everything went very great and I thankfully did not feel a thing. I had to come back for a root canal on a big tooth in the back. I was scared and wanted to save the tooth. It went great and didn't feel a thing again. They set up a payment plan for me and were extremely flexible in helping me because I want all my teeth and explained everything up front. I would recommend this place to family and friends. They do really care and helped me. Thank you

Negative experience: Peace. Imagine being told your bill of $331.70 is paid in full. Sommers Dental told me they accept my dental insurance BCBSIL, and $331.70 is what I owe them after insurance paid their share, so I immediately paid them, this was back in May. However this morning I got an email stating I have an outstanding balance of $285.90. Come to find out, Sommers exercised balance billing, which allowed them to charge me more, bringing my total balance owed to them: $617.60. Moral of this review, if you have dental insurance, make sure to verify with them that the specific “dentist” rendering the service is in your “network”, don’t solely take the word of the dentist office, double check this with your dental insurance co, to avoid the dentist using balance billing to get more money out of you. #hardknocks

Fantastic experience: First time at Sommers dental was great. I had a chipped tooth and they were able to get me in two days later. It took 30 minutes to get seen but the staff was very pleasant and one I saw the dentist; the work was done quickly.

Fantastic experience: I was in search of a new dentist and I went by what was close to me and by the reviews and I chose this one & I went today and got my cleaning and exams and they were extremely thorough with everything! My teeth feel incredibly clean and thoroughly examined! Exactly what I was looking for! Also the staff here were super sweet and nice and made me feel very welcome! I also love how they decorated for Halloween lol I’d definitely recommend this practice!

Fantastic experience: I want to thank you for the excellent service you provided to my mom. We were looking for a place to have her root canal done and none of the places we called wanted to accept us because she has Medicaid and no private insurance. Although they don't accept Medicaid here, they did give my mom a discount because she was older and didn't have private insurance. The doctor is amazing and very professional as well as the assistants and all the people that work there. I especially want to thank Maura for her excellent service, professionalism and help. Also, it is a plus that they speak Spanish.

Positive experience: During my appointment they were very friendly and professional. I loved the power washing tool that really gives the teeth and gums a deep clean. My husband made a 3:30 pm appointment and arranged to take off work to get there. They called him at 1:40 pm the day of the appointment to cancel it, yet they charge patients $75 for canceling with less than 48 hours notice. They gave him less than 2 hours notice.

Fantastic experience: Chipped a molar, needed extraction, plus wisdom extraction. Everyone was nice and professional, cost was reasonable. However I was told ibuprofen would be enough for the pain (maybe if I took 3-4 times the recommended dosage)(and killed my liver). My advice, insist on a prescription for a few days of pain relief!

Fantastic experience: My other dentist recently retired and I was recommended to Sommers Family Dental by a friend. The experience was awesome, the staff and Dr. Malecki were super knowledgable and accommodating. For someone who hates going to the dentist Sommers Family Dental made the experience easy and relaxing.

Negative experience: I am very disappointed with Sommers Dental. I not only got rescheduled once or twice but THREE times. Their policy is “if you do not cancel your appointment 48 hours before there is a $75 charge.” Yet they call the day before to reschedule my appointments. Dr. Malecki If you do not want me as a client just tell me that so I can find a different dentist instead of me wasting my time “rescheduling” with you.

Negative experience: I wouldn’t take a dead dog here if I could. Backstory: My boyfriend does not take pain medication for personal reasons until he’s in extreme pain. On Monday January 29th, my boyfriend came to Sommers for X-rays of a wisdom tooth that’s been hurting him for days. His appointment was for 8:30am and he wasn’t seen till 10:00am because according the the assistant "Mr Malecki is coming from Chicago and got stuck in traffic." He was in so much pain he could hardly sleep. On Tuesday his right cheek started to swell, and it was very noticeable. Upon him leaving the receptionist told him, he would have to take antibiotics before they could remove the tooth. From the 29th to the 3rd, we checked to see if the prescription was ready. Turns out she never sent the prescription. That’s when we called and she claimed she forgot and sent it. That Saturday is when he started taking the "antibiotics". (They weren’t antibiotics they were a low dose pain reliever)The following Monday (the 5th) we came in for his 8:30am appointment. We waited for and hour because Dr. Malecki was not there. ( met him as we were walking out of the building he reiterated that my boyfriend take the medicine and come back next week) His assistant whose name I do not recall, kept exclaiming that he’s coming from Chicago and got stuck in traffic. Around 9:00 she called us to the back to begin preparing my boyfriend for the extraction. When she asked him to open his mouth so she could apply the numbing cream he couldn’t. Because he was in pain. She then asked him if he took the antibiotics. That’s when he told her he received the Saturday. After stating that she stated because he was not taking the antibiotics for at least a week they could not do the extraction, Until the 15th. She then told us she’d get him any pain reliever he wants… We did end up going to a much more professional establishment. That was mindful of his pain, and gave him a smooth and easy recovery. If I could rate this experience out of 10 it’d be a 0. Dr. Malecki was unprofessional by how late he was. The receptionist was unprofessional, and the assistant was extremely unprofessional offering him medication as if he wants to get a fix.

Fantastic experience: Went to Joe to get my wisdom teeth pulled and had a great experience. I was nervous getting 3 pulled but him and his staff did a great job at masking me feel at ease making sure I was comfortable throughout. Definitely recommend for anyone that needs the same procedure done.

Not only did they expertly assess the root canal from performed from different practice, but they also provided a cap seamlessly, ensuring a pain-free and comfortable experience. What stood out was their understanding and patience with my dental anxiety, making me feel at ease throughout the procedure. I did not go back to my previous provided because they were not as kind. This dentist's exceptional skills combined with their empathetic approach truly sets them apart. Negative experience: Nice staff. They had to re-do a filling they did because they left my tooth sensitive for weeks. It was awful and painful. After two years won’t be returning. They are out of network for BCBS and ended up paying $400 for a yearly cleaning for my husband and I.

Fantastic experience: They were absolutely fantastic! I had major pain and they were so kind and empathetic and were able to get me in right away. Other Dentists have taken forever to numb my mouth and even then I still felt pain. They did a great job totally numbing my mouth and pulled out my bad tooth quickly and efficiently. Fantastic experience: I had really bad root canal pain over the whole weekend, sommers was the only local dentist that could take me in ASAP. I got there at 8 AM and had a bit of a wait time but I was okay with it, just grateful they were going to be able to help me. They relieved my pain and gave me some antibiotics and a follow up treatment plan. I was injected with anesthesia and felt no pain whatsoever, the procedure itself took about 10 mins! Fantastic experience: Dr. Malecki and staff were fabulous. Dr. took out 4 wisdom teeth and it was so pain free for me! Jen was his assistant and was very knowledgeable with each step. I was very impressed with entire friendly staff. highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I haven’t been in to the dentist in awhile, so when I came in for a cleaning, I was prepared for the worst. The dental hygienist Sandra and Doctor M. made me feel very comfortable and talked me through the process. I am leaving very happy and with a fresh clean mouth. The staff was so welcoming, I will definitely be back.

Dr Malecki has been very good at assessing my complicated needs and carrying out a successful care plan. I have no need or interest in going anywhere else.
