Fantastic experience: My two year old had his first dentist appointment here this morning and this place is truly amazing. He felt comfortable and relaxed the entire time and the staff went above and beyond to make it a great experience.

Fantastic experience: I've been going here for close to 7 years. Whether you're an adult without kids or have young children you will love this office. In fact you will wish every single doctors office you went to was like this practice. All the employees consistently have great attitudes. The office is clean and welcoming. Everyone is very knowledgeable and helpful. They go out of their way to be kind and welcoming to children. It's really special. They have a small nook for the kids to watch TV while waiting, plus they offer helium balloons and free toys when the kids are done. Plus their kindness to the children socially is unmatched. I don't know how they do it but all the employees are always so kind and friendly. It makes a long wait or just being at the dentist in general much more bareable. They are like the "Chik Fil A" or "Publix" of dentists if you know what I mean.

Fantastic experience: My family and I absolutely LOVE McIlwain Family Dentistry and have been coming here for over 20 years! Professional, timely, courteous and always friendly! Great with kids too. Gentle and always explain everything. Love everyone here and wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: Always a positive visit here. My whole fam comes here now and collectively its been the best move we've made. Always bright, welcoming, close to time as I would expect you can be, the kids section is so fun for them I had to tell my own child she couldnt come to my appt bc "it wasnt on the fun side of the building". The adult side is met with hygienists who take their time and do a great job.

Fantastic experience: This is the office to use for sedation dentistry. They have taken extraordinary care of my 36 yr old daughter a few times. The entire office is kind and efficient. I will continue to spread the word about the care and understanding while working on the special needs population. Wonderful job Dr Ford and staff!

Negative experience: Absolutely pissed with this office. My daughter had a scheduled appointment for 11:15am. Then I get a call/text that it gets bumped back to 12:30pm. Which I get stuff happens. But as we arrive at the 12pm to check her in & it's now 15 mins past her appointment time I ask someone for an update & get told there's another hour+ wait. Mind you no one told me that as I checked her in. So now we're almost 2.5 hours past my child's appointment & she hasn't eaten since 8pm yesterday. All it takes is communication and some respect for the fact we have an hr & half drive. Anyway I canceled her appt & will not be taking her back. Because that's ridiculous. Then to add the cherry to the cake they write me a check for a refund from the office. Well we were already on the way home when I noticed it was in the wrong name. I'm sorry but seriously? My name is on all her paperwork! So when I call I then get told that the office is on lunch Well must be nice as all the kids you pushed back almost 3 hrs are starving. And that they do not have a checkbook in office. Well funny because the check is from your office. This while experience has been absolutely obsurd. And I better get my refund from both places!

Fantastic experience: We miss Dr. Mike so much, but everyone at this office is so kind and wonderful. My kids have never enjoyed the dentist- neither have I- but we left today’s appointment and not one tear was shed! This is a huge win for us and we are so thankful for all the incredible people at this office for making this happen!

Fantastic experience: My visit today went very well including the fact that the doctor had a few emergency procedures earlier in the day and she was trying to catch up. I had to wait longer than usual but everyone was attentive and when the doctor got to me the procedure went very well. I feel like if I were one of those emergencies I wouldn’t want the doctor to put me off and make me be the one to wait. An emergency is just that, something that needs immediate attention. I was comfortable where I was, someone checked on me every so often and thanked me for my patience. They couldn’t have done more to make my wait easier. It tells me that they take their responsibility for their patients very seriously and that’s what I want in any medical office. So thanks to the team at McIlwain Dental Specialists!

Fantastic experience: I love MCilwain Family Dentistry. Everyone one from the front office to the doctors, to the dental assistants. You feel like you are in safe hands and that you are not being overcharged. Will forever miss Dr. Mike, but Dr. Ford is amazing too.

Fantastic experience: Went here today for an orthodontic consult. They are amazing. My daughter lost her book fair money while we were there, and one of their amazing doctors came out with money in Different denomination out of her own pocket to give her for the book fair because she didn’t want her to miss out. You just don’t find this kind of caring and thoughtfulness anymore. So appreciated and will recommend them 10 times over. Their orthodontic second opinion was also spot on, and we will be moving forward with care with this office.

Fantastic experience: The Dentist and the assistant were both very good with their work. The process just took too long. Maybe they are trying to see too many patients at one time?? I’m 86 years old, disabled and with a lot of health problems. That’s just too long for me in the chair!

Fantastic experience: Had a great dental cleaning! The staff was friendly, the process was smooth, and my teeth feel super clean. The hygienist was gentle yet thorough, explaining each step and making sure I was comfortable throughout.

We had to go elsewhere for a year because of insurance changing and I am SO grateful to be back in the hands of people who truly care about the person and are not just looking to make money.

Fantastic experience: My daughter needed to be seen same day for dental emergency after falling at school on her front teeth. Was able to get in same day no problem. They did X-rays and gave us options. We chose to let teeth naturally fall out as big girl teeth coming soon and both baby teeth wiggling. Both of my kids had birthdays this week and they gave them all kinds of little prizes. Really appreciated it all! My kids had a great experience and at 4/6 years that’s really awesome as I don’t want them to be fearful of going to the dentist. My kids are always happy to go here.

Fantastic experience: We had a dental emergency. My husband is handicapped. They made accommodations with dignity and respect treating him promptly and in a caring way, giving answers and providing assistance with other much needed services. Surely this will be our dental practice from now on.

Negative experience: I asked if they took my insurance and was told yes, but no one explained they were actually out of network. I’m new to dental insurance and didn’t know the difference, and now I’m stuck with a $1,000 bill for what should have been free cleanings for my kids. As a parent currently unemployed and struggling financially, this has put me in a really difficult position. Other than that, the doctors and hygienists are great people and my kids had a wonderful experience, but the lack of transparency with insurance was very disappointing.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kara Ford is amazing with kids! She has such a gentle and patient approach that immediately puts children at ease. My little one definitely gave Dr. Kara Ford a run for her money, but she knew exactly how to handle the situation with patience, kindness, and a smile. She has such a special way of connecting with kids and making them feel comfortable, even when they’re nervous or fussy. I’m so impressed with her professionalism and gentle approach — she truly makes going to the dentist a positive experience. Highly recommend her to any parent looking for an amazing pediatric dentist!

We were greeted kindly by everyone there and we felt very welcome and cared for as we sat in the chair. Dr. McIlwain is very knowledgeable and he has the patient's best interest in mind. We were 100% satisfied with the service and even though my insurance is out of network for this office, I still consider choosing them for my daughter's braces because they gave us the best experience and we felt it's the right place for us!

Fantastic experience: Top notch care! Today was my 2.5 year old daughter’s first ever dental appointment and it was an amazing experience. The dental office is clean, organized, and even has water, tea, and coffee in the waiting area. Front desk was very warm. The dental hygienist was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. She offered great advice and was great with my daughter. My daughter was fortunately very well behaved and excited for her appointment, but the way the hygienist helped her feel comfortable with process was great. She allowed my daughter to touch certain devices so she’d feel comfortable. The dentist was kind and also made my daughter feel very comfortable. My daughter received a full cleaning, flossing, and I think varnish. After the visit she was given a balloon and some goodies (toys, toothbrush, toothpaste). 1000000000/10 recommend!

Fantastic experience: I was truly blessed to be able to come in today for my daughter’s toothache. It was an emergency and from the phone call I knew that they were concerned about my child and did their very best to get her seen as soon as possible. I got a same day visit (thankfully). Either way, if I didn’t get the phone call for an early appointment, I was going to be seen within the next 24 hours. I am truly grateful for the staff. Dr Ford is amazing. Going to the dentist is not scary anymore for my children. They even treat siblings with prizes even if they aren’t the patient that day. The staff is kind and welcoming. I truly love this place. I drive 30 minutes out of my way to come here and it’s worth it for the quality of care the children receive.

Fantastic experience: I must say I've never liked going to the dentist. However after I retired and made Mcllwain Dental my primary dental office, I have no regrets. I love all the staff there, starting with the great women at the reception desk to all the Dental assistants(Especially leah). They are all about the patient and the patients concerns and well being. The Dentist (Dr. Becky) there surpass every Dentist I've ever dealt with. Dr. Becky is the best. Just like the assistant's they're all about the patients and ensuring whatever procedure you're getting done is pain free and swift. The work is exceptional, and the best thing is, they treat you as if your part of the great family there at Mcllwain Dental. If you're looking for a good place to get Dental work done, this is it. Trust me you won't regret it.

Fantastic experience: This is the best pediatric dental clinic. Do not hesitate, they will take great care of your kids. I didnt want to use sedation for my girls for their dental procedures and they were understanding and provided alternatives. Dr Mike was the best pediatric dentist! We loved him so much and are so sad he passed away. He was very nice to my girls and took great care of them. We will continue to use Dr Ford because she’s great too!

Fantastic experience: Yesterday we learned of Dr Mike’s passing and my whole family is so sad to lose such an amazing Dr. Today when I had to bring my son in to have a baby tooth pulled the office staff as always was amazing. Somehow even during such a hard and sad time they are keeping it together and still delivering the most amazing dental service. We always made the drive from Lakeland for Dr Mike because my whole family loved him so much and now we will do it for Dr Ford who worked under Dr Mike for I think she said 6 years. She was so amazing to my son and pulled his tooth with no pain. My kids love going to the dentist bc of this office staff and I am so grateful. They are exceptional!

Fantastic experience: They have wonderful "bedside manner" in that they are all friendly and treat you like family. My 15 year old has had multiple dental issues so has extreme anxiety over procedures like dental fillings. She needed 3 fillings this week and they were wonderful! She had the laughing gas which calmed her nerves and didn't stress out over the numbing shots at all. Handled it like a champ which was a first! Thankful for their attention to detail and caring energy.

Negative experience: After receiving a phone call from Dr. Becky (9/23/2024), I’m going to go into detail regarding what happened in 2021. Dr. Becky is trying to act as though she did not know about my husband’s passing. He passed away in 2021 and I personally called her to let her know of my husband’s passing and because I thought she would care. She never offered her condolences, making the conversation extremely uncomfortable, so much so I changed the subject. A few months later in 2022, I received a phone call from the front desk clerk asking on behalf of Dr. Becky if I could come in earlier or change the date for an upcoming appointment. I then proceeded to tell her about how disappointed I was with Dr. Becky and Mcllwain Dental Specialists as a whole. Mcllwain acts as though they are a family business with great morals, but that’s not true. They couldn’t care less about their patients. I even sent a message via their contact us letting them know how disgusted I was in how they just ignored me. So, it’s a lie if they say they didn’t know. My family were patients of Dr. Becky for many years. We followed her from Bradenton, FL to Apollo Beach, FL and then to McIIwain Dentistry in Wesley Chapel, FL. Receiving a phone call 3 years too late from Dr. Becky was truly disgusting and extremely upsetting. She didn’t question why my family stopped being her patients over two years ago because she did not care. The only reason for her recent call was because I posted my review. What started all of this was the phone call from Scott an employee of Mcllwain stating I am owed money back. This “family rain business” is now withholding money I overpaid for more than 2 years. This is just an FYI. Others might have a more positive experience but mine was awful. I want nothing to do with this place. I added the screenshot of my call to Dr. Becky 9 days after my husband passed. This was to show what a liar and how little she cares about anyone other than herself.

Negative experience: I called about needing a single tooth xray for an infected tooth. They wanted $140 and couldn’t get me in for 2 weeks! $140 for one tooth!!!!!!! I fell out of my chair. And 2 weeks with an infection!!! Sorry I don’t care how nice you are- that’s insane. You need some flexibility in your schedule for urgent matters. Called an emergency dentist who got me in the following day and for 1/3 of the price!!!

Fantastic experience: McIlwain has been amazing for my son. He is still going through some crazy orthodontic issues and the hygienists, receptionists and Drs. have been great through all of it. When a tooth we have been waiting to appear for over a year, finally appeared, everyone cheered with him.

I had a terrible experience at another dentist and she helped sort out the whole situation very quickly, for a much lower cost, and with a very friendly and comforting demeanor. Fantastic experience: I have a long complicated history of dental care and have always struggled to find a dentist who was thorough and also compassionate. When I first went to Mcllwain I knew I had found this place. My children go there, my husband goes there, and now they have helped my elderly father with a lengthy denture journey; all with the same care and compassion they showed me when I first went. If you are someone with dental trauma they will be the ones to help you heal from that and move forward.

Fantastic experience: Nothing but wonderful things to say about this office! My 1 year old son fell and chipped his tooth and breastfeeding was SOOO painful for me. We had to bring him in twice to have it filed down (it was still too sharp after the first visit) and the entire office was so accommodating and supportive. My son screamed his head off (understandably haha) but when the dentist was done, everyone in the room started clapping and cheering for him to help him feel better!! It was so amazing and I felt so supported as an anxious first time mom going through this experience. Thank you to everyone who helped us these past two weeks!

It’s amazing that Dr Mike Mcllwain can do fillings for kids with laser with no gas, no sedation, no things stuck in kids mouth. Fantastic experience: My appointment was scheduled for yesterday but my calendar was on a different time zone and I didn’t realize it even though I received multiple reminders from McIlwain. Fortunately when they called to check on why I was late, they were very kind and though I missed my scheduled time, they were able to fit me in the next day. I was so grateful. Also the dental hygienist, Brittany, did a great job!

Fantastic experience: We had the best experience at my 8 year old son’s first cleaning! From the front desk to the hygienist and Dr. Ford… everyone was super friendly, professional, and welcoming! Look forward to future visits, getting the whole family here!
