I had Michelle this time for my cleaning, and she was very friendly and did not reprimand me for not flossing enough! :) Dr. Lerman has been here a long time and keeps track of my history. I definitely recommend this practice. UPDATE July 2021: This time I had Stephanie. Again, she was friendly and did not reprimand for bad habits. Erika at the front desk handled the transition to new insurance quickly and easily. UPDATE September 2025: Dr. Lerman has since retired, so I had Dr. Gehlbach check things out and Helen for my hygenist. Despite a longer commute due to a job change, I have stuck with this practice due to their friendly environment and good attention to my dental health needs.

Negative experience: I am writing this review on behalf of several patients who have all had extremely negative experiences here. This so-called “dental practice” is nothing more than a quick cash grab operation, designed to extract as much money as possible while providing the absolute bare minimum in care. The staff is shockingly unprofessional — rude at the front desk, dismissive when asked simple questions, and seemingly more interested in pushing unnecessary treatments than addressing actual dental concerns. Appointments constantly run late, and when you finally do get seen, you are rushed through without any real attention or care. The whole place feels chaotic and careless, not at all like a proper medical practice. On top of that, it’s clear their Google reviews are completely fake and bought. If you want to see what real patients think, check their Yelp page — that’s where the honest reviews are, and they paint the true picture: dissatisfied patients, shoddy dental work, and staff that treat you like a nuisance instead of someone trusting them with their health. This practice does not care about its patients — only about their wallets. Please don’t be fooled by the fake five-star ratings. Save yourself the frustration, stress, and wasted money, and look for a real dentist who actually values patient care and professionalism.

Fantastic experience: I have had nothing but EXCELLENT and PROFESSIONAL treatment at Long Wharf Dental since 2019. I have a "complicated" mouth to say the least. But I have always been met with a positive CAN DO attitude that looks to find solutions. The Dentists have been great and very dedicated - I've always been seen ASAP. And Helen Tran has been my hygienist for YEARS now - she is WONDERFUL! A very kind person to speak to, but also very efficient, knowledgable and GENTLE. I highly recommend her specifically if you are new - you will thank me! My whole family goes there. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: Could be the worst medical facility I've ever dealt with. I went in there yesterday with a referral from Yale, and this is a yale dental office, I have a referral from Yale and this woman behind the desk, this rude could be the rudest person I've met in a long time, tells me that they can't see me until 2027. Meanwhile I'm supposed to have surgery in the fall. This lady couldn't get me out of that office fast enough she couldn't care less about what I had to say. Just a complete zero

Negative experience: They canceled my appointment that I took the day off for. The lady was not apologetic, she was rude. It was a huge inconvenience. Respect people's time.

Fantastic experience: Very cordial in both areas. They made sure that you were comfortable for the procedure and asked you to inform them if there was any pain. Walked you to the front desk after the procedure was over and said to give them a call if have any discomfort afterwards.

Dr. Lipton was very knowledgeable and knew what he was talking about. I forget the woman that actually did the deep cleaning name but she was out of this world. She made sure I was comfortable and while doing the work she was constantly checking on me which really made me feel at ease, I’ll continue to have this office do any oral work and cleaning . Fantastic experience: I found this place right next door to my previous job which was convenient and I did not have to leave work to go too far. The whole staff are so awesome, friendly and patient. I live with moderate to high anxiety and especially experience it at the dentist- the staff understands me and my quirks. They always explain what they’re doing when they’re doing it and they make me feel so much better. Even though I no longer work next door I will continue going to this office and I would recommend this place to anyone for sure!

Fantastic experience: Who knew going to the dentist could actually be… pleasant? The team at LWD is so friendly and professional, I almost forget they’re about to poke around in my mouth. The office is spotless (seriously, you could eat off the floor—though I wouldn’t recommend it), and the location is super convenient. Best of all? They send appointment reminders you can confirm or cancel with just a text—no awkward phone calls or small talk required. It’s like they get me. If you’re looking for top-tier dental care without the usual dread, this is the place. Hats off (and mouths open) to the LWD crew!

Fantastic experience: My First time at Longwharf Dental. Everything went smooth and seamless from making the initial appointment all the way to checking out. They were able to accommodate my family of 5 with no problem. This is now our family’s 3rd visit and upon arrival at the front desk, the ladies were very nice and professional. There was absolutely no excessive wait times. My dental hygienist Raven was amazing. She was very patient, knowledgeable and enthusiastic which helped a lot with my anxiety of dental services. My cleaning was pretty much painless compared to my previous experiences. The Dr came in after my cleaning. Checked my teeth a little further, we came up with a plan and I was done. I had past trauma that caused some discoloration but I look forward to this promising oral health journey that will produce a more brighter whiter smile. You will see in the pictures attached. Excuse the shiny lips, as my lip gloss is popping. Lol Overall, I will definitely refer my friends and family to Longwharf Dental. The BEST first impression, and experience I’ve ever had at a dental office.

Fantastic experience: I am totally dedicated to my dental hygienist, Geraldine. She is smart and kind and thorough. My concern about this practice is their ability to keep experienced dentists. The location is wonderful and the facility is beautiful. They need to have dedicated experience dentists. The Hygienists cannot maintain the practice. But I will never leave Geraldine. Since my last visit with Geraldine, I had a problem and was brought in to see the dentist who was absolutely lovely and comprehensive

Fantastic experience: Yes, it was that time for the semi-annual cleaning of the teeth. Well since Andrea retired it was hard for me to choose another hygienist only because I didn't know them and Andrea was the best. Well I met a lovely replacement and her name is Geraldine. She is thorough, attentive, and takes pride in performing her professional duties. Thank you Geraldine you met every expectation. Andrea would be proud and most of all I am very happy that I chose you. Kudos

Positive experience: The visit was great. Geraldine the hygienist is terrific. The only problem is the pre visit form which is requested every visit and is complete repetitive from one visit to the next. Nothing is retained so you start over every time. This is tedious and unnecessary.

Negative experience: Dentist are great as well as technicians but the office and insurance side of it was a mess for me. Miscommunication led to me losing $700 in a flex acct. I was also told my insurance would not cover something it did. When my temporary fell off overnight they were nice enough to offer to fix but when I voiced my concerns over the issues I had with the front I was told they would no longer accept me as a patient after 4 years and thousands of dollars. I was utterly disappointed and dumbfounded as I was never rude even after being hung up on on a previous conversation with the office manager.

Fantastic experience: I go back and forth with this practice. Right now, they appear to be on an upswing- but I miss seeing some of the people who were there for so many years and have recently vanished. That said, this most recent visit the dentist was very fast & put up with me listening in on a committee call while he did the work. Very grateful for his patience & speedy work.

Fantastic experience: Visit was a new patient visit, X-rays were taken and explained, concerns were heard and a plan was made to help get my dental hygiene back on track. Went in today for the first half of my deep cleaning and I left with visibly brighter teeth and after the numbing wore off, I had ZERO pain. Can’t wait to go back for the other half.

He really cared about his patients. After you had work done by him, he would personally call you that night to see how you were feeling! I am staying with the practice because of my hygentist Geraldine. She also cares about her patients and is very knowledgeable. I haven’t seen the other dentist as of yet. I give this practice five stars!

She's incredibly knowledgeable and showed great empathy for me. She comforted me when I was being injected with novacaine. It was very moving when she held my hand and spoke gently to me. During my visit Dr. John Gehlbach who recently joined the practice he advised that something be done to prevent further damage and I consented. Let me tell you, I received an outstanding care. Dr. Gehlbach was courteous , professional, kind, gentle and patient with me as I asked a few questions. He allowed me to choose the treatment protocol that I am comfortable with. As he worked to repair my tooth he was very attentive to my comfort level as he was precise with the procedure. I am very pleased to share my experience regarding the excellent care and service I received at Long Wharf Dental in New Haven, CT. This time, I had an issue with the crown on my tooth. I called and even though Dr. Lerhman was fully booked, and in fact, double booked, they found a way to squeeze me in. When I arrived it was not only you that they took excellent care of me, but Dr. Lerhman has this unique way of proactively addressing issues that will potentially become a big problem in the future. By doing this I cut down on cost and potential pain/malady. When I go for my appointment I go with confidence because I feel Dr. Lerhman and his assistant, Katie and my hygienist, Helen listen to me. They are relatable, easy to talk to, compassionate and down-to-earth. I want to also give a big shout out to the front office staff for being so friendly, accommodating and helpful. By far, Dr. Lerhman is the most experienced dentist I know, but he doesn't ever draw attention to himself. He saves the day everyday. Thank for your excellent care!!!!!!!!! I cracked what I thought was one tooth. But it turned to be two teeth on a Friday evening. So, I made an emergency call to Dr. Lerman's office the next day, and Dr. Lerman promptly called me back with 30 minutes. After listening to my sad story, he did everything possible to squeeze me into his already tight schedule. Let me tell you, if you find yourself in a precarious situation such as I was, Dr. Lerman will come through for you. He is considerate, accommodating, professional, and totally full of empathy for his patients. I feel well cared for, and comfortable with his care. I also want to give a big shout out to his amazing staff. They always treat me like "family." Thank God I found out about this practice. They are the best!!!
