Fantastic experience: I have been a patient at Laurelhurst Dentistry since I first moved to Portland in 2006. I will continue to be a patient for as long as I need dental care. The staff is organized and considerate. Dr. Bennett is fabulous and has a thoughtful “chairside” manner. Going to the dentist, in general, is not my favorite way to spend time, but Laurelhurst Dentistry is my favorite dental practice. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Dr.Pham & his team are amazing! I have had dental trauma in the past and Dr.Pham has healed that. He has been my dentist for years now & I literally refer him to all of my friends & family. He is excellent at what he does! He is kind, patient, caring & trustworthy. Fantastic experience: My hygienist Emily was so nice! Going to the dentist is so stressful for me, but she gave me a very thorough cleaning while still being gentle and describing different steps + offering breaks. Dr. Hillary was pretty terrible when I had a few different procedures done with her (bedside manner, over medicated me for no reason, not receptive when I mentioned a trauma history so I'd need little breaks), but I love Dr. Pham. Such a nice bedside manner, but still very straightforward and clear about what you need, encouraging without being shaming at all, I feel like I'm in very good hands.

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic experience here. The front desk was super nice. She had a great smile and made sure she took care of me before and after the visit. Ahn, possibly spelled Ann, was incredible. I told her I had a pretty bad gag reflex and she was super understanding and patient with me. That's extremely important when you're looking for a dentist. Someone who is caring and patient. She was fast with the x-rays and also helped spray some numbing solution which helped a lot! If your a bad gagger like I am, this place is the place to go. They also have Nitrous!! Then came Dr. Bennett. She was amazing! Her patience with me was just as amazing as her care and professionalism. She answered all my questions without any judgement. She treats patients with extreme care. I never felt rushed with her one bit. She stayed behind to tell me what needed to be done and there was zero pressure. Scheduling with them was also a breeze. Front desk was on point all the time. Amazing staff.

Negative experience: I scheduled an appointment specifically for a routine 6-month cleaning, and when I initially called, the receptionist informed me that a full panel x-ray was required. Although I had recent x-rays, I was fine with that and agreed to book the appointment. Fast forward 2 weeks to my actual appointment, and it turns out the receptionist had only booked me for x-rays—no cleaning. So instead of getting what I originally came in for, I received redundant imaging and a brief conversation with the dentist, who suggested a follow-up with a specialist. A month has gone by and I’ve still received no referral, despite the recommendation. At the end of it all, I paid about $300 for x-rays and a referral that was never followed up on. Waste of time.

Fantastic experience: Let me say... i HATE going to the dentist. I always have. But laurelhurst has a really lovely atmosphere with kind staff and my hygienist was thorough but gentle at the same time and made me feel comfortable. I still don't like going to the dentist! But laurelhurst makes Me dislike it a bit less :)

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this office! The hygenist was super lovely and made me feel at ease (I usually get nervous at the dentist). When the doctor checked in, he was thorough. At other offices, I feel like the doctor looks in my mouth and leaves. Dr. Pham looked over the xrays thoughtfully and talk to me about potential future cavity spots and what to do to prevent them. He has great bedside manner.

Negative experience: I am going to move on. I have seen them three times. The building is not ideal - in part because the space is tight and you can hear and see other patients while getting treatment. Also parking is a challenge. But mostly I believe their hygenist are a bit rough and lack a grace I expect. It has been the most agressive and physicaly challenging dental care I have gotten. A lot of pushing of my head and discomfort for me being there. I don't know that they are just not use to someone who looks like me or what. I thought it was my imagination, but after today I am going to have to move on. I am a little perplexed by this. I don't know how to approach this, if at all, w the clinic. I guess I'll just fade out. Their level of treatment seem to communicating a need for me to go away? I feel, on some level, taken advanage of. I am out.

Fantastic experience: I have EXTREME PTSD from childhood with dental offices, & unfortunately haven’t had insurance for 10 years— so I knew I needed a deep cleaning among other things that would be pretty painful. Som was absolutely AMAZING. She genuinely tried to understand where my nerves were coming from, offered me a stress ball, weighted blanket (kinda) & gave me some tips to calm my nervous system through the procedure. She then proceeded to my x rays, injections, deep cleaning etc in the most gentle but effective way. She answered all my questions & made sure to let me know what she was doing every step of the way. Fantastic experience: I called the morning I broke a crown, they got me right in. Dr. Hannah Hawkins was so kind and professional. She asked if I wanted her to explain what she was doing as she did the procedure , which I really appreciated. They were great at explaining the insurance coverage. And in the end took a portion of the total off, as they didn’t need to do any buildup. Such a great experience, highly recommend!

The team cares about doing their best and giving their patients care, education, and needed information. Every procedure is explained well. I always know how things will be done and why. I am given alternatives to choose from and given information on costs, finances, and long-term goals. After my care, I leave knowing what I need to do to improve my dental health, I know when my next appointment is what it is for, and the out-of-pocket costs, if any. I trust the office staff, hygienists, and doctors. I think Dr Bennett and her team are wonderful.

The front desk/billing staff is highly adept at navigating the patient financial stress with the nuances of necessary dental care. The doctor and hygienist care is detailed, clear, kind, and patient-first. Dental work sucks; Laurelhurst makes it less sucky.

Negative experience: Update: Shortly after this review was posted, a person from the office called me. They stated that the owner wanted my review taken down. She offered me half of the money I lost (as credit I think?) to remove the review. After thinking about it for a while, I decided not to. Money shouldn't be a way to buy someone's voice. Original Review: After many years going here, I am highly frustrated with their billing department. I called 4 times and sent numerous emails asking for detailed invoices so I could be reimbursed from my HSA. They sent the incorrect invoices once, and I replied to the emails, plus called, over a 6 week period. (I have the emails and call history saved) It is now past the deadline to submit the claims. I am now out $486. They are quick to submit to my insurance while I am in the dental chair and bill me for the difference before I leave, but when I needed accounting, they simply did not follow through no matter who or how I asked. Very frustrating and unfortunate. After many years, I will go somewhere else. I must add this, I had a filling done between teeth where a pit was left. Everything I ate was stuck in a way that I had to tear my gums up to get it out. This was after almost every meal. While have work done on an adjacent tooth, they found the pit where the hole was not fully filled. The dentist would not fix it because it was not her mistake even though I was numb, the pit was exposed, and it would have taken minutes. Though they made the mistake right, I had to come back a while later to have the procedure, be drilled on again, numbed up again, and miss more work. There was that...

Fantastic experience: I was referred by a friend to Laurelhurst when I needed a large amount of work done. I was feeling plenty anxious as I'm a red head (we typically need a lot more Novocain, etc. than others due to a weird gene we carry- wild stuff). They treated my concerns with care, calmed my nerves, and made extra time available to make sure I was conformable while I was getting worked on. Lastly, the work they did looks FANTASTIC & I really appreciated they prioritize the cosmetic angle as well. 5 stars / would recommend!

Fantastic experience: For some reason it feels odd to review a dentistry --who likes the dentist? But I have been going to Laurelhurst Dentistry for well over a decade and was thinking, while there today, that it's been one of the services that I rarely think about. (in contrast to innumerable doctor's offices/medical institutions in town, where you feel like you're just there to get processed.) It's always pleasant while I'm there (you know, for dentistry), the people are bright and unhurried, always thorough in explaining options and letting you know exactly what's happening in your mouth. The dentists and assistants are personable and kind and astute. In the rare times where there's been an error (say a crown that's a little ill-fitting), they hurry me back in and correct the problem for free. I feel like they have my, and my mouth's, best interests at heart. My teeth are undoubtedly in better shape for their care. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: Both my wife and I had decidedly mediocre experiences here, me over a period of 2-3 years, her over a longer period. The care seems adequate and competent, as does the cleaning, but multiple times expectations were not set properly around cost of services. We have both left for other dentists.

Fantastic experience: I had a great overall experience at this dental office. To start, their front office employees were welcoming and the space was clean and comfortable. My dental hygienist, Som, was fantastic. She was personable, patient, and very knowledgable. She answered all of my questions with ease, educated me about teeth/gum health and provided me with a ton of information / recommendations about different dental products. The dentist I saw (whose name I can’t remember, I want to say it started with an M) was also patient and informative. He made sure all my questions were answered and provided me with all the info you’d expect to receive during a dental check up. I came home and told my partner, “That was the best dental experience I’ve had in adulthood. You should establish as a patient with them.” For the first time, I am looking forward to my next dental visit.

Fantastic experience: My hygienist is thorough and careful with my aging teeth. I hope she's my hygienist as long as I have teeth. My dentist spent a lot of time interpreting x-rays and asking me questions. It is clear to me that she cares for my dental health. I would recommend Laurelhurst to anyone.

Negative experience: After reading the reviews, I reached out by phone twice AND via their online contact form to make an appointment. Weeks have gone by and still no response. For anyone wondering, yes, I got help elsewhere. Luckily, another dentist's Google reviews actually matched the service and I was able to get help for my painful ordeal. I hope you all have a better experience with this establishment. I would expect better communication from them.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this small dental group. They're great. I've had a chipped tooth repaired, wisdom teeth pulled, fillings, regular cleanings and check-ups, and build-ups and a crown. Special kudos to the front desk folks who are always really helpful about insurance info and scheduling questions. The dentists take time to explain what's needed and why. And why to prioritize certain things, since I have crummy dental insurance (no dental insurance is good, imho), and modest means.

Fantastic experience: I've had a lot of dental trauma in the past, from a dentist when I was barely 18 taking advantage of me. Then, six years ago, at 26 years old, I was hit by a car while I was on my bike and broke three front teeth. I was concussed and my face was covered in fresh road rash and gashes. But, I had to have my teeth repaired. The dentist doing so decided that it was the right time to unload a recent trauma that she went through onto her captive audience (me) and it was a very terrible experience. Since then, I have not been back to a dentist. Until today. One of those fillings came loose and I needed to have it repaired. I'm luck to have found Laurelhurst Dentistry. The doctor was very kind, empathetic, communicative, and patient. She reassured me the whole way and did not pressure me to have more work done, although there is cause to go back for some additional work. I am extremely pleased with them and feel relieved to have found someone who I feel cared about by and comfortable with. Going to the dentist can be a very vulnerable and scary experience, but this is a great place. Thank you, Dr. Bennet! What you do makes a huge difference.

Fantastic experience: My fiancé and I recently moved to the area from Rhode Island. We haven't been here long, and our new insurance has not yet kicked in. Lo and behold, one evening during dinner a molar that had a filling placed a decade ago broke, filling fell out, and took most of the tooth with it. Surprisingly, I was in zero pain so I figured I would wait until insurance kicked in to go get it fixed. Three days ago I woke up with a nasty abscess/infection and a lot of pain. I reached out Laurelhurst Dentistry immediately. They got me in the next morning much to my relief ( though my anxiety was through the roof because I have dental anxiety much like many others ). I was taken back quickly, and the assistant (I am sorry I forgot his name) was friendly and explained everything he was doing, and what the doctor was going to do. He took XRays, and photos, and showed Dr. Hawkins whom came back and greeted me immediately. Turns out I had a nasty infection and the tooth could not be saved. Dr. Hawkins was incredibly kind, and NEVER made me feel like what I was going through was my fault. When it came down to the actual extraction, I felt absolutely nothing. Not even the needles used to inject the local anesthetic. It felt like it was over as quickly as it began. Aftercare instructions were clear and understandable, and she even laid out a care plan for the rest of my teeth should I choose to go back to Laurelhurst. Paying out of pocket was affordable, especially given the level of care I received. Safe to say Laurelhurst Dentistry and Dr. Hawkins have earned a patient for as long as I am living in the area.

She was just a kid, lol, when I first went to her with several teeth that needed crowns, etc. All of her work over the years has been masterful, honestly the best dental work. Dr Bennett and her assistants are always great to see, and usually, funny. Who can say that about going to the dentist? The office staff is also wonderful.

Fantastic experience: I found Laurelhurst dentistry by recommendation of one of my coworkers. This dentist office is great. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. The dentist was informational without making me feel awkward. After my cleaning, my teeth are shining and feel cleaner than they ever did from any other dentist office. Definitely glad I made the switch from Kaiser dental to Laurelhurst dentistry. 100% would recommend. This is my new family dentist office, we all love it. Can’t wait to go back for my next cleaning.

Fantastic experience: My recent appointment at Laurelhurst Dentistry went very well. From the front desk to the dental hygiene area everyone was friendly and professional. Somchanh, the dental hygienist, carefully went over my health history chart with me, took a few x-rays, and then cleaned my teeth. She explained that it’s a team effort. I was glad that I had done my part with home care: brushing, string flossing, and plastic pick flossing. Although my appointment was after the ice and snow storm, I was impressed by Somchanh’s story about carefully driving to work every day to provide patients with at least some office hours of dental care. That was true dedication! After the cleaning, Dr. Pham did an oral exam and we discussed my appointment for a CT scan and implant at Pham Dental Care in April. He explained everything clearly. I was sad to hear that Pham Dental Care had been without electricity for four days during the ice storm. I hope things are back on track for the New Year!

Fantastic experience: Went in for emergency services. Incredibly nervous due to previous dental experiences elsewhere, plus having to go out of my way into downtown for the only opening that day only added to my anxiety. But I was called back almost as soon as I had sat down. The dental tech was incredibly supportive of my apprehension and was kind, friendly, and gentle in her preliminary exam and xrays. My pain ended up needing a simple fix with no work, so I didn't get much time to assess the dentist, but I know I was shaking a lot and both techs at the beginning and end of my visit put me at ease with their warm personalities and efforts to provide excellent service. If it wasn't an inconvenient location, I would make this my regular dentist office.

Fantastic experience: This was my second visit at Laurelhurst Dentistry. Song (sp?) was my hygenist and she did an excellent job! I have TMJ, so having my mouth open for a cleaning can lead to pain and soreness after. However, Song was gentle with my jaw and my teeth were literally squeaky clean! She's awesome. I saw Dr. Pham and he was very personable, funny, and knowledgeable. I felt like he wasn't rushed and he spent the time to talk with me and answer my questions. I had a great experience and I hope I have both he and Song next time!
