Fantastic experience: Very kind and great people who are amazing at their jobs!

Negative experience: Many times they tried charging me for services I did not ask for that were not covered by my insurance. The first time I visited, the hygienist assumed I was doing the fluoride rinse. When I asked how much it cost, she said $50. I said sure because I trusted her. I went the front desk and they charged me $70. 3 out of the 4 times I went after that visit, they assumed I was getting the rinse for no reason. I even asked them not to go off plan, but they kept trying anyways. They were very nice on the outside, but conducted business like crooks.

Fantastic experience: A friendly machine over at ECS kept gently urging me to express my impression of my first visit to their impressive establishment, even though the real grinding, drilling, spackling, and gluing fun of a cap installation has yet to begin. I am giving it 5 stars, of course, because I cannot think of a single solitary thing to complain about, and it definitely is not because the wonderful Dr. Cha will soon be putting a plethora of sharp metal objects into my mouth. From admission, to radiology, to Dr. Cha, to the office manager; all were professionally top-notch and friendly. The doctor’s verdict was that we begin the reclamation process with a root canal on the saddest molar, then referred me to ARCS to get the ball rolling. My Google review of that experience can be found on their website. I have yet to schedule the cap with the immensely gifted and beautiful Dr. Cha, because it is advised that one should give the tooth a week or so to acclimate before armoring it against all future olive pits of its life. Fantastic experience: I had a cavity under an old crown, a cavity that needed a crown, and another small cavity next to the other 2 teeth. They were willing to do all in one visit, and other than the tiny pinch of the nova-cane shot, painless and they did an excellent job. I definitely would recommend them.

Positive experience: Dr Mortenson was awesome - I knew Dr. Mortenson from Dr Page's office ( he closed his office as he had a stroke); however, I went to this appointment expecting to meet my new periodontist - he was "in surgery" and could not be disturbed. I had a full mouth of xrays taken as per his "procedure" and was told I could reschedule my periodontal cleaning for another appointment or wait for the next appointment, 6 months hence. 1 appointment would have turned into 2 ... Why would they schedule me for a periodontal visit when the the periodontist I was supposed to see would not be available? As I will be seeing my dentist in 3 months and I will be having a cleaning then, I decided to wait and discuss this situation with my longtime dentist.

Fantastic experience: The office staff is always wonderful and Dr. Amy is the very best. The clinical staff is also wonderful with my son that has fear of needles and loud noises.

Negative experience: I had my wisdom tooth surgery here in July and it was a terrible experience. In my consultation, I was given a few options for sedation and we agreed that I'd be completely asleep. After the surgery they told her they'd purposefully kept me partially conscious. Also, in my consult, the pre-procedure form, and before the actual procedure I dislosed a relevant medical condition and issues with anesthesia and certain pain medications (had I been asked I happily would have provided medical documentation) but they denied that I'd told them this. I'm glad to have it done but I really wish they communicated more throughout the process. Overall, this place may be great for a lot of people, the front desk staff are nice and very helpful, the waiting area is pretty calming, and it is by no means a bad facility, but I just don't feel like it's the right place for anyone who needs more than routine cleanings based on my past experiences.

Fantastic experience: Solved a long standing problem that had baffled 4 other doctors. So happy to get to the bottom of this problem! Delighted to have met Dr Reza Modarres. Not only that, Rachel his assistant, tracked down a doctor for me via a patient with the same condition. I am so appreciative of their kindness and dedication. Since then I have had an extraction of a tooth which was the purpose of the original consultation. The office is very high tech. For the bone graft your own blood is mixed with the graft material to enhance healing and avoid rejection. He uses a membrane which functions as a ‘bandaid’ keeping all the graft packing in and avoiding the risk of very painful dry socket. The post op/ home care instructions were very thorough. Much more comprehensive than previous instructions from other dentists. Dr Modarres has a very gentle touch and a reassuring manner. His entire staff is friendly and competent. I have a lot of experience with dental offices and procedures in my life and I can say with all honesty this is the best dentist and best office I have ever been to. Every visit confirms the competence, professionalism of this dentist. I can’t say enough good things about Dr Modarres.

Fantastic experience: I switched to EC Smiles Dental Group after my previous dentist stopped accepting my insurance. I’ve had nothing but amazing care and am so glad I found a dentist I love and trust. Dr. Cha is kind, gentle, and punctual. Everyone in the office is friendly and they communicate well regarding fees and scheduling. A bonus to this group is that they have specialists on staff, so you can get in-office consultations for almost any dental issue.

Fantastic experience: I got my wisdom teeth out here last week. The surgery felt like it took 10-15 minutes maximum, and the staff was extremely kind and caring. I experienced little to no pain, even after the surgery- and really just took the pain meds for a few days as a preventative measure. I would highly recommend this office.

Fantastic experience: Just moved to Ellicott City and had to pick a Dentist. Let me tell you, I HATE going to the dentist normally. But this place was awesome. Had to get two fillings re-done that were old and falling apart. They had such great bedside manner (I'm a big wimp despite being 45) and were so friendly and patient with me. Explained everything, used extra numbing stuff, etc. It was the easiest cavity filling I've ever had done and the staff were so nice! Also the place is super modern and efficient. I was in and out for TWO fillings in under an hour, couldn't believe it.

Fantastic experience: Ellicott City Smiles is a dental practice where both the professional and the support staff exceed expectations. COMPETENT – PROFESSIONAL – KIND – COMPASSIONATE .. That is what I found when I went to Dr. Modarres as a new patient yesterday. Dr. Modarres is extraordinary in his professional dental knowledge and skills .. (what you learn in dental school - reading a CT Scan/Xray and the other skills you expect from a periodontist) AND has outstanding people skills (really listened to me and took the time to address not only my words describing my problem but my anxious feelings) AND is also compassionate and patient and kind (explained what was going on more than once till my friend and I really understood) My regular periodontist had a stroke and his office referred me to Dr. Modarres. I was there for a quick emergency “fit me in” appointment to look at my “problem tooth”. Dr. Modarres had never met me before. Nevertheless, I felt he cared about not only my teeth but cared about me personally. Dr. Modarres treated me like a patient he had known for years. Dr. Modarres is a periodontist. I had already been seen by 2 different general dentists and an endodontist. Nevertheless, Dr. Modarres put fresh eyes on my case. Dr. Modarres, recognized that what was going on with my tooth was not a routine problem. Even though I was a “fit me in appointment”, I never felt rushed or like my problem was being skimmed over. Dr. Modarres recognized a potentially serious problem and reached out to an oral surgeon to arrange for me to have an emergency consultation with the surgeon who was particularly qualified to determine the next steps for treating my problem. Dr. Modarres’ support staff was also remarkable. They worked together seamlessly to enable Dr. Modarres to focus on the dental work that required his skills and knowledge. My positive experience at Ellicott City Smiles began with Brielle, who answered the phone. She listened patiently and compassionately to my too long explanation of why I needed an appointment ASAP. Right away Brielle made me feel like I was heard and cared for. When I arrived, Jenna at the front desk was warm and welcoming and prepared. Hails, the dental assistant, shepherded me through almost 2 hours. She was amazing how she balanced keeping me comfortable and preparing the technology and material for Dr. Modarres. Each staff person did their part in making Ellicott City Smiles exceptional. There are no words to express my gratitude and respect for Dr. Modarres as a professional and a caring person.

Positive experience: I received a referral to UMBC dental.. A 6 to 12 weeks waiting time for an appointment and I might not even get accepted into their program due to no xrays. I need to know how much for xrays? I was charged $175 for just a consuls that I really could not afford so I need to know how much for xrays? Went back for xrays...my consult money was returned and xrays were done at no charge. Rachel was very thorough. Explained everything and definitely will go back for new dentures. Recommends this place to everyone. Thanks

Fantastic experience: 1/26/2021 had surgical procedure for implant post. The team of Dr. Modarres and Rachie assisting were amazing. Rachie anticipated what Dr. Modarres needed next and continually checked to be sure I was tolerating the procedure well. Most high-tech dental practice with everything state-of-the-art Fitted for new night guard and it was so comfortable I barely knew I was wearing it to sleep. Compassionate, caring dental practice. They provide top-notch care! Continue to highly recommend. June 3rd new dental implant crown installed. After chewing on right side on 6/5 with pain in different tooth, called Monday 6/7 and got emergency appointment with Dr. Modarres later that afternoon. Referred to root canal specialist, saw June 9th with report back to Dr. Modarres for treatment options to resolve issue. Outstanding responses and follow up so I can move forward! July 27, 2021 After root canal work done by Advanced Root Canal had appointment to place permanent crown on #2. All health protocols followed. Continually pleased with the precision work of Dr. Karr and staff in making sure the crown fits correctly. Also scheduled appointments for additional crown work to be done. Good interactions with all staff. Great dental practice and highly recommend! September 16, 2021 appointment to place one permanent crown and do work for temporary crown on another tooth on lower left side. Excellent appointment and completed in a timely manner. When I got home I was concerned about the impact of how numb the entire left side of my face was. Called and spoke with Dr. Karr. She explained how the process is different between upper and lower levels and that is will take a while longer for the numbness to go away. I was relieved and indeed it was totally back to normal a few hours later. Responsive to my concerns. Highly recommend this dental practice. January 18 2023 had dental hygiene appointment with Brenda. She does an excellent job. Also saw Dr Karr and we discussed need for several new crowns. They checked my insurance so I would know what my cost would be and we got everything scheduled to take care of the work to be done. Outstanding dental practice. Highly recommend! October 17, 2024 had 3 month dental hygiene appointment with Brenda. Thorough and provides feedback for me so I can continue improving. Seen by Dr. Karr and we reviewed several areas watching for possible work in the future. Best dental practice. Top notch state-of-art equipment. In the almost 5 years I've been a patient lots of growth in what they offer to patients with a one-stop shop approach. Highly recommend. January 16, 2025 had quarterly dental hygiene appointment with Brenda. Always provides feedback on progress and areas for focus. Front desk staff always greet me upon arrival and let me know I'm leaving if any payment is required. Outstanding dental practice with a one-stop shop approach. Highly recommend. May 22, 2025 had delayed quarterly dental hygiene appointment with Brenda and also seen by Dr. Kaur to move forward with 2 new crowns. Excellent on all counts. Highly recommend. June 25, 2025 for two new temporary crowns with Dr. Kaur and her assistant, Jessica. Outstanding as always. Highly recommend.

No but she rocks. The hygienist is the bomb, love me some Sheyoka. Overall great experience no matter what I needed.

Positive experience: I really wanted to like this practice. Front desk is prompt and responsive. Dr. Modarres is genuinely caring and understanding. His assistant, Shelby, is super nice, too. But I went to a different provider for two reasons: 1) They are not transparent with their billing practices. When I emailed them about a CBCT scan they performed, I did not get clear explanation for why they coded the procedure the way they did, which ended costing me more out of pocket. 2) Their availability is quite limited. After the initial appointment, the earliest they could schedule the extraction was six weeks out.

Fantastic experience: My wisdom tooth procedure was pain free & I felt great leaving the office (I was still numb)! I opted for nitrous because my upper right was extremely high/ impacted & roots were curved. I do feel the nitrous helped with some of the stress of being awake and stopped my body from stiffening up against the pressure - but I don't have dental anxiety at all so it was mostly on my doctors recommendation that I agreed to that method. Dr. Carrington - as well as all my doctors here - was very mindful & conscious of my comfort level, consistently checking / asking how I was feeling before during & after my procedure. As well as the dental assistant Jenna, she worked seamlessly with my oral surgeon to ensure I was heard, monitored & relaxed! Dr.Carrington is extremely experienced in what she does and I was only in the room for less than an hour. I feel my entire procedure was about 35-40 min. (Actively pulling/cutting teeth). All my medications were sent to my correct pharmacy & I was well informed on how to administer them and what to do post op.

Fantastic experience: I recently started seeing Dr. Modarres for dental surgery, and I couldn't be more grateful for the care I’ve received. From the very beginning, the entire experience has been exceptional. Dr. Modarres is not only highly skilled but also incredibly compassionate and attentive. He took the time to walk me through every step of the process and has been extremely thoughtful about my aftercare, ensuring I heal properly and achieve the best possible results. The office itself is modern, clean, and equipped with the latest technology, which gave me a lot of confidence in the care I was receiving. The environment actually made me more mindful and proactive about my dental health, which is something I hadn’t experienced before. The entire team is warm, caring, and truly committed to their patients. I feel very lucky to have found this practice and can’t recommend Dr. Modarres enough for anyone needing periodontal care or just a supportive, high-quality dental experience.

Fantastic experience: This is the first dental office that took the time and care for me after a absolutely horrible past experience with another office. It took me years to go to an office, to the point my dental state was meh. Let my fear and trauma not go for annual checkups for years on "0". I just focused on work and family. As a resolution to take better care, I searched for what was "in network", good recommendations and their facility. Boy, was I impressed! I paid extra for the giggle gas to ease my anxiety ro the poinr I don't need it. They listened and gave me options for my dental health. They fully explained my treatment plan and was honest. They gave me a cost breakdown so I make a decision in what makes fiscally sense. When they no longer accepted my previous insurance, they communicated in advance and when I asked "what is the best dental insurance?" They explained the pros and cons of the plans. Helped me choose what aligns for my dental health. A year later, my dental health was significantly better and I feel great about my teeth. The staff (especially the receptionists), dentists, and overall office is a phenomenal team! Even my son was impressed by the "posh" look but inviting and demure atmosphere. 11/10, highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I was in terrible pain from a tooth infection and Dr. Modarres and Shelby performed a same day afternoon extraction on me! I loved this practice before, but to see how caring and compassionate Dr. Modarres is just makes me love it even more! He saw that I was crying and asked me if I would like him to take the tooth out that day! This is going above and beyond in my opinion. They managed to fit me in on a busy afternoon to help me out! Brenda has a wonderful sense of humor, is comforting, and is exceptionally thorough with every visit. The offices have been updated with the most modern equipment and are beautiful and relaxing. Dr. Modarres is great, has added to his practice with additional specialists for all dental needs in one place, and is supporting to and well regarded by his staff.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Modarres was a pro. I had no issues with my operation. They have cutting edge technology, good staff, and a team of administrators that are better at interfacing with insurance than other offices I’ve been to.

Fantastic experience: The entire staff was so friendly and welcoming!! Courtney at the front desk was very professional and so helpful with my insurance issues. Dr Modarres took the time to explain everything to me. He was very patient and kind. Finally my hygienist Sheyoka was amazing!! I haven’t been to the dentist in three years and she made me feel so comfortable and at ease. I can’t say enough great things about this office!

Positive experience: My Mother was able to be seen at the appointed time, the dental hygienist took her blood pressure and confirmed the reason for our visit. The dentist reviewed my Mother’s chart and after a cursory examination of her mouth gave us her professional opinion on our potential next steps regarding her oral care. Another staffer came in and scheduled the next appointment and talked finances. She also accompanied us to the payment window. We scheduled the appointment so that we could see both the dentist and prosthodontist and unfortunately the doctor was not in the office at the time of our appointment requiring us to come for another visit.

Fantastic experience: My last visit should have never happened. My dental insurance is no longer accepted and i didn’t find out until after services were rendered.. My bill at checkout was $210 because my dental plan is no longer accepted. Had I known this I would have never set the appt. I just feel like someone could have told me that and let me decide if I wanted to pay $210 to have my teeth cleaned. So now I will just find a new dentist. I checked in early which I never do and with all that I was still not advised of my plan no longer being accepted. I would have let the patient know and let the patient make a decision. But no, that was not an option for this dental group. The service was ok other than having to wait for 30 minutes and find out after waiting for 30 minutes and being slapped with a payment due at the end that was eye opening to say the least. What a downer. I really liked this place.

From the moment I walked into the office the staff was very pleasant made me feel like I had been coming there for a long time it was only my second visit. Fantastic experience: This is a full service dental group. They are up to speed on dental care. The office is open and comfortable. I have had some major dental work done there and I was very impressed. The dentists consulted among themselves to come up with a treatment plan. While they might have gone with the more painful and costly treatment, they met with me and fully explained why they recommended the treatment that they did. I was very impressed. The follow up was easy to schedule and when I need to have something checked out it is easy to get in. I very much appreciate and like this dental group. I highly recommend Dr Khatra and her associates.

Fantastic experience: I had a great expierence with Ellicott City Smiles. I had a wisdom tooth that was killing me. Several oral surgeons in the area wouldn’t see me for over a month. Ellicott City Smiles realized I was in pain, and saw me for a consult almost immediately. They answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. Within a week, all 4 of my wisdom teeth were extracted. This was on a Wednesday, and I was back at work by Friday. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience given the circumstances. Special shoutout to Rachael at the front desk for being on top of everything and communicating changes as things moved quickly!

Fantastic experience: I was scheduled to have my temporary crown replaced a couple weeks from now. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call offering me an earlier day. The new crown fit and night guard both fit perfectly and I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! Great work guys!!

Fantastic experience: I love Dr. Alireza Modarres! I became his patient because I had a gum infection. I also recently had a surgery which comprised of three extractions and bone grafts. I don’t have enough words of appreciation for Dr. Modarres. He took time to explain all the procedures and implications while taking in consideration my concerns and budget. During surgery they took care of me beyond my expectations and always checked if I was alright. I see Dr. Modarres as a warm, genuine, and personable doctor. I always look forward to my appointments. After surgery it turned out that my insurance covered a lot more than expected, Ellicott City Smile Dental group issued me a check right away with the amount. Arianna, my dental hygienist is very kind and her hands feel like a feather. She let me play my fav meditation music during deep cleaning sessions. I recommended this place to anyone who is looking for amazing dental care. :)

Positive experience: My first appointment left me feeling uneasy. I was in the market for a new dentist because I got new insurance with my new job. The dentist didn't really explain exactly what was going on during my consultation with her, it was somewhat painful, and I felt like I was being judged at the end. I really enjoy personable healthcare providers and ones that explain things thoroughly before doing them. I work in education not the medical field so a quick explanation is helpful and eases my anxiety. So long story short I was really unsure about this place until I had my cleaning with Mrs. Brenda! She is the absolute best and today was my second time having a cleaning with her. She’s kind and explains everything she’s doing which is a BIG plus when you’re feeling anxious! She also gives advice without making you feel like you’re being judged. I really appreciate her.
