Negative experience: We had just moved to Springfield from Kansas City and saw good reviews for McKowen. The practices were very strange from beginning to end. The office requires you to come in for a consultation prior to being able to clean your teeth (all fine, a little time consuming and not an experience I have had before). Following the consultation, they schedule your cleaning. The ladies at the front counter were really lovely to speak with and had me sign a paper, stating it was permission to have services. After my regular cleaning, I received a bill for "advanced cleaning" where they categorized the fact that I bleed on some gums as needing additional services. I have really great insurance, have never had a cavity or dental problem, and have never been charged for basic services. The billing department refused to re-enter the services, though I had never received communication I was receiving additional services. I also never saw the dentist. My husband went twice and also has never seen the dentist. Such an odd (and expensive) experience.

Fantastic experience: 12/5 I was experiencing pain in my jaw and called to schedule an appointment, they got me in the next day, way faster than I had thought possible. Dr Chris read some X-rays but couldn’t find anything and then asked me if I grinded my teeth, which I do. He explained how a cavity I had gotten previously was offsetting my bite and that discomfort was created from that when I grinded my teeth. After some quick filing, my bite felt much better and I have not had anymore pain in that area since. I went in thinking I needed to have a tooth pulled or another filling but Dr Chris was able to fix it much more simply as well as quicker, he’s the best and there’s no other doctor I ever plan on opening up and saying ahhh to!! 8/21 McKowen Family Dental is home of the most caring & professional staff, everyone makes you feel at home, just like one big family. Most of the time people don’t look forward to going to the dentist but Dr Chris is someone you’ll look forward to seeing again & again as he is not only the best at what he does but makes you feel comfortable and takes time explaining everything.

Fantastic experience: Jordan was my hygienist today. One of the friendliness, upbeat, kind hearted people. She had a smile that could light up a room. Extremely thorough, double checked to make sure everything was covered thru the insurance and gave me a flawless cleaning! Dr. Chris came in to double check everything. Friendly and caring as can be. You've got a great staff there at McKowen Family Dental! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Fantastic experience: I was in for a replacement crown. Staff were very thorough and careful removing the old crown, customizing and placing the temp crown, and cleaning up any residue. I recommend MFD!

Fantastic experience: I chipped my bottom front tooth. They got me in quick to get it taken care of. Christina did a great job on my filling you can't even tell it has had work done. Very friendly and personable. All staff are friendly. Chris is a really good dentist and always very pleasant and friendly.

Fantastic experience: I am an established patient. I was having pain and wanted to have it checked before the weekend. I was able to get an appointment within 2 hours from the time I called. I was treated and on my home in less than an hour. The visit was great, they are always friendly and helpful.

I just had an exam and cleaning and both Dr McKowen and hygienist (not sure I should mention names) were pleasant and professional. Very happy with both. I was also VERY happy to find out they will continue to be in the UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan network as well.

Positive experience: Found this dental office through our dental insurance as a preferred provider. Staff was friendly and nice. Hubby needed massive dental work but was also nervous about having a strangers work put in his mouth. We asked to have our known dental lab be used which they first agreed it would be fine however when the time came they told my husband that it wouldn't be possible. Needless to say his temps look better than his permanent. Don't get me wrong its better than what his teeth were but definitely doesn't look like a 10-12k job. His teeth now look extremely fake. I've seen full sets of dentures look better. As for me , I won't be returning for any further dental visits.

Fantastic experience: after years of not going to the dentist, and having insurance now, i went back to mckowen where i had been seen years prior. i was admittedly nervous and embarrassed due to the length of time i had gone without a proper cleaning. andy (andrea) and dr. chris really made me feel so much better. no guilt trips or anything, just pure gratitude and excitement that i was there taking care of my teeth. plus booking my appointment was super easy, im not surprised by how full their schedules are. i feel so much better after going and getting a full work up! andy did a great job explaining all the things we would be doing that day. i felt very comfortable, i was even offered some pain relief for the most intense parts of my cleaning since it had been a while. i’m so glad i went! smiling nonstop!

Fantastic experience: I was in recently for a full checkup and cleaning. As usual all the staff was exceptionally friendly from the front desk to the back. Jill was my hygienist, and I have to give her 5 . She did one of the best cleanings I've ever had in my life if not THE best! She didn't flood my mouth with water and make me feel like I'm drowning. I've always struggled with keeping plaque down or off my front lower teet on the back and she got it good! My muscle memory of a tongue is resting now as it's always busy trying to make sure nothing is left behind in my mouth! Thank you Jill!!!

Almost didn't feel the numbing injections, very surprised. Being that I'm a Veteran, they work hard to get me approved for my visits.

Fantastic experience: I had to have a crown put on and it’s been years since I’ve had this done. I was very apprehensive about the process and Dr Mckowen was extremely supportive of my concerns. I didn’t feel a thing from the needle that deadens to the completion of the crown on my tooth. Not even the slightest bit of pain. If you are a coward like me when it comes to dentistry he and his staff are the ones you need to go see.

Negative experience: Not a dentist for kids. We went through 5-6 x-rays in one sitting on my 7 year old who had an abscess. They apparently didn’t have the technique or tools to properly x-ray a child, then were very rude with us when we asked if we could stop or try another way as they insisted we should keep trying more x-rays and the previous 5-6 weren’t the right angle. Of course we know x-rays are sometimes medically necessary, but I couldn’t believe they kept pushing to just keep trying without any regard for the child! At our next visit, our oldest was a bit nervous after her previous negative experience. The dental hygienist was impatient and rude with us- enough that I considered leaving during the visit. She later told my daughter aggressively, “Are you kidding? Absolutely not, it’s against the law” when she asked to spit in the sink to spit out the remaining polish. She was apparently joking, but she had been so curt and harsh with us during the visit, we couldn’t tell. Probably not the way to handle an already uncomfortable encounter for a young child. We won’t be returning.

Fantastic experience: Good experience. On time, efficient, organized. Excellent job cleaning, polishing and flossing my teeth. Tiffany is great. I have never had a bad experience in 4-5 years.
