Positive experience: I was recently there for a new patient appointment. The office itself was very clean and well maintained; however, it was extremely cold inside. It was 10 degrees outside this morning, and it honestly felt like the heat may not have been on. The temperature made the entire appointment uncomfortable and less than ideal. Unfortunately, due to how cold the office was, I can only give 3 stars overall. I had my thick winter jacket on for the entire appointment and was still miserable. Others in the lobby expressed the same concerns, and I genuinely felt bad for the staff who were clearly freezing as well. I’m hopeful the HVAC situation will be addressed before my next visit; otherwise, I may need to reschedule for a different day or time when it’s resolved. I do want mention that Ashley was my hygienist, and she was absolutely amazing. She explained everything she was doing before proceeding, which really put me at ease and made me feel comfortable throughout the visit. She is a top notch professional! There is an office pup, which was a plus. He’s adorable, but he didn’t seem very comfortable with interaction and growled when I spoke to him, so I kept my distance. One last note — I also noticed cookies out for patients to consume, which I found a bit odd at a dental office… but hey, job security, right?

Negative experience: If I could put no stars, it would be more fitting. The dentist pulled my top teeth and added bone. The bone fell out, went to the summer regional hospital, and he punctured my sinus cavity, was septic, and had to have IV antibiotics. When returning to his office, he knew what had happened and then gave me a referral to an orthodontist, even after paying $8,000. My attorney advised me to ask for a refund of half the amount before proceeding, and they said NO! Contacting my insurance company to see what they paid. Seriously, by far the absolutely worst experience I have ever had. I also had to see an ENT doctor because of the sinus issues. If anyone sees this post, I would be happy to post pictures of hospital paperwork, ENT paperwork, and pictures of what I looked like. The fact that he referred me to a orthdonsit which would cost even more money tells you how they do business. Didn't even offer to fix what had happened!!!!

Fantastic experience: Had a crown come off and needed it put back on asap as I was leaving town. Sumner Dental got me in right away. Checked the area over as well as the crown for any potential issues. All I needed was to have it cemented in place. Very quick, very gentle and very friendly place. I’m the opposite of an anxious dental patient, but I can say the staff and office are comforting and put you at ease. Fantastic experience: This was my first time going and it was such a good experience! I hate going to the dentist so I was apprehensive about my appointment but the whole team from the front desk staff to my hygienist and doc made me feel very comfortable. My dental hygienist was Ashley, she was very sweet, listened to my concerns and adressed them. She was very thorough in her cleaning but still worked at a good pace and did incredible explaining all she was doing which helped relax me a lot. It was a wonderful experience overall and I’m happy I found their office so now going to the dentist won’t be so dreadful! Fantastic experience: I called to make an appointment for some pain I was having, I was able to get an appointment the next day. Got there for my appointment and checked in and sat down for less than 5 mins before I was called back by Lena, who was super nice and friendly and explained everything that was going to be done. Went into the patient room and Lena did her thorough exam so that she had plenty of information to pass on to Dr. Caroline. She went and talked with Dr. Caroline and they were both back in my room in a couple of minutes. Dr. Caroline is very nice and friendly. She listened to what was going on and then showed me my x-rays and explained what they showed in a way that was easy to understand. I was referred to an oral surgeon before I left the room. I made my appointment for a full exam and cleaning and was able to get one quick without having to wait months for an appointment. I recommend this practice 100%! My family has found a new dentist :) All of the staff there was very welcoming and had smiles on their faces! If you’re looking for a new dentist this is where you need to go!

Fantastic experience: Updated review (8/6/2025): Since my initial review (a few years ago & below), there has been a lot of positive change, as would be expected when re-establishing an existing office as your ‘new’ office! The whole aesthetics of the inside (lobby, bathroom, hallways, customer service desk, hygienist rooms) have been updated and modernized & are very welcoming and fun! I had wanted to leave the practice after the first several visits because I no longer had any real ties since my childhood & just didn’t feel connected to the new staff/team. After giving several hygienists a try, I finally landed with Ashley & she is AMAZING!!! She has the best personality & I always feel comfortable in her chair. She takes her time to thoroughly clean without causing any discomfort!! I always feel super “SMILEY” when I leave!! I have decided to stay with Sumner Dental Group (even though I do commute ~45 mins from my residence) because they are a 5 ⭐️ office & staff!!

Fantastic experience: If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Dr. Caroline and Ms. Stephanie are so amazing. They are the sweetest people ever. Stephanie was the best at calming me down when I was nervous. She has the sweetest soul. Dr. Caroline is amazing! I’m sitting the parking lot after two root canals and a bridge placement and I felt NO pain. I dozed off in the chair while she was working. She’s so kind and gentle. You can tell she has a passion for what she does and goes above and beyond any expectations. Everyone is this office made all my experiences here wonderful! Dr. Patel, Ashley, all the front office, and even the sweet puppy all work together in unison to make a trip to the dentist pleasant. Negative experience: I had a quote from the previous Dentist (RIP). After his death, I was told my procedure would now cost $100 more - and they corkscrew two me why, couldn't find the original quote, never gave an explanation of the cost difference. It's like Patel just raised the price and made me pay out of pocket. When I arrived, I also found the hygienist that has worked there for 30 years was fired and many other employees had either been fired or quit. Dr Mays always told me I had a small mouth, where Dr Patel told me I had a fat tongue. Very rude. The entire situation made me very uncomfortable. After going to Dr Mays for 27 years, I went to Dr Patel twice. Will never go back.

Before his passing in 2021, Dr. Mays had begun the process of transitioning the practice to Dr. Patel to ensure continuity of care for his long-standing patients. His unexpected passing understandably created a period of transition for the office, and we recognize that changes in staff and processes may have felt abrupt or unsettling.
We sincerely apologize for the $100 difference between the estimate you received prior to 2021 and the cost you were quoted more recently. Over the past several years, increases in material, lab, and staffing costs have unfortunately made some fee adjustments necessary. That said, we regret that this change was not clearly communicated to you, and we understand how frustrating that must have been.
Due to HIPAA regulations, we cannot discuss patient-specific details in a public forum. However, we would be more than willing to speak with you directly to review your concerns, explain any differences, and ensure your questions are fully addressed.
We truly value our patients — especially those with such long-standing relationships with the practice — and we’re sorry to hear your recent experience didn’t reflect the level of care you were accustomed to.

I called on a Wednesday out of sheer desperation due to my toothache and they got me seen same day for a consult and scheduled for an extraction two days later not to mention they got my nerve pain taken care of for me!! My tooth extraction was the smoothest dental procedure I’ve ever experienced! Dr. Caroline is a true professional! She listened when I was feeling discomfort through the procedure, and made sure I was comfortable again before proceeding with the extraction. We can’t forget Mrs. Stephanie both of these amazing ladies were top tier when it came to hospitality and care I received!!! These two will have you smiling and laughing the entire time! Fantastic experience: I have had a fear of dentistry work for pretty much my entire life. I always end up having a full blown panic attack and it prevents me from truly being able to take care of my teeth the way I should. I went to my first appointment at Sumner Dental Group this past Friday, and I was absolutely blown away. First off all, they have an emotional support dog there named Teddy who greeted me the second I walked through the door. GREEN FLAG. The staff was AMAZING. The dentist was amazing and they made me feel so comfortable, walked and talked me through the procedure and helped me tremendously with my peeking anxiety. I will never go to another dental office for anything related to my mouth health again.

Fantastic experience: I love this place! I’m not a particular fan of going to the dentist but they were great. Specifically I have to brag on Dr. Caroline and her hygienist. They are so sweet and both constantly checking up to make sure nothing hurt or made sure I was comfortable. All around a great practice!
