Negative experience: Scammy, Dishonest and Profit-Driven practice — beware of the good reviews. Peppermint Dental tried to upsell both me and my wife on gingival irrigation for all four quadrants — a $120 out-of-pocket add-on that’s almost never covered by insurance and unnecessary for healthy gums. When I refused and requested a standard cleaning (which is fully covered by my insurance and what I’ve always done elsewhere), they flat-out refused to perform it, saying it’s “their policy.” That’s not policy — that’s an upsell disguised as medical advice. Preventive cleanings are a basic right under dental insurance, and denying them unless you pay extra is unethical. To make things worse, when I asked for my X-rays (which were already covered by my insurance so I could get a second opinion), they tried to charge me $25 just to access them. They also told me that they ran my insurance and I was covered for the exam, when I did not take their upsell, then ended up sending me the bill for the x-rays saying insurance won't cover them. They should be able to know this before hand if they run the insurance on file. The 4.8-star rating here is misleading — it clearly doesn’t reflect the full truth. Many of the lower reviews describe the exact same experience of being pressured into unnecessary, non-covered procedures. This kind of behavior erodes trust in healthcare and exploits patients who may not know better. If you value transparency and honest care, go somewhere else. Peppermint Dental seems more focused on maximizing billing than patient well-being.

The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is calm and inviting. This is one of the best dental experiences I’ve had, and I’m so glad I found this office.

She answered all of my questions, which were A LOT, and explained it all to me and my healing timeline. Negative experience: Very friendly practice, loved the DDS and the care plan was great. However, a mistake was made with insurance that ended up costing me several hundred out of pocket. Apparently the practice was covered and ALMOST all the dentists were, except the one the front desk recommended. I ended up switching to a different office due to that.

My hygienist today was Sebastian, he was thorough, prompt, and I didn’t feel a thing. I also noticed recent upgrades and expansion in the office. A very positive experience overall as usual.

Negative experience: Stay far away from Peppermint Dental & Orthodontics – McKinney. This place is all about upselling treatments you don’t need. They claimed I had cavities that didn’t exist — thankfully I got a second opinion and avoided unnecessary work. The quality of care is poor, and behind the small talk and fake smiles is a team more focused on pushing procedures than providing honest dental care. Don’t fall for it. I have dental anxiety, and everyone has been so patient with me through the process. My son had his wisdom teeth removed, and the procedure took less than one hour. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the service, and we will continue using Peppermint going forward!

Fantastic experience: The staff are always pleasant and the hygienist is gentle while cleaning my teeth, which I appreciate. Can’t say enough good things about Dr Phu. She’s thorough in checking my teeth, especially areas around my crowns. Then discusses areas to be watched and about how long before action needs to be taken, but I never feel pressured to have work done. When I was in last, I’d had a rough couple of months prior and she gave me a hug and said she’d say a prayer for me that evening. I could feel the compassion from her.

Fantastic experience: I went in for a consultation due to some pretty severe pain and the staff here are exceptional! I couldn’t find an appointment for days anywhere near me so a family member suggested peppermint. I called and they set me up with an appointment just a few hours later. When I got there I waited less than 5 minutes to be seen. I was taken back for X-rays and the dental assistant could tell how much pain I was in so he worked around it taking only the absolutely necessary scans. I was then taken to my chair and the dentist came in very quickly and determined the cause of my pain within minutes. I had to have my wisdom teeth removed and they did it immediately! I was in and out for unexpected wisdom teeth removal in 1 1/2 hours and have had zero pain since the moment I left their office. And their pricing is unbeatable!!! Along with their low pricing they offer flexible payment options that are a life saver, just make sure you bring your debit card in order to sign up for it! I cannot recommend this place enough! I will forever be coming here for all my dental needs!!!

Negative experience: I only left a star because Google will not allow me to leave ZERO stars - which this place deserves. I NEVER leave reviews but this place is a disgrace. I will only give ONE front desk receptionist grace, because she made a great effort to get me in very last minute and it is so unfortunate that I cannot remember her name. I explained that I moved from another state to TX and needed to find an orthodontist to continue treatment for my braces. She squeezed me in due to an unfortunate circumstance and had me meet with a dentist named Dr. Chin. He entered the room and did not even have the courtesy to ask me how I am, introduce himself, NOTHING. He got straight to the point and aggressively opened my mouth to examine. He had nothing but negative things to say about my teeth and prior to moving to TX, I went to the dentist at least twice a year for cleansing and to my orthodontist once a month. I have no cavitities, nothing for him to be as negative and pessimistic as he was - pushing on services he claimed I needed for my teeth that were not necessary. Today, I then met with Dr. Rachel Bellan. She initially came in very sweet, very charming. Once I disclosed my frustration with my experience so far with the office and wanting to just have my braces taken off, her E N T I R E demeanor changed. She did not spend more than SIXTY SECONDS in that consultation room with me. She spent MAYBE a total of TEN seconds looking at my mouth. She told me she is going to have someone from the front come in and speak to me about numbers. The lady from the front (Bianca) came in the room also, EXTREMELY charming and nice. She told me it would be $500 to have not even 20 brackets removed from my teeth and it would be another $500 for a retainer. I laughed because I have never in my life heard such extreme numbers for these procedures, ESPECIALLY while I have insurance that their practice accepts. She INSTANTLY caught an attitude and stopped speaking and silently walked me out of the room. I then asked Bianca for copies of the X-rays from the dental AND ortho visit to be submitted to my email. She said she can do that. I followed her to the front desk, and she said she'll send it in a few minutes. I asked her to confirm the correct spelling of my email and she became even more brief and rude. I waited in the parking lot for almost ten minutes, and she sent the ortho X-rays I took today. I responded to her email in less than 5 minutes reminding that I am also requesting my dental X-rays from yesterday. I let a couple hours pass and I received no response. I then called the office and spoke with Yesenia, who when I asked about the status of those documents being submitted, asked for me to wait on a brief hold. Upon her return within one minute, she informs me that Bianca cannot make the executive decision of submitting dental X-rays and that the dental manager said I needed to pay a $25 release fee. Now this is my problem. Why would Bianca agree to submitting me requested documents if she knew she is not in the place to approve that kind of request? Why did it take for me to call the office AFTER ALREADY REPLYING TO HER EMAIL WITH MY ORTHO X-RAYS, REMINDING HER THAT I ALSO REQUESTED THE DENTAL X-RAYS, to find out that there is a fee for the dental X-rays? I took over 15 X-rays during my dental visit which was just yesterday, 3/26/25. I asked if I would need to take anymore for my ortho visit and I was REASSURED that no further X-rays would be necessary. I come back in today and was mandated to take two more X-ray - one of which I already took yesterday! I am really disgusted with the way Dr. Chin, Dr. Bellan, and Bianca spoke and handled me. Their office also needs A LOT of renovation! I observed the encounters between the staff and the Hispanic and Caucasian patients and noticed a complete difference from what I experienced. I immediately went to another practice and was treated like a normal and well respected human being. No level of desperation exists on this Earth to cause me to return to this place.

I sat up all weekend with the worst toothache, and then just my luck i broke my other tooth on some crunchy food. I thought finding a last minute dentist was going to be a nightmare, but i called peppermint on monday morning and they were able to get me in quick. Once in,the staff was very welcoming and this really eased my mind. The entire process was very professinal and well explained. Once we had a game plan the team was able to perfom the dreaded root canal quick and painlessly. I highly recommend this place.

I felt like they expected me to make decisions about what needed to be done and when I made a decision, I was treated indifferently and questioned about the decision. There were assessments made by the dentist, that were new, but she didn't follow up on with them. I will not be returning to this office.
