Negative experience: Unfortunately, all of the negative reviews about this practice are true. I was led to believe that they are in-network, even after confirming, and that my fillings would be covered by insurance. They knew what insurance I had. Only after my fillings were done was I informed that they are not in-network for my insurance. I would never have come here had I known that, and am instead out hundreds of dollars for something that should have been a covered treatment. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.

Negative experience: Had a great experience with ismile until after I realized that they had miscommunicated about being in network and overcharged my insurance for a basic dental cleaning. I went to back to the clinic in person to address this, emailed the owner twice, and got zero response. Beware that once they get your $ they don’t care about what happens afterwards. Storytime! I am very insurance savvy and had called the clinic ahead of confirming the appointment to ask whether iSmile was in network for my insurance. The receptionist who picked up the phone said yes, which is what gave me reassurance to do my dental cleaning here. After my cleaning, I confirmed with reception on any next steps / out of pocket balance and she confirmed I was good to go and there was no outstanding balance needed from me. Fast forward, I see that this claim was processed out of network, despite the confirmation staff had given me prior to the visit. Insurance has deducted $942 from my out of coverage balance for just a single dental cleaning and xrays that the dentist suggested I take (despite me telling her I already had X-rays as recent as 3 months). Other negative reviews focus on the same issues so the clinic knows what they’re doing here….

Fantastic experience: My experience with this team started with a very short waiting time for the appointment. I met a polite and efficient front desk team that directed me to Crystal , hygienists. Her gentle touch certainly made me forget I was in dental office. She was very thorough and diligent. Dr. Patel ,who saw me after a dental cleaning, was attentive and discussed my future necessary treatment options in details and without me feeling rushed. I am so happy I have found a new dentist after my previous dentist I was for 30, retired.

Negative experience: I had good experiences here up until 2024. They kept rebooking me for a filling (moved 3 times). When I finally went in they botched my filling and I had a lot of sensitivity and pain. I went back for them to “fix” it by flattening my bite, but that didn’t help since it wasn’t the root issue. I had to go to another dentist to redo the filling and fix it. Won’t be going back, All around pretty awful experience.

Fantastic experience: I always enjoy visiting this dental office. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the facility is spotless. They utilize modern x-ray technology, which is impressive. The hygienists are highly skilled and do an excellent job with cleanings. The only minor drawback is that parking in the area can be a bit challenging.

Fantastic experience: Overall great and friendly service, but wanted to highlight Rob (hygienist) attention to detail and patience explaining procedures that I must admit no one had explained proper flossing in such detail and care and maintenance of teeth. Negative experience: Terrible 1st experience for a potential new patient. I made my first appointment for a routine cleaning. The day before my appointment I get a phone call from a very rude and inept office worker saying I am not found in their system for my specific insurance. My insurance card was uploaded weeks prior, I proceeded to inform the receptionist to call my insurance as I was assured the dentist was a in-network provider. Not only did she tell me that wasn’t her job but she rudely asked for the insurance phone number which she already had but hung up and never called me back. This is an unacceptable experience, it’s unprofessional and deterred me from being seen at this practice. The office manager needs to retrain his/her staff on the importance of customer service. I would not recommend anyone to this practice for this reason alone.

Negative experience: My experience with the actual dentist here was fine, but I wanted to write a review about their billing practices to warn others from coming here. TLDR: They completely MAXED OUT my dental insurance plan, charging my insurance $900 for my first time patient cleaning. They justified this by saying "well, your insurance didn't actually even end up paying the full amount (they paid >$700) but we didn't bill you for the rest so.. you're welcome," completely ignoring the fact that they're charging so much for a standard procedure that I'm not even able to get my second yearly clean without paying an additional $205 out of pocket. I would definitely avoid going here just to avoid their over-inflated and, borderline fraudulent billing practices.

In 34 years, I’ve never once had a dental cleaning where I wasn’t writhing in pain and dreading the next one to come 6 months later. I truly mean it when I say Kristal is the best hygienist I’ve encountered in my life. Not an ounce of pain and my teeth and gums were squeaky queen when I left. She was so detailed, gentle and attentive. I already insisted on having her for my next cleaning. I cannot say enough good things about Kristal and this practice.

Negative experience: Stay away! My experience was so terrible, I get angry every time I think about it. It’s been two weeks. Came in for a routine cleaning. Some lady in a rush spent just about 10 minutes cleaning my teeth, then spent the next 20 minutes sandbagging me that my teeth have spots and discolorations and, “I haven’t looked at my teeth before”. Mind you, I have Invisaligns, any person with any common sense would know I have probably looked at my teeth! “You had these since you were a child, you had too much fluoride”. I have never seen these after cleaning my entire life! Maybe if she cleaned my teeth properly, the front would not be whiter than the back! But wait, there is more! She doesn’t know how to use the panoramic x-ray machine. So she calls someone else to assist. While my head is in between the x-ray, the guy wants her to use it for the first time on my head! I had to go get a new cleaning. These guys are awful and you should avoid them if you appreciate any normal decent treatment!!

Fantastic experience: What an amazing staff! From the front desk to the assistant. Dr Halary made me feel so comfortable and explained everything thoroughly as she was doing it. It was the best visit to a dental office I ever had. I highly recommend.

Negative experience: Similar to several other reviews, I was led to believe that they are in-network and that my fillings would be covered by insurance, but that was not the case. Two doctors are listed on ZocDoc as being in-network but neither of them are. I waited several months to having my fillings done explicitly so that they would be covered by my insurance and discussed this with the staff. They knew what insurance I had. Only after my fillings were done was I informed that not a single Dentist in their office is in-network for my insurance. How convenient for a location that makes you pay before submitting to insurance!

Fantastic experience: I just went for my first visit at this location on 9/1 and the dental hygienist Rob (I believe that's his name, I hope I'm correct because he was amazing) gave me the best care and information to go forward with to keep taking care of my teeth which I truly appreciated. I felt confident and informed after. Dr. Halary also was kind and reasonable about some of the small everyday habits we have and how to make small changes for the health of your teeth and gums. The billing structure they have is a new one for me (may be specific to your insurance type) but I appreciate that they were transparent about it once I was closed out my visit. May work for some people and not others but it was straight forward. I liked the office feel and that everything was pretty much on schedule. Hope it stays that way for the next visit. I will definitely return until otherwise. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: Clean waiting room and offices. Very friendly and patient staff that will answer all your questions. You can watch whatever you like on Netflix while they clean your teeth. Love coming here for my cleaning twice a year.

Negative experience: WORST PLACE. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!We have a 2pm appointment today, and they’re supposed to be open the whole day, but when we showed up the whole place was empty. Nobody was picking up the phone either. So they charge the clients a no-show fee if you don’t show up for your appointment. What do we get when the staff don’t show up and just hassle us — having to drag 3 kids to be there on time. UPDATE: No, we did not schedule online. My husband scheduled it for us in person after his visit a few weeks ago. You could have called him to let us know. I don’t even know why you were closed when it was a usual business day for your office.

Fantastic experience: I've been going there for 10 years and honestly, they're the best in New York. I live in Manhattan now and still travel back to see them. I've had crowns, root canals, fillings, and cleanings. They even made a night guard for me. Don't judge me, I have soft enamel. They're constantly innovating and bringing state-of-the-art tech to the dental industry. They're just great. I'm not going to post photos you weirdos.

Fantastic experience: iSmile is great, they are located in Williamsburg and you can go to the river after your appointment. The office is clean and they have spaced out the waiting room to accommodate social distancing. There are plastic barriers between the patient and reception staff. Once you go into the rooms, they ask for you to wash your hands and take off your mask, the dental hygienist listen to your request and wash their hands frequently. All in all, a great experience!

Negative experience: This is an awful dental practice and I would not recommend that anyone goes there. I scheduled a cleaning here and was met with the worst bedside manners from all the staff aside from the reception. Each hygienist/ dentist was extremely rude, and they cleaned my teeth for a total of about 15 minutes or less. I've never received, in my life, a cleaning that was less than 45 minutes. I do not feel they did an adequate job. After all that, they charged my insurance $540, which is absurd. Standard cleanings are $250. My insurance, of course, is not paying the whole thing and I'm left to foot the bill. This practice is a scam. Please save yourself the time and money by choosing another dentist.

Negative experience: Have to say I love the service provided and can't complain about that, but without warning they dropped my insurance as in network after going to them for years and I had to pay for my last appointment out of pocket. I even double checked with the nurse at the front desk and she assured that my insurance was in network, but yesterday just got a bill for an appt back in July. Disappointed I can't come here anymore, I have Delta dental insurance, so I wouldn't come here if you have the same.

Fantastic experience: This was an absolutely amazing experience. I'm 40 years old. Either all my like, people have been doing teeth cleaning wrong, or they are just amazing. No pain or discomfort at all. The X-Ray machine is way over the top, it sings to you and plays classical music. Very funny. Great friendly staff. Dr. Rimma is fantastic-- actually cares, takes work home and gives you a practical plan, not just "oh brush your teeth and come back in 6 months." Great experience really--- I even got lucky with parking 1 block away! There is never parking in Williamsburg, Brooklyn NY-- so the Gods of Oral Hygiene must have blessed me today! Plus, who is that handsome bald guy?? What a stud and such straight teeth!! Love it. Would go back. You should to!!! I'm dead serious. Fantastic experience: These guys were great. I had broken a tooth on Friday night and they were able to work me in on a Saturday to fix it. Everyone was friendly and efficient, cost were well-explained, and the tooth now has a temporary in place until I can get a permanent crown installed.

Fantastic experience: The whole staff at iSmile Dental are friendly and caring! They are knowledgeable about dental procedures and answer all questions. The office is very clean, which is important to me. The only thing that needs improvement are the dental chairs, they don’t have much support for the neck. My husband and I both hope they change their chairs or add more neck support to what they have there. I would like to add that Dr. Hallory (sp) is very knowledgeable and is very caring and friendly! Overall it’s a good experience at iSmile Dental.

Negative experience: I have been coming to iSmile since 2015. I had really great experiences until my two visits this year. I came in for a routine cleaning and had to wait over 30 mins to be seen. I get it sometimes that happens but I had to ask the front desk multiple times for updates. The next week I came back for two small fillings. So small that I didn't need any numbing injections. I again had to wait 30 mins to be seen, and I was given no updates on how much longer the wait time would be. I was under the impression that 70% of the service would be covered by my insurance. A few months later, I received a bill for around $600. I called my insurance and they shared that the dentist I saw no longer accepts my insurance. Only 20% of the service was covered by my insurance and I'm out almost $600. I would be very cautious about coming to iSmile as they are not transparent about the how much a service will cost.

Fantastic experience: I had to schedule an emergency appointment due to intense pain in my tooth that started overnight. They were able to see me the next morning and get me scheduled for a follow up. Staff here were all very kind and attentive. Thanks to all the front desk, Patricia and Dr. H!

Negative experience: After seeing such great reviews, I decided to book an appointment online for Friday at 5pm. My husband goes to the Park Slope location and loves it there. I make arrangements to leave early from work to make it to my appointment only to find that I was not in their system and it was only an appointment request that went unnoticed by staff as I was never scheduled nor did I receive a phone call from the office...the appointment was not officially booked! And to add to matters, the front desk person informs me that patients are not seen Fridays at 5pm yet everywhere online it states their office hours are until 6pm. And the online appointment offering was for 5pm! I do not know if they just want to leave early on Fridays? If that's the case, do not do it at the expense and inconvenience to your patients... Very upsetting and unprofessional on their part.

Going to the dentist is not something I usually look for to but the way they treated me from beginning to end was great! Very easy to make my appointment, did not wait long to be seen, the receptionists were all very helpful and informative. My Dental Hygienist gave me the best cleaning I ever had in all the years of going to the Dentist. The actual dentist (Rimma Portman) who was highly recommended to me, did not disappoint. She was very direct on what I needed to get done to keep my teeth healthy and strong for years to come and I really appreciated that. She definitely did not beat around the bush. Once I was told what I needed to get done the most pleasant, informative young lady named Karla broke down my coverage step by step in detail which I really appreciated very much, especially since everything was covered on my plan. I highly recommend iSmile to everyone that is in search of a new Dentist, they will not disappoint. I even made a future appointment for my daughter who hates going to the Dentist. Fantastic experience: In my opinion, the rating of a dentist is something that has a lot to do with the quality of the dentist´s work, and the level of trust you have in (and with) that dentist. Both of those attributes are outstanding a this dentist office and specifically in regards to Dr. Portman (who serves me as my dentist). I wouldn´t go anywhere else, even though I trust there are other good dentists out there (somewhere) - I found my place.

Fantastic experience: To echo what many reviewers have said, iSmile is an excellent dental experience. Karina (Carina?) was kind and understanding when I expressed nervousness about visiting and was so supportive and assuring. Staff and Dr were helpful and communicative, would recommend to all.

Fantastic experience: I’m a fairly new patient to the office and can say without a doubt this is the best dental experience I’ve ever had. From the hygienists, dental assistants and front desk, to Dr. Halary who did my exam and procedures, the entire staff at the Williamsburg office was a joy, and the minor work I had done was painless and dare I say somewhat enjoyable.

Fantastic experience: This was the best experience at a dentist that I have ever had. The dentist and her entire team we so delightful and knowledgeable. She fixed the problem with my tooth and I left feeling like a million bucks. I don’t know about the rest of you, but most of the time when I go to the dentist I find myself trying to convince them to do something or being told I need to come back to have things taken care of. Most of the time dentist do the bare minimum. This was the total opposite. She knew exactly what needed to be done and her expertise showed. I left feeling better about my teeth than I have in years.

Negative experience: I have been to the dentist more than the average person (sweet tooth as a kid) and what iSmile taught me was excellent customer service is everything! The staff was amazing! They keep you in this trance that the dentist's office is not a scary place. After my first visit, it was clear I needed to get some work done that my previous dentist never indicated HOW much until I got here, and I get my bi-annual cleanings often. I should have been alarmed then. I went in complaining about one side, and they decided to start the work on the other. This side NEVER gave me pain. I mean never, but dentist orders, right? Every single patient I’ve heard while there seemed to be suggested a root canal that was not covered by insurance (which it is?) Again, Alarm two? At that point, after my last visit, I start getting insane pain on the side that was not an issue prior. Imagine now both sides being in pain? Not a fun time. I went for a second opinion when three months, the pain never subsided for the other side in which they insisted needed an RC. The dentist checked? No RC was required, and just refilled the tooth, resolving the pain. A year later, I’m still getting pain in the same site they did the filling in at iSmile. I avoid eating on this side altogether. How did we get here? I’ve emailed them and expressed my concerns. I came in - she numbed the tooth and said the nerve is still raw. Then, I’ve emailed them again within the time told, indicating I was still in pain. I offered a callback. No callback. Nothing. But they did send out reminders that I need my cleaning bi-annual cleaning. Safe to say, my second opinion dentist might have to either refill or give me the RC in the tooth that iSmile never indicated was the damage, to begin with.

Fantastic experience: Let's be honest, those childhood visits to the dentist scarred us for life. And as an adult, we only hope that we can find a reliable and friendly dentist who will explain everything to you in simple and direct terms. Thankfully, you will find that at iSmile Dental. From the moment you are greeted to the moment you leave the dentist's chair, you feel well taken care of and with cleaner, healthier teeth!

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to iSmile for several years, even after I moved into Queens. They have always been so well organized and friendly. I get emails and text message reminders that keep me on schedule. It’s really an impressive system that I wish more places would use. Karina has been my hygienist a couple of times and she is just lovely. She is extremely friendly and takes some time each visit to build some rapport before we jump into the scraping and power tools part of the process. Makes things much more bearable. I’ve worked with a couple of dentists over the years and my experience has always been positive. I’ve unfortunately needed two root canals and some fillings. One time a filling broke while I was flossing, but other than that each procedure has gone well and I didn’t need to address again. They’re also very thorough and informative. I would certainly recommend this practice.

Negative experience: Beware. I have been going to this dentist since 2017. This week I received a suprise bill for a procedure for the remainder of an amount that my insurance would not cover. The practice never informed me that this procedure was being done by an out of network dentist. When it is an out of network dentist, they are not able to see the full scope of what my insurance will pay before going into a procedure, only a percentage. Had this dentist been in network, they would have been able to see the full scope, like max amount the insurance will pay out for specific procedures. Again, I was never informed I was seeing an out of network provider. They give you an estimated cost "in good faith". And the estimated cost is based off the practice's costs, not what your insurance covers. How is this acting in "good faith" when charging me a copayment based off an estimated cost, knowing full well they would know the true cost had this been an in network dentist? I am curious to see if I'll suddenly receive more surpise bills going back since 2017, for the costs I agreed to cover in the case my insurance wouldn't cover. Again, beware.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr Portman’s for many years and I love the Ismile practice In Williamsburg. The staff is friendly, the appointments are always on time and they never push the cosmetic procedures.

Fantastic experience: I'v been going to iSmile Dental for like 5 years now and I am very happy and satisfied with the experience. I've done numbers of fillings done, mouth guard, crown, couple root canals etc etc and it's been always been a great experience. I'm cavity prone and have been to many dentists over the years but this place is hands down the best so far. I really like that the doctors here take time to communicate about the condition and procedure with you in a direct, to the point way, and they don't perform any unnecessary procedures as I've experienced w other dentists in the past- You can really tell they care about the teeth. Dr. Portman and Dr. Sohal have been wonderful, professional and consistent over the years, and the office staffs are friendly and caring. Also had the best thorough cleaning I've ever had from the hygienist today- I really recommend this place!

Fantastic experience: Was referred by a friend so I went in for a cleaning and basic x-rays. I hadn’t been to the dentist for over 6 years so I was expecting the worst. Turned out to be one of the better dentist experiences I’ve ever had. The women were so chill and fast I left wondering if I had been to the dentist at all. The cleaning was fast and painless. And the 6 cavities I had were easily spotted and were simply made an appointment to take care of them. Easy. I think I finally found my official Brooklyn dentist.
