Negative experience: Very poor experience with Dr. Helmick. Underwent a crown implant with NO ANESTHETIC. Was told that I’m being a “baby” after I told them I’m feeling discomfort. It felt like torture.

Positive experience: Great service and staff 100%, made my nervous son feel comfortable. I only wish we could get his dental work there rather than going to a specialist. Update 10/23/25 I went for my cleaning today and care is great still. Dropped to 4 stars. The only criticism is that it is hard to get appts, they are very busy so if you schedule want to schedule your 6 mo follow up on the day of your cleaning, you won't get it. I'm told that people schedule their 2 a year in advance and some people have dental plans that allow 4 cleanings a year so that skews things. My 6 mo follow up is in 8 mos with a different dentist, so I have to make a note to call in 4 months to see if there are any cancellations as advised by front desk staff (so I can stay on track). This wasn't such a problem last year. Maybe at some point, slow down taking new patient appts if your patients can't get follow ups? I will try calling the other locations. It's also hard if a kiddo gets sick and you have to reschedule an appt. We went to another location for my son for this reason and we'll prob keep going there for him. Pulling a kiddo out of school for a midday appt is not a good option, but at least they have Saturdays.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic experience...again! This last visit was an emergency visit and I was incredibly impressed with the entire staff, from the admin to the assistants to the dentists. Great operation!

Fantastic experience: Went in for an emergency self-pay filling. Very up front about costs and transparent about options. Plus it was the most comfortable filling I've ever had, due to both the equipment they used and the practitioner's attentiveness and care. Very thorough and friendly, I was given tips for preventative care at home as well as maintenance tips related to my habits (rinsing my mouth out after sparkling water - I didn't know it was acidic!) By and far the best dentist experience I've had, they've gotten themselves a dedicated client!!

Fantastic experience: I was visiting Austin from Colorado when a porcelain crown failed. I called Forest Family on Anderson after seeing their reviews. They arranged to see me quickly, and Dr. Helmick gave me her recommendations. I called my lifelong dentist and asked his opinion, and he said I was getting good advice. Dr. Helmick was able to do the work and seat a temporary tooth that same morning, and I went back in a week to get the permanent crown. She explained everything well and addressed my questions and concerns. The crown is working out great, and I feel blessed to have found a good dentist.

Fantastic experience: Forest Family Dentistry on Anderson Ln. is outstanding. Dr Meckel was the best dentist I’ve ever had in my 67 years of going to the dentist. He is patient, very knowledgeable and very caring of my needs. He gave me options I didn’t know about, he asked frequently if I was ok or if I needed a break and he spent a lot of time offering dental information regarding my dental issues and answering any questions I may have had. I did not feel like he was in a rush to see the next patient. Jade, my dental hygienist, was also exceptional. She was caring about my needs, explaining what she was about to do and why before doing anything. She also asked frequently if I needed a break or if I was okay. She adapted taking X-rays due to my strong gag reflex and it really helped. Thank you so much for a comforting and knowledgeable appointment.

Fantastic experience: If you’re looking for a dentist you’ll actually love going to, we can’t recommend the Forest Family Dentistry team enough! ✨ These offices (I’ve been seen at the Anderson, Burnet, Research, and Round Rock over the last ten years—for normal cleanings, as well as Invisalign, TMJ treatment, an oral device for improved sleep, as well as the infrequent dental-emergency) have all the latest technology, the staff are incredibly friendly, and they do a fantastic job every time. Responsible, professional, and truly patient-focused — I wish everyone loved their dentist as much as we do! Even our five year old is a fan.

Fantastic experience: Everyone is always so kind. We love coming here. We used to live in Austin, but we recently moved to Kyle and we still drive all the way to Austin for our appointments.

Negative experience: My first visit went OK . Cleaning x-rays scan and DDS exam. I had confirmed my insurance does not cover two x-rays a year and scheduled only a cleaning for my second visit. Second visit, as soon as they had me in the chair they began high pressure to do more x-rays. I declined. The front desk, person hygienist, and the doctor all came by to put social and situational pressure in me to accept the x-rays. I still declined and all of the staff became rude and visibly upset. My significant other had a very similar experience. I am not going back.

Fantastic experience: I love this place and Dr. Helmick. Dr. Mahmud is amazing too, but I feel like Dr. Helmick is my dentist. She was the first one who I saw, and I feel very comfortable with her…. She answers my emails quickly and a wonderful plan is in place, to address my issues. I have an autoimmune disease Sjogrens that has destroyed my teeth, along with just normal issues everyone deals with. Dr. Helmick put 3 crowns on my teeth 2 years ago and I’ve had no issues with it. So now I need to have 4 teeth pulled, a crown, a filling and a partial denture. It’s going to take some time but hopefully when it’s all done, this will be the last major dental work I need done for a while. Besides cleanings, I pray I don’t need anything else. I’m 61 years old and don’t know how long I will live. But I want to be able to smile and eat and take tons of pictures while I’m still here. I cannot recommend this place more than I already have. Fantastic experience: I received such great treatment today at this clinic getting a crown placed by Dr. Ayshah Mahmud and her hygienist, who were both incredibly kind and warm, and who went the extra mile of talking to me through the procedure, which was not an easy one and took a lot of time and effort. They played Fleetwood Mac during the procedure, by request! I would highly recommend this dentistry. Dr. Mahmud has been great during my visits and I think she cares tremendously about her patients. The other employees at this clinic are also very welcoming. This clinic has a lot of cool imaging technology that my previous dentist did not have, which I think could lead to better patient outcomes.

Fantastic experience: I've been going to the OG Forest Family location for years and have had nothing but good things to say. But I just got done with a cleaning where the staff truly went above and beyond. I couldn't figure out childcare for my newborn during my appointment and called ahead to make sure it would be ok if I brought her. Everyone in the office was so accommodating and understanding, even when she started to fuss. Going to the dentist isn't exactly a fun time but the team at Forest Family has made the experience so much less painful all around.

Fantastic experience: I’ll be very honest here, and preface this by just mentioning that I don’t make a habit of writing reviews for much of any reason at all really, and it’s just to say that when asked to speak about my recent experience, it was (genuinely) remarkable and worth writing about. That said, I had an early morning appointment at the Anderson lane location of forest family dentistry today, which was my first experience with the business ever, and full disclosure- I did walk into the appointment with a fair amount of reservations about how things might go. So, I set this appointment online a number of weeks ago, and only landed at this practice as a result of picking them from a list of in network providers generated by my insurance company. That’s not to say, however, that I did any amount of research or what you might call due diligence prior to making my decision, because i definitely did not at the time. My decision to book an appointment with forest, was almost entirely a function of (well, besides being in network) the proximity of the office to where I live, and aside from that, only a very cursory glance at the website, which seemed competent enough and professional, so that was good enough for me. Some weeks pass and yesterday the reminder of the appointment that I set for myself goes off and it’s a good thing, since I hadn’t thought of it since. It’s at this point that I do a quick search to remind myself where the office is located, and in short order, find myself in a yelp review black hole- it happens to the best of us. While most reviews are glaring, it’s immediately concerning to me that some relatively recent ones, in something of a pattern, are anything but. For purposes of this review, I am gonna to leave it at that, but I could not easily shake the concern or trepidation I felt having only just then, in the 11th hour, bothered to read how people felt about their visits. Suffice it to say, any trepidation or concern I felt walking into my appointment this morning was very rapidly alleviated. My experience today in the office as a new patient (with no shortage of issues to be addressed) was nothing but positive and everyone i interacted with today was just lovely. As a dude that has never made a habit of regular dental visits, and possessing the oral health of someone who never has, I was so glad to have chosen forest. I felt like my concerns were actually listened to and addressed, my questions were sufficiently and thoroughly answered, anything I was unclear on was explained to me in a manner in which i could understand. I felt like I had options and say in the direction and manner of my treatment going forward, and that is all much more than I can say of so many other appointments and offices I have found myself at. In fact, I was so impressed by the care I received, I felt compelled to share my experience here, which again, not something I often do since, you know, I could be doing literally anything else right now. So, thank you for that, forest family dentistry. I’m looking forward to working with you all and getting my teeth all fixed up. I won’t be stressing it so much anymore, and that’s a great feeling.

Negative experience: I used to looove this place but it's gone downhill. They've started charging for things they never used to charge for. Their billing office continued to charge me incorrectly and took forever to get it sorted out. The front desk is a mess. It truly feels like the dentist who started this gave up. Just isn't the same. Looks super run down.

Fantastic experience: Where to start? Late last week on a Thursday night I accidentally chipped one of my upper front two teeth. It wasn't a large chip but it was noticeable to me and I wanted it fixed. The only problem was that if I didn't get it done the next day on Friday, I would've had to wait until the following week to get it looked at. I woke up on Friday and I Googled "Top-rated NW Austin Dentists". Among many, Forest Family Dentistry popped up with their glowing 4.9 rating. With so many dental practices closing at noon on Friday I was happy to see that they were open until 5:30 PM. I gave them a call and I was pleasantly greeted by Misty. I explained my situation and she was caring and compassionate. She put me on a brief hold and got back to me promptly. She asked if I could come in at 3 PM and I was ecstatic! I arrived at 3 PM and I was again greeted by Misty at the front desk. She could not have been nicer. After checking in I was introduced to Idalis who escorted me back to the examination room. Like Misty, Idalis was so kind and compassionate. She examined the chip and assured me that they would have no problems repairing it. Shortly after that the dentist and proprietor, Dr. Robin Bethell, walked in and greeted me with a handshake and a smile. I was not surprised because great customer service and bedside manner starts at the top! I had experienced it with each of his staff members before meeting him. Dr. Bethell repaired my tooth, matched the shade, and I was in and out their office in about an hour. You would have never known I had chipped a tooth. The last thing I wanted to do was break a tooth, but the silver lining was discovering Forest Family Dental and Dr. Bethell, and then getting to take a trip down Memory Lane walking around the 51-year-old Village Shopping Center where their office is located. Thank you again, Dr. Bethel, Idalis and Misty - you're the best!

Fantastic experience: I had a very positive experience. I called in the morning, because I had developed a tooth ache which was becoming worse and this clinic worked me into their schedule in the middle of the afternoon, even though it was a Friday, a day when a lot of folks leave work early. I was impressed. At the clinic, I found everyone to be friendly, personable and competent. I was in very good hands.

Fantastic experience: Had the best experience brining in my 6yr old. Joel and Dr.Hegwood made him feel so comfortable for the entirety of his visit. He was laughing and fully engaged. They answered all of his big 6yr old questions and explained every detail of what they were doing. The dentist office can be a scary place for a kid but Forest Family and it’s professionals are really working to change that stigma. Mission accomplished for us!

Fantastic experience: Sharing my experience to hopefully be helpful to anyone that may have similarly dental anxieties as me. I booked an appointment after searching for a dentist I can trust with Forest Family, the 1st appointment they did x rays and examined my teeth & assessed my teeth in which I discovered I have not too happy gums (paradontis). They gave me a treatment plan where I could review the estimates of each appointment and then scheduled me in. The first appointment I had my blood pressure was thru the roof (165/90) in which I admittedly walked out of out of anxiety/fear and no one had made me feel bad for it or guilty. There was a cancellation in which I rescheduled to take the time slot 2 days later to give it another shot and still had the anxieties but throughout the process the dental assistant, hygienist, doctor, and even a different dental assistant in the room next door was extremely supportive and had cheered me on encouraging me and answering any questions As someone who struggles greatly with anxiety leading to panic attacks, this has been my best dental experience and I’d highly recommend for others that have any fear/anxiety to trust in ffd. Thanks for helping me better my life, without this experience I could’ve been in the same situation where I completely avoid dental care out of anxiety!

From the top with Dr. Hegwood who always remembers me and is personal with me all the way to Calais checking me out and making sure I get all the credits back from my insurance, forest family doesn’t feel like a sterile business. It’s real people and they are genuine with you. True human interactions- none of this 5 minutes late and your appointment is cancelled. Only dentist’s office I’ll ever go to here in Austin!

Fantastic experience: I am updating my review from almost a year ago from 2 stars to 5 stars. Dr Meckel put a crown on my upper molar last July 2023 and I was having issues. Dr Bethell was kind enough to work with me,and was extremely patient with my pain and situation. I have never been to a dentist or doctor for that matter who is as technically knowledgeable and translates that into fabulous patient care. I am totally pain free since I trusted Dr Bethell and his advice. He’s an amazing dentist!

Fantastic experience: Wow. I have never felt more at ease at the dentist. Left the office with all my questions answered and a complete plan for all the next steps and a full cost breakdown. Highly recommend for patients who have been delaying dental care because of past dental experiences. This place feels very welcoming.

Negative experience: So i went in person and rescheduled my appointment same day. They told me it was a missed appointment. I recently had an emergency where i was in the hospital and my appointment was missed again. So i received a bill from the dentist office for $50 dollars. Mind you i have dr. Notes. For the day i missed. So i called the office and spoke manager Michael. He was very unprofessional, did not want or have the need to want to help me. Said that his staff is paid for and ready to go so unless i cancel within 24 hours it’s their policy to bill you with a missed appointment fee. It’s sad I’ve been at this clinic for 3 years. But they seem to care more about money than the patient. I recommend this place to no one.

Fantastic experience: I typically see Dr. Helmick and she is wonderful. This is the longest I've gone in my adult life without having a cavity (bad genes, lol). I think part of that is the Carifree gel that they recommend, but more so her detailed monitoring! This month, Dr. Helmick was out the day of my appointment, so I saw Dr. Hegwood and her assistant Idalis. Idalis did a great job taking my ex-rays. Dr. Hegwood did my exam and my cleaning and I was pleased with my visit. The staff is always so excellent. Check in and check out is a breeze and my whole visit was covered by my insurance.

Fantastic experience: Dr Bethell is extremely welcoming, makes you feel right at home. As an adult getting your teeth fixed is a bit intimidating. Been with forest family from start to finish. I would fly from Manhattan to Austin, just to keep working with his team. Grateful to be back in austin to maintain my teeth regularly. If you live in the area, you wont find anyone better.

At a recent appointment, Dr. Bethell and his dental assistants Layla and Lauren demonstrated the excellence of their professions when they went the extra mile to address an issue I had with a 40+ year old crown. It was discovered to be loose during a consultation and cleaning appointment and Dr. Bethell was kind enough to work on the crown at an additional appointment later the same day. Fantastic experience: I do not love going to the dentist. The sound of scraping triggers me and my jaw hurts after just two seconds. But Norma was very gentle and quick! Probably my least painful trip to the dentist ever.

Fantastic experience: The staff are all very kind, courteous, and professional. I’ve gotten cleanings here for multiple years now and they’ve put in a crown for me which I’ve had no problems with. Best of all, they allow me to fill out all the forms online before I show up. I just walk in the door, tell them my name, and sit down and wait to be called. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Fantastic experience: Today I had my new patient appointment for dental cleaning. The front office staff was friendly and the office was nice and tidy. The dental hygienist pulled me back within 5 min of arriving and was very kind and patient while taking my X-rays and polishing my teeth. I was able to watch tv while getting my teeth clean and it helped ease my anxiety. The doctor came in and was professional and kind while doing my exam. I highly recommend anyone to Forest Family Dentistry- it’s definitely top on the charts for dental health in the Austin area.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Bethel takes his time, and is very thorough. He treats me like I’m not just a patient but a friend. I have an unusual bump on my tongue and he got me right in and referred me to an oral surgeon even though he doesn’t think it’s anything bad. He remembered my medical history included several skin cancers and wanted to be extra cautious. That kind of caring is hard to find even in the medical profession nowadays,

Fantastic experience: I love this office. Everyone is very friendly. I had my cleaning with Norma and it was the best cleaning I’ve ever had. Dr Helmick was awesome and complimented me on not having any cavities. I also got to talk with Dr Bethell the owner and he showed me my wisdom teeth on the X-rays and explained why my jaw sometimes feels tight.
