Fantastic experience: I am very pleased with the staff and the service. My hygienist has been tracking a potential tooth issue and noticed important changes at my last cleaning. Dr. Josh looked at my tooth and decided action was needed. I was scheduled in less than a week. Dr. Josh and his staff fixed my tooth. All of the staff were very polite, specifically Dr. Josh was very kind and polite. His interactions with me and his staff were commendable. Dr. Josh himself actually phoned me in the evening to see how I was doing.

Fantastic experience: We are so fortunate to have found this amazing office! My 5 year old had a dental emergency and they got us in the next day. At the appointment they discovered other issues that our previous dentist decided to ignore. The staff was super friendly, patient and gentle. My son is actually looking forward to going back to the dentist! Leslie is a brilliant rockstar!

Negative experience: I wish I read all the reviews more carefully before ever booking an appointment. Very disappointing by almost everyone except a few of the hygienists. I spent over 1.5 hours there on the first appointment alone because they kept trying to sell me out of pockets products that I didn’t want while I was “waiting”. Either the dentist was over an hour behind which they should have told me or she purposely waited until the staff could go through their speeches about the 1k+ cosmetic services that I “really needed”. I was also deceived by the “clear” cost estimation sheet detailing how much my cavities would cost to fix. The first appointment was accurate, but then after that, my next appointment was suddenly no longer covered by my insurance and they slapped me with a $600 bill for a crown that might not have been appropriate to place. When I asked if I could pay it over a couple of months, the front desk staff was very nasty to me before finally saying yes. At this point, I was never going to come back here but one of my fillings (placed by sala) came out before I was able to establish with a new dentist so I figured maybe they would at least take pride in fixing their work. They were able to get me in quickly but otherwise no, the dentist kept insisting during the entire appointment that it was my fault and I must have forgotten that I ate popcorn… and then charged me another couple hundred dollars to fix it. I truly understand that working with insurance can be difficult but I think they don’t particularly care about making sure things are covered by insurance and just want you to come in and buy their expensive cosmetic packages. It really started concerning me too when they tried to sell me Botox services.. If you are looking for cosmetic (dental only) services, this place might be okay. But if you are needing general dental work, go somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: Words cannot express the level of kindness and caring the entire staff at Sala shows its clients. I had come to Sala after having an extremely traumatic and painful experience at another dentist office. Dr. Joel and Shawna took their time with me and made sure I felt safe and comfortable the entire appointment. They listened, answered all of my questions, didn’t try to force me into anything or give me the run around. They were honest, kind, funny and very respectful. I cried happy tears knowing I would never have to go through a terrible dental experience again. Jason was phenomenal and even past closing time spent time talking to me and truly showing he cared about me as a person and not just someone with a credit card. The receptionists are all very kind and thoughtful. I was referred by a friend and also a family member and I’m so glad to call Sala my new dentist and I highly encourage everyone to give them a try. Especially if you have dental trauma or any fears of the dentist.

Fantastic experience: What a great group of professionals. Genuinely friendly, efficient, everything and everyone was first rate and professional. I also received a follow-up call from the dentist that same day to see how my crown was. That was the first time EVER a dentist has contacted me after a visit. I'm so glad I chose Sala Family Dentistry. Today I had my first teeth cleaning with Salas dentistry. I'm thoroughly impressed. No waiting...my appointment started exactly on time. Everyone is friendly and courteous and is a great conversationalist. Another enjoyable visit. I highly recommend Sala to everyone. Every visit is conducted in the most friendly and professional manner from walking in and speaking to the receptionist to going into the back to get work done. I've never experienced a dental office with such consistently high standards of performance.

Negative experience: This place is a scam that uses morality as a weapon in their defense of recommending excessive procedures be done. They don't feel morally right doing dental procedures that were commonplace 20 years ago. They do this because their fancy technology helps them find all sorts of revenue generating problems in your mouth so they can bill your insurance for more money, which in turn can lead to a higher out of pocket cost. I was quoted 900+ just for a cleaning. They no longer do "basic" cleanings because they don't feel "morally right" doing that when they see it as incomplete work. I understand I might need to have some of the suggested work done, but I came in for a basic cleaning covered by my insurance and they refused to do it because they only want to do the advanced cleaning they can charge me more for. Then the doctor had the audacity to lie and say he knows nothing about insurance or what people pay. That's his business to know. I walked out and won't be paying them a dime. I do not recommend this place unless you're ready to open your wallet and dump out its contents onto their counter.

Fantastic experience: Just had my new patient exam done and I absolutely loved my experience!! Sala Family Dentistry is truly unlike any other dental office I’ve been to. They cater the entire experience to you as the patient. Van was so comforting as my hygienist, and Dr. Christina was warm and welcoming and gave me helpful advice after her exam! Fantastic experience: Dr. Todd Sala and his assistant Heather gave me the best experience one can have when getting a cavity filled. I’m one of those weird people who don’t like pain meds and anesthesias, so they did it without the mumbo jumbo — totally natural. They stopped in between drilling and filling to check on me and make sure I felt comfortable, and also took time to get to know me as a person as well. There wasn’t hardly any pain during and now, after, I can be on with my day without feeling funky. When I think of a family dentistry, this is exactly what I would hope for. Our whole family has been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Thanks team!

You never feel as if you are being asked to do necessary work. Negative experience: This poor review is mainly for the billing/front desk. The dentist and hygienist were fine and personable. I feel misled by this office. I asked to be assigned to a dentist that took my dental insurance and was instead assigned to someone outside my network. Was hit with a surprisingly high bill of 250 dollars for merely an exam and x-rays. While I understand that my responsibility was to confirm provider was in network, it is not always straightforward on insurance websites . I was told that half of customers at this office are "out of network." I don't believe people seek out out of network providers and this phenomenon is probably due to the office not being very ethical or forthcoming. Other dental offices have told me up front who is in my network and they are purposeful in assigning me accordingly, so I know it can be done! Also this office is overpriced and charges at least double than what I have been charged for similar services and act like pushy salesmen when it comes to treatments. Won't be returning and hopefully the next customer will do their due diligence to call their dental insurance pre-treatment as this office does not care at all to make it easier for their patients.

Fantastic experience: The place is awesome. Professional, streamlined and organized. They have the latest and greatest technology. Office staff is courteous. From greeting me at the door(Karen) to calling me after to see how I was doing(Dr. Jason Sala) this place blew me away. Kassie and Dr Jason Sala were on point and honestly the best dentist I’ve had in my entire life. Glad I switched to Sala Dentistry. I can’t say enough about this place. Even at checkout the office manager(Jason) was the most professional office manager I’ve ever witnessed. Just amazing!!!

Fantastic experience: Erin and Dr. Jen took great care of me at my recent hygiene appt. Erin is very gentle and thorough and we enjoy catching up during my appointments. I love all of the hygienists who have taken care of me over the years: Kandice, Cassie, and Destinee!

Fantastic experience: Reasons we love this office and will keep returning and recommending them to family and friends: They treat my kids like complete and capable humans. They ask them questions and really listen to their responses, maintaining eye contact and asking follow-up questions. They explain everything in detail, to me and to the kids, so we all feel comfortable. They even encourage the kids to sit close by while their sibling is getting work done so they can observe and learn. I get the sense they genuinely care about our best interest rather than just making money, because of how they deliberate about courses of treatment, and because when I check with our family members in the dentistry field, they always agree with the courses these dentists have recommended. When both of my kids ended up needing some baby teeth pulled, both procedures were done with the utmost care. Dr Ryan, one of the sweetest human beings on the planet, checked in with the kids very frequently, easily every couple minutes, to make sure they were properly numbed. He would even double check that they were being honest, saying he would be sad to find out later that they had actually felt pain, and that he would never want that. He also really took his time and was incredibly gentle. In fact, my youngest told me later that day that it actually "felt good" when the dentist pulled the teeth out, like a sense of relief. Leading up to this procedure, the hygienist asked if they felt scared or had any concerns. She genuinely listened to their responses, compassionately addressing each one, and asking if they had more concerns. The cleanliness of the office is stellar as well. We had missed our 6 month checkups due to the virus, but when my oldest got a toothache and we couldn't avoid the dentist any longer, I was so pleased to find out about the air purification system they had added to their already advanced cleaning procedures. Combined with closing their waiting room and doing temperature checks and screenings upon arrival, we feel really comfortable and safe in this office, even during the pandemic. Finally, knowing they donate so much money in dental services to the community really makes me happy, and is just one more reason I always look forward to seeing them. Editing to add: today was our last day here since we're moving, and we are very grateful for the years we had here and sorry to be leaving. Lino has been a phenomenally personable and professional hygienist, so kind, friendly, gentle, and thorough. Destiny was also wonderful the few times I had her, as was the incomparably amazing Dr. Ryan and every hygienist on the pediatric side. Deana and the rest of the desk staff have been fantastic as well. After 6 years of nothing but stellar experiences, they truly feel like family. Wishing them continued success so they can keep providing these wonderful services to the Reno community. Love to you all! ♥

Fantastic experience: I'm a cancer PT who must have Zometa IV's as part of my treatment & this office truly understands the side affects of this drug that can damage my bones. The 1st DDS office I sent too wanted to do bone graphs and all kinds of invasive procedures which could have been really bad for me. This is a very nice office. The staff was wonderful. .

Fantastic experience: The dental hygienist, Kandice Hannah, went above and beyond! She listened and addressed my concerns, was extremely knowledgeable and professional, and my teeth look the cleanest they ever have! I always have a good experience when I go here.

Negative experience: I’m disappointed with the lack of communication and follow through throughout my treatment. I called multiple times before my appointment requesting the simulation because I had concerns about how my teeth were progressing. Jason claimed he would email it to me saying it would come from another company and I never received it. I called again and didn’t get a response and he became unreachable. During the appointment I was told we need to be “realistic” about the results. That’s unacceptable. The simulation I was shown at the beginning doesn’t match what I’m seeing now, and suddenly the narrative has changed? Feels like I was misled. On top of that, I mentioned to the dental assistant that I still had glue on my teeth she said she’d get the doctor, but never even followed through. I’m hoping refinement actually delivers results, because if not this whole experience will have been a complete waste of time and money. Definitely would not recommend based on how poorly my concerns were handled.

Fantastic experience: Friendly excellent care today. Staff are excellent. Might want to reconsider your apt confirmation system. I will not click on email asking me to click a link. I will however return email with a Y or Yes. Same with messages. Can’t be careful enough these days.

Negative experience: Terrible, I had my first visit with them, and I was told the coloration on my gums was due to the fact that I had darker skin even though I told him I never had them like that, but it was due to the fact that at the moment I was really sick. They didn’t listen, and I was told it was because I had dark darker skin.

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough good things about Sala family dentistry! They are so good with children, my 2 year old felt comfortable and had a fun time. They allowed her to hold the tools and get familiar with them. At the end gave her a cute little backpack with lots of fun activities in it. Fantastic experience: What an awesome experience I had with the staff, being an Army Veteran from 71-76 and 71 years old and although not a 100% disabled I'm not able to get dental care from VA, on a fixed income and very limited dental insurance, out of pocket expenses would leave me homeless, I saw a TV commercial for Smiles4Freedom one day, I sent them an email that evening and immediately got back a response with an appointment time, day and place. Appointment was today 4 days after the initial contact via email. Smiles4Freedom will do what ever it takes to get the job done!! Fantastic experience: I was very nervous and scared to go see a dentist. My teeth are very bad. But Sala made me feel very welcome. I was never judged. I wasn't grilled about why my teeth are so bad. They understood every person has their own story and their own struggles. Their main goal, was to make me comfortable and to come up with a solution to make me be able to actually smile again!

Positive experience: My hygienist was excellent. I give her 4 stars! However, I wasn't happy with the interaction I had with Jason (office person) when I checked out. I would give him one star. I was asking him why I would have a co-pay for my routine cleaning, xrays and exam when I had never had one in the 22 years that I have been a patient of Sala. My dental insurance has not changed in 12 years. Jason told me I had not had x-rays or an exam since 9/2022. This is not true. He said I've always had a copay for routine cleaning, exam and xrays with UMR. Word of advice, Jason could have stopped arguing with me and said "let me look into this further and get back to you." I was very upset when I left the office. Not good customer service!!

Positive experience: I reached out to Sala Family Dentistry to explore Invisalign options, as they’re a Diamond+ Invisalign Provider. Scheduling a virtual consultation was easy, and their team was friendly and informative. I was confirmed to be a good candidate, and during that call, I also inquired about establishing care for my family. We scheduled our first in-office visit for my Invisalign consultation and cleanings after discussing the Gold Membership (for adults) and Pediatric Membership (for kids). I want to highlight how wonderful the experience was for our two young boys (2 and 3 years old)—the staff made them feel comfortable and excited about dental care, which we truly appreciated. However, the hygiene appointments for my husband and me were disappointing. We expected routine cleanings, but instead left with a $604 bill and no cleanings performed, along with a $17,047 treatment plan. Unfortunately, this wasn’t clearly communicated ahead of time, and the lack of transparency was frustrating. I was scheduled to begin Invisalign on 03/24/2025. The morning of our hygiene appointments, I was informed that my Invisalign trays had been delivered and was offered the chance to consolidate visits. I had hoped to get a cleaning first and requested to postpone treatment, but was advised it wasn’t necessary. Ultimately, the cleaning never occurred. Due to the unexpected treatment costs, my husband and I decided to return to our previous dentist for general care. That experience was much more cost-transparent and better aligned with our expectations. That said, I decided to continue my Invisalign treatment at Sala, and it’s been a positive experience so far. Dr. Jason has been thorough, communicative, and genuinely committed to making sure my needs are met. Final thoughts: Sala Family Dentistry offers excellent pediatric care and Invisalign services, and the staff is welcoming and professional. However, if you're new to the practice, I recommend asking in advance about what to expect during your first visit, especially when it comes to potential costs before any cleanings or treatment are done. Some improvements in billing transparency and communication would go a long way for adult patients.

Fantastic experience: Everytime I go to Sala Family Dentistry, they treat me with the upmost respect and make me feel comfortable with their work. They always explain what they do in a way I can understand it and never hit me with a random bill. You're always informed upfront about any additional costs or treatments. I travel 4 hours one way just so they can work on my teeth. I wouldn't trust anyone else to put the time and care into their work like they do. Highly recommend, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

She keeps me motivated as she puts such professional care into x-rays, cleaning, flossing & flouriding. She calls a dentist to check over things like potential cavities and a possible Invisalign refreshment. She’s just a joy to be with; plus she always checks to make sure I have the proper toothpaste. I don’t go home without it. It’s paid off. No cavities for over 10 years!!!! It helps to follow her at-home cleaning instructions! She can’t do the work without cooperation from her patients. It is very satisfying to have a clean bill of health. I highly recommend Destinee.

Positive experience: My hygienist is great, detailed, skilled, very nice. It’s why I haven’t moved YET. But I’ve reached a tipping point and I will soon have to move to be able to afford dental care on a teacher salary. I’m not a fan of the large dentist office model-kinda like a factory. It’s “slick”, impersonal even though they try to be personal with a card on your first visit but the reality is they are really cheap and don’t have complimentary toothbrushes for you. Their marketing is “community service washing” and there are expensive signs hung of all their community work but really treated my marine veteran husband so poorly that he switched offices. Prices are very high out of pocket too compared to other dentists. $167 for a cleaning where normal is closer to $127. Bitewings double price compared to another local five star dentist. The discount plan doesn’t help a whole lot either when you do the math. You’ll also owe more out of pocket with insurance than other places. There are great dentists in town, so why would I pay so much?

Positive experience: I am editing my review because of the conversation I had with Jessica in management over our bill. We will be coming back to their office. I run a small practice and understand the confusion that can happen when checking patients in. I have been assured they will be making changes to improve the check in collection process for self pay patients.

Fantastic experience: I went in for my first appointment today after not having been to the dentist in a few years. Everyone made the experience very welcoming and seamless. I tend to get a bit of dental anxiety due to not being to one for awhile, and by the end of the appointment I left feeling relieved and very informed on the state of my teeth! I look forward to getting follow ups with them next month.

Fantastic experience: I will admit, due to childhood experiences, I am fearful of dentists. Yet the compassionate and gentle care offered by the Sala team ensures I schedule ongoing care. Negative experience: I made my first visit to Sala today. I was scheduled for a teeth cleaning and was a first-time patient. I had recently had x-rays, and my teeth are cavity free. The hygienist was very friendly, but very early in our visit, she started questioning me about x-rays. She was really pushing the x-rays, and I clearly indicated that I did not want, nor need x-rays as I had just had them done. She proceeded to bring in the Dr. who immediately started high-pressure sales tactics on me to get x-rays. She said she couldn't even clean my teeth without x-rays and became very pushy. It felt like a timeshare closing room with high-pressure sales methods and proceeded to make me feel very uncomfortable. I finalized with her my decision in not wanting any x-rays, so she said they couldn't clean my teeth. I left without my welcome card, gift bag, and bottle of water. The hygienist reminded me not to forget my gift bag. I told her I felt guilty and didn't want them. It was the most unpleasant experience I have ever had at a dentist in my nearly 60 years of existence. Clearly, they have all been trained to push products and services, regardless of the patient preference or circumstances. X-rays needed to clean teeth? Give me a break. We are in search of a dentist who doesn't feel the need to rudely apply sales tactics for unnecessary services. They said they would not charge me for the visit. We will see.
