I think all the people are kind from the beginning when you walk in to the end with the doctor coming in to check everything. They remember us and ask what vacations we have planned or if my son was sick; how was he feeling. Just overall exceptional. Fantastic experience: I have been dealing with a number of serious medical issues lately, and couldn’t ask for more from my hygienist or dentist. I have always been very happy with the special care I have received at The Gentle Dentist, but they have been over the top helping me through this difficult time. They are the best!! .

Negative experience: I was a first time patient who brought two things to the The Gentle Dentist:  a full set of teeth & my insurance information.  They proved themselves completely incapable of, or worse indifferent to, understanding the latter.  I was quoted for services both before and after my first appointment and had a 2nd scheduled.  In between those appointments I was contacted to be informed that I owned more than what was quoted.  I was curious about how this happened for preventive benefits covered at 100% and had been quoted as such twice at that point.  Initially I was concerned The Gentle Dentist performed services outside the scope of what was requested, which to their credit was not the case.  The billing discrepancy was the result of their staff scheduling me as a new patient with a provider in a highest possible tier covered by my insurance rather than with a provider at the base tier in line with what was quoted.  This resulted in significant out-of-pocket costs costs for me for the exact same services that would have been rendered by at least 3 other dentists on their staff.  When I inquired about why I was quoted for services provided by a base tier provider, and then assigned a high tier provider that would increase my cost without alerting me to that, I was told by Kristen Coulman that it’s a feature and not a bug of their operations.  Patients seeking care are expecting to come in and walk their desk staff through the benefits verification process, and inform them who is in/out-of-network, and their staff is only going to take the quickest surface level glance as insurance information to generate a quote.  I asked if the dentists operated in the same way, are they taking the most surface level look at my teeth and advising me based on that, or are they doing their due diligence and providing a thorough examination?  She said the dentists would never, but her front desk/billing staff absolutely would.  Kristin said they have no obligation, and worse no intention, on advising patients on the best plan of action related to the insurance information presented to them and they’re doing all that work to quote but could not care less if it’s accurate.  Allegedly:  thoughtful, in-depth evaluations and suggestions are made in back of house by the providers, but the business overall does not focus on that philosophy and is more interested in maintaining volume and quickly turning over patients in chairs than anything else.  I’m disturbed by their callousness, when you call in they’re trained to ask “how can we make you smile today?” but not to accurately read insurance information.  It’s a façade and very phony, and I’m not comfortable seeking care from providers willing to risk their reputation by providing services within an operation that is admittedly too busy to care about any individual patient’s needs. My experience as a new patient was ruined due to multiple instances of them giving me false information, and when I challenged it they lied and told me it was my fault for not anticipating their shortcomings and coaching them around it ("you were told you had a choice!" when I absolutely wasn't) and I was never offered and apology for their oversight or the inconvenience. For what it's worth, this provider loves to brag about their out-of-network business, as to trick people with insurance benefits into being more comfortable with over-paying because at least you have some coverage, but I'm sure their out-of-network block of business is happy when The Gentle Dentist doesn't get the chance to screw up their insurance billing as they would otherwise. The business also waited until only a few days before my 2nd appointment to alert me to the outstanding balance and their error, then made a big deal about how generous they were to "waive" the missed appointment fee when I would have cancelled WEEKS earlier had they been diligent and alerted me in a timely manner! So twisted. It occurs to me they may be intentionally farming missed appointment fees by waiting until the last minute to spring bad news on their patients.

Fantastic experience: Dr Nash and staff were excellent! Great patient experience. All my questions were thoroughly answered and I left with a great understanding of the current status of my oral health.

Every single staff member is so sweet. We have been going for 4 years and have not had a bad experience. I recently had to get some dental work that I requested to be put under a twilight for and had let myself get extremely anxious during. She was so comforting and got me totally calm before she began the procedure. She has also seen my 3 year old son for the last 2 years (after he had broken a tooth at daycare) and is just so ✨gentle✨ and kind with him.

Fantastic experience: I've been seeing Dr. Dexter for several years now and just absolutely adore her. I have a profound history of dental trauma and anxiety, beginning in childhood and lasting well into adulthood. She does all of my cleanings and always remembers things from my life to talk with me about. She is so gentle and is constantly checking in with me to make sure I'm okay and that nothing hurts. I don't fear going to the dentist because I know that my dentist is kind, understanding, and patient. I have had to have some cavities and dental work here and she gave me pill sedation and gas that allowed me to fully relax for the appointment. She also made sure to numb me appropriately (which has been a consistent issue for me in the past). She also always has lots of good availability for my schedule and I don't have to miss work or classes to get my cleanings. I've only had one negative experience with the office in general and it was with one of the assistants that was rooming me and preparing me for my cleaning and visit w/ Dr. Dexter. I shared with the front desk at the end of my appointment that I did not want her rooming me in the future and they agreeably added a note to my chart so that we would not cross paths again in the future.

Negative experience: The Gentle Dentist doesn’t believe women when they’re uncomfortable. I needed to get a specialist in for my wisdom tooth removal. The specialist’s name is Dr. Jensen. I felt uneasy and unsafe during my visit due to the behavior of Dr. Jensen. During the appointment, Dr. Jensen made me feel uncomfortable by: Placing a dental instrument directly in my lap without explanation - for him to then pick it back up close to my lap Addressing me as "honey" despite my lack of familiarity with him Instructing me to sit closer to him in the consultation room without a clear medical or valid reason There are more inappropriate behaviors Dr. Jensen did that I do not wish to elaborate on. When I reached out to the owner Jane about my experience, I wasn’t believed and I was dismissed. Instead of focusing on making it right, Jane was focused on defending an old white man and excused his behavior as maybe seeming unprofessional and too close to empathetic. It wasn’t a matter of maybe seeming, he was unprofessional and made me deeply uncomfortable. Jane defending Dr. Jensen for behaviors that she didn’t even investigate and wasn’t there to witness only perpetuates his behavior. I am deeply disappointed by the Gentle Dentist and saddened with how they handled this situation.

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient for a few years but this morning I had two firsts, in Dr. Dexter and my hygienist, Lisa Baker. Dr. Dexter was brief but professional. She gave thorough information about our teeth (my son is also a patient) and possible next steps if necessary. Lisa was a gem! She put the gentle in The Gentle Dentist. She frequently asked if I was ok and comfortable, made sure that I knew that I could request a break or lesser pressure if needed, and she wanted to ensure that I was satisfied with my cleaning and completely understood the doctor's commentary. Kudos to Lisa for a job well done!

They're also amazing with my little kids, who both went there for their very first dental visits when they were each about 4, now they're older and still enjoy it (for kids they have cartoons and lots of little toys in the goodie bag, plus balloons on the way out).

Negative experience: ***BEWARE** I am a former patient of the Gentle Dentist in Columbus Ohio. On 9/6/24 I was informed by Dr. Nash that I would need my front tooth extracted and he immediately rushed out of the room without answering any of my questions. A few weeks later I was scheduled to get an impression done with Dr.Nash at the Gentle Dentist for a “flipper” device, which is a small partial denture with two adjacent hooks to get me through until I receive a dental implant. I asked Dr. Nash several times during that appointment to clarify that I will indeed be receiving a flipper as that is what will function best for me as a person in customer service, and he assured me we were on the same page and that my partial denture would be delivered to my oral surgeon in Blacklick, OH. They were supposed to call me when it was shipped- I never received a phone call. When I reached out to them to check on the status of my partial, the staff at Gentle Dentist told me “yes it’s been shipped, we didn’t call you because we didn’t think it mattered” - mind you, I spent $900 on this device they decided didn’t matter. On 1/2/24, my tooth was extracted at my oral surgeon’s office, and as I was coming out of the laughing gas, my surgeon was inserting a denture device into my mouth that I had never seen or approved - it was a bulky essix retainer that I had never cleared with my dentist at the Gentle Dentist - I had never even heard of it as I was told multiple times I would be getting a flipper. Naturally, this was emotionally and financially devastating to me in many ways. I reached out to the Gentle Dentist to ask how this could happen, how I could pay for one thing and be given something I never cleared with my doctor, and I was met with a screaming receptionist who would not at any point me me speak. When I finally made her aware that this is neglectful behavior and malpractice, she begrudgingly told me the doctor would create the flipper I had paid for originally the next day. No explanation why something was put into my mouth that I never seen or approved of. When I arrived the next day, Dr. Nash took more impressions and I came back later that afternoon to get the flipper fitted. This flipper was clearly made with neglect, it does not look like my teeth, it is too small for my mouth and it looks devastatingly awful. He conveniently never handed me a mirror until he had one foot out of the office. Before I could complain, I was handed a letter at the front desk stating they have terminated me as a patient, without any reason given. I could not believe that I could be abandoned due to their neglect - I’m only left thinking I should have never mentioned their $900 mistake. The emotional and physical distress I am suffering from this ordeal and abandonment by who I thought were trusted medical professionals has caused much turmoil in my life - I cannot even return to work because the retainer and flipper was so shoddily made that I cannot speak without drooling, I can’t help to feel it was on purpose from retaliation. Stay far away!!

Fantastic experience: My daughter recommended Gentle Dentist when I retired and moved to Columbus. They are the greatest! Everyone is kind and friendly and they really take good care of their patients! I highly recommend Gentle Dentist as they are very gentle and they really take their time with their patients and known the best treatments for them.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of The Gentle Dentist for over 5 yrs. This is how I became a patient. While out of town I experienced tooth pain, so I called and asked could I been seen when arrive back home even though I haven’t had my first appointment yet. The receptionist was very kind and understanding while scheduling my appointment. When I arrived to check in for my appointment, the front desk staff welcomed me with warm, smiles. Most people are very apprehnsive in going to the dentist for many different reasons. This dentist office is excellent in customer serviceans patient care. Dr. Andy Nash took great care of me as well as and Deb the dental hygienist. The best experience was my dentist (Dr. Nash) checked on me three days later to see how I was doing. This sealed the deal for me being a patient at The Gentle Dentist. I have never had a dentist do this before. I can say the excellent customer service has not changed at all. The team (registration, Dental Hygienist and Dentist) is warm and welcoming during each visit. I am proud to say I am a patient of The Gentle Dentist.

Fantastic experience: Dr Nash was so patient and explained everything he was going to do before we even started. Then would let me know the whole process of the crown process. I have had them by 2 other Dentists but never felt this comfortable. I recommend Dr Nash completely.

Fantastic experience: I am one of the most anxious people when it comes to the dentist and the team did an amazing job! Rachel T and Dr Dexter worked together so well to make sure that i felt relaxed and well taken care of the entire time! Not nearly as anxious to go to the dentist knowing i'm in such great hands anymore!
