Fantastic experience: I admit, I have had a fear of dental work in the past. However, once I walked in the SHIRER office I felt a calmness. It is a lovely, serene, clean place. The staff welcomed me with friendly smiles and soon I was in the chair. Tiffany, Dr Shirer’s assistant, assured me I was in good hands. I can honestly say I felt no fear and no pain! Dr Shirer sent me home with a new attitude about dentistry. For once, I do not dread going to the dentist!

She took very good care of me and I really appreciate the they were well detailed she care about. Fantastic experience: This is the best dental care my husband and I have ever received!! I was dreading going and haven’t been to a dentist in way too long but I felt so comfortable here! The facility is very nice and clean. The front desk ladies were friendly and super quick. I cannot speak highly enough of Ariel!! She was the hygienist for both me and my husband and we just loved her! She talked to us like we had been friends for years and made us feel so welcome while providing such excellent care. Dr. Michael was also very friendly and genuine in his care. We’re so happy we found this place and we highly recommend!!

Fantastic experience: I'll be honest with this, I've been to multiple places trying to get my teeth fixed but they always gave me the run around of where to go, or I'd have to cancel certain appointments just because someone wasn't in. Multiple places were disappointing when came to staffor the atmosphere. Aspen dental was one place had good atmosphere great people who worked there but when it came to appointments they were either caneled or I'd have to go somewhere different to get cavities or root canals done, at Shirer Family Dentistry I'll say their staff was so much better, they didn't give me the run around on stuff concerning my teeth.

Fantastic experience: I just met the dentist yesterday his wife checked my tooth out first her husband came in to follow up. This morning they extracted the tooth. I have never been so happy to say I met a dentist. They are completely incredible I felt no pain whatsoever. The facility is beautiful the staff is wonderful You could not ask for a better group of people if you are looking for a dentist. I look forward to them being my dentist and taking care of any needs that I have! Their professionalism and personality are unmatched to any other place I've been! Fantastic experience: This is by far the best dental experience I've had. They were able to fit me in (as a new patient) on late notice, and they explained every step of the process before we even got started.

Negative experience: Their office is immaculate and beautiful. They also don't have you waiting long after check-in to be called back, which is very nice. For those two reason, I've given them two stars. Some background: I like to get my teeth cleaned more frequently than the standard twice a year. The office I normally go to doesn't do teeth whitening and so that's why when I got insurance, I decided to become a patient SFD because they offer that. So my first issue is that during my first appointment here, I mentioned to the hygienist that it's likely that in-between this and my next appointment, I'd probably go to the other dentist office for an additional cleaning. Didn't think anything else of it. Towards the end of my appointment, the dentist came in and said that she'd prefer if I would only go to one dentist because if the other office hurt me, they don't want to get blamed and vice versa. I expressed multiple times that I totally understood that. My issue is that she was more worried about me going to two offices than she was about my teeth. She was basically strong-arming me and drilling daggers into me with her eyes until I agreed that I wouldn't go to both offices for cleanings. She said if I wanted to, SFD would do additional cleanings, but it's like $30 more out-of-pocket than the other office. So no, I wasn't going to do that. So finally, I just conceded and said I wouldn't go to the other office because clearly she was not going to be satisfied until I verbally said I wouldn't go to both offices. She said that I really don't need a cleaning more than twice a year anyway, so I listened to "the doctor's orders" and didn't do any additional cleanings at either office (against my better judgement). My next cleaning rolls around, and of course, my teeth are worse because I didn't have an additional cleaning done like I normally would. -_- During this 2nd appointment, the hygienist asked if I wanted the panoramic x-ray or whatever it's called. So immediately I ask, "Does my insurance cover it?" She looks at her computer, I guess, real quick and said, "yes." So I said if it's covered then sure! So the fancy x-ray was done, my appointment is completed, and I leave. A month or so later, I get a bill in the mail. Now, I'm ticked off. So I call their office and ask the woman that answered, why was I sent a bill? She said that the x-ray costs $xyz and that insurance covered like 70% of it. So I asked her, "Well, if it's only *partially* covered then why did the hygienist tell me 'Yes'???" And she goes on to explain that they can see if xyz is on a patient's insurance, but they don't know the exact dollar amount (or percentage, I guess) that insurance will cover. They can only give an estimate from their data of how much was covered for other patients with the same insurance. So I asked her why the hygienist told me it was covered if it actually wasn't. She proceeds to say, "Well, insurance covered it, they just didn't cover it all." Girl, don't play semantics with me like I'm stupid. Obviously if someone asks, "Does my insurance cover this?" they're not asking if it's only partially covered! So if your staff knows that you don't know how much an insurance will cover, then the appropriate thing she should have responded was, "It looks like your insurance will cover it, but please double-check if it's 100% covered or if there will be anything out-of-pocket for you. I'll put a note in your chart and we can revisit it at your next appointment after you've had a chance to look it up." I would have been PERFECTLY fine with that and would have declined the x-ray and took my tail home. TLDR; If you ask if your insurance will cover something, they will tell you yes even though they actually don't know for sure how much will be covered and then send you a bill later on.

Fantastic experience: I recently relocated here from Rochester NY and was a little stressed about finding a new dentist. For those of you who are reading this and have recently relocated here, I highly recommend this practice without reservation. Save yourself some time and schedule a New Patient exam before shopping around. Excellent experience; beautiful location and extremely nice and knowledgeable staff.

Fantastic experience: WOW! What a bright modern beautiful office. Also it seemed to be very clean as I observed the lobby and ceiling tiles . Which is rare these days in health care where a lot of places lack cleanliness and are all about profiting. The attention to detail at this office is superb it was def giving BOUJEE vibes, LOVEEE IT ! The staff and dentist were all professional , understanding and friendly. We didn’t feel rushed at all and felt like our concerns were really heard and understood. Everything was very thorough and explained well during our visit. My husband was a nervous wreck since he was traumatized from his previous dentist appointment when he was younger. I was able to go in with him and that really helped us both felt more at ease.

Fantastic experience: This was my first time visiting Shirer Family Dentistry. I made the change from the dentist I had been going to for over 30 years to Shirer. I went in thinking I had a cavity since the last dentist had told me I had one only for Dr. Shirer to tell me everything was fine. She also did not push me to get crowns like the last dentist has been. The facility was nice and clean and I liked the hygienist that cleaned my teeth, she was very nice. I will give them another try in 6 months.

Fantastic experience: My hubby and I went together for our first visit. We both enjoyed all of the staff that worked with us from the front desk to the dental technicians to the doctors. Our dentals were great, both techs were friendly, efficient and were very gentle while doing our cleanings. The office was was amazing, it helped make you feel comfortable while there. Negative experience: I’ll be finding a new dentist. I was a happy patient but the woman dentist in the practice developed a nasty attitude. Her statements became snippy and her attitude became short. I wasted time and money and found out they have a reputation amongst other practices. She should re-evaluate her attitude or take some time off if she is that pressed. What a shame because I recommended them to so many people. I have spent thousands of dollars here.

Negative experience: This place is a joke!! I hadn’t been to dentist since moving here and let my teeth go. It wasn’t easy going but I made myself. They pretty much got rid of me and tried recommending to some Augusta college for students. She said I’ve waited this long waiting shouldn’t be an issue. Also had me leave without prescribing an antibiotic when I had a huge abscess from a cracked tooth. Basically judging me is how I felt. Would not recommend this dentist to anyone!!!!

Fantastic experience: We've called 7 different cities "home" over the past 15 years. I'm not a fan of going to the dentist so in each new city we'd seek out the best dentists. Shirer Family Dentistry rises to the top of even this list! Everyone at Shirer was professional, gracious, happy, supportive and capable - from the scheduler who responded to my online inquiry within hours, to the receptionist, to the hygienist, to the doctor. But I have to give a special call-out to Tesha, the best hygienist I've ever had! Tesha was efficient, professional, and gentle, while explaining every step of what she was doing. She made having an oral exam and cleaning a "pleasure", and that is not a word I would typically use for anything to do with a dentist office visit! Great job Shirer team!

Fantastic experience: This is the first time we've provided a review for a dentistry. We're relatively new to the region, and initially got hooked up with what I'll call a chain store dentistry. Nothing horrible, but it was months out to get appointments, and the staff were a bit lacking in professionalism. We happened upon Shirer Family Dentistry by first seeing it along the road, then finding that it had a comprehensive web site, and informative social media presence, and finally through the many outstanding reviews. My wife and I just completed our initial exams and cleanings and started the first in a series of treatments. Our experiences with Dr. Michael and Dr. Susannah, the hygienists, and the office staff have been stellar in all respects of skill, professionalism, courtesy, and friendliness. The facility is modern, clean, comfortable, and business is conducted like clockwork. They also worked with our insurance, let us know what to expect, and were clear about costs up front and at completion of the work. This is a top notch operation all around.

Fantastic experience: I experienced a great amount of care here by a particular hygienist named Tisha. She was absolutely incredible and took the time to answer all of my questions, all while giving me support and hope for the work that needs to be done in the future. I cannot thank her enough for being so very kind and gentle when I needed it the most. A large majority of dentists I have seen are so quick to judge me and put me down based on the shape of my teeth. Little do they know my story and the things I have been through to get here. If you feel like all hope is lost come here and ask for Tisha especially, because she is someone who can truly relate to you and provide a gentle touch.

Positive experience: The office is nice, new and clean. The hygienist was ok and efficient. The reason for 3 stars is because I called prior to making the appointment to ask if they were providers for my insurance, to which they said yes. After our appointment I had to pay $301 because they said our insurance only covers 38%. Even out of network benefits for the services rendered are covered at 80%. I was in complete shock because had they been truthful about being providers when I called, I wouldn’t have had to pay one penny. Which was what I was expecting!! This is a poor way to do business, I am super unhappy about it and won’t be taking any dental office at their word again!! Very disappointed to say the least

Fantastic experience: Great service, wonderful staff and very inviting atmosphere. Since I am retired without dental insurance, I hope in the future they may consider accepting dental savings plans. Especially since dental insurance is not worth it unless you need major work and meet the one year waiting period.

The office was clean and beautifully decorated. The hygienists were friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The dentists were kind and friendly as well. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our first exam and cleaning appointments - not many people can say that about going to the dentist! We highly recommend Shirer Family Dentistry to our family and friends!!

Fantastic experience: The inside of the office is very peaceful. Everyone I came into contact with was very cordial, efficient and helpful. I’ve never been in an office that organized. My dental hygienist was the best I’ve ever had. I look forward to seeing her again. Mrs Shirer was very pleasant and helpful to me.

Fantastic experience: This establishment is well ran, workers are kind and informative. I didn’t feel lost when they explained what was going on with my mouth. Teesha helped explain another method of cleaning my permanent retainer rather than flossing. She is very knowledgeable and seems to genuinely have her patients best interest at heart. She seen the lady dentist and she made her feel very at ease. My first appointment is in a few weeks. Fantastic experience: Ariel is an amazing dental hygienist!!! She caught something with one of my teeth that could’ve become a major problem. I recommend to everyone getting your teeth cleaned every three months. It’s kind of like an oil change for your car. It’s preventative and will save you a lot of money in the long run!! The office is also super clean and well run… kudos!

Their office is beautiful and comfortable and everyone on staff was professional and friendly.
