Negative experience: Amy and Dr Nguyen are fantastic! About 2 years ago I left RDC when they insisted that I get yearly routine dental X-rays , even though there are no studies that justify this practice . The ADA recommends routine dental X-rays every 2-3 years in asymptomatic patients . No one at RDC would talk to me or even see me unless I consented to their demand, so I left their practice and went to the Family Dental clinic on State Street in Rockford , where I have been very pleased.

Negative experience: Extremely disappointing first visit. The office was dirty and disorganized. I had to wait a very long time, and despite having an appointment, I never actually got to see the dentist, they were "too busy." Most of the work was done by staff who weren’t the hygienist or dentist, including taking three separate sets of images during a single visit. They ran out of equipment mid visit and had to restock while I was sitting there. Cleaning spray was used on equipment but not wiped down right away, just left dripping onto the floor. After more than an hour of waiting, a staff member turned on "Sister, Sister" to distract me while I continued to wait for the dentist. There was no cleaning performed, no follow up appointment scheduled, and no real explanation for the delays. Honestly, the entire place felt unprofessional, unsanitary, and poorly run. I had to leave without ever seeing the actual dentist. Also worth noting: many of the positive reviews here seem suspicious, overly generic or excessively glowing in a way that doesn’t match the actual experience. Would not recommend this practice at all.

Negative experience: I’ve had many appointments here, and more often than not, they call the day before or even the day of to ask if I can come in earlier. When I can’t, they double book the slot that I had for months, leaving me in the waiting room much longer than otherwise. This seems especially common on the specialty side (orthodontics, implants, surgeries). Prioritizing patient experience over squeezing in extra appointments would go a long way. I’ll be looking elsewhere for future dental care.

Fantastic experience: I have terminal cancer and I'm on hospice care. They fitted me in when they didn't have an open appt. They checked me out and had me come back after closing to do the work on me. Very happy?

Fantastic experience: I’ve had the same technician for the past 4 visits - she is most pleasant, very thorough, and GENTLE on the gums! The dentist was professional and asked questions/listened. All reasons why my wife and I continue to utilize Rockford Dental Care for our needs.

Negative experience: Do not go here for braces or their specialty dentistry! Anytime I need to make an appointment follow up for my son, I can NEVER get through to someone. I call several times, I leave voicemails, and No-one ever calls me back. I decided to go to Cheng for my daughter’s braces instead of here and you get way better customer service there.

Positive experience: Hygienist Lucy was very gentle but thorough. No complaints. Dr Wen(?) must have been really busy because I had to wait quite a while for her to look in my mouth after the cleaning which took less than a minute.

Negative experience: Orthodontist yes, dentistry no-from reception to doctor. If I were the orthodontist, I’d remove myself from Rockford Dental Care. Currently searching for a new dentist. Front desk is NOT helpful and rude. Our daughter got braces here several years ago and today our son just got his on. They are friendly, thorough, kind, and efficient. I know our son will have a pleasant experience and beautiful smile!

Positive experience: I had an appointment to have my teeth cleaned, which went well. However after waiting 15 minutes I was told , Dr. Gomez didn’t have time for me to do an exam. No other dentist was brought in. They said they would call me if the dentist saw any problems on the X-rays. I gave you 3 stars because the hygienist did her job and none for the dentist who provided poor service. I’m sure there was time to apply the dentist exam charge to the bill.
Negative experience: I have been a long time patient for 30+ years and was always pleased with the services and providers until the last few years. The customer service is non-existent except for a few caring people that are no longer there! My phone calls were never returned until a bill was over 90 days past due and in jeopardy of going to collection for an unnecessary procedure. Both my kids needed some medicinal agent applied to prevent cavities but the pricing was different for each and also not covered. My son needed his wisdom teeth removed and the estimate was over $5K with a potential out-of-pocket of $800. We immediately went to another provider where the estimate was $1800 and $0 out-of-pocket for the exact same procedure! We have excellent insurance and have never has so many non-covered procedures where pricing is overinflated. Sadly, Rockford Dental Care no longer cares about their patients and only cares about the money. I will be taking my business and my teeth elsewhere.

Negative experience: Awful experience. The place is very dated and dirty. I wasn’t called back for my appointment until 20 minutes after it was scheduled to begin. The dental assistant was visibly sick and should not have been near patients. The x-ray equipment did not work and they had a huge piece of hard plastic in my mouth for over 5 minutes while I was gagging. They still didn’t get the photos. I couldn’t bring myself to stay for the rest of the appointment. I’d give 0 stars if I could. Don’t go here.

Negative experience: This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a dental office. I went in today for an exam and was talked to like I was a child and guilted for not flossing every day. I was then told that filling my cavities, my cleaning, and getting my mouth guests for grinding my teeth were all separate appointments. Never had that before but whatever. The appointment felt rushed and there was no attempt to get to know me or ask about my dental history. I come in later that day for my cleaning. It was the most painful cleaning I’ve ever experienced. I felt the dental lady stabbing and slicing my gums and could taste the insane amount of blood then lectured me about how I’m bleeding so much because I don’t floss enough. I was clenching my hands together so hard they were red and there was in indent from my ring and was squirming in the chair from how much it hurt. The cleaning also felt very rushed and not careful. I am not returning for my other appointments and will never return to this office. I sobbed the whole way home from feeling awful and belittled and from the throbbing pain in my mouth. I saw Dr. Lilo for my exam and I can’t remember the lady who cleaned my teeth but I think it started with a T. Edit: it has been over 5 hours since I left and I still am in immense pain. I can’t eat anything that I have to chew and it hurts to even close my mouth. I have never experienced anything like this before.
Negative experience: My dentist did not care about my dental fears, she said many times that it was not a big deal. I suffer from PTSD, it was a big deal to me. Also would not offer nitrous oxide to help me with my fears. I ended up with a credit on my account, and their billing department said it would take 5 to 7 weeks to send a check. That is completely unacceptable. Absolutely will never return, and neither will the rest of my family.
Fantastic experience: Staffing does a great job with taking care of your needs with paperwork and teeth! I recommend all to this facility when dental work is needed!

Negative experience: I scheduled an appointment a week ahead, called the same day in advance to confirm only to be told After waiting an hour that my appointment was dropped... then asked if i would like to reschedule.

We have had three members of our family go through their orthodontics program and one oral surgery for wisdom teeth removal, that was extensive. No issues at all, everything was smooth sailing. Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing from start to finish..staff was so friendly and knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Reception was amazingly kind and empathetic to me and my situation with an infected impacted wisdom tooth. They gave me great resources and scheduled me with Dr. Appiah for surgery as soon as they could. Dr. Appiah's surgical assistant (Margarita I think was her name?) was especially kind and helpful. Dr. Appiah was very thorough in making sure there would be no complications during my oral surgery. He knew I have asthma and an autoimmune disorder so he asked for surgery clearance from my Rheumatologist first and also had me take 2 puffs of an inhaler right before the surgery began. I really appreciate that. He was kind and gentle in demeanor which reduced my pre-surgery anxiety. He listened to my concerns about TMJ pain and acted accordingly. He worked efficiently, with the surgery only taking about 45 minutes. The most impressive part of my experience was how much less pain I was in after him removing 3 impacted wisdom teeth, compared to a different oral surgeon who took out only 1 of my wisdom teeth in the past. He was quicker, more precise, and left me in much less pain. Barely any TMJ pain either. I am so incredibly impressed by that! I just had to find a way to write him a good review to show my gratitude! I highly recommend Dr. Appiah to anyone in need of oral surgery and Rockford Dental Care in general for your dentistry needs.
Negative experience: I went to this office because it was recommended by my insurance and had positive Google reviews. I used to go here when I was a kid, so I thought that would be fun too :) The office did a great job of communicating with me before the visit - I filled out forms with all of my health information, Social Security Number, etc… When I went to the office, my in-person experience was not great. The office is dated and rundown. There were holes and tape on the walls, scratches from the equipment - the office does not look well attended to. When it came time to finish my appointment I waited an hour while the front desk tried to find my insurance information (I could hear them mentioning my name from the waiting room). Eventually I was asked to come to the front and write down my Social Security Number on a post it note. I shared how this was a bit uncomfortable for me as I had already given this information electronically and if the office didn’t have that, who did? I wasn’t reassured at all and realized this is a place that’s not a good fit for me or my family. I need to be able to trust that confidential and sensitive information is being handled properly. The entire experience took over 2 hours and was a colossal waste of time.
Fantastic experience: I was so nervous getting an extraction but I did not feel a thing. I never even realized they already extracted it. Great job.
Negative experience: I made an appointment to switch dentists & get a semiannual cleaning. I was also asked several times why I made an appointment, to which I answered, “…to get my teeth cleaned.” After many X-ray photos & some poking at the gumline, recording the depth of the probe, I was told that I had to come back another time, because they didn’t schedule a hygienist for a cleaning. Your scheduling process sucks.

Fantastic experience: My experience was great at Rockford Dental Care! The staff and the dentists was fantastic and they explained everything perfectly, and made me feel very comfortable.
Negative experience: This place has gone downhill with new owners. They supposedly did a "deeper" cleaning without telling me. During the cleaning they sprayed this Io-rinse on my teeth. Again not getting my permission or explaining charges. When I left they told me I owed NOTHING and that my Medicare advantage plan must be great. It has always paid the full bill so I had no reason to believe this time would be different. Months later I get a letter from a collection agency saying I owe $270. I went to Rockford Dental and argued my case and was assured they would take care of it. Months later another letter from a collection agency. I went back to Rockford Dental and again was told they would take care of it. Now I've gotten a 3rd letter from the collection agency. I went in again and they told me there's nothing they can do because it's with the collection agency. I talked with the management and they said the same thing. So apparently they can do whatever they want to you and NOT tell you and then charge extra for UNAPPROVED work. I have no idea what is going on there but this is unethical and I'm done with them!

Fantastic experience: I had my semi-annual cleaning with Nora. She has been my hygienist for the past few years. She is friendly and does a great job. My dentist retired and Dr. Gomez took his place. Dr. Gomez did the most thorough exam I have ever had at a dental clinic. Dr. Gomez was also very friendly and knowledgeable. She answered all my questions and had compassion for all my concerns.
Negative experience: They don’t respond to voicemails it’s been 2 months since my appointment with Dr underage and his front office staff is horrible!!!! She was on medical leave then comes back worse!

Negative experience: DO NOT GO TO ROCKFORD DENTAL CARE! The customer service is awful. There is no communication. I called 20 times and when I said I was leaving that’s when they call back. When I was addressing my reasons why I was leaving, the assistant manager hung up on me. I have gone to Dr. Lopez my entire life and ever since he left it’s been a shitshow. Also found out all the fillings I have gotten after Dr. Lopez left have not been done correctly so I have to get all replaced.

Negative experience: If I could give a - star I would. My boyfriend went to this clinic to get a dental procedure today. He paid 486$ in cash upfront which they asked for at the beginning of the appointment . When he went to the back , the dentist refused to to the procedure because he had his camera app on his phone screen. Even though he turned it off they still refused service and it only gets worse , they took 2 hours just to tell us they can’t give him his cash back and will send him a check in the mail Thursday . These people are stealing and should get sued. If anyone knows somewhere I can call and complain about this please let me know.
Negative experience: I’ve been a patient with Rockford Dental for 11 years & this establishment has become horrible. First they canceled my appointment 5 times this year. Then the lady at the front desk had the nerve to say she would reschedule the appointment but she was accommodating me. How is that possible after the inconvenience of me not utilizing my insurance benefits since they kept canceling. Then I get to my appointment the 1st thing that the hygienist yelled at me was my appointment was at 9:50 when in fact it was at 10 & I was on time. Then I needed additional services but was told they couldn’t find the products needed to perform the service so I would need to schedule an additional appointment. I voiced my concerns with these folks that I was unhappy with the situation. I leave the facility & a manager called me to ask if I wanted to cancel my appointment & deactivate my account ( how rude). She should have called to apologize instead of basically inviting me to no longer be a patient. I canceled the appointment & later that day I still get a phone call saying they need to reschedule. How when the appointment should have already been canceled. So all in all it boils down to this place is horrible.
Fantastic experience: My dad was my dentist until he retired 42 yrs ago. After several sorry experiences with five dentists over the ensuing yrs, I only made appointments when I absolutely had to. My wife became ill, I was her caregiver, and consequently let my dental care slip. After she died I decided I needed to take care of myself, starting with my mouth. I asked a good friend who her dentist was and she recommended Dr.Mlsna. At my first visit I explained I was embarrassed by the condition of my mouth and the response was "We aren't here to judge you...we're here to help you." That comment put me at ease immediately. I have had several procedures performed over the past year, my mouth is in the best condition that it's been in for decades, and I am very comfortable and happy with Dr. Mlsna and his entire staff. I highly recommend Rockford Dental Care to anyone, especially anyone who has a fear of seeing a dentist! 8/4/23: Dr. Mlsna retired in March this year. I was introduced to my new dentist, Dr. Loan Nguyen, D.M.D., and discovered that she is very professional, caring, and pleasant. I continue to recommend Rockford Dental Care, located on N. Alpine.

Negative experience: I called in advance to make sure they took my insurance and booked me with someone in-network. Well, after I’ve taken x-rays and had dental work completed they tell me have a bill because they booked me with an out of network provider so I have to pay my bill before my appointment begins in 5 minutes! They didn’t care! Just kept asking for my credit card, even though I’m already paying for my own insurance and they didn’t even bother to help pair me with the right doctor! I was so pissed I could cry! Never again! Do not trust them!
Fantastic experience: All staff were very nice and professional. They were able to get me in for an emergency visit the same day. They listened to my concerns without judgment. I highly suggest Rockford Dental Care!
Fantastic experience: Everything went well. I was nervous When it came to getting my wisdom teeth, removed one of them but overall everything went well. I didn’t really know much about wisdom teeth and then I talked to my sister afterwards and she was like did they give you instructions. I was like yeah they gave me instructions, but she’s like how come you didn’t know about dry socket. After you know it was over with you know Your surgery I was like oh I didn’t know anything about that until my sister brought it to my attention of what dry socket was. It didn’t really say anything about that in the instruction information. My oral surgery just took 40 minutes so it wasn’t that long. I had some good experiences with them. I think the only issue is from what I’ve noticed. It said the phone calls and not being picked up I have had my phone calls returned, but yeah, it’s just that on both sides the oral dentistry and then the regular dentistry. Sometimes they just don’t pick up the phones and you know, I’ve been told that they own lunch and stuff like that, But overall, I don’t really have a bad experience with them at all that I’ve noticed. I have had a good experience with the receptionist. They helped me when it came to my teeth, gargling peroxide. The water on my wisdom teeth was hurting so nothing bad at all. I hope it stays that way. Nothing bad or rude or anything like that.
Positive experience: I recommend this good dental practice. Some details: I started using them about a year ago. the staff is mostly friendly , but they sometimes seem a bit distracted (not 100% focus on the customers). I had good experience with the cleanings and a cavity. My tooth was sensitive after the filing, so they redid it for no extra charge. I've had 3 cleanings - one hygienist could be a bit more friendly, she hardly talked at all so I had to initiate some conversation.

Fantastic experience: Super hygienist Luz, did the best work and gave great advice on taking care of a trouble spot with my gums. Dr. Nguyen is awesome and does great dental work. I have been a long time customer and will never leave.
Fantastic experience: Nice people. Easy to talk to. Pleasant office ambiance. Did not have to wait very long at all. I recommend them.
Negative experience: I was disappointed with my visit. It took me a hour to clean 2 teeth . The waited a half hour in the waiting room.... most of the time alone. I mainly went to have one of my clasp adjusted and they said there weren't any dentists on duty til after lunch... this was at about 2 pm
Negative experience: Made an appointment for tooth cleaning, Call the day before to cancel and reschedule, They’re trying to charge me $75, what a way to do business these people need to go to training to how to treat customers horrible attitudes by all staff except the Dentist. Negative experience: Love my dentist and most hygenists here, but the receptionists give poor service and never answer the phone during business hours. Especially the specialty reception.
Negative experience: Had to wait 25 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. Yet, I had to sign a paper that said I acknowledged that I could be charged $75 for a missed appointment. Really!
Negative experience: Tried to become a new patient. Horrible experience. They cancelled our first appointments- twice. Will never go there. Do not recommend. Should have read the reviews first.
Negative experience: I'm being harassed for a payment that hasn't been done. RDC I'm having a 2 part procedure. I paid for 1st half and was told I didn't have to pay for 2nd half until the procedure October 16th. Yet I've been called,text and received a letter for payment. Get it together or I won't return. So they won't finish the 2nd half of procedure. I'll never go back. A shame when Dr. Johnston was so wonderful. I will never pay for services not received.
Negative experience: I feel I have no choice but leave this review. We have been patients here for a couple years and 1 of my children had a procedure done recently. We paid for the procedure upfront because we were told if we didn’t they couldn’t schedule the procedure. We were assured that we would be reimbursed for anything over the estimated amount. Once insurance went through and I saw the amount we should be owed I spoke to someone and was told the approval would take a couple days and someone would call back. It has been 2 weeks now and I have called and even gone to the office asking for an update. Nobody will call or even email me an update. We are owed money and we would like to get what we are owed. It should not come down to me reaching out on a google review but if someone in the organization sees this. Please contact me so we can discuss what needs to be done. Update: Nobody picks up the phone, nobody returns messages. I have stopped in twice and have been told there is nobody there to help with reimbursement. I have contacted the states attorney’s office now and continue to try calling. I am owed money and I expect to be paid. What you’re doing is not right.
Positive experience: Dr. Appiah & his nurse was very friendly and caring. The down fall is waiting past your scheduled appointment. Waited 30 -40 minutes to get into a room and then waited another 30 - 40 minutes in the surgery room before doctor came in.
Negative experience: I have been with RD for over 20+ years and the service level is unfortunately not the same. Cancellations with no follow ups. New technician needs more training.
Positive experience: The orthodontics side is great, I wish I could leave separate reviews. However the typical Dentist side is so/so. We were quoted with insurance at one appointment and when we went back for the procedures they quoted us differently, I told them they had my insurance wrong but proceeded to say that’s what the price was. Well, cut to a week later I called and was told I was overcharged 300+$ and have been fighting with them since January 2024 for them to send me a check, it’s now October and still no check. I switched dental offices because of this.
