Negative experience: I’ve gone here almost my whole life and ever since Dr. Baker left my satisfaction has gone down. It seems like they always overbook so I’m either waiting in the lobby or im in the chair waiting on the dentist. This morning I waited in the lobby for 45 minutes. I will be switching dentists today

I was referred by my husbands co-worker and I was not disappointed. They got me and my husband in very fast for appointments. I had a 2 day wait and his is only 2 weeks out. Negative experience: Weird how they have so many 5 star reviews when asked on an social media site about them and so many people had the same issues with billing as I. They overcharge, are not honest with billing and fees. After awhile you start wondering if the dental procedures they recommend are even necessary or just another way to get money.

I really am surprised by the five star reviews that they have gotten. honestly, the list is too long of my complaints for me to go into detail.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely excellent! My wife and I both had dental issues that needed to be resolved. My wife having terrible anxiety was made at ease upon arrival. The doctors and staff were professionals and full of positive energy and enthusiasm. Definitely a family dentistry as I watched other whole families be greeted by name as they arrived. A true diamond in the rough. So glad we found this office!!!

I waited 2 years before I won the battle of overwhelming anxiety and called Modern Family Dentistry recommended through a church friend. From my initial contact, I was treated with great compassion and respect for my emotional distress and received exceptional treatment for my deteriorating dental condition. We also discussed and created a long term treatment plan. Me and my teeth are incredibly grateful.I would like to specifically thank Trish, Freda, and Gabby. Fantastic experience: Came here for regular cleaning/exams for myself and my 4 year old. We had Sam as our dental hygienist and she was so good with my cleaning as well as my 4 year old’s temperament. We got to stay in the same room and take turns with our appointments, which was extremely conducive in regards to my daughter’s age. Dr. Marzouk, our dentist, was quick and friendly and explained everything in easy enough terms to understand. He was also very personable. I would strongly recommend Modern Family Dentistry to anyone looking for a dentist and we’re so happy to have found a new dental home for the family. Edit—have had several visits now, as well as a crown put in by Dr. Marzouk and I can’t recommend this office enough. Dr. Marzouk is the first dentist to take the time to ensure there’s no pain, I didn’t even feel the numbing needle. Also Missy at the front is so friendly and obviously cares for the patients. From the beginning to the end of each appointment, we feel valued!

Negative experience: Was trying to find a dentist closer to my home and this was not the one to try. I have always paid out of pocket for Dental, but I was not expecting to be paying almost $600 out the door. I was not informed of the cost of anything, which every other office I have been to tells their self pay patients so they aren’t caught off guard. I would have said no to many things to reduce my cost, as I do not have bad teeth or bad habits. The front desk was nice. The hygienist was very rough knowing that I was postpartum and complaining of my gums already being sensitive, she was also pregnant and said her gums also hurt….. I’ve never had such a rough hygienist that made my gums bleed and I’ve been to the dentist multiple times while pregnant and postpartum for my pregnancies. The dentist was fine, nothing to rave about quick 2 minute conversation to cost me $180 just for that. The lady for billing is very kind. Overall the front end staff are great. I just wish I was told the cost before being blindsided at checkout. I will not be back and I cannot recommend this office due to their high prices and poor service. I will continue driving 30 minutes to Edinburgh Dentistry.

Negative experience: I’ve been coming here for years but finally got to a point where I will not step foot back in this building. I’ve had minor billing issues over the years where they haven’t applied insurance correctly. One of the front desk staff members is extremely rude as well. A crown that was put in less than 2 years ago broke and I called to ask about any kind of warranties on crowns and was told that they would “leave a message” but of course I never heard anything. A week later I received a bill sent to my email through a vague link so I called to follow up as I was not aware I had any outstanding balances and the service date listed was not one I was there. Again I was told that they would leave a message for someone to send me the itemized bill. Several days pass and still no bill so I called again to be told that it was for a service done in August , but it was not sent up to insurance properly and that I actually have a $12 credit with them. Definitely some sketchy billing practices going on over there and I’ve caught a good bit of them over the years but now I wonder what I didn’t catch.

Fantastic experience: Went to Midgette Family Dentistry today for my semi-annual hygiene visit. I have been going to this practice for over 15 years, I think. My visits are always pleasant and virtually pain free, and today's visit was no different. I like the dentists in the practice, especially Dr. Midgette who cares for my teeth and my mom's, and all the assistants and hygienists are competent and personable.

Negative experience: I went to this dentist in August for a cracked tooth. The dentist was in and out of the room in 5 minutes, recommended extraction, put a temp filling in that fell out the next morning, and that was all I saw of him. I experienced pain in the tooth beside it and went back. The 2nd tooth had a previous root canal and I was referenced to a few different endodontics. I went to a local endodontics office and Fast forward a few months and they were able to save my tooth. No extraction was ever needed. With the root can and cap, I'm looking at around 1500 or so. The endodontics informed me that extraction, implant, bine graft etc, would cost upwards if 7-8k, and it's a 8-12 month process. Please avoid this dentist if possible, they are a business out for money. I was pleased with the rest of the staff, from all the techs, to receptionists, etc. Not won't be going back.

Negative experience: There was a lot of uncertainty during my treatment conversation that made me feel uneasy as well as constantly talking about how expensive each treatment would be after seeing that my insurance covers majority of the work. My anxiety was definitely heightened

A lady who came thru the waiting room after her appointment addressing all of us sitting there, claiming how sweet they all are. I didn't have any questions for the Dr because she explained everything in detail, answered all my questions and has an excellent "bedside" manner. Fantastic experience: I've been coming to Midgette Dentistry for years after my former dentist retired. I came at his suggestion. He said that he wanted his patients to have the best care possible. He was absolutely correct! "My" hygienist, Michelle is wonderful. She is personable, gentle and has a great sense of humor. Her love of people, her family, associates and her patients is obvious. She and the finance staff are gems! I miss Dr. Paxton and wish her well in her new practice and will have to get to know this new "team" of doctors (Dr. Shahid, etc.)Thanks.

Negative experience: If I could post a 0 or a negative I would. Family dentistry and they are completely incapable of handling kids. If.you have children take them any place else. Rude, incompetent and no empathy for the children they are treating. We will not be returning.

Fantastic experience: They got me in very quick to put my crown back on. I have SEVERE dental anxiety and they were super patient with me. I was in and out within an hour!

Fantastic experience: I am 61 years old, and I have been to a lot of dentists in my life. I'd say probably more than most because I've lived in 14 very different cities and countries around the world in my adult life (and I was never in the military). I am giving this additional background because Modern Family Dentistry ("MFD") is probably the most impressive dental practice I've experienced. This is the third dental practice I've been to since moving to Hampton Roads two years ago - there is another review on this platform about another practice where I had the opposite experience. I had a fairly lengthy wait before my new patient appointment today with MFD, but it was certainly well worth it. My new patient intake took a little over 90 minutes, and I was seriously impressed by the diagnostic tools that were used. I won't list them in this already lengthy review, but I have never had such a thorough dental assessment in my life. Usually it's a couple of bite wing x-rays and a 30 second poke around by the dentist - if you're lucky. My guide through all of this was Misty, the hygienist, and again, she was one of the best I've ever come across. I've had a couple of experiences where the hygienist was great and the dentist was an idiot, so I appreciate someone who is truly skilled at their job. What was most impressive about the cleaning was that she hand scaled the calculus and plaque on my teeth instead of using the quicker, less thorough ultrasonic scaler. Dr Perkins, the dentist, was similarly impressive. She did a thorough assessment and analysis of my mouth, and dictated what she was finding to Misty using terms that I had never heard before. As you've gathered, I'm pretty familiar with modern dentistry, so that was surprising. She discovered an issue that will require a root canal (that no other dentist had previously found), as well as three tiny areas of decay that other dentists would have/did either overlook or ignored. [9/12/2024 update: I learned today that Dr Perkins has left the practice, but my endodontist gave top marks to all the dentists at MFD.] The most remarkable part of this whole experience is that I was not told that I would have to come back for a "deep clean" at considerable expense. With the exception of my dentist in NYC, every dental practice I have ever been to has said that my gums required a "deep clean." It was the final confirmation that this practice is different, and superior. It will take you a while to get a new patient appointment. I promise you that the wait is well worth it.

Negative experience: I was told i had to pay an amount of 805 for a root canal the first part of the root canal had to be done by a specialist when i go back for my second procedure after they finish they then tell me i owe 855. Why was that not told to me before, the lady at the front desk whom i spoken to before claim she did which was a lie because the only amount she quote was the 805 which i paid no problem. I would have never agree to a 1600 root canal. I would’ve happily went somewhere else. Oo and not to forget i had to pay twice for X-rays and consultation fees because they charged me and the specialist charged me for it too! I was misinformed and information such as second payment wasn’t provided so I will never come back and i will be sure to inform everyone i know to never use this dentist office.

Fantastic experience: Just wanted to review ans another long-time patient at Midgette Family Dentistry. I’ve been seen at this practice for almost 20 years, and I’ve been through several different transitions. I’ve experienced Dr. Baker leaving (he was phenomenal!), Dr. Paxton getting married and changing her name, Dr. Midgette transitioning and now Dr. Paxton moving on as well. Change can be unsettling, but I've consistently experienced excellent care, regardless of whose name is on the building. Giving a one-star review over a name change or a different dentist just doesn't seem right, does it? Nor does it give an accurate representation of what it’s like to receive care from this office and this staff. I've always found the front desk staff, especially Missy and Marsha, to be professional and helpful, ensuring every visit is a breeze. The hygienists are all friendly and personable, and each and every dentist is top-notch. Let's keep focusing on the stellar care and the supportive team that's always been there for us.

Negative experience: I recently wrote a review voicing my opinion of recent events that I was unhappy about. I have had only positive experiences at MFD and I have always expressed those feelings via my reviews. Noone has ever mentioned the positive reviews, yet I was confronted about my most recent one. Well, I went in for my scheduled appointment the other day. As I waited to check-out at the conclusion of my appt, the receptionist greeted me with her hands on her hips and an expression as though she were waiting to scold a child. I thought it was a bit unusual but didn't read too much into it because I'm always joking around with the ladies. Before I could sit down in the chair, she started rattling off about my most recent review...I was immediately irritated, and a bit taken aback by her tone and the fact that she thought it was ok to confront me about my review. I proceeded to tell her to get over it and that was pretty much the end of my check out process. There wasn't the typical exchange of pleasantries, no have a good day, nothing. It was apparent that she definitely had an attitude about my review which had absolutely NOTHING to do with her. Her behavior was unacceptable and very unprofessional. In fact, it was bizarre...I was almost expecting Ashton Kutcher to pop up and say I was being punk'd! This is definitely not a good look. My entire family switched to MFD and I have recruited many co-workers and friends. If you don't want honest opinions, please do not send me the "How did we do" Review Request. I make it a habit to call if I have an issue in hopes of working things out. I did just that before I wrote my previous review....

Dentist Dr. Marzouk and periodontist Dr. Niver we’re very informative and answered all of my questions as I was learning about the complex procedures I was about to undertake. Negative experience: Well my first appointment with the office was a total disappointment. Lucky me, their computer system was down so after waiting for 30 minutes to see if their system was going to come online, no luck so I was told to go home and once their system would come back online, I was going to get a call back for reschedule. That was back around 830 AM April 15th, now I'm writing this around 1221 PM and no call or text from them to reschedule. I'll wait a couple of days for them to call me.back to reschedule. If I don't get a call I'll start looking for another dental office that really wants my business.

The admin staff at the front office are polite, helpful, and friendly - this business values their customers. All of my dental work has been outstanding. So happy to have found them! Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: The best dentistry office in Hampton Roads. Staff is always friendly and greets everyone with a smile. I’ve been going there for over 20 years and was a patient of Dr Midget ( I love him so much). He was so professional and friendly and I hate that he moved away but I will continue to go there cause really everyone there treats you like family.

The staff is warm and friendly, the care was the most gentle but thorough I have ever had and they made me feel welcome. Definitely my dental practice for life.

Positive experience: Initial visit. Friendly staff I saw Dr. Marzoch seemed professional, friendly and took time to listen to all my concerns and answer my questions. Assistant and Financial/Appointment specialist also were friendly and professional and explained costs and procedures with me. Much improved from my previous Dental provider who more or less ignored me over the past year.

The staff was amazing and Missy was so knowledgeable and went to great lengths to provide information about treatment options and choices that would best benefit our family.
