Pediatric Dental Specialists of West Michigan

Fantastic experience: We just moved to Michigan and a lot of families in our town highly recommended Pediatric Dental Specialists of West Michigan even though it is a 1hr and 20 minute drive. My son had to have two teeth pulled which of course we were all dreading. The procedure went well and on his way out of the office he said (with a very numb mouth) "this is the best dentist ever!". Then this morning when I was telling him we had to go back in about a month for one more tooth he said he was excited..... excited to get a tooth pulled He said "it didn't even hurt!". The waiting room is so nice and has plenty of room and I was able to bring my laptop to continue working while he was back in the room. We were SO impressed with everyone in the office and the therapy dogs are the cherry on top. He was so excited to see them again and honestly that was one of my favorite parts too. We will 100% continue to make the drive to this amazing office!

Positive experience: 2025 update: We stopped going here. They don’t allow parents in the back for anything that isn’t a cleaning, so if that doesn’t work for your family, then this place isn’t a good fit for you. There were some procedures that were a little misrepresented to me as a parent. They didn’t technically lie, but it felt as though they withheld important information that would have significantly changed my decision or expectations. So I had something done for my son that I probably would have not had done had the information been a little more transparent. I think it’s common knowledge that many dental offices feel the need to push certain procedures, and it always puts parents on the spot without being able to make an informed decision. And this place is no different. I used to tell everyone with a child that they need to go here. It was a GREAT dentist for kids! They really are kind, friendly, inviting, and warm. My daughter loved going here when she was just starting out. But I’d suggest other places if someone asked me about them today.

Fantastic experience: This is one of my favorite pediatric dental they are kind and very gentle with kids of all ages they explain everything and every detail. I would Recommend this pediatric dental to all parents for there kids.

Fantastic experience: My child had the best service ever. She had some baby teeth that were not very healthy and they made sure to make her comfortable and do everything in one visit. All the staff is helpful and very caring to there patients and parents.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend this office enough! My daughter had quite a bit of dental work done (2 fillings, a crown with a bridge, and even a tooth pulled), and they had everything completed in just 3 visits, including the initial consultation. The entire staff is AMAZING—they are patient, kind, and truly take the time to explain every step so both kids and parents feel comfortable and informed. My daughter was nervous at first, but they made her feel so calm and cared for. The quality of care is outstanding, and I recommend them to every parent I know. If you’re looking for a pediatric dentist who truly goes above and beyond, this is the place!

Negative experience: To echo a common theme of some of the other negative reviews, I don’t believe some of the employees here are particularly concerned about the distress or emotional well-being of the kiddos being treated during the procedures. After a routine exam, the hygienist came out and suggested an elective procedure. They also mentioned nitrous would be used, which should have been an immediate indication that I needed to go back into the exam room. That’s my fault for missing that. But I also wasn’t asked to come back. I didn’t have a problem doing the procedure, as it seemed to make sense. However, our generally very chill child came out at the end exceptionally distraught, clearly disoriented, and borderline nonverbal he was so upset. As a frame of reference, he hasn’t cried while getting shots in years. When I asked why I wasn’t brought back to console my clearly upset child, there was no answer. I told the hygienist in no uncertain terms that if my child had any trouble in the future, I was to immediately be brought back to the exam room. My instructions were not acknowledged. I needed to repeat them two more times before she finally confirmed that she had heard what I said. I followed up with phone call to add the note to our kids’ charts, but the manner of whomever I spoke with could kindly be described as apathetic, so I’m not sure my directive was noted. I’ll give them another chance, as this is the first incident of this sort we’ve had at this office, but my children will no longer be left in the exam room unaccompanied.

Fantastic experience: I’ve taken both of my girls to your office for tongue and lip ties as infants. I can’t recommend Dr. Katie enough, as she is always so welcoming & confident in the best treatment plan. I’m excited to continue coming to the office as my girls become toddlers & teens. We have moved 30 mins away, but will still continue to make the drive to your office because we have been so pleased with the level of care received from the moment we walked into the office until we left. Thank you for providing excellent services & staff!

Fantastic experience: We brought our 11 month old in the this office, he needed multiple buccal lip ties and a tongue tie removed. They were excellent at explaining the procedure, making sure baby was comfortable, and took the time to explain and show us exactly what we needed to do for a successful recovery. All staff was friendly from the moment we walked in, and throughout the whole process. We would definitely recommend this office, and will consider first in the future, if needed.

Fantastic experience: We LOVE the staff at PDS!!! All of the hygienists are fantastic, great with kids of course. My kids do better when the staff takes them back without us, something they suggested and was such a great idea! Dr. Katie is super. So nice to book multiple kids at same time. Run like a well-oiled machine. Very clear with expectations of what insurance will cover.

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing! Everyone of the staff truly cares about each kid that comes in. Some days my kids are all for it and sometimes they're not, but every time they are working with the kids so they feel comfortable and safe. I wish I went here when I was a kid.

Negative experience: I have 3 kids I’ve been taking here for years. 9, 7 and soon to be 5. Over the years I’ve never been late and have only missed one appointment. The one time I did they charged me $50. You would think for someone who brings 3 kids and never is late or misses appointments they would at least give a warning first before charging so much. The first time one of my kids needed a filling they never told me about some blanket they use to calm kids since they don’t allow parents to be with their children for dental work and I found out after that my son was afraid and they charged me to use a $75 blanket. What if I didn’t have $75 to just fork out. I would prefer to be asked first and also it left me feeling very uncomfortable that my child was so afraid. He has hated going back ever since. I started bringing my daughter when she was maybe 2 or 3 and they kept wanting to “fix” that little part that attaches your lip to your gums on top and I kept saying no because it wasn’t something of a concern and wasn’t affecting anything with her mouth. She’s turning 5 now and I still don’t understand what they were wanting to do because her mouth hasn’t been affected by whatever they thought they seen. It has made me feel like they are untrustworthy and trying to perform unneeded procedures to take money. One of my sons recently had to have his baby tooth pulled and I asked about the blanket they use and she told me that “they probably won’t use it because he seemed calm and we’re going to give anesthesia but will let me know if they do.”. So I went to check out while they did the procedure, while looking at the screen I happened to see they were charging me for the weighted blanket so I asked if that’s what the $75 was for and she said yes so I told her the dentist said they didn’t think they would have to use it but would let me know after. I asked if they could take that off until once they know for sure if they have to use it or not. Once my son came out and they said how it went I asked if they needed the blanket and they said no. So they were going to charge me for it without telling me and then probably wouldn’t have told me they didn’t use it either. They have lost my trust and I am moving to another dentist. If you go to this dentist office make sure you advocate for your children and your money because they are sneaky.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend PDSWM, we got them as a referral to have my daughter’s lip, tongue and buccal ties done as a baby after coming home from HDVCH. They were very reassuring during the entire process. They always check in and make sure she has her medicine before having her teeth cleaning! Which is great that they ask knowing it’s important for her heart condition. They’ve gone over plans for my oldest daughter teeth as well. The office is very inviting for the kids, having table, having the kids wear sunglasses, pick out toys afterwards. I love how they used a local artist for the murals throughout the office as well.

Fantastic experience: Our experience at PDP has been very good. Their office staff is welcoming up on entry. Their lobby equipment and visuals helps with any nervous kiddo energy. I appreciate that the hygienists keep boundaries on what behavior is tolerated and what is not. If today isn't your kiddos day for cleaning, they don't try to force them through it and create trauma. PDS is a friendly atmosphere for first timers and return patients

Fantastic experience: We have always had a great experience with PDS! Everyone is very knowledgeable and friendly. I will never forget my first experience of my daughter having a lip, cheek and tongue tie revision. Everyone was so kind to me because I was nervous. The receptionist even held my daughter so I could pay after the procedure! We have continued with the practice since because of the care we received.

Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful practice. My son has sensory challenges and deals with high levels of anxiety. The previous office we went to lacked empathy amongst the hygienists, and they would get impatient and even disrespectful at times. We switched to PDS on a recommendation from a friend and haven’t looked back. They truly know how to best work with children and have the right people in place to make the dentist not be a scary experience! Update May 2025 - my son has had to have two separate appointments where he need to go under anesthesia. They have handled this masterfully from all angles. Great practice.

Fantastic experience: This place has been wonderful with my kids. I struggled to find someone who seemed to understand and care for kids until i brought them here. My son was deathly afraid of the dentist and now he actually enjoys going. Both my kiddos feel safe and happy there. They have worked with me on rescheduling appointments to doing everything possible to making sure we are taken care of. We drive 3 hours to come here and i wouldn't change that. We will continue to go here until they cant any longer

Fantastic experience: This place does great work with small children. They are very kind and friendly. They never have a problem with answering questions or concerns that you may have and always do their best to get you in in a timely fashion. If for some reason they are concerned that something may not work out well there for your child they have no problem referring them to another place that can get the job done well. I take my child here and have had no complaints on there work or the info they give me.

Fantastic experience: Pediatric dental specialists were thorough, knowledgable, and quick to fit in my newborn daughter for a tongue tie evaluation and release! After getting her tongue tie released, she was finally able to clear her congestion and breath through her nose while breastfeeding and sleeping! Highly recommend them!

Fantastic experience: We were referred here for our 4 year old daughter. She has a fear of the dentist and would not allow anyone to look in her mouth. Pediatric Dental Specialists of West Michigan were so kind, compassionate and patient with her and us! They came up with a plan to give her the service she needs, all while making sure she stays calm and comfortable. The staff all spoke to us as if we were a team, working together to meet the goal. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: We drive an hour and a half because we love taking our 2 year old here. From check in to checkout it's such an inviting atmosphere. My son is nervous and anxious but the staff are caring and patient which make the visits run smoother. Plus he loves the popsicles and prizes as we leave. Its a win for kids and parents.

Positive experience: I brought my almost 2-year-old daughter here after she broke her teeth over the weekend. I had called several places and Pediatric Dental Specialists of West Michigan were the first to return my call. They were able to squeeze us in the same day to assess her, which I really appreciated as a worried parent. They quickly scheduled her for surgery the following week and placed caps on her teeth that look beautiful and natural. Because of her age, she had to be put under for the procedure. The surgery itself was quick—only about 30 minutes. I felt the dental fees were fair, though the cost of the third-party anesthesiologist was definitely on the high side. The staff clearly know what they're doing and are great with kids, but it’s a busy place. The waiting room was chaotic—lots of crying kids and families packed in, which made for a stressful environment. The general cleaning areas are wide open with no real privacy, and all the noise made it hard to hear or help keep my child calm. Overall, I’m thankful for how quickly and professionally they handled my daughter’s dental emergency, and the results were great. Just be prepared for a busy, high-energy atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: I’ve found the staff to be friendly and helpful. My daughter has needed lots of dental work at a young age. Through all of it she has been treated so sweetly by the dentists and staff that she looks forward to coming back for her cleanings. They are probably not the least expensive option for dental work and at times I’ve wished I could be in the room during her dental treatments but overall we have been content with their services.

Fantastic experience: Our kids love going to the dentist! They play in the log cabin or read books while waiting to be called. Staff has been calm, professional, and encouraging of our kids with each visit.

Fantastic experience: My son had 3 ties released. They did it same day as consultation and it was so quick! Offered a room to nurse in after for comfort and how to do the stretches along with a follow up to check and see if stretches are still needed. They were great to work with and it helped tremendously with nursing/latch!

Fantastic experience: We had another great experience with this office! Their attention to detail with special needs children is something we appreciate. Going somewhere and being accepted as you are is so important. They were able to work with my daughter and previously other dentists have mentioned sedation. However, this office didn't feel it was necessary. The staff took time to build a relationship with my child. She felt comfortable. The appointment was fairly quick and they had plenty of scheduling options for future cleanings. The office atmosphere is friendly and the chairs and tables are clean.

Fantastic experience: We have been seeing Pediatric Dental Specialists of West Michigan since my twins were 2 years old. They are an extremely kid friendly facility and made our kids feel safe at their first teeth cleaning. My husband and I were able to join the cleaning the first few times and after a while the boys happily went back by themselves. Their cleanings were efficient and thorough.

Fantastic experience: Love this office! They made my girls feel so special at their first visit by writing their name on the board with a welcome! My girls are so comfortable there. All the staff are friendly. The waiting room is comfy and well decorated. Tables available to parents who need to work while kids are having treatment done. Therapy dogs visit on occasion to ease kiddos nerves. Can't recommend this place enough.

Fantastic experience: We went here to get our daughter’s lip tie fixed and the staff was nothing short of amazing! She ended up needing a cheek and tongue tie fixed, in addition to her lip tie. The procedure was explained very throughly to us and only took about 10-15 minutes. Everyone was so sweet! Highly recommended!

They made the experience from newborn tongue/lip ties to first dentist appointment easy and low stress for our little one (and momma too)! We’ve had a couple follow up questions since then and they’re always returned very promptly.

I love that they provide things for kiddos to be able to relax during procedures(iPad,sunglasses..) we were referred here and have decided to stay with them even after we had the procedure done on my kiddo. Positive experience: We have been going for a year. It's better than a standard dentist for kids. My only reason for a 4 star is due to the fact that I know my kid better than the health professionals and felt my concerns were ignored. I requested anesthesia for some work he needed done and they did not want to because my son was well mannered. After expressing my concern several times, the answer was still no. As a parent, I know what situations my son does not thrive in. Long story short, it took two visits to get what needed to be done. He ended up with more work that needed to be done due to his moving when not under anesthesia a tooth ended up getting broken. This was traumatizing for him and to this day, he does not like to go. He is still well mannered when he is there but it takes work to get him there. I wish my concerns were taken seriously the first time. All this being said, they are great with kids.

Fantastic experience: We are very satisfied with the care our daughter has received. She struggles with anxiety and every visit has been smooth, including a tongue/lip tie release. I appreciate the expertise in working with children who have varying sensory responses. I would recommend for any child!

Fantastic experience: Wonderful people, great environment. The dentist and anesthesiologist were amazing with my daughter. They were extremely patient and kind to her when she was scared.

Fantastic experience: The staff here genuinely care about your children’s dental health. They take it seriously while providing an environment where your children feel safe. They also do not make you wait for treatment when it’s needed right away. We were fortunately able to get same day treatment where others would make us wait 6-9 months for treatment on visible cavities. I’m sure same day treatment depends on availability and severity and on a case by case basis but I can’t say enough about their compassion and care for my child and me as a parent.

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience with our hygienist and Dr Stephanie today who saw our 10 month old for his first dentist appointment. Everyone in the office was friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming for littles. Plenty of opportunities for questions and education provided to new parents :)

Negative experience: Please don't bring your children here, instead find a specialist who understands the importance of children feeling safe with their parent in the room. What a crazy time to be not allowing parents in the same room as their children. This is also a huge money grab place, after having a bunch of unnecessary work done we have found our dentist that we are happy with…someone that Let us know that this place did a lot of unnecessary work to my poor almost 2 year old, how traumatizing

Negative experience: Three years ago I had my infant evaluated by PDS for oral ties due to some feeding issues she was having. They diagnose THREE oral ties and tried to sell me on the procedure explaining all the complications ties can lead to and assuring me it could help with feeding. The way they sold it raised some red flags which were confirmed when a second opinion diagnosed ZERO oral ties whatsoever. We eventually found our way into feeding therapy with a speech language pathologist where the feeding issue was immediately identified and resolved, and oral ties were again found to not be an issue. Three years later and we still do not have any evidence of ties at all. To me, it felt like they wanted to prey on parental anxiety to make a quick buck at my child's expense. I would advise a second opinion for anyone considering this procedure.

Fantastic experience: Waited a long time for the dentist, but she was incredibly sweet and answered all our questions! They were also able to see us the same day for an emergency appointment, so the wait was understandable. Will absolutely be going back!

Fantastic experience: We’ve always had great experiences with Pediatric Dental Specialists of West MI. Both of my kids had tongue tie procedures here, and the care they received was exceptional. The dental staff was incredibly patient and comforting, making sure my kids felt at ease throughout the process. The office staff was also fantastic, always efficient and informative when it came to insurance matters, which made everything seamless for us. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a caring and professional pediatric dental team!

Fantastic experience: PDS of West MI did an excellent job taking care of our toddler. We reached out to numerous dental clinics but none could provide care for his needed surgery. So glad we decided to reach out to PDS of West MI and they offered help we very much needed. Traveling more than a couple hours away was worth it and everyone in the clinic was great!

Fantastic experience: Staff was super friendly and caring! Both of my daughters had to have her first fillings and they were super kind and walked them through everything! They also caught my 5 year olds tongue tie, that her other dentist never mentioned and I am insanely grateful because she has had speech issues since she started talking and now after she got her tie fixed, she has improved her speech tremendously!!!! Highly recommend!!! We drive 1.5 to come to this dentist and will for sure be coming back!

Fantastic experience: Such a positive environment. Got my daughters ties cut with their laser, all went well and they were good at explaining the exercises to do afterwards and even had a follow up and listened to all my questions and answered them. Loved how they worked with our insurance and sent everything to them in hopes to be reimbursed. Lots of smiles all around the building.

Fantastic experience: We love PDS!! Dr. Katie, Dr. Steph, and Dr. Taryn are all amazing and the hygienists and support staff are well trained and amazing with kids. My kids love the little log cabin in the waiting room and all the little perks sprinkled throughout their visit. Can't say enough good things!

Fantastic experience: We were recommended to Pediatric Dental Services for our son's tongue tie. They quickly arranged an initial consult. The offices are designed with children in mind and so help soothe and welcome them. They were amazing working with our son, who has autism. Our son actually requested that they become his regular dentist, and we are planing to do just that. The follow up after the initial consult has been great, and they have worked with our insurance to get the rest of the services approved and scheduled. Great experience all around.

Fantastic experience: Everyone was so pleasant and you could tell they enjoyed their jobs. Our assistant that worked with us was amazing with our 4 year old daughter who was quite nervous. They made her feel safe and gained her trust and she calmed right down. We are grateful we found this place and will be taking her younger siblings here!
