Negative experience: Patient beware, this office will try to suck as much money out of you using techniques like upselling. I made an appointment for my husband for a regular teeth cleaning a few weeks ago. I specifically said just a regular cleaning since last July he had a deep cleaning done with Sumter Dental which costs hundreds of dollars that was not covered under our insurance, so when I made his appointment this time, I said no deep cleaning, just regular cleaning! He came home and said he told the hygienist no Xrays, just regular cleaning. He said it was the fastest cleaning he ever had, less than 20 minutes. So it was assumed that he got what we asked for, just regular cleaning! Received bill for $198.00! I called the dental office to say there was a mistake made in the insurance coding because our insurance company denied the claim saying it was a periodontal cleaning. She said he didn't have regular cleaning, he had the periodontal. I explained that was not what I made appointment for! Her answer was the front desk is not responsible for advising you if you signed a document in the past saying you agreed for this service if needed! I asked her what the difference was between this cleaning and the one we were charged $198 for. Her answer was, the dental hygienist has to go deeper into the pockets. $$$! Which was not done at his cleaning because he was out in less time than usual. I said he should have been told that he wasn't getting regular cleaning and from now on please only do regular cleaning that is covered under insurance. She said she couldn't do that because it would be unethical knowing he has deep pockets! You know what is unethical, taking advantage of patients, especially senior citizens, who trusted Sumter Dental to be honest and upfront with their fees! Sorry to say, we will no longer use this denist or recommend them to any of my family, friends, or neighbors. My warning to all, stay away!

Negative experience: Front staff is rude .. hygienist made a rude comment while I was explaining my issues regarding treatment by front staff.. threatened to send me to collections over $25 when I come in every six months regularly and didn't see the bill email.. walked out after rude comment..

They make suggestions and ask us how we would like to proceed with the treatment. All of our procedures have gone very well. They do a great job and I am glad we come here.

Negative experience: This is ridiculous, I loved this place until I had both my crowns done and then was charged $2000 when I was told it was going to be $789. On top of that the lady at the desk was giving me an attitude telling me I had to respect her. I’m never coming back. Absolutely ridiculous.

Negative experience: I do not recommend this dentistry. It's unfortunate because I, along with my family members, enjoyed our service from Yunis for the last couple years, but the company itself has been a huge let down. We have dealt with several issues including a canceled appointment because confirmation texts/emails/calls that they said they implemented were never sent to us multiple times (we only ever received reminder emails but nothing to confirm, ever), a staph infection on the lips after a cleaning, and several instances where they did not communicate costs of services until several appointments after the initial treatment. We've gone back and forth with the thought of leaving this company for another, but because we liked getting cleanings from Yunis we stayed longer than we should have. Good luck to you if you choose Sumter Dental, but we are leaving.

Positive experience: Overall I love my dentist s, Dr. Becker and Dr. Suehr. However, I'm not happy with their billing! They screwed me up about a year ago when they overcharged me!! I still don't know if I got all my money back that was due! Instead of refunding it, they put a credit on my account!! One of the employees gave me a confusing print out of debits and credits instead of just giving me and showing me the total they were crediting me!! Now when I was there, they say I owe a balance. However, my dental benefits statement shows I owe the provider $0!!! I called and got voicemail so I left a message three days ago and no one has bothered to call back!!!

Fantastic experience: Sumter Dental Care is our new Dental Care provider. Out of nowhere our previous dentist stopped accepting our dental care insurance plan. As regular patients in good standing for six years, with no warning we received a letter cancelling us as his patients. That’s fine, because we are very pleased with Dr. Suehr, and the staff at Sumter Dental Care. They are very professional and friendly, and explain procedures and costs ahead of time. On top of that, their beautiful office is just blocks away from our home.

Negative experience: Worst dental experience ever. Do not recommend. Since when is billing insurance only a "courtesy" but not required by a company in the medical career? I agreed to a procedure because I was assured it would be covered under my policy. Only to come to find out some 6 months later, they billed wrong. When I asked, they said they would resubmit it. However it is not a requirement for them. It's my obligation to make sure insurance is billed. Most ridiculous and unprofessional answer ever. I ended up on the hook for something I was assured was covered.

Negative experience: Avoid at all costs. Continuously cancelled / rescheduled my appointments the day of due to the “Dr being out”. This has happened more than just once or twice. Rude customer service & cares little about their patients. There’s better offices anywhere else in the city , go to those not here.

Negative experience: Was charged $200 today for the “dentist” to look at my X-rays and say “oh I can see why you came in that must hurt” then she proceeded to tell me that “you’re going to need an oral surgeon and those 2 teeth will need to be extracted but because of your interesting anatomy it’s going to hurt before, during and after for at least 3-4 days so I would make sure you’re off work” then she walked out. My appointment was at 1 I was told I would be there for about an hour and I walked out at 1:17. The dentist was only in my room for 5-7 minutes if that. On top of that she didn’t go over anything else on my x-rays. Didn’t even so much as tell me I need to schedule a cleaning. Just walked out and left me feeling like I was “too far gone” for help. I was expecting to need work to be done as I have 2 broken teeth from grinding and a bad experience with a previous dentist but she left me feeling even more distrusting than I already was. All she was worried about was whether I had a PPO or not. To add insult to injury she didn’t even tell me what I should do for pain in the meantime, I had to walk back in and ask the front desk. I will be getting a second opinion and telling anyone who will listen to steer clear of this place.

Negative experience: I thought overall my experience was nice until I received a bill for almost 300$ from a service that was in September. Come to find out Sumter Dental preformed a service on me knowing that it was not covered by insurance. When they asked me about the service they were already in my mouth cleaning my teeth so I had no way of checking! Very sneaky in my opinion! i feel like I was taken advantage of especially as a new patient. Will NOT be returning in the future.

Negative experience: Sumter dental told my wife that is deaf/ hearing impaired that her dental insurance would cover her crown since her tooth was cracked and could not be saved. Sumter kept billing the insurance several times covering nearly a year and each time the insurance would pay a little or decline most of the charges. After Sumter dental figured out that her insurance just wasn't going to pay what they were supposed to they sent my wife a bill through email that kept going straight to spam. Since their billing practices exclude phone calls or politely sending a letter in the mail they just send bills to collections and then added 25% to the total. #1, Insurance companies take your premiums and refuse to pay claims especially if you're insurance is part of a group employee plan since you can NOT take them to small claims court. DO NOT sign up for dental plans through employee group plans.You are better off saving your premiums and go bare and just negotiating the cost of your procedures with the dentist.#2,Take your business to companies that have quality consumer practices that actually TRY to contact you before sending your bill to collections.

Negative experience: WARNING: While these people seem nice, they are taking your money! Read the other 1 star reviews! I have some attached to this review. They will and have double bulled( billing insurance and charging you the same amount) this was no accident, they refunded $1400 to me because I found the over bill, wondered why it was so much to begin with. They wouldn’t refund me or even entertain it until they got “paid by insurance” luckily I had all the proof I needed and they refunded the amount they overcharged me. I went there for help and have had nothing but problems with my teeth, mouth and bank account since!

Positive experience: I’ve been a patient along with other family members and have recommended others to this place for the last 7 plus years. However my time has come to an end as I received a text saying that my scheduled appointment in a week will need rescheduled. I had called and spoke with Amber. All my visits I’ve never had an issue and the staff has been very pleasant. The first few appointments that she had mentioned were available were days or times that I was unavailable as I travel for work. So February was the next available (4 months later) unless I wanted to be placed on a cancellation list. Normally I would be ok with that if I was in town more. The main reason I had to discontinue my business with Sumter Dental is due to Amber’s sarcastic response that she read off and I quote “20 different dates” which is so far from the actual amount. If this was my first encounter with them, they’d be getting 1 star however I know that everyone has been pleasant when I’ve been there and maybe Amber just had a bad day but unfortunately it cost them a loyal patient. I encourage management to review the phone call if there is question as they may be monitored for quality purposes.
