Negative experience: Billing department is not transparent and they double charged for their work. They charged my mother and her insurance company and then gave her a hard time getting her $500 reimbursed!! When she did get reimbursed it was only for $250 and they came up with an excuse as to why she was not going to receive her full amount! Very corrupt and I will NEVER use them! Based off of the other reviews they have an issue with billing and are overcharging and then not answering their phone.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient of Dr Witten for a long time. Everyone is always courteous, professional and efficient. I also want to salute Arlene, who has been taking care of my teeth for 20 years! An old post, miss Arlene, Hannah did a great job!

Fantastic experience: Everybody at Downtown Dental Jax were so amazing that I said a silent prayer to my Creator and Savior thanking them for guiding me back to them because there were all kind of obstacles trying to block me from seeing them. When I opened the door to enter the building, the young ladies made me feel so welcomed and Savannah WoW, what a wonderful personality , and she can really clean teeth. Negative experience: Called to schedule appt. Receptionist gives me an appointment for 10 AM next morning. Before we hang up I ask “is this on Adam Street?” She says yes. One hour later I receive a text message saying that my appointment scheduled for tomorrow and the address on E. Bay St. I then called the office to question the location. And it’s confirmed that it is on E. Bay St. I was then sent another text mssg. Next morning, I’m on my way to my appointment using the E. Bay St. address on my GPS. Had to circle the block because parking had gated entrance Which made me confused. I finally parked there, but couldn’t find the building. A woman showed me how to get there in walking distance on the side of the building. The receptionist was kind and Asked me if I had the parking ticket, when I gave it to her she said you have five minutes To move your car and put it in the lot across the street. I told her I would just pay. I asked her why wouldn’t someone have told me to park across the street?!? She said it says that in the text. (I did look at my text message and it did give the E. Bay St. address, but it did not say where to park) I didn’t really wanna run around like that. But at that point, I asked her as a receptionist when scheduling a new patients appointment I would think that you would be sure to notify patient of any pertinent information regarding parking across the street or where the building might be or any kind of little tips. The 4 ladies behind the counter sat there with their jaw dropped and not one Of them said a word. I also thought that I might hear from the office manager to question why I left. (To late now) The office needs to be more compassionate. Receptionist desk is the first impression of your office. Not a good experience!

Negative experience: Total waste of MY TIME. Will never go here again. The front office is incompetent and booked me for a doctor that was no longer there and I couldn’t get anything done for the appointment. I only found out after waiting 20 minutes and then sitting in the exam chair. ALL of this could have been avoided over the phone when I asked all my questioned and they confirmed it could be completed. When I informed the doctor of the senior he didn’t apologize or say he would try to fix it moving forward. They do not do their job to a satisfactory level. They lost my business.

My hygienist, Bonnie, was exceptional — warm, gentle, and incredibly thorough. She took the time to explain everything, made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process, and truly delivered top-tier care. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients. Highly recommend Downtown Dental and especially Bonnie if you’re looking for a hygienist who combines skill, kindness, and excellence.

Receptionist was kind and helpful......Bonnie was great/thorough...made me feel at ease....My Dentist was good(forgot his name) and appears to be honest with my treatment plan....and the young lady who did my estimate and payment was very helpful and kind..My overall experience was good and I Pray the whole experience be exceptional.

Fantastic experience: (Never do negative reviews but this has to change) As of late every time I go in for my Invisalign treatment it’s been a disaster. My gap was closed a year ago and I got my permanent retainer. Soon as I put it on I told them it felt like it opened my gap. They said it’s just a new appliance and surely enough it opened. I’ve been through this process 2-3x since. This is getting ridiculous. So many times I drive out 45 mins and took time off work just to be told my time is wasted. You guys need to step it up I been here 20+ years. (I’m 27. Not one of these old dude with rotten teeth)

Positive experience: I had a crown a temporary crown put in today will actually on Monday it came out on Tuesday so I am waiting to hear from them so I can go back on Wednesday and have the temporary crown put back in other than that I guess my experience has been pretty good I'm a trucker I'm leaving town I need that temporary crown put back in

Negative experience: All the positive reviews written recently are fake profiles created by management. Do not go to this dental office if you love your teeth. There is committing malpractice and cause long term issues. I am currently dealing with nerve damage in my gums. I beg you guys please do not go to this clinic! If I could give no stars I would!!!!!!

Negative experience: Please save yourself the trouble and DO NOT CHOOSE THIS DENTAL OFFICE. Oh where to begin but long story short I can’t even describe the emotions I felt stepping into the office. The lack of attention not by the front staff but my the management just absolutely disgusting. I rarely leave reviews so for me to leave one says a lot. The manager spoke to me in a tone that was unacceptable and treated me as if I was a bother. The management beyond unprofessional, very toxic energy. I will never ever recommend this ESTABLISHMENT for your HYGIENE NEEDS.

On my last visit I started having heart palpitations and they were so concerned about me they made sure that I stayed until they were sure I could drive. Fantastic experience: I called Downtown dental in a lot of pain...my dentist office at the time said they could see me in 2 weeks. When I called Downtown they asked if I could be there in 30 minutes...they not only took care of my immediate need.....they set me up with a care plan and have corrected a few areas that the previous dentist had done. They are professional and personal...so glad that I called them.

Negative experience: Where do I even begin? In the beginning things were normal operations until I questioned billing. In my 18 years of health care and a medical rep for NE FL I am highly disappointed in this practices operations. I have been sitting in my 28th Invisalign retainer since Christmas time. I was rescanned and I brought attention to my teeth not moving like they should be my visit prior to Dec. I waited 4 weeks due to holidays and not hearing from this office on my retainers arrival. I also contacted billing over my concerns. This was on my bill that was only $4100 due to the 1k taken off for the Invisalign day I attended. I even kept my receipts and the one i signed with their staffer writing a balance of 4100 and my 1750 down payment made. The org bill of 5100 included, 4600 code D8090 Comp Ortho,adult dental & 500 for D8680 Orthodontic Retention (my insurance didn't cover this upon verification process when this doc was signed 4/2024 . The young lady in billing was supposed to get to bottom of this and get back in touch with me. She said they took 2k off which did not make any sense, which math is not hard and this is basic math at that. I gave her two weeks to get back in touch with me. Still nothing, so i called and LVM again. I've been more than patient despite the numerous phone calls i have made, leaving VM for the office over this. Feb 2025 I was able to speak to front desk to find out where was my new retainers. I spoke with my provider and he was seeing an issue with Invisalign that required him to contact them. I also mentioned the billing issues i have tried to resolve. He promised me he would get back with me by the end of the day over my retainers and billing problems. We are now into March, yes i have called again leaving messages expressing my frustrations over the fact I have been in the same retainer since Dec. I absolutely shut my card off and I lvm stating this as well. Bc when i spoke to billing back in Jan she told me i still owed overed 1500 after I already paid in 3538 of 4100 contracted bill.. This poor girl did not understand what she was doing or looking at the comprehend this billing breakdown. Even when i told her all the amounts i had already paid out with the total amounts. She realized i was correct and needed someone to look into to call me back (2 weeks no call back) Paid: 1750 (down payment) 5-15-24 475 (nobody knew why that amount pulled 52.78 (odd payment to auto draft) 205 ( i called to pay that to equal my bill amount for the month) 263.89 263.89 263.89 263.89 = 3538.34 I paid in out of 4100 I just wanted my teeth fixed. After all of this I could have went to JU paying 2800 for braces, taken the rest on a bridge. I have been patient, I have been compliant and have gotten anything but good customer service from this office. Now< I'm hearing I wasted money on these retainers bc what I need for my teeth it will not be effective on. (front tooth shifted upward and need it to come down to look even) I cant even get a phone call back . All I wanted was someone to rectify my billing over this add 1500 I'm told i owe when in fact it should only be 562. And why am I still in my 28th retainer since December? This is crazy and just bad business. I've done all I can do and feel as if i exhausted measures to reach ppl in this office. Christina Dick

Negative experience: Beware of Hidden Charges & Unprofessional Service! Dishonest Dental Jax I’ve had two visits to this dental office, and both have been disappointing, but my most recent experience was unacceptable. While they did inform me in advance that my appointment time was changed due to my hygienist being unavailable, I was still frustrated by the lack of consistency in care. The real issue, however, was being charged $47 for a fluoride treatment without being informed of the cost beforehand. When they asked if I wanted the treatment, they never mentioned it carried an additional charge—I assumed it was included in the routine cleaning. Had I known, I would have declined. When I questioned the charge at checkout, the receptionist was incredibly rude and dismissive, refusing to let me speak to a manager or anyone in charge. Instead, she told me my only options were to pay the charge or have it posted to my credit. I was told it is the customers responsibility to know THEIR pricing because everyone’s insurance is different. Even though no pricing information is posted anywhere onsite. I also requested a call from a manager to discuss my concerns, but unsurprisingly, no one has followed up. Adding to my frustration, the dentist never checked on me or spoke to me at any point during the appointment—if there was even a dentist on duty. The lack of communication, transparency, and professionalism in this office is alarming. This place seems more interested in sneaky upcharges than patient care. If you value honesty and respect, I strongly recommend finding another dental office.

Fantastic experience: I started visiting this dental office just a few months ago, but the comfort, patience and respect that has been shown this far has been right remarkable. They went out of their way to assure I understand each procedure and I was comfortable during it. I would highly recommend this dental office. GREAT !!!

Negative experience: Verified they were in network 4 times before scheduling my appointment. I arrive and then they tell me that it's out if network. Couldn't tell me how much it would cost to fill in my tooth where the filling came out. I drove an hour to get here. Total waste of time.

Negative experience: I've called many times with concerns about my mother's treatment, whom is paying out of pocket due to a lack of insurance. They fail to return calls. It's very frustrating when her temporary crown falls off 3 times and she has to pay $30 to Uber there and back every time it happened. It was frustrating to call and be told "someone from the medical team would call back" to provide me an explanation and they never did, after several calls. It was frustrating to finally get on the phone with one of them when I called back, and she had a terrible attitude and no explanation, the call was cut short and she didn't call back. It's really frustrating when her pocket depths are over-measured (confirmed by a family friend hygienist) and she is told she need two more quadrants of an expensive periodontal cleaning than she does rather than charging for a couple teeth in those quadrants. It was frustrating to pay off the balance of the account and randomly be charged $75 without permission after the fact, and a confusing response from the front desk about what the charge was for. She said the manager will call back in a few weeks if they find out if a credit will come back with no explanation of what it was for. I find it had to believe they'll try calling back. I don't trust this office or their medical care.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Witten is one of the best and Dr. Andrew with other dentists carry that respected legacy well. I have been a client for over 25 years and have had a lot of dental work by their hands. The hygienists are kind and some have been there a for years.

Negative experience: I’ve received outstanding dental treatment from Downtown Dental. The medical staff are phenomenal! My rating relates with the poor communication with the business office staff that handles billing and insurance for patients. They fail to return calls and lacks the ability to file insurance claims with the appropriate insurance company. They were provided with updated insurance information and did not update their files accordingly. After diligently attempting to contact their insurance department to confirm if they billed the correct insurance company, my bill was sent to collections. I was told they would contact collections and have the late fees reversed. However, it’s very disheartening to hear an apology when this could have been avoided. Their apologies will not fix my credit score which was affected by their negligence.

Positive experience: I’ve been going to this dentist for years. Today was my first bad experience. Communication between them and insurance carriers could be better. My new insurance was not put in, even though I gave them the info over the phone prior to my appointment. I was told at the office I wasn’t covered for a service, I called my insurance and they repeatedly told me it was covered. I will have to double check everything going forward. I really hope there is no confusion with my next service.

Fantastic experience: My experience at Downtown Dental Jax was absolutely wonderful, from the front desk to the assistants and all the way to the Dentist himself. From the time I walked in I was respected as if I had been going there for years. Everything was explained to me thoroughly before anything was done. I was a little apprehensive when I first went but they relieved me of my fears and concerns. And I have to say that the Dentist himself ( Dr. Austin Grovenstein) has one of the most pleasant bedside manners that makes you feel so comfortable that you can comfortably bring your entire family. I was also very impressed with how organized everything was. So if you need a Dentist family go to Downtown Dental.

Negative experience: This has to be one of the absolute, worst experiences ever. I called their office to schedule an appointment after filling out their online form. The woman I spoke to confirmed my information and insurance, then scheduled my appointment. I scheduled time off from work and went to my appointment. I walk up to the counter and explain that I have an appointment. The woman at the counter explains to me that while she sees all my info, there is no appointment scheduled. So she offers to schedule a new appointment. I agree and inform her this is just for an annual check up. I get my new appointment and show up a little early. They take me back and begin an unusual exam with some strange device that takes a 360 degree x-ray, (so the woman explained). Then she asks me which tooth hurts. I ask her what does she mean? She explains that the appointment was due to me having a toothache. I politely tell her that this appointment is for a routine check up. She leaves to speak with the dentist and tells me that since he has a cancelation, he can fit me in. After being examined by 2 dentists, I'm told I need a deep cleaning and several other services. As I proceed to check out at the front desk, I pay my copay of $31.00. A woman shows me a paper with all these services I "need" with the pricing. I ask her if I could have a copy and she explains that they will send me a copy. After my visit, I receive numerous texts and emails for various appointments, no explanation whatsoever in regard to what the appointments are for. I proceed to cancel all the appointments. Then I receive a bill in the mail for $289.00 with no explanation for what the bill is for. I call their office and end up having to leave a voicemail. I left my name and number with a request that someone please return my call to discuss the bill. I subsequently receive 2 more bills. No explanation, no return phone call. I even sent them an email...no response. Today, I receive a letter from a collection agency. This is the final straw. Monday I am contacting an attorney, the American Dental Association and the BBB. What a scam!

Fantastic experience: I had some serve tooth pain I needed checked out. I was referred to this office, I was scheduled and seen almost immediately. As someone who is TERRIFIED off the dentist I felt very comfortable walking in and being greeted by the staff. Suzanna was my dental assistant and BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE to her. She genuinely cared and asked me questions on how I was feeling. We laughed and she made sure I was comfortable before seeing Dr. Portalatin. He was warm, welcoming and really had a way to keep me calm while informing me. We ended up having to pull my tooth that day. I was in the best hands possible with those two. He talked to me the whole time to make sure I was in a good headspace and comfortable. Overall even with a surprised tooth pulling this was my best dental experience ever. I’m happy I was referred here and I found my new dentist office. Big thank you to the staff, Suzanna and Dr. Portalatin for everything!

Fantastic experience: Excellent service. Arlene is my dental hygienist who I have been seeing for years. She is terrific and very proficient. She is definitely a '10' on thoroghness.

Negative experience: The new patient special is a trap. They tried to get me to pay over $600 for a “deep cleaning” that would require numbing shots. Went to Carlson dental for a second opinion and very glad I did. They took care of me for only $250, no shots required. Downtown dental also immediately went on a scary sounding pitch about how “bad” my teeth were in need of braces and went into financing options without asking. Honest dentist’s are always amazed at how straight my teeth are especially when they hear I’ve never had braces. The ones looking to make a quick buck always pitch me braces in my experience. Wouldn’t trust anyone in this office.

Fantastic experience: The best. If I have to do this all over again this the place I'll go. Omg how do I forget this awesome dentist name. Not to worry I'll edit later. I got a tooth pull and bone grafting. Omg I did not even feel when the tooth came out. Thank you so much you'll are awesome.

Fantastic experience: Attention was up scale,,Im gratefull will see you soon ,Ms Hana got it going. ,thanks Hana.only bad thing the front desk forgot to give me a parking label,,I end up paying $10 for my 2:30 hrs..please dont forget to help everyone,,to save a little..it was going to be $3.00.

Fantastic experience: It was a good experience in that I haven't been to dentist in several years everyone was very kind and so professional looking forward to my next appointment on the 6th of August I some work done so I can a lot better thank you for assisting me and getting my mouth and teeth done ✅

Fantastic experience: Love, love, love the new office! Dr. Witten and his team are the utmost professional healthcare providers and they deserve a wonderful new office that reflects their professionalism! I will also enjoy the new location.

Negative experience: The Dental hygienist is always professional and friendly during my visits. I would give her 10 stars however; I had a real bad experience with the staff not letting me know that the busy moved. After I've spent 2 dollars at the meter on Adam's Street, I found out the practice had moved. Once I obtained the right location, I didn't know where to park and had to pay another $2 to park at another meter. On top of that I'm late and I have the dental hygienist behind because of my tardiness. When the staff contacts the patience to verify their appointment, this is the perfect opportunity to let people know that you are in a different location. When I walked in the door, I asked why I was not advised of the move. The receptions said, we sent out email and text alerts. As I explained to her, I did not receive either message. And her reply it was sent to all patience. I thought her comment was very insensitive and she did apologize for the inconvenience. The staff stated I text the word stop in my text message so that's the reason I didn't get the message. If you thought that, why was I not notified when you called to confirm my appointment? Plus, if that wad the case, how am I receiving this survey thur text? The front desk customer service hasn't been the same for awhile. The staff is only their to do a job with no people skill. If it wasn't for the hygienist I would probably find another dental office. I understand things happen but it's how you treat people that goes along ways. Please work with your staff on their people skills and to remind everyone who has an appoint or need to confirm an appointment that the office has moved. This will make everyone life alot easier especially your hygienist because now they are behind schedule for late arrivals. Have a wonderful day.

Fantastic experience: Excellent staff! I would like to throw a special shout out to Dr Grovenstein and Lou! I lost a crown and have a special event coming up in a week and they took extra care of me to ensure I could smile again. Very professional and kind!!!! I highly recommend Downtown Dental

Positive experience: Dr's are great..however scheduling is awful two many wrong appt for wrong Dr. Wrong date Scheduling appt for fitting when item not there yet. Getting something other, and less than what you paid for, and having to reschedule to get right item. All of this happened to this one patient. Can't imagine what others have had to deal with.

Fantastic experience: I LOVE the new office! When I entered, couldn’t help but notice the beautifully designed and comfortable waiting area. I was greeted with a friendly smile at the reception desk as always. When I got to the back, the place was huge! Lots of comfortable exam rooms. My hygienist, (Bonnie) was friendly and knowledgeable and sporting a great smile as usual. I noticed a few more new friendly faces and even met a new doctor, Dr. P. Overall, a great experience. Great work as usual everyone!
