Positive experience: I used to praise Dr Dorsey and staff. Now I have a different perspective. Dr Dorsey is a wonderful dentist. Unfortunately his staff (not dentist). Do most of the work on my teeth. When talking to them their education isn’t med and dental school. They are all kind and behave professionally but not dentist. I had an implant which was put in by a tech and then checked by someone else- not the dentist. The implant didn’t sit right, so couldn’t chew. Went back and finally Dr Dorsey fixed it by grinding the implant down. Also have problems with food getting caught because gum doesn’t cover top of tooth.

Fantastic experience: I had a very pleasant experience at The Family Dentistry. I received shots to numb my mouth by Dr. Dorsey and it wasn't painful. I can not say this about other places that I have gone to. The tech Owella was extremely gentle and attentive to my every need for the appt back in June. She gave me some Tylenol to take for pain. I have never been treated like this before at any dentist office. I can truly say it was a good day. Thank you so much Team Family Dentistry.

Fantastic experience: I forgot to leave a comment! Over the years (since a teenager) I've had horrible experiences with dentist. No compassion, rude, didnt listen to me or my concerns. I recently moved from the Davenport area and had an amazing dentist. A few days after moving I've of my back molars broke along with part of my filling. My insurance was about to end and I went to a dentist in clermont and was not happy with at all. I originally wanted my tooth pulled and to be done with it. Both my original dentist and the one in clermont advised not to saying it was a good tooth still. Fast forward to my appointment with Dr. Dorsey. From the moment I walked into the office for my first visit to consult with about my issue every single person I encountered was absolutely amazing. You can literally tell that the vibe and work environment is a healthy and happy one just by the way they all acted and treated people. Some may say its their job or its their customer service voice but I could tell it was so very much more than that. Then I met with Dr. Dorsey and it all made sense. He was amazing, personable, kind, caring. He told me the same thing as the last 2 doctors about my tooth but one thing he did say was something id already noticed about my teeth above the problem one and that was enough to change my mind from having it pulled to getting a crown and the dreaded root canal. The day of my work being done everyone once again was amazing. Consistently checking to make sure I was ok and if I needed anything. Again I know this is their job but again I noted that it was so very much more than that. I just want everyone of the staff to know how much you all are appreciated and how even though I dont have a dental fear I can tell that you all can make someone with a dental fear feel so comfortable and relieve some of that. Every interaction from my first phone call to my appointments was by far the most positive interactions I've ever had. I HIGHLY recommend this office to anyone looking! Everyone speaks, smile, and tell you are beautiful, even when my face looked like a blowfish. They answer and return your calls in a timely matter. They don’t take all day with your appointments before or after. They are professional at all times. I can’t say enough about Dr. Dorsey. He always takes his time and explain things to you, he smiles, he always say don’t worry I gotcha! He called me personally after my first process of implants to make sure I was ok. Negative experience: I scheduled an initial consultation. After approximately two hours of examinations, photographs, and evaluations—which I found to be acceptable—I was approached by a staff member who presented me with a treatment plan. She explained, using a printed document, that I would be required to pay $370 for the first visit, over $400 for the second visit (which would cover the cleaning), and more than $1,000 for a third visit. Before leaving, I asked her to clarify the amount about the first visit, what portion of the costs would be covered by my insurance and what would not. She informed me that the insurance had covered the diagnostic exams, and that the remaining charges included an electric toothbrush and toothpaste. I was quite surprised to learn that a product I had never been offered or consented to was already included in my bill. This felt like a highly aggressive sales tactic. I made it clear that I did not wish to purchase an electric toothbrush, especially since I already own one. This experience left me feeling uncertain and skeptical. I began to question whether the proposed treatment was entirely necessary, and whether the prescribed antibiotics for a routine cleaning were genuinely required—or if these were simply added to inflate the cost. It is concerning that a practice would attempt to charge $370 for a product without even seeing it and discussing it with the patient beforehand. While the office itself is sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing, and it’s clear they value the patient experience, the aggressive sales approach I encountered was disappointing and eroded my trust in the process. I left with the impression that they just want money and nothing else.

Negative experience: This has to be the worst place I have ever been. I went in for a cleaning and they tried to sell me everything. Was told I had to make two appoints to have my teeth cleaned. I walked out . Horrible place, don’t waist your time. I was there 90 minutes for nothing.

Negative experience: I’ve been a patient at this office since 2016. Even after relocating to Davenport, FL, I continued to return for services due to the trust I had built over the years. However, since the office moved next to Texas Roadhouse, I’ve repeatedly encountered issues with unexpected balances on my account—often surfacing months after services were rendered. For example, I picked up my Invisalign retainers in November. During a routine visit today, I was informed that I owe $350 for those retainers—an amount that was never mentioned at the time of pickup. This is not the first instance of unclear billing. The office tends to overcharge for services, and when insurance doesn’t cover their inflated prices, the remaining balance falls on the patient—without proper upfront communication. The process is confusing and frustrating: you receive an automated text about your account balance, call the office, and staff are unaware of any charges. Then, during your next visit, you’re suddenly told you owe hundreds of dollars. I’ve had enough. I take my finances seriously, and the ongoing lack of billing transparency and accountability at this office is unacceptable. I will no longer be returning.

I had initially been excited to work with your dentist and team, as I have heard positive things about the practice. However, my experience was marred by an interaction with a team member named Sonya, which left me frustrated and disheartened. I reached out to your office due to extreme dental pain, needing urgent care during the holiday season. Understanding that this would likely be a busy time, I took the next available appointment, hoping to receive the care and attention I needed. I also had a prescription for pain relief sent to my local pharmacy to help manage the discomfort. When I spoke with Sonya, I was met with a condescending tone and an alarming lack of urgency or empathy. I expressed that I was in severe pain and simply requested an estimate for the appointment so I could have a clearer understanding of the cost, as well as an idea of what procedures might be required. Instead of offering helpful information, Sonya became argumentative, dismissive, and combative over the phone. This was especially disappointing as I was already in distress and just wanted to be informed and supported during a difficult time. As someone who has worked in healthcare, I am familiar with the importance of empathy, communication, and urgency, particularly when dealing with patients in pain. Unfortunately, Sonya’s behavior was far from the compassionate and professional care I expect, and it caused me to feel more stressed and unsupported. Frustrated by this interaction, I hung up and called back, hoping to reach someone who could offer a more empathetic response. Thankfully, I spoke with Ashley, who was kind, understanding, and apologetic about the situation. She listened to my concerns and went out of her way to provide the support I had been hoping for from the beginning. Ashley’s professionalism and compassion were greatly appreciated, and she truly turned around my experience with your office. While I am grateful for Ashley’s assistance, I remain deeply disappointed by the interaction with Sonya. This experience has left me questioning whether this is the type of care I can expect from your practice moving forward, especially when dealing with sensitive situations like dental emergencies. I hope you take this feedback seriously, as it is essential for any healthcare practice to provide not only excellent clinical care but also exceptional patient service, especially when patients are in pain or distress.
