Positive experience: I feel like I went to a completely different dental office than all of these other reviewers! Maybe it was an off day for them when I went. To start, everyone was very nice. However, I think I must have had a newer technician that could use some more training. She couldn't figure out how to operate equipment and how to take the x-rays that I needed. The x-rays were actually painful and I've never had that experience before. I received multiple x-rays of the same areas due to errors with her technique. The dentist didn't have all of the equipment she needed for my exam and needed to ask for more to be brought. I also wasn't able to schedule my cleaning. The technician said she would tell the front desk to schedule me in November but when I went up they said they couldn't schedule me and to call in October. All in all I'm not sure if I'll be coming back for the cleaning or if I will find another office as I do not feel completely confident in their care.

Fantastic experience: Last week was the first time I had a dental appointment at Riverwood Dental Care. The building is new and there is plenty of parking spaces. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I received the best care since I retired. I highly recommend it for all retired military personnel who have Delta Dental insurance. My experience was very good.

Fantastic experience: I was made to feel welcomed and special by the dental hygienist and the dentist. It is closer than our last dentist as well. So, my husband and I are very happy with the change.

Fantastic experience: I went in to get a partial. Sabrina did the scan and I turned out perfect. Dr Murphy came in to fit it and it was so close there was no adjustment necessary. Those two are real professionals. Everything went so smooth. From the time I arrived for my appointment until I left everyone was so Courteous and professional. The front office is top notch. They will always have my business.

Negative experience: Very frustrated…went on a cruise where I had no access to service. Received one phone call that asked me to call back to confirm appointment (didn’t receive this message until Saturday when ai returned when their office is closed). They said I didn’t receive the second call because their office was closed. Didn’t receive a text message that they said I should have received. Walked in at 1:56 for my 2pm appointment only to find out it wasn’t cancelled due to not being confirmed. Asked where this information was listed and they pointed to a paper on the desk hidden by many other things on the desk that states your appointment “may” be given away if you don’t confirm. Can’t talk to office manager because they are “out of town” and there is no back up to this position evidentially. So if she is gone you are just out of luck. Never received a call saying it was cancelled, never received a text saying it was cancelled. Nothing. Just walked in to a cancelled appointment…one that I confirmed when given to me as this should be my confirmation when I sign up for the appointment.

Negative experience: I have decided to leave this dental office. I have been calling and texting this office since February 25th in an attempt to have my tooth fixed. The office did not call me back until today, 5/28/2025, when they advised me that the first available appointment was in August. When I expressed my displeasure at the fact that I have been calling and texting for over a month, all the attendant said was "I'm sorry", and when I told her I was leaving the practice, she just said "OK". Woah. I have been using Dr. Murphy for well over 15 years. No more. Find another dentist's office that actually cares about their patients. This isn't the office. Love Dr. Murphy, but he's lost me. ***This is my PREVIOUS review*** Dr. Murphy is a wonderful dentist, and his pricing is fair. The answering service is the absolute worst I have ever encountered, and I work in customer service. Dr. Murphy himself being so awesome is why I keep coming back.

Negative experience: I scheduled my dental appointment four months ago, new patient exam and cleaning. I showed up on time, completed all the required paperwork, and went through several imaging procedures. After Dr. Odhiambo quickly examined my teeth, I was told—only then—that I wouldn’t be getting a cleaning today. I was also told that the front desk should have informed me of this before I was brought back. Yes, they said they could fit me in later today, but that completely misses the point. I made this appointment far in advance for a reason—I have other priorities and commitments today. After additional back-and-forth between the hygienist and front desk, I was told the next available cleaning appointment would be in August. This entire experience was frustrating, poorly managed, and unprofessional. Dr. Murphy should be embarrassed that his practice operates with such a lack of communication and respect for patients’ time.

Positive experience: Painfree while doing procedure! The only thing is the temp bridge is partly teeth colored and other tooth is silver? The wait time to get an appointment is very long. I had the flu and couldnt come in for appointment, they couldn't get me in until April. I am thrilled they do EVERYTHING in office, exractions, rootcanals etc. I just wish appointments were easier to get.

I have been going here for years but recently aged out due to my parents insurance so I tried going to another dentist to get a crown for my implant but they left my implant in shambles. Luckily I went back to Dr. Murphy and he instantly same day took care of me and did an amazing job with my crown. I was in immense pain and couldn’t close my mouth properly but they sent me home feeling brand new and taken care of. They’re always so kind here and the facility is always super clean and maintained. I truly don’t know how I’d be right now if I hadn’t gone here with them it was an amazing experience,Thank you so much again!

Positive experience: My dental hygienist, Denita (hopefully I spelled that right), did a great job! I was really nervous, but she was really patient and gentle with the flossing :). No bad news, so I didn't see the dentist that long, but he seemed friendly and seemed like he would take his time if there were any concerns. The only negative was the initial wait. I had an 11:30am appointment, filled out the paperwork online, arrived 15 minutes early, and still waited until 12noon to be shown back. I was a new patient so maybe it will be less of a wait now that I'm established, or there may have been some sort of emergency I couldn't see, but no one else was in the waiting room with me. Just plan some extra waiting time into your visit if you are new!

Negative experience: New to the area. I needed dental bonding to fix chipped front tooth. Previous dental bonding work done on this tooth was in 2018. It only came off after munching on hard caramel popcorn around end of 12/2024. On 1/6/2025 I called Riverwood Dental Care to set up my first visit as a new patient which they scheduled for 2/27/2025; the soonest available for Dr. Johnny Murphy - Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) in-network dentist. I got a text and email reminder this past Monday, 2/24/2025 to confirm my schedule which I replied "Yes" in the text message. I also called to confirm the work being done (dental bonding). To reiterate, I waited for almost 2 months only to be told by the dental hygienist/assistant that the dental bonding will not be done today and will be scheduled only after discussing my dental plan with Dr. Murphy. The only thing they did today after waiting for almost 2 months was partial x-ray of front teeth and the recommendation of a dental crown after oral check-up by Dr. Murphy which lasted maybe 5mins? The actual date they can do dental bonding is sometime in May 2025! Unfortunately, the only other dentist, Dr. O is not an in-network dentist. Now, don't get me wrong. The people I interacted with (front desk, dental hygienist/assistant) including Dr. Murphy were all nice and friendly. However, the negatives outweigh the positive. I was extremely disappointed not only by the long wait in scheduling and not getting the dental work done as I expected, but also with the issue in billing. I was asked to pay the fee for partial x-ray which I said should be free under the 2025 BCBS FEP Dental Benefit - Class A (Basic) Services - 'High Option' for in-network dentist such as Dr. Murphy. It was immediately corrected. In addition, I noticed the receipt summary for today's visit is showing the charge/fee for partial x-ray have been deducted to the BCBS annual benefit maximum of $3000 which is incorrect because there is no HIGH OPTION annual benefit maximum for NON-ORTHODONTIC (IN-NETWORK) services; only for out-of-network. I even called BCBS to verify and they confirmed I was correct. I filled up the new patient form in advance online, and provided my dental insurance information the day I called to schedule my first appointment (1/6/2025). It made me wonder with their 4.9 rating (1.1K) reviews, how can something like this happen? I'm glad I kept myself well-informed. Either employee training is needed or a clear standard operating procedure needs to be enforced in order to improve customer satisfaction. I am supposed to do my free annual dental cleaning on Monday, 3/3/2025, but I ended up canceling. I'll be looking for another dentist in the area. Tungpalan

Because I haven’t always had pleasant experiences going to dentists, I was a little anxious about my appointment. However, I had a very pleasant experience. Every staff member I encountered the entire time I was there were friendly and professional which helped to put my mind at ease. I’m very glad I was referred by a receptionist at another dental office who didn’t have any openings to Riverwood Dental Care, and I highly recommend to others.
