Negative experience: Very expensive and opportunistic dental office; they offer unnecessary 'amenities' such as heated chairs but then charge over $300 just for a cleaning that takes 20 minutes. They pushed strongly for wisdom teeth removal when I did not have any insurance (and so I would have paid over $2200 out of pocket) but I waited and came back a year later, now with insurance, and all the sudden the removal "isn't needed" and was told by an outside office that taking them out would possibly even cause nerve damage. Lack of transparency with which insurance they actually take, and prefer to show bills on a calculator instead of saying them out loud in the office. Friendly staff, but be prepared to pay exorbitant amounts for standard care, or be told that something is included with your insurance only to be slapped with a bill weeks later.

It’s important to clarify that we have both in-network and out-of-network providers at our office. Since you saw one of our out-of-network dentists—who has been practicing for over 38 years—that could explain the lesser reimbursement of the out of network status. We do have in-network dentists who accept over 95% of PPO plans, and we would be more than happy to help you switch to one of them to better align with your coverage and budget.
As for the recommendation regarding your wisdom teeth, we follow the standard of care based on clinical evaluations, x-rays, and long-term health outcomes. Sometimes, timing and insurance coverage do influence treatment plans, but patient safety and prevention are always our priorities. Our recommendation was made with your future well-being in mind. That said, if you have concerns, we welcome the opportunity to bring you in and discuss your case further—we’ve stood by our care standards for over 50 years and continue to prioritize the best outcomes for our patients.

From my initial phone contact to schedule an appointment, to the initiative-taking care delivered by a team of dental hygienists and Dr. Elhady, I experienced organized, efficient, and patient focused care in immaculate, comfortable, and relaxed spaces. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. The dental hygienist Hansu was great and had a lot of patience with me explaining everything as well as Dr. Elhady, they were very informative. Fantastic experience: I had my very first cavity ever and I was extremely nervous because I hate needles. Doctor Eckhart did an amazing job. She was a very calming influence and I literally did not even feel the pinch or any pain. I was in and out in 30 minutes.
Positive experience: NOTE to (and ALSO 3% credit card fee, that they didn't notify about when asking for me to pay over the phone since I was out of network) out-of-network patients or cost-conscious persons who look to staff for guidance of cost expectations or billing procedures. The care is good but providers don't have to deal with insurance or cost information or perhaps they shouldn't opine on costs. When I specifically asked about costs (specifically being out of network), the team does not seem to know what exactly goes on until after the fact and merely respond with "we don't know until we bill the insurance" or "we don't know until after they bill". It would certainly help for persons , like me, looking for providers who don't leave them frustrated after the fact. Seeing other reviews, it's not just me and the whole practice of not being transparent with costs or billing when asked really leaves a bitter taste. I showed up to my appointment because the practice used to be in-network when I got invisalign treatment but then they left the network. I saw other dentists but went back to them strictly because of invisalign. They did an x-ray to check for other dental-related issues but being out-of-network I raised my concerns and was told that billing should be the same. When leaving the appointment, I asked the staff what would be billed and is this covered. They did not know and replied as above. This is not the only practice that does this but at least a good practice can show diligence to patients who are vigilant. This can and will easily dissuade others from wanting to receive care. It's not about the cost of the care (though there are limits) but at the same time, when the practice shows this diligence, it's an effort to show that care matters especially with costs, not just offering amenities to be getting brownie points. I'm leaving the area so it probably doesn't matter anymore but you wonder why healthcare costs are high and the lack of transparency exists. This practice is no exception. They do seem to be transparent when it comes to costs of procedures that you are considering but I was vigilant about this. Not sure if they would give that to someone who doesn't ask ahead of time.
We want to address your concerns regarding the transparency of costs and billing, particularly for out-of-network services. We understand that you were frustrated by the lack of clear information about costs before and after your appointment, and we apologize for any confusion this caused.
At the time of check-in, you provided your new insurance information, and we attempted to verify your plan. However, due to the limited time available before your appointment, we were unable to complete a full verification of your insurance benefits until after your appointment. This is the reason why we request the insurance information ahead of time. As is standard practice, we always file claims to the insurance provider first to determine coverage. Since you have insurance, we rely on their response to guide us in determining what will be covered. However, we do not know if there will be any balance due until the claim is processed. Even if insurance estimates 100% coverage, there can still be discrepancies, as insurance companies often have low allowable amounts that may leave patients with out-of-pocket expenses. This is the reason why we are unable to quote over the phone. We collected the full payment for your visit on that day because we did not receive your insurance information in advance. We have submitted the necessary details to your insurance provider, who will reimburse you a portion directly.
Regarding your appointment, we scheduled you for an Invisalign check as requested. However, during the visit, additional dental concerns were identified, which we were not aware of beforehand. As a result, the treatment provided and any associated costs were not fully predictable until the doctor had a chance to assess your situation. This is why we are unable to provide a precise cost or quote over the phone, as we need a full diagnosis to determine the necessary treatments and associated fees.
We understand the desire for clarity around costs, and while we aim to provide as much information as possible, the nature of dental care often requires a thorough examination and diagnosis before we can give an accurate estimate.
In regards to the 3% credit card processing fee, we want to clarify that this is a practice many businesses, including ours, have started to implement due to rising expenses. We do our best to communicate this charge upfront, and it is noted in our text reminders, on our website, and on a sign near the credit card machine to ensure patients are aware before making payment. Since we apply a 3% fee for credit card payments, you can still use a debit card, cash, or check without any additional charge

Fantastic experience: Although my wife and I have only been patients for about a year, every experience we have had at OFD has been a positive one. From an appointment system which is efficient, yet flexible, to a level of care that is way above what I had expected. I came to the practice with a lot of 'deferred maintenance' stemming from anxiety and fear from previous experiences. Yet, now I 'almost' look forward to my appointments . I recently had several extractions and, thanks to the skill and care of Dr. Elkhart & Rommie, the entire process was an absolute breeze. I recommend OFD unreservedly.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming here for about two years now for regular cleanings and drill and fills. I have needed regular dental care since I was young (damn this sweet tooth). This is by far the nicest dental office I've been a patient of. They are considerate with topical numbing gel before going in with the big needle which I find to be the most stressful. My dentist, Dr Elrayah, is very confident in her work and I can tell you she does a good job. I haven't needed a bite correction after a drill and fill with her. If you are looking for a new dentist or are new to the area I highly recommend this one.

I love the menu of options to make your appointment more enjoyable: chair warmer and massager, plush blanket, noise cancelling headphones and of course nitrous Oxide! It’s like being at a spa and helps ease the anxiety I feel from childhood fear. I travel quite a distance to be able to come to Oakton Family Dentistry, and I am a patient of over 20 years.

The procedure was shockingly quick (less than 10 minutes after numbing) and truly painless. The plan is to never have to have a filling done again. But if I do, I’d hope to goodness Dr. Lee is the one to complete it. I had a fantastic first experience with Oakton Family Dentistry. All of the clerical staff welcomed me with a smile and a great attitude. I was introduced to Katie, a hygienist on the team. Katie was very personable and welcoming. She was careful yet precise in her work and did a great job. Dr. Elhady was a pleasure to speak with and laid out a clear and concise plan for my short-term dental health goals. The patient accommodations exceeded any expectations I had and even include automatic massaging chairs. Oakton Family Dentistry has earned a long-term customer in me.

Fantastic experience: I had my first dental cleaning in a while with braces and Kelly Jo made it such a wonderful experience, she was careful around my wires and cleaned very throughly ,if you know how hard it is cleaning with braces well you know. Dr Elhady helped identify a possible cavity, he explained oral hygiene and was very attentive, overall this practice is amazing and I’ll be bringing my husband here soon ☺️

Negative experience: My recent visit made me think if I should continue using their services. I have been visiting them from almost 4 years now. The first time I visited them, I was told that I needed around 14 fillings based on the X-ray and there were no other issues. I did pointed one thing to the Dr seeing me about one of my front teeth that was not troublesome but there was something going on with it which didn’t seemed normal to me. She checked it and confirmed that there were no issues. I got the 14 fillings done and wouldn’t say that the experience was good as I never felt comfortable after getting the procedure done. Fast forward , during my last visit, the Dr seeing me said that I would need a root canal for the teeth I had pointed earlier as there’s some infection developing near the root!! I was literally in a state of shock. They showed me the X-ray from 2021 and compared it with the recent one and they looked almost the same!! Had the previous Dr provided me a heads up for this (even after me pointing it) , I could have taken some oral medication considering I am very much scared of getting any dental procedures! Also, this time I was told that I would need 4 fillings and that would take 3 hours! The previous Dr with the same practice took 2 hours for 14 fillings. I was also suggested to get all my wisdom teeth completely removed! So they want me to schedule 3 appointment basically for fillings, root canal and then wisdom teeth removal. Even with all that I went ahead and scheduled the appointment and then a couple weeks before my appointment, I received an email from them quoting a proposed bill for just the fillings which was a total of around $1300 out of which my insurance covers around $950 and remaining would be by us. All this makes me think if they really are a good practice or just there to make money. They’re super friendly and give instant appointments for first/second time patients. Post that, they’re giving you a hard time to even cancel your appointments and stressing on scheduling one during your cancellation with an excuse that they get booked very quick!!

Some treatment was done but our records indicate other areas of concern. Fantastic experience: I love coming to this dentist. They are so warm and welcoming and accommodating. It's pretty easy to make an appointment too. The chairs are comfy and they have trivia on the ceiling to keep you entertained. Dentists are super friendly and easy to talk with. My kids even like going here! I'd highly recommend this for anyone.

Fantastic experience: Had an amazing first time experience at this location. Thr hygienist was amazing and so was the dentist. Amenities include: water, tea, coffee, heated massage chair, tV overhead (with amazing trivia), noise canceling headphones and more. Also got an awesome gift (mug) and the usual brush and tooth paste. Loved the warm and inviting feel and most importantly the fact that everyone spoke good English (my past dentist was good, but it was next to impossible to understand him easily).

Fantastic experience: OFD Is such an amazing patient- focused and oriented practice. Fantastic experience: Excellent! I (and family) have been receiving the BEST dental care for over 26 years and counting!! Dr Scimeca and his wonderful staff provide excellent professional dental procedures with the latest up-to-date high tech equipment, attention to detail, ease of obtaining appointments, (especially during any emergencies) all with a touch of Dr Scimeca's humor!!! PS Dr Scimeca is soooo gentle and careful with his shots and procedures that I have no dread of "visiting the dentist." Fantastic experience: I honestly hate the dentist but this place makes me not mind going. They are very nice and accommodating. I had to get Invisalign after having braces multiple times before and they made the process affordable and easy. Fantastic experience: My husband and I went to Oakton Family Dentistry for the first time today. They offered their services free of charge to all veterans and their spouses for Freedom Day 2020. From the day I called to set up the our appointments (I spoke to Allie who is so wonderful and friendly) to the time that we walked out of the office after our appointments, we received such friendly and great service. Our hygienists (Kelly Jo for me and Katie for my husband) were so friendly and knowledgeable. Others like Rommie and Julie and the marketing director (sorry I forgot her name) were also very friendly. The dentists were very nice as well. The office was very clean and their COVID-19 protocol made us feel comfortable and safe. We will definitely come back. PS - we were also given some baked goods to take home - oh so good!! Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. I have dental trauma and all of the staff has been great about that, working with me to make sure I’m comfortable. I’ve seen all the doctors and everyone has been great! I definitely feel taken care of and well informed about my treatment plans. Telling how much I appreciate them: are out of network for insurance and I still keep coming here rather than finding an in network practice.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to Oakton Family Dentistry for over 10 years. Before then I was very wary of dentists after several traumatic experiences. From the moment I called to make my appoint, met the hygienist and eventually Dr Scimeca I was immediately relieved. Through the years my family has expanded and so has OFD, they are now conveniently located right off 66. Dr Elhady was essential in my young sons early years of knocking out his front tooth to Dr Elrayah taking care of my girls. We just feel at home. The front staff is always accommodating and the hour’s convenient for my busy family of six schedule. I cant say enough! They are the best practice!
