Negative experience: Told me I couldn’t schedule an appointment because even though we have been to this location several times, it isn’t our usual location. Had to schedule at their Gilbert location- but was able to. Interesting.

Fantastic experience: My daughters have been coming here for almost 3 years now. My youngest who is now 6 had a dental emergency due to her taking a fall off the trampoline. The doctor and assistants are always amazing and so caring. My daughter was so afraid of being hurt they didn't make her flinch once. She had to get all 4 front teeth removed and everything went so quick and smoothly. I am so grateful for all of them and how they continue to treat my girls.

Fantastic experience: Our experience at Sun valley pediatric dentistry is always great! My son has autism and they are sooooo patient with him and kind every time we are there. So extremely grateful for everyone there for knowing how to work with my son. Although he has autism and it could be overwhelming because he doesn’t cooperate at times, the team at Sun Valley, from the dentist to the dental assistants and even the front office team everyone is so kind and helpful. Especially grateful for the team member Zelle who makes my sons cleaning appointments go smoothly because of her patience and great attitude. Extremely grateful for their kindness and the amazing service they always provide !

Fantastic experience: Such a great visit. Nice big clean office. Yhoa was my child's first dentist visit she is one I was so nervous. The doctor was so kind and patient and the dental assistant was so helpful they gave my daughter a ballon while she waited which was just enough to keep her occupied. They both walked me through the process and how it would go. Which helped ease any anxiety I had as a parent. The appointment its self was quick. My daughter didnt quite enjoy it and again he was so patient and kind it worked out great. Overall top notch. They also are super easy to get an appointment with. Easy to set up a new patient account and I was able to do all the paperwork online. I highly recommend.

My 4 yo loves going to the dentist, the dental hygienists are AWESOME. I would highly recommend to any parent looking for a Dentist for their kids. You will not be disappointed!

Fantastic experience: Loved the dentist, he was great and is the reason why I give a five. He was so graceful and gentle with my baby, which made up for the rest of My experience. When we go to the doctor, especially regarding our babies, we want to be greeted with Hospitality, warmness and kindness. We don’t want to walk in the door and be greeted with an attitude or by somebody who doesn’t really seem to enjoy their job. I wasn’t greeted with a good morning or a ‘Hi how are you?’ or a smile-not even from the person who brought us back to the room. I tried to give people grace, but those same people also need to remember that they are working in a children’s office so no matter what you’re going through, you need to greet the kids with a smile so they know they’re in a safe spot. It’s really just unacceptable in this day and age to have bad Customer Service skills in a Customer Service job

Fantastic experience: I've taken my kids here for years. The dental assistants are so kind with the kids, they eased their worries right away. The staff is always professional and considerate. Three of my 4 kids have gone through braces and have beautiful smiles now. The dentists and Ortho docs are conservative and proactive with treatment plans. The pricing is fair too. If your looking for excellent patient care and a place your kids will look forward to visiting, I highly recommend Sun Valley Pediatric Dentistry.

Fantastic experience: As usual all staff courteous and helpful! Today was second 6 mth check up this year and like the Feb appt checked in and child in the chair at the appt time, not 15 mins or more after appt time as has been on the occasion in past over the last 12 years. Dr. Carmichael is great at answering questions and explaining just how to properly floss and brush w/electric brush because we all know our kids will listen better to another adult over us parents because kids sometimes think parents don’t know what we are talking about. Lol. Appreciate his and staff’s patience being sure my kid’s chronic disease is acknowledged & taken into consideration during his dental care.

Dr. Carmichael showed remarkable skill, patience, and compassion. Equally, Dr. Lombardi was outstanding—calm, reassuring, and highly professional—helping me feel confident that my son was in the best hands. Together, they created an atmosphere of trust and comfort, turning what could have been a stressful experience into one of relief and gratitude. I truly admire their teamwork, expertise, and kindness.

Fantastic experience: I love this location. I started taking my son when he was old enough to go to a dentist. He is 13 now. My kids love going to the dentist more than pediatrician. And this location is amazing. I drive 40 mins because I want my kids to continue to enjoy their dental visits.

Fantastic experience: My son who has ADHD and has a lot of sensory problems does good with the assistants and Drs. They are so patient with him before starting, they explain what they’re doing to him so he’s aware, he’s very anxious little guy and they treat him so well. We’ve been coming here for years and never had a problem with them, he’s had treatments done in the past and everything goes smoothly. We’ve seen Dr. Balsmeier for all the appointments and we really like him, he’s so kind, funny and my son likes him, he’s very patient and he makes sure they give my son extra time to calm down before they start on anything. Today we got a new doctor so we were a little nervous but Dr. Whitener was so good and kind, he made time to talk to my son (even though I saw they had a full schedule) who was very nervous and encouraged him because my son made a comment about school because of his anxiety and adhd. We all felt motivated on what he said and after that my son had a very positive experience and attitude. I recommend this office to take your kids here. Drs and assistants are really good and patient.

Negative experience: Edited . Horrible. Today I had an appointment with Ortho. I checked in. The Ortho finance girl came and did all the payments plan and everything. Went inside , the nurse informed me that the palates were not in here so I have to reschedule my appointment like in 3 days or so . I told them than why didn't you guys called me or text me about that .... she was just . Had the same experexperience with them before too . Checked in . They called us in and than they told us oh you guys don't have an appointment today ‍♀️ Like do better please SMH . I HAVE SEEN SUCH GOOD REVIEWS BUT I THINK THOSE ARE FOR PEDO . NOT FOR ORTHO . Nope just had an appointment with pedo today . There policy doesn't make sense . Like if u running little late ,then you have to reschedule your appointment but they make you wait like an hour SMH Today July 29 Their customer service is horrible

Negative experience: The worst service ever. My son had a dentist appointment at 840am. and got there at 830am.. Other people who got there at 9 am. were called in first. I walked out at 935 because we were never called.

Fantastic experience: This office is the first office my boys ever went to see the dentist at starting at age 1 yr. Today, 11 years later, we're still going to this office. We've stayed with this office their entire lives so far. My kids actually enjoy going to the dentist! Their experiences here have been great. They have fun. The staff has been professional, kind , attentive, careful,and have positive demeanors. The office is spacious, clean, well organized and nicely decorated. They play movies in the waiting room and have a little section for kids. They have a couple machines that dispense different little toys. The kids get a token at the end of their visit to use at the Machine to get a little toy of their choice. The dentists have always been good listeners. They've always taken the time to explain anything necessary to me. Their chill Ora sets a good tone These pictures were taken at this dentist office a few years back.

Fantastic experience: The Dr did an excellent job cleaning and brushing my 17 mo old baby's teeth. And I was shown how to effectively clean his teeth at home.

Positive experience: My daughter said the Dr. was rough and hurt her gums and her teeth were still hurting hours later from him scraping the tarter off her teeth My daughter has Autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Everything else was fine, other than it took much longer than it should have. Appointment at 1 pm and ee didnt leave until 2:20 pm.

Fantastic experience: If it’s difficult to get your child to the dentist office, I promise you that if you bring them to Sun Valley Pediatrics , you will no longer have that problem. The entire staff is absolutely amazing. They have a way of comforting a child that, I don’t know how they do it, but it’s just absolutely wonderful. My child used to hate going to the dentist; She was Horrified at the thought of dentist. Until I brought her to Sun Valley that is. Now, when it’s time to go to the dentist, there is no kicking and screaming! so if you’re looking for a place where your child could be comfortable going to the dentist, Sun Valley Pediatrics would be the best place to take them Hands Down!

Negative experience: *I want to start this review by stating I’m a dental professional with nearly 10 years of experience. My 7-year-old son and I were there last Tues, 05/20, and had a horrible experience; I left absolutely infuriated! Firstly, I was never told beforehand or made aware that I would NOT be allowed back in the clinic for the procedure. I have been there 2 times for cleanings and was allowed back and the experience has been enjoyable. They took him back and needed to update his X-rays first. About 10 minutes later, they called me to go back there. I walked into his room and was immediately confronted with attitude by the assistant. Her tone and body language were obviously annoyed, she stated that he was screaming and crying and not allowing her to take the X-rays (remember it’s only been a few minutes, they did nitrous beforehand, I also don't believe he acted this way, I believe he was hesitant and giving pushback but how would I know, I wasn't allowed back there). Without talking about it, she immediately said we needed to SEDATE him. I made it very clear at the previous appointment to both the Dr and the assistant that sedating him is not an option. My guess is they failed to chart it or just didn’t care. I know my son doesn’t need to be sedated. He’s taken numbing injections and had fillings done 4 times WITHOUT nitrous and didn’t even squirm. I told him he needed to cooperate, and he said MULTIPLE times, “I know, I’ll try again.” I looked at the assistant and asked if he could try again with me there, and she said, “We don’t fight kids here. You can take him somewhere else.” My son looked so disappointed and upset and he asked one more time if he can try again and I told him, “no let’s go, she’s apparently not letting us try again and I will not let them sedate you” (when I know it’s unnecessary, it was just plain laziness) and we walked out. I later called the office manager, she was polite and listened. She said she would speak to the other doctor and get back to me within the week to see if he would work be willing to work on him?! It seems the only option at this office is to sedate. Ultimately, she has failed to call me back, and I’ve been patient and have given her 1 week plus 3 days to get back to me before leaving the review. This is obviously not a priority to them. I would advise anyone not to come to this office for the sole reason that they do not allow parents back for treatment, regardless of whether the child handles treatment well or not. I have never, in all my years in the dental field, have heard or seen this. But even if so, they’ll just sedate them. There is zero patience here, which is wild when their business is built on treating children. I will never refer anyone here.

Fantastic experience: Came in as a referral for my son from Tiny Teeth in Goodyear. Wrong x-rays were sent and repeat x-rays needed to be done. The dentist explained everything to my nervous kiddo. His disagreed with the treatment the other office was going to do and recommended something else. Did the first part in office that day. My kiddo handled it way better than at the other office. When the other hygienists noticed my son getting alittle upset, she jumped right in to help it go faster. We both were grateful. Going to be switching all our kids over asap. The staff was top-notch and so nice.

Fantastic experience: Sun Valley Pediatric Dentistry has been our spot for years. I cant speak more highly for Dr. P, I believe thats what they call him. He is absolutely amazing! My youngest has extreme anxiety when dealing with drs in general! Even getting his teeth cleaned today he was in tears. While Dr. P was looking over my son’s mouth and coming up with a plan he was so kind and patient with my boy! He talked to him and helped him get through his appointment! My son has to have a tooth pull and I wouldn't take him anywhere else. My kiddo unfortunately had to be put to sleep 4 years ago to get some work done and we have to do it again. Its a very scary thing but they have done such a great job! Highly recommend!

Negative experience: Not a so good firts time experience, we had to wait for 45 mins for the dentist the assistant even ask me if I want to be re-scheduled. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Negative experience: I was taking my 2 kids there years prior but moved. Well I moved back to the area and thought I would try this place out as I really liked it before. This time not so much, seemed to be all new staff. Staff was off putting. Did not speak much at all. They did the X-rays then a short cleaning, all of a sudden the dentist comes in talking about sedation options. I had to ask why they even wanted to sedate my son. The entire experience gave me bad vibes. They were not informative what so ever and no bed side manner especially working with kids. I won’t be taking my kids back there again.

Negative experience: The assistant who tended to my 6 yr old was rude and not nice. It seemed like she didn’t like working with children. From what I remember with my other children, sealants shouldn’t hurt but she hurt my 6yr old and he screamed and cried so I know it really hurt him because he otherwise is a brave boy. He complained of his ear hurting him alright after the procedure. However, the Dr seemed nice. But this experience traumatized my 6yr old.

Fantastic experience: DR B is amazing and worked my son in today, after a sudden onset of some tooth sensitivity. My son has anxiety and Dr. B always takes his time to make sure that he understands everything he's doing! Thanks for the amazing manner in which you treat your patients. Erin

Fantastic experience: I am so grateful for Sun Valley Pediatric Dentistry. They accept my insurance. They are conveniently located near my home. They consistently stay on top of my son’s routine cleaning and during our most recent visit Roxanne & Monica took such good care of him making him comfortable the very step of the way. I look forward to continuing taking my son here once we are ready for braces.

Ever since my son was 5 he had a traumatic dental experience at a different pediatric dentist I chose Sun Valley to continue his care my son is now 16 out of braces and still getting his cleaning they are still great with him! My daughter who is 3 years old had her first visit here and Ambar was so patient with her. Very kind even when my daughter was having a tantrum she was supportive calm and extremely empathetic to my son daughter and myself I do not second guess bringing my daughter here after a bad experience at another local dentist! Sun valley has been amazing the staff the Dentist are all so amazing!

As a parent of a child with special needs, I've often find myself feeling anxious about routine medical appointments but the MA zelle made us feel welcomed and she took her time she made my children feel at ease by showing compassion answered every question my son had! Lol Dr. Balsmeier is super laid back which is appreciated. Over all experience the team is knowledgeable, patient and charismatic! Thank you all for having us!

Negative experience: I have been bringing my daughter to this office for 14 years. I called on Wednesday to schedule a cleaning for my daughter. The person I spoke with stated it would be $89 for a cleaning for a 15 year old. I went in this afternoon for her appointment with the expectation to pay $89. They have this program that they wanted me to sign up for which I declined and just wanted to pay the out of pocket cost. She asked someone, whom I guess was the manager what the out of pocket cost would be. She says as of today our prices have gone up and for her cleaning it would be $499. A basic cleaning for almost $500 no thank you. I walked out of there and you should too. They don’t care about patient care they want their money. Dr. Carmichael is a wonderful doctor but I can go somewhere where they actually care about their patients and not want to empty their pockets!

Fantastic experience: I love this place! We’ve been coming for 7 years. My youngest son is autistic, and the whole staff just does an amazing job at making him feel comfortable. We see Dr. whitener most of the time but all the dentists are great. It’s so weird to tell my kids they have a dentist appointment and they are actually excited to go lol.

Fantastic experience: I was a little scared getting my daughter (11)braces but she feels great, a little pain, but mostly she she is in love with them. Everyone was professional, everything went smoothly. Hopefully I come back for a farther review on how she’s feeling, for now I’m happy with the job done. I did come back to get my younger daughter(9) braces too and this my new review, I got to say it was the best decision I have made, my daughters teeth are molding so nicely and her biting improved I am really happy I did it. Definitely worth the money and time. Very professional dentist, best doctors in their care, I can’t be any more happier choosing this place for my children.

Negative experience: Non stop surprise bills after almost every visit. While I am there, they never mention any payment is needed until I get notified weeks later I have an outstanding bill. I have been taking my children here for 12 years and this had never happened before until a few months ago.

Positive experience: They were great at getting the job done. Which isn’t a bad thing at all! But I gave them 3 stars because the dental assistants that have worked with my daughter weren't very friendly with her. They all seem to be inconvenienced by my daughter not being an easy patient. She’s three. You’d expect it to be understood that children aren’t always going to listen the first time around— especially considering that it’s a PEDIATRIC dentist. I’m now worried about my son getting seen since he’s an infant. I don’t expect much patience from them anymore. Might switch dentists because of this but I’m not sure. On the other hand, the dentists (I don’t remember any names— sorry!) that I’ve seen on each of my daughters five visits were very friendly and great at working with her! They knew exactly how to distract her from the scary parts and interacted great. The only reason that I’m not set on changing dentists is because of them! The waits are never long initially, but I have waited a good while on a visit or two for the dentist to come in and check out her teeth.

Negative experience: Not Happy, with our appointment. I the middle of the appointment they asked us if we could move rooms because they needed the room for a baby. Well they took us to an open room with other patients. No privacy at all. Is not fair that you don't treat all your patients fairly the same. If you didn't have a room for the baby, then hurry up with our appointment so we can be out soon and room can be available for next patients. We were moved to an open area with other patients and waited an extra 30min there for the dentist to come. The baby that walked in after us and we got moved out of the room for was taken care first and done with their visits before the dentist came to see us. Never happy with this office, they have very poor customer service

Fantastic experience: Overall a great experience for the kids. Nice facility and friendly staff. They were a little backed up so it took a while to see the dentist after the cleanings and X-rays, but the staff was very communicative the entire time and offered their apologies a number of times.

Negative experience: Got quoted 260 to do 4 cavities and a cap. Scheduled off the quote. Went to the appointment and Dr did one cavity (costing me 130)then not completing any other work. saying needed sedation. This is after saying he did fine after the first filing. Dr said we are doing this in four sections as soon as entering office.( Not intending on doing the work in one sitting) However, front desk presents everything being done at once. So you will be told one thing and a completely different thing will happen. They are simply stretching the bill. It's sick. Not looking out for the patients but their bill instead

Fantastic experience: We are very pleased that we found Sun Valley Pediatric Dentistry. The best doctors, assistant’s & staff, and very kind & gentle. It’s been six years since our granddaughter first started coming here. The office is always clean and the staff are always very professional, and friendly. We’ve never had any issues with scheduling and our wait time is average, 10-15 minutes. I also like that they have a great orthodontist in office as well. Thank You Sun Valley Pediatric Dentistry.

Negative experience: I have been taking my 3 daughters here for almost 10 years and have never had a bad experience except for this last Monday June 24th, 2024. All the description I got from my daughters (because grandma took them) was that the girl was wearing glasses and had cherry designs on her nails. She was horrible to my oldest making fun of her asking if she had ever thought of getting braces because they are really bad and all 3 complained about her being too rough while doing their regular cleaning. They are experienced on getting their teeth cleaned but they are still really sore after 2 days. I hope she gets good training before she talks to kids and handles their procedures

Fantastic experience: Sun Valley Pediatric Denistry has been taking care of my son since birth he is now 7! I enjoy coming here, staff is awesome and Dr Balsmeier is great!

Negative experience: KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE These people state that it's their "policy" to not have any parents go in the back with their underage children when doing procedures such as getting fillings. I did not feel comfortable letting my child go back there unattended, he's a minor. I had told the assistant that I wanted to be there when they do the procedure and of course she told me about their ridiculous "policy". My son wanted me in there and I wasn't going to let anyone stop me from supporting my child. However, when I went to the room the assistant immediately started hooking up child to receive gas and told me I had to leave. Then the dentist, Robert Balsmeier, came in and also tried kicking me out. I told him I didn't understand why I couldn't be there to watch over my child. He gave me a lame excuse of the children do better when the parents aren't in there. I continued to explain that my son wanted me there so I would like to stay. This man began to have an attitude towards me and said, "How would like it if I went to your job and watched you work" I replied with "That's irrelevant, if my son wants me here, I'm going to stay. And he's a minor and don't feel comfortable leaving him back here alone." The dentist replied with "It's not up to him, what he wants. I'm the one doing the procedure and it would be better if you weren't in here". This just made me feel extremely uneasy and made me cringe. He continued to tell me about my son's procedures that needed to be done but I continued to stand my ground. I made it clear I wasn't leaving my son back there alone, especially with him. He finished with "Well then you can get a second opinion, but-". I tuned him out as I watched him fling his glove across the room, almost hitting the assistant in the process as he threw his tantrum. Now that I think of it, there was a cancellation that same day and the office had called me to up the appointment. I'm sure it was a similar situation. Especially if it was the same dentist. The procedure was not completed there, and I ended up booking an appointment with Dental Depot the next day. They are so much more professional, and my kids love it! The best part about it, they had zero concerns or issue of me being there with my son. I had told them about our unfortunate experience with the previous dentist and they agreed that it was 'weird' the dentist didn't allow me to stay in the room while the procedure was being done. I have been taking my children to Dentist Depot since March 2024, and am extremely satisfied with everything. They even told me my son only had one cavity not two, how the previous dentist had reported. In my opinion Balsmeier should not be a pediatric dentist, he doesn't care about what's best for the child. He just cares about 'getting the job done', at any cost to the child. I also looked at previous reviews after these encounters. There was a mother who caught these people holding her daughter down as she screamed for her mother for help. This place seems to use UNETHICAL/ ILLEGAL methods to 'get the job done'. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same dentist as well. I would NOT recommend this dentistry to anyone!

Fantastic experience: I am so GRATEFUL that my child’s first experience with having general anesthesia was here at sun valley! They made everything run so smoothly. They were kind, professional, and amazingly patient with me and my little one. Thank you soooooooo much Ramona, Drs and staff

Fantastic experience: I brought my daughter for dental care and they were amazing they took her in right away and the young lady that took her back was so nice and explained the procedures that were done everytime . I took my daughter 4 times and she was always happy to go back . Recommend this dentist office.

Negative experience: My experience here was terrible the wait was beyond ridiculous. My appointment was at 9:40 arrived at 9 to fill out paper work as new patients. Did not get called to the back till after 10. Waiting for the dentist to see my kids x rays for about 20min. I asked how much longer said another 10 min I couldn’t do that so decided to just leave. didn’t get seen by primary .My whole visit was almost 3 hours . Use to go to a dentist up north with all my kids and they were great ! Very professional and on time . This place was definitely none of that . Worst experience ever

Fantastic experience: Omg this is a great dentist for kids I wish they'd accept me as a patient. The staff was sooo nice non judging like the others. The dentist was amazing. We will definitely be back so wonderful. Clean environment and they pay attention to your needs and the wealth of there patients. Love this place

Fantastic experience: For the past few years, I’ve been taking all my kids to this dentist office. The drs are amazing. Their ortho is great! Highly recommend it to anybody needing braces. They are great!!!!!! My kids are always happy!

Fantastic experience: It was my first time coming here and it won't be my last! My 4 year old is autistic and everyone in the office was more than patient and understanding. I would recommend anyone who is looking for a new dentist to check this one out!

Positive experience: The staff was super nice and caring and we intend to go back for this reason, however, the wait to be seen was over an hour after our scheduled time! This was our first visit so I am unsure if this is typical!

Fantastic experience: I was at the avondale location last week with my three boys and had a great visit but I had to go back this week and got there by lunch time i believe. My son's appointment was at 1pm and we were the second family in the waiting area. Soon after it got super busy and about three to four more families got there and were called before my son, we waited for about 45 minutes until I got up and asked what was going on. Afterward they called him in 5 minutes after. Other than that little awkward experience everything is good. My kids enjoy their dentist visita most of the time. The visits to the dentist are super fast lately, I have 5 children and they have all been coming here since my 12 year old boy was born. So around 11+ years with the same dentist and my kids usually have pretty good experience with Dr Carmichael is always super friendly and nice to the kids. Great and fast service on a last minute appointment for some loose teeth. My twin girls were happy throughout the entire visit to the dentist today. Thank you for being so patient and nice to my girls.

Fantastic experience: They got us in quick and all three at the same time. was in and out in the time frame I needed. And the doc was really cool. The ladies who did the cleanings and xrays were very friendly and down to business. I look forward to my kids next visit.

Negative experience: The front office lady w/ glasses is rude & disrespectful. Not a personable employee, considering your front desk and practically the face of the company, as the doctor who owns this location I would hope she would go above and beyond for their patients & parents considering my daughter had to get put to sleep by your medical practitioners.
