Today was the first time, ever in my 50 plus years of Dental work, that I was almost asleep through the needle pokes to numb the area of work!!! Negative experience: I am a new patient at Brookside dental. This was my second appointment. The first was great. The hygienist was extremely thorough and took her time and my teeth never felt so clean. My second appointment felt like a rush job and I was just cattle in line. Very disappointed may give them one more chance or may shop around.

Negative experience: YEARS of dental work to get my implant, and I paid extra to have special coloring done (out of pocket) I finally got my tooth and told them about my apprehension with the color and was told there was nothing they could do about it because it was the color of the post bleeding through. My crown is beautiful, but this implant color is not it. Disappointed, and still self conscious of my teeth.

Fantastic experience: After way too many years of neglecting my teeth, I decided to come into Birchstreet to start my path to better dental health, and I have to say I'm happy with my choice. Every single person in the office helped make my visit comfortable and explained the process all the way through, making it easy to understand and decide on a plan to move forward to better my health. Fantastic experience: We have been patients of the practice for over two years now after switching from a Traverse City based practice with retirement of our dentist and have not looked back since. We have been happy with the change overall but especially with the quality of the dental hygienists. We leave our appointments with the best cleanings we have ever had--and that is without seeing the same hygienist each visit. All hygienists practice at an exceptional level, provide education, suggestions to improve our home care and leave us feeling that we've been to a spa with our teeth whiter than we had imagined possible from a dental cleaning!

Fantastic experience: These people are so nice and helpful. I didn't even have an appointment. I came in with my wife on her appointment and told them about a problem I had with a loose filling on a front tooth. They went out of their way to help me. Their staff is about the friendliest I've experienced and the Dentist's were extremely helpful.

Negative experience: 250 for a cleaning, had to cancel due to unexpected issues. they charged me 50$ cancellation fee , after inquiring, told me they would take me to court if I don't pay cancellation fee. I have got my teeth cleaned before here and the service was good. This however left a bad taste in my mouth.

Positive experience: I developed lockjaw. I saw Dr. Jake Soenen for the extraction of a wisdom tooth that was through the gum - it had been for 35 years. My concern is that the dentist overdid the anesthesia, giving me 3 different types by shot, and multiple shots of each. As a result of so many pokes into the jaw muscle, it developed trismus (aka lockjaw). Almost 3 weeks later, while the extraction site is OK, I still can't open my jaw wide enough to eat normally. There is still swelling and pain in the jaw joint. Btw, my face had some numbness 7-8 hours after the procedure. If you see Dr. Jake for a major extraction, I'd suggest talking through the potential negative side effects. I called 5 days after the procedure to ask if what I was experiencing was normal. The dentist said it was. Finally, two days later, he saw me and diagnosed trismus. All the folks at BSD are nice - including Dr. Jake - I just had a less-than-perfect outcome.

Fantastic experience: I was confused when I checked in. Nobody greeted me. I had to figure out the self-check-in. Someone should greet you when you walk in. Other than that the hygienist was great and the doctor was also great.

Fantastic experience: Hygienist and dentist were fantastic. Explained everything well and were easygoing. My only critique is there was no one to direct you when entering the office. Just signs saying you MUST check in using the tablets. As a first time patient, it would’ve been nice to have someone able to field my questions. Thinking of my elderly parents, signing in with a tablet would be absolutely out of the question and an immediate deal breaker.

Positive experience: I thought the method of X-ray was quite painful. Whenever I have had X-rays in the past they used what felt like film imbedded in cardboard, which was not painful at all. Also, my cleaning seemed haphazard and after doing the polishing they weren’t able to floss because there was no waxed floss available and some of my teeth are pretty tight. I was happy with the crown work as much as was done at this time.

Fantastic experience: I called to request a consultation for a tooth that had been bothering me and I feared had become infected. They got me in the very next morning. My consultation was with Dr. Brown who confirmed the infection. Upon her recommendation that the tooth be pulled they got me in this afternoon for the extraction with Dr. Valencia. I am comfortable working with both of them again. Another good experience at Birch Street. Welcome Dr. Brown and Dr. Valencia!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Jake is awesome! He's kind and caring; checking in throughout the procedure to make sure that you're ok. He tells you what he's doing and what to expect. The whole team is terrific! I used to dread going to the dentist, but not anymore.

Negative experience: Was on where if you’ve had heart surgery that you couldn’t get dental work done for a while so I drove all the way out there and two hours of my time and a quarter tank of gas for nothing. Communication was a big thing didn’t know on my part can get told from the dentist people, but they’re good Dennis just if you’ve ever had any heart surgeries, get a hold of your dentist and let them know before scheduling any appointments is the waste of their time and waste of your time

Fantastic experience: After going to Birch Street Dental Care, I then realized that my OLD dentist was lacking so much enthusiasm , and his listening skills, AND he no longer was performing root Canals, he said 'HE JUST DIDN'T have the time', it was like he was trying to make the most money by preforming only procedures that have a faster turn over, sort of like a Buffet, heard them in heard them out. NOW at Birch Street Dental, they covered every nook and cranny, I was in the chair for around 1 hour 30 minutes , and they explained every single neglected issue, JUST LIKE Quality was their top Priority, and Birch Street explained every single One of my Options (from cheapest to Pricey) I didn't EVEN have to FISH for input options, AND I Liked that too! I love fishing, BUT NOT the kind of fishing my old Dentist made me work for !!! So Thank-You Birch Street Dental Care

I am not one to post nor talk about my own fearfulness towards things… however, Birch Strest Dental has made me capable of of going to the dentist without literally vomiting because of my fear of being there. The staff puts in above and beyond effort to make everyone feel welcome and unafraid.Doctors included. 100% worth the drive from surrounding areas of people in need of dental care!

Fantastic experience: I appreciate the dentists and their staff so much. A few years ago saved me when an abscess grew on the floor of my throat. First, they identified the problem and immediately tried to take action. Four ER visits, a doctor, and three dental appointments landed me in the hospital for 6 days. To my delight, they identified another infection during today's cleaning. So now I can work on it before it gets out of hand like it did the last time. I love their proactive health centered approach. They don't fool around. They see that their patients are well taken care of. My special thanks to all of them. I truly appreciate your caring nature.

My 5yr old had her first ever filling scheduled this morning. Dr. Valencia and Ann were awesome with informing her about tools, what they were doing and why… which helped her so much with her anxiety. She’s actually excited to go back!

Positive experience: Wonderful doctors however they need to have a better scheduling system. We’ve been canceled and rescheduled on multiples with no notice stating we did not confirm our appointments. I have text receipts showing all appointments were confirmed. This is super frustrating when you take off work/school just for it to have been canceled with no notification. If it happened once, okay, but this has happened 5 times to us in the last month.

Fantastic experience: This was my first visit to Birch Street Dental. After a decades long relationship with another out of area practice I was apprehensive about this new relationship. No need to be concerned. Everyone I met was friendly and professional. Taylen did a fantastic job on my dental exam and cleaning. I also found her very easy to relate to. I met Dr. Valencia today. She explained clearly her treatment recommendations and was up to date on my insurance coverage which made it easy to evaluate treatment options. I think this is going to work.

Fantastic experience: It was a good experience! I haven't been too a dentist in 15 years due too a horrible experiences and they did a very good job of keeping me calm and thoroughly explaining what was going on and the process too fix it.

Fantastic experience: I hadn't been to a dentist in over 5 years before going to Birch Street Dental Care. I was give a very comprehensive new patient exam. I was self conscious of the the coffee stains that had accumulated on my teeth and had a filling that needed to be replaced. Cheryl was able to remove the coffee stains and polish my teeth up beautifully. Then Dr Valencia replaced my filling without any pain and with efficiency. Thank for making my return to dental care a great experience!

Negative experience: It’s ALWAYS extremely difficult to schedule appointments and then it’s typically at least 6-8 months out. When checking out, make sure you schedule your next appointment, because they won’t automatically schedule you. We’ve also been waiting on our daughter’s referral to the oral surgeon. I’ve called 4 different times to verify that this has been done. Each time, they tell me it has, however, when I call the surgeon’s office, they inform me that they have not received it. We’ve been waiting for almost a year. It’s very frustrating to put your trust in this office. There aren’t many options in this area.

Fantastic experience: I was very pleased that my dentist was able to squeeze me in for an appointment within a few days because I was experiencing gum/tooth pain. She was very efficient and thoroughly explained my treatment options and prognosis. The practice is able to handle my root canal and subsequent crown in house. They also handled all the many insurance questions and paperwork. It is a pleasure dealing with the various team members.

Fantastic experience: Dentist and staff were wonderful warming and friendly explained step by step and got me in as a walk in while my child was being seen they were able to have us in rooms next to each other and was able to take care of my tooth the same day and very professional about it I will be recommending them to my family and friends! Negative experience: Birch Street Dental Care is a scam in every sense of the word. If you value your money and your sanity, stay as far away from this place as you can. I went in expecting straightforward, professional care and instead got dragged into a nightmare of deceitful billing, bogus charges, and endless excuses, all aimed at getting more money out of me even after I’d paid in full. After I made the payment they quoted—and two months after I’d completed my treatment—they suddenly claimed I had an “outstanding balance” when I went back to get my permanent crowns. This was despite them telling me at a midway check-up that my account was settled. When I pushed back, they doubled down, refusing to take responsibility and continuously insisting that I owed them more. They even went so far as to threaten legal action, an obvious intimidation tactic to bully me into paying for their own mistakes. It was only after I filed a complaint with the Attorney General that they finally took accountability for their incompetent billing department and dropped all the fraudulent claims. Even worse, this isn’t just a one-off bad experience. A look through other reviews reveals a disturbing pattern—patients being overcharged, surprised with hidden fees, and bullied when they try to dispute them. And let’s not forget, this is a sedation dentistry practice, supposedly specialized in treating anxious patients. Instead, they seem to exploit that vulnerability, knowing their patients are trusting and often looking for compassionate care. This isn’t a trustworthy practice—it’s an operation built on manipulation and scare tactics. If you don’t want to be lied to, overcharged, and bullied, avoid Birch Street Dental Care at all costs. This place is a disgrace to patient care.

Fantastic experience: I've been going to Birch Street Dental for over 30 years. I would not go any where else. Love the dentists and my hygienist. Now, with Dr. Jacob and his wife joining the group I know that my dental needs will be taken good care of for the rest of my life. Everyone that works there are exceptional.

She showed me some better teeth hygiene techniques to try at home! And she is both hilarious and so sweet! I was so excited to come back for my second appointment because she made the first experience so great! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a new dentist to try!

Fantastic experience: If I had one thing that I enjoyed most that I thought was worth mentioning it's the fact that they took the time to calmly discuss every aspect of my worries concerns or even things I heard from others or even just curious about I mean not Curt or concise they took just the right amount of time to set my mind at ease and give me the information to make me feel comfortable with moving forward which for me was huge kudos to them to be willing to take time to actually educate you enough that for me truly set my mind at ease and the whole office as well the dentist, reception..as well even worked at great length to help with money all of it a pleasant experience to be sure

Fantastic experience: We drive over 2 hours RT to go here for dental care. They are a family run practice. I'm a dental phobe. Making an appointment causes me panic. They offer nitrous oxcide even for cleanings! (Not that you'd need it. They're gentle!) Also, I have horrible teeth due to genetics and medication. They never judge. My treatment plan is always in my control. All staff is wonderful. Have used the gas all the way to IV sedation. All was great. All staff is helpful. Mary, (at the front desk), is the cream of the crop. Always happy, helpful, and consistently goes above and beyond. Ask for Mary and if it's possible she'll make it happen. Also, love that they'll bill multiple insurances. No insurance? They have a careplan package. Go here. You won't be sorry! I've recommended to many. Everyone that I have referred continues to go there.

Fantastic experience: I am one of those strange people who actually enjoys going to the dentist. I'm not really STRANGE, I just always feel so welcome and cared for by the top-notch staff and the doctors. Dr. Dan, whom I see the most, is always on top of new approaches in the dentist arena to provide the best practices for his patients. Dr. Jake and Dr. Cho are fabulous also and truly care about their patients. If you are looking for a practice to take care of your teeth, Birch Street Dental should be at the top of the list!
