Fantastic experience: I had an emergency and they were called at 8am on Monday morning and was in there office at 12:30pm the same day. We have already discussed other work on my teeth. I will be coming back to get that done in a few weeks.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Hanson and all the staff there (Ronda, Teresa, and tons more!) are TOP NOTCH. Dental work is not the most fun for sure, but these highly professional ladies make things as painless as possible. I just can't say enough good things about them. Book your appointment, stop putting it off.

Also they are very understanding and don’t tell you you need treatments that you don’t. They were my Invisalign dentists too. Dr Hansen is great! 6/2023 I always have a pleasant and pain free visit. People are friendly, listen, and don’t tell you you need something done that you really don’t. I’ve been going here since about 2013 and am very happy I found them. 7/2025 I always have a good experience at Sunrise Dental. They listen, take their time and explain everything you need to know.

Dr. Hanson is the one of the most caring, professionally compassionate, and exemplary dentist I've known in my many years of dental services. I've gone to many dentists over the years. However, since having Dr. Hanson as my dentist over the past fifteen (15) years, I owe having healthy and strong teeth and dental health to Dr. Hanson's expertise; cutting edge dental services; and, ongoing efforts to provide optimal and individualized dental care for her patients. This is extremely important to me at the age of 72.

We moved to Raleigh but I will keep driving the extra miles to see this team. Everyone is very nice but Rhonda is phenomenal! She is an amazing hygienist- quick, efficient, very knowledgeable. Positive experience: I've been coming to this location for several years for dental care. From cleanings to fillings, crowns, and even an extraction, I'd always had a positive experience. I stayed away for a year for my annual cleanings because of a very bad cleaning experience two years ago with a young man I'd not seen before. I never told the dentist because he was present when she checked on me. I really didn't want the health of my teeth to suffer because of it. I just found out that he's is no longer there, so I booked an appointment for a cleaning. I was so glad to have an excellent hygienist this time from beginning to end. The young lady who cleaned my teeth was kind, caring, and sensitive. Thankfully, skipping a year had no ill effects on my teeth either!

Fantastic experience: Rhonda the hygienist was exceptional. I can not remember a more pleasant cleaning. Miss Teresa(if I have her name correct), who escorts you to the back of office for your care gives VIP service. She's the best. Lauren and Dr. Azzu give the greatest care and they always keep what is best for the patient and that the patient is pleased.

Positive experience: *One month ago, February 10, 2025, I received an email that Sunrise Dental is transitioning to an out-of-network provider status. Keep that in mind for the services you need. I've had some negative dental experiences in the past, but Sunrise Dental - Durham has provided quality service and care.

Negative experience: I had an appointment scheduled at 8 am on a Monday morning that I made 6 months in advance. I received a call in the afternoon the Friday before my appointment while at work and wasn’t able to check my messages or call back until after the office had closed at 5 pm on Friday. In the message, I was told that the hygienist had an appointment and was asked to change my appointment time last minute to later in the day. The office was closed all weekend so I wasn’t able to get in touch with anyone before Monday. When Monday comes I call first thing in the morning and am told they are booked out two months for a similar time. I find it frustrating that I was told on such short notice and the office couldn’t accommodate something that was in their control to fix as they knew one of their hygienists would be out ahead of time. It feels as if the patients should work around their schedule when we have waited months for our appointment time and a suitable solution could have been found if we were notified with sufficient time.

Fantastic experience: Great experience at the Sunrise dental office in Durham, NC. Friendly staff, transparent pricing and my cleaning was great!

Fantastic experience: I want to give a shoutout to Lindsey Holt and Dr. Meriweather at your Durham location. Ms. Holt has gone above and beyond in keeping me apprised on where I was in the process, and moreover, has kept me positive throughout with her attentive bedside manner. For his part, Dr. Meriweather is clearly top in his class. He has been direct, made sure I understood what was being done at each step of the process and very importantly, has been kind. Again, thanks to them both for being true partners in health.

Negative experience: My family relocated recently to the Durham area and I needed a dentist who could repair bonded teeth, basically fillings on the front of my teeth that had worn down and are causing excruciating pain. My in-network dentist does not do bonding so I sought a provider who could, and would also submit to my insurance on my behalf, and then bill us after services, which is what our dentist in California did. Sunrise claimed to do this. So I went in for an estimate in November 2024. It is now over 3 months later. I have contacted Sunrise by email and phone at least 10 times asking for updates. My teeth are in pain. Not only have they not provided an estimate, but they claim it is now my responsibility to call my insurance company. I clarified before going to them that they provided this service and submitted on patients' behalves. (I did call Metlife and they say they never received anything from Sunrise over the last 3 months other than a reimbursement bill.) What is more, Sunrise is now trying to charge me $80 for services rendered during my visit to have an estimate, after billing my insurance, even though they have not provided the agreed service, which was just supposed to be an estimate to fix painful holes in my front teeth. They continue to send me this bill by text and USPS. I spoke 2 days in a row with a new front desk person who continually interrupted me. I reminded her that I have been in chronic pain due to my teeth for 3 months. She accused me of being rude and also implied that she added this to my chart. I really don't even know what to say. I have never encountered a medical operation with such poor procedural follow through, and a completely callous and unprofessional approach to patient pain and care. Update: A lady who appears to be involved in company management called me to try to help. She waived my $80 fee and promised to address the rudeness and insurance issues as soon as possible. Great customer care and goodwill re-established! But then all this new happiness disappeared because later the same day another woman (who appears to be the office manager) contacted me by email. She wrote that the insurance company had actually pre-authorized my treatment over 3 months ago. When I asked her why the office had not followed up with the insurance when they (they say) never received the pre-authorization for treatment--especially since I called a number of times asking for it--she said in writing that as she sees it, it was my fault for not following up with the insurance and also the insurance company's fault for not making sure their office had received the pre-authorization. I don't even know what to say here. Every doctor I have ever been to in my life tells me how much I owe after insurance coverage. No doctor has ever told me it's my responsibility to know all of their treatment codes and find out myself how much insurance will pay them. Moreover, I came into this place for an estimate after insurance. This is the service they offered. A day previously, she had said that I could go ahead and get the dental work without insurance. This is a bit insane because the reason I came in the 1st place was for an estimate after insurance coverage, which we already pay for because dental work is expensive. My family needs to budget for treatment costs. Honestly, the office staff of this company gives the impression that this company doesn't want to deal with patient insurance AT ALL, and so makes the process of filing extremely difficult for patients so maybe they forgo insurance. This extraordinarily upsetting and stressful experience has eclipsed the very pleasant experience I had with the actual dentist. I am hoping that the other nice lady calls me back.

Fantastic experience: I was very happy with Dr. Henson's replacement. He took time to address my concerns and explained about the problems with the tooth I was concerned with. No extraction at this time - yeah!!
