Winning Smiles - Amherst

Negative experience: The dental assistants at winning smiles are very kind but the care my children have received is boarding on malpractice. After getting canceled the first time for my oldest for a cavity fill due to there not being a doctor there was no appointment available for three months. By the time my son came in for his appointment, his tooth had decayed so badly that they pulled his tooth. The next time we came for a cleaning, they took x-rays of all my children’s teeth but there was not a doctor to review them. One of the techs said it looked like there may be a cavity in one of my son’s teeth but that a doctor will call for a following up. There was never a phone call until I followed up more than a month later and they said that he did have a cavity and he needed work. The final straw was when my oldest had never gotten a phone call about his X-ray and started complaining about his tooth hurting 6 months after. When I looked at his tooth, I could visibly see a hole in his tooth. I contacted another provider to look at his tooth because I couldn’t get in any earlier. When I had winning smiles email the X-rays over, the person in the phone said “is this in regards to the baby root canal?” which had never been communicated to me earlier. The new provider said his teeth were so bad that the X-rays indicated he needed a baby root canal at least 6months prior. I’m furious at the lack of care and attention my children have received and the lack of communication I have received. He now needs three crowns.

Negative experience: If you’re wondering what kind of PEDIATRIC DENTIST OFFICE doesn’t have a dentist in the office to help patients, even in a time of an emergency, it’s this one. Very disappointed and upset that while my son is having an emergency from an accident there is not one dentist in the office to see him. We’ve been going here since my son got his first tooth and we no longer will be. If you’re looking for an office that cares and can actually help you in your time of need, this isn’t it. I strongly urge you to build a relationship with a more reliable dentist office and skip this one entirely.

Fantastic experience: All four of my kids go here and every single time, the staff is welcoming, friendly, patient, and just truly enjoys my little ones, even when they are not behaving exactly the way I want them to. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. The best pediatric dental office in WNY. Why wonder I must schedule their cleanings six month in advance. Everyone wants to come here!!!

Negative experience: I am an existing patient and have made an appointment on their website multiple times for an adult cleaning and exam. Each time they called and left a voicemail to tell me they are not accepting new patients and are cancelling my appointment.

Fantastic experience: I have one of the best hygienists ever. Hannah at Winning Smiles Amherst is the most gentle hygienist I've ever been to. I have 2 children with high functioning Autism and they need a certain type of person to take care of them and they both love Hannah for her kind. Gentle and relatable personality. She's friendly, kind, and very much cares about each and every patient. If you are nervous about going to the dentist for your cleaning, ask for Hannah she's amazing

Negative experience: Place was great until I got older. I had an appointment where I had multiple cavities due to a illness that makes me vommit a lot. They announced all of my information infront of other patients in the room and shamed me for the cavities. I was BEYOND uncomfortable. Then when I had some of my cavities filled they filled the ones that WERE NOT causing me pain and left the painful ones alone. Meaning we paid for NO ACTUAL BENEFITS. While they were filling them they were insufficient with the numbing and I was in so much pain. I started crying from the pain and was immediately given an attitude by the staff working on me. I have been going here since I was 4 years old and watching how they have slowly started to not actually care about there patients is concerning. I will finally be switching dentistries not just for the benefit of my teeth,but the benefit of myself too.

Negative experience: My daughter was misgendered repeatedly and when my wife called to office to address it they totally dismissed the issue and redirected to the dental work asking if that was ok. Really? My daughter was traumatized by the experience in total. Very disrespectful, ignorant and unprofessional. Not gonna be going there anymore. If I could give ZERO stars I would.

Negative experience: Despite their advertisements and claims of treating everyone so wonderfully and making it a great experience, no matter your age, it would appear that that only applies if you are not a member of the LGBTQIA COMMUNITY. This is a warning for parents of children who are in the community or on the spectrum. The bedside manner is completely unacceptable. After misgendering my daughter multiple times during a visit recently my concerned call to the office was completely dismissive.

Negative experience: I used to love this practice however in the recent months the service at the Amherst location has significantly declined.

Fantastic experience: The dental hygienist, Sarah, was thorough but very gentle and did an amazing job cleaning my teeth! I was very pleased with my experience at Winning Smiles Amherst location!

Negative experience: My hygienist was great however he’s leaving at the end of the summer. It took me a year to get an appointment because they kept canceling it due to lack of staff. I only chose to go here because my daughter went here and then we were able to schedule our appointments together out of convenience. But they messed that up so now there’s really no purpose of going back. I’ll be finding another dentist.

Negative experience: My experience was bad ,very slow sat over and hour to be seen and was on time appointment was for 2:30 pm didn't get seen to almost 3:30 unacceptable for a dentist appointment!!! Not pleased!!

Fantastic experience: Amazing! My daughter loves coming here. All of the staff are super friendly, gentle and kind. The waiting room has toys and an awesome little movie room with books, as well as coloring sheets and crayons. My daughter always leaves with a balloon, a toy, and a rubber duck. She loves coming to the dentist.

My teeth cleaning was a surprisingly calm experience and I’m making sure she’s the assistant when it’s my wife turn! Second time at Winning Smiles and second time it was a 10/10 experience.

Fantastic experience: My 5 yo son needed fillings and winning smiles did a beautiful job. All of the staff and providers were friendly and fantastic with kids. My kids actually want to go to the dentist. I’m especially grateful for the dental assistants who went above and beyond with my kids to make it a great experience

Positive experience: I’ve been taking my kids here forever. It’s the only dentist they know for cleanings and braces. We always have a nice experience. The bad thing is the hours!!! This is Pediatric dentistry yet the main hours of operation are pretty much school hours. I had to reschedule a cleaning my son has in May and he’s being rescheduled for December because he can’t miss any more school. Hopefully the cancellation list works out. It would be great if there were a couple days a week that this location was open late. This has always been an issue here.

Fantastic experience: We have been coming to Winning Smiles for many years now for our four children and have always had a positive experience there. All of the staff are kind, friendly and accommodating. We have never had to wait more than maybe 10-15 minutes past our appointment time, until today. At first my child and I were getting a bit anxious as we waited for nearly an hour past our scheduled time. I will admit I was becoming a bit annoyed, but that was quickly turned around by the friendly staff and especially Dr. Annalise (apologies if that is misspelled). She was apologetic about the delay and very forthcoming about the circumstances, which as someone who works with young children, I can respect and empathize with. Every patient deserves the best care, especially when they are upset and having a meltdown during their services, and sometimes that takes up more time than was anticipated, causing delays. Any irritation I may have felt in initially waiting for a long time, quickly dissipated. This is how doctors should treat their patients-with great care and compassion. This doctor was very friendly and easy to talk to. Our family is happy to continue our care with Winning Smiles well into the future.

Fantastic experience: I had a dental procedure completed by Dr. Paul Jeon. Very happy with Dr. Jeon. No pain and he took the time to discuss his plans. The dental assistant was fantastic. She was constantly checking on my welfare making sure I was comfortable.

Fantastic experience: 2 1/2 and treated so expertly he declared, I want to see the dentist!" He was not disappointed. Winning Smiles lives up to their name. And again at 3 staff was amazing and he ran to the back in great anticipation to have his teeth "tickled" during cleaning. He loved every moment and went home with prizes and lots of wonderful care! At 4...was a pro and everyone with him made it fun, gave him choices and treats! A win-win!

Fantastic experience: We have a special needs son who requires patience and understanding for dental procedures. I can't praise Sally, the hygienist, enough for the awesome job she does cleaning Jeffrey's teeth! She always makes a special effort to keep him comfortable and happy. The staff and dentists are so kind and accommodating. It's an amazing practice! We saw Jazzae today for a check up and cleaning. She was very patient and considerate of our son's special needs and did a fantastic job of cleaning his teeth! A great visit! We saw Sarah today for a checkup and cleaning. She did an awesome job cleaning Jeff's teeth. He has cerebral palsy and can be uncooperative at times but he was great with her! Dr. Walker checked his teeth after she finished the cleaning and he was also very nice! I highly recommend Winning Smiles...very friendly staff and top notch dental care! Once again, Sarah cleaned our son's teeth today. It was a very pleasant visit and she did an amazing job with our special needs son. She is very patient and explains each step as she is cleaning his teeth. Thank you Sarah!

Negative experience: Very frustrated with the lack of customer service in the last 2 years. We have been taking our kids to Winning Smiles for many years. Lately, this office has consistently needed to reschedule routine check-ups for all 3 of our kids. This happens about a week prior to the appt. We book 6 months in advance only to be told the appointment time has to change. I can understand a 1- time occurrence but this is almost always. Then I am told the dentist will not be there at the time of the appointment and if there is a problem, our children will have to come back ANOTHER time. What is the point? Will be searching for a new office. I've had enough.

Fantastic experience: Great visit…had a teeth cleaning scheduled. Met the Dr as he checked on my teeth before the dental assistant began the procedure. Cleaning went well, no pain. Dental assistant was wonderful

Negative experience: Called one location for them to tell me they don’t accept Medicaid but said their other location did so I called them, but they couldn’t tell me if they accepted it… But still wanted me to schedule an appointment show up for the appointment and then they would let me know if they could accept it… what is wrong with people? How do you not know what type of insurance you accept? The location on Sheridan said they did And then I called the other location on transit and they said they didn’t know

Fantastic experience: My son is a patient at Winning Smiles in Amherst and he absolutely loves them. He is five and he’s gone there since he was two. He loves going. The staff is friendly and they even get a little prize at the end of a little coin machine!

Fantastic experience: The doctor and dental technician were so wonderful with my daughter when she needed a tooth pulled unexpectedly. We have been very happy with this dental office for many years.

Fantastic experience: My daughter injured her permanent tooth at school yesterday. We stopped by the office without an appointment. They were fully booked but they still checked on my daughter's tooth. The dentist carefully explained how to care for the injured tooth and the things to watch out for. They give my daughter a toy and they didn't even charge us for the visit. It was a very stressful day but that act of kindness definitely put a smile on my face. Thank you! ❤️

Fantastic experience: Our 19 month old's first appointment was fantastic. Cute little play area in the waiting room kept her happy and occupied prior to entering. Our tech was so friendly and welcoming and did a fabulous job of sharing what to expect with a crying toddler, spoke very clearly and positively over the wails so I could stay focused, and got us a balloon and a ducky when the scary part was finished! We were in and out so quickly and the whole experience was positive. I would have loved them to offer a slow minute to ask questions because my mind was all over the place, but they would have answered them had I asked anything.

Fantastic experience: Winning Smiles is full of lovely staff who always answer any questions I have! I have been attending this practice for years and would recommend it to anyone.

Negative experience: Went to my appointment with a dental plan that was clear and agreed on a month before the set day. Arrived, went back to the room and was being told I had to pay out of pocket to continue with the plan that was told to me it was covered a month prior! Told me we could change to an alternate plan that I told them in the beginning of this entire process I did not want to do and all they could tell me is that I received a phone call about all of this when in fact I did not. I told them I did not want to go the route they wanted so they wanted me to sign a “refusal for treatment paper” I do not recommend this office for anything.

Fantastic experience: My children have only been to Winning Smiles and we have never had a bad experience. The dental hygienist who has taken care of them is phenomenal! She is caring and so much fun.

Negative experience: I went in after losing my filling. I waited 40 minutes past my appointment time only for dentist to tell me I need a cavity fixed and tooth refilled but time was tight so I have to come back. I knew my tooth needed filled I lost my filling that’s why I made the appointment. Why is it my fault he was running behind. I’m annoyed that now I have to wait for a week and a half to go back and have done what I went today for.

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate the attention and thoughtfulness my son got today ! Everyone was so patient with him, took the time to explain what they were doing , and he was super excited to “earn” a coin and pick a prize at the end of his visit !

Negative experience: Been going here for about 5 years. Has always been great until recently. Received a text less than a week before my appointment saying my hygenist will be out that day and I need to call and reschedule (even though my past 3 appointments have been with 3 different hygenists). Not to mention, they called me a day before I received that text to confirm my appointment. Talk about disorganization. Anyways, I called to reschedule and was told they can’t get me in until June. I advised that would be a full year since my last cleaning, and the receptionist immediately became extremely rude and condescending. After reading other reviews, I see that I’m not the only one experiencing this, so I can’t fully blame the receptionist’s for her attitude problem, as she probably fields frustrated calls from patients all day. Either way, this is completely unacceptable and my entire family and I will be finding a new dentist. Do not go here. This place is on the decline and has completely lost the feel good attitude towards patients which was the main draw in the first place.

Negative experience: If possibly, I'd give no stars because new ownership is not customer/patient focused. We have been taking our kids to Winning Smiles for many years. When Dr. Mike and Dr. Levin were running things, they were GREAT. Sadly, in the past 2 years, they have consistently needed to reschedule routine check-ups for all 3 of our kids and it always happens roughly a week before the scheduled appointment. I receive a text telling me the hygienist will not in that day and I need to call to reschedule. When I call, they routinely tell me that the next available appointment is not for ANOTHER 6 MONTHS. I'm probably not the only person this happens to. I'm sorry, but that's simply poor customer service and its time to find a new Dentist for 3 kids.

Fantastic experience: My son had a filling treatment today at the dental office. Dr. Paul Jeon, the new dentist, mentioned that it might be painful after the anesthesia wore off because the cavity was quite deep. However, my son had no issues, and everything went smoothly. Dr. Jeon was very kind and explained everything in detail after the treatment. The staff were also amazing and very supportive. We had a great experience!

Fantastic experience: We always have a great experience here. I had to call and cancel my daughter’s appointment 2 days out, completely my fault, and they were able to get us in that day for a checkup. All the staff are extremely helpful and kind, my kids enjoy going to the dentist!

Fantastic experience: My 11 year-old has a fearful relationship with dentists. Including a filling with 5 shots in her mouth, two years ago. We're new transplants to the area, and this was our first visit. The hygienists' spoke quickly, to my child, was informative, and caring. Even when she let my child know she had a cavity, and a filling coming; my daughter only chuckled quietly "Noooo". She explained how they'd go through the the procedure, and my child is genuinely curious about how this is going to be an easier, more gentle operation. Wonderful experience, easily the best I've experienced as a parent of 5 children.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely love the Amherst location. Saw Dr. Walker today for a broken tooth and can't say enough wonderful things about him and the staff. Called 1st thing in the morning and had an appointment for 3:30.

I felt secure from the second I got in the chair through to the end of my visit. Incredibly time efficient, thank you so much guys, really!

Fantastic experience: When my usual Winning Smiles location on Linwood stopped accepting adults, I’ll be honest, I shopped around for a new dentist! I enjoy fully living in the city. But after a handful said they weren’t accepting new patients, I decided to just use WS amherst location - and I gotta say, I have not one bad thing to say. My hygienist and dentist were so pleasant to interact with & they both far exceeded in being both professional & personable. And I’ll also say the Linwood location, I received the same kind of treatment. Something about the company! I hope you have the same experience as me :)

Fantastic experience: I take my 3 year old here and now I come here and the staff is always so nice and work so hard to keep the younger kids happy and make sure the adult in the chair is comfortable too! 10/10 would recommend

Fantastic experience: From our initial contact on the phone, to being walked out the door after our visit, the entire staff here was so wonderful. We quickly grew to love our hygienist, Brecia. She was so patient and engaging with our toddlers first time at the dentist. Dr Walker was very friendly, and took his time with us. Can’t recommend this office enough. Thank you guys!!!

Fantastic experience: I recently visited Winning smiles for my kid. The doctors Walter and Nancy were too good. They were patient enough to answer all the questions and Nancy did an excellent job interacting with the child and getting things done.

Fantastic experience: We left a different practice in the area because we needed someone who could understand the needs my son has. Winning Smiles has been amazing. Everything from cleanings to fillings to orthodontics. They go above and beyond to make sure both my sons have a great experience. I highly recommend for anyone but if you have a child with anxiety, ADHD or dental trauma, consider Winning Smiles. You wont be disappointed.

Negative experience: I went to the Amherst location, and I do not recommend! I had an awesome experience at the Winning Smiles on Linwood last summer, but then they changed to pediatric only. I transferred to the Sheridan drive location a month ago, and was very dissatisfied with my care. All of the staff were super nice (which is why I’m rating them 2 stars instead of 1) but they were clearly overbooked and both the hygienist and the dentist rushed through and didn’t do very good work. The hygienist was very rough, and didn’t take the time to use the numbing gel like I received at the Linwood location. The dentist had a very hard time figuring out what to do about my particular dental issue, and seemed to be experimenting with different techniques, which was not at all reassuring. In the end, they did half of what I paid for, and I had the worst headache for 2 days afterward. The whole situation gave me a ton of anxiety, so I will definitely be switching dentists.

Fantastic experience: This place is fantastic. After four appointments and procedures I can say that not only is Dr. Walker a wizard from a technical standpoint, but it is his kind and caring character that separates him from any other dentist in my personal experience - of which I had quite a few of! Unlike my kids who go to this facility, I’ve put off finding a new dentist for a number of years since my visits in the past have always left me with embarrassment or guilt. Once I went to an office and the Dr. said to essentially come back when the kids are out of collage because incrementally fixing each of the problems in my mouth was effectively beneath him; only taking on the big jobs! I hesitated giving this office a try thinking it was primarily just for kids, but it turns out they work on the parents as well. When I came in and they looked at my mouth, there was no hemming and hawing and no discussion of numerous x-rays or a bunch of other things that would make it seem like they are getting ready to replace my entire jaw. No it was just “we are going to do this, this, this, and this - and in this order.” A few questions on my background and my dental history was met with just compassion and understanding. Frankly I think the doc looked in my mouth and based on experience already knew what was happening there. There is a lot more to my story and why finding a good dentist has meant so much to me, but I’ll just end on saying that it’s hard to find a great dentist, and they have at least one over at Winning Smiles. I’m sure they are all fantastic there because it takes a certain type of individual to work at a place with kids, but I can vouch of at least one for certain :)

Fantastic experience: Winning Smiles is the absolute BEST pediatric dentist around! We love the Amherst location and have had such a positive experience every single time we go. The hygienists are so friendly and really love making the kids feel comfortable

Fantastic experience: My son had accidentally chipped a tooth and it was quite noticeable. I called the office and was able to make an appointment fairly quickly. The doctor put my son at ease with humor saying this wasn’t the worse he’d seen. Several minutes later my son’s tooth was repaired and has beautiful smile again. Thank you Winning Smiles Amherst!

Fantastic experience: When I first arrived, I was great with a smile and friendly secretary. The dental hygienist was excellent. He was careful and gental working in my mouth. He was able to answer all my dental questions. Wonderful and warm atmosphere.

Loved the female Dr. , I was quite nervous & she and assistant put me as ease immediately!! My comfort was put for most & I’m not dreading my next appointment!!! Actually looking forward to it, And regaining the smile I have hidden for years!! I’m sorry I waited so long to go there.

Positive experience: It’s becoming more and more frustrating coming to Winning Smiles. We show up 20 minutes early for our appointment and 5-8 people come in after and get called back before us. Then the next appointment, we show up exactly at the time of our appointment and we still sit for 15 minutes. Also, you should probably advise your customers that there is a charge for fluoride , rather then asking if they want the treatment. Not sure if this is a code cover or not, but good customer service is to let your customers know there is a charge!

Negative experience: I don't think it's fair that every winning smiles is different as far as what insurance is accepted. In Amherst I have a $90 co-pay and in Buffalo a zero co-pay if I had the exact same procedure done there. SAME DENTIST! WTH!!!

Fantastic experience: Tahjeira was my hygienist. I apologize if I misspelled her name. Such a warm, gentle soul. Usually I am a little nervous. Soon as I walked in the room I wanted to fall asleep while she was cleaning my teeth. Beautiful work. Dentist is really great as well. Love this place. Good luck on your new adventure!!

The hygienist brought us back to a room fairly quick. Hygienist Nancy was very nice, explained what was going to happen and sang songs to my 2 year old while she brushed her teeth. The dr was very efficient, and seemed knowledgable about my daughter’s syndrome!

Fantastic experience: Our kids can’t wait to come to Winning Smiles! Everyone is so friendly and there are so many accommodations for the kids. From the toothpaste flavors to the goodie bags filled with new toothbrushes and toothpaste…it’s actually a fun even for the kids!

Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful experience! The women at the front desk were so sweet and very helpful! Brett helped me during my consultation. He was so kind and very helpful. Brett answered all of the questions I had, and helped explain the process I would be going through. Overall the experience was great, everybody was super kind and helpful and they all made me feel comfortable!

Fantastic experience: My daughter had her first consult for braces today. We worked with Brett for the consult and he was more then amazing. My daughter had anxiety about getting braces because at previous consults at other places she left feeling like having crooked teeth was somehow her fault. Brett made her feel comfortable and took her anxiety away. He made sure she knew she was in good hands at winning smile and alleviated her anxiety by answering all of our questions and making the whole process as easy to understand as possible. Fantastic experience: Tahara was so professional, gentle and kind. I get anxiety going to the dentist because I have had very poor experiences. Tahara made me feel welcomed and at ease. We talked like we have known each other for years. She is a gem. The dentist was funny as well. I met him one time before and he is always cool and personable.

Negative experience: If I vould give less than 1 star I would. The dentists and hygienist are all friendly and king. The office staff lacks compassion, kindness, and logic. I have been going here for over 10 years with my 4 kids. Up untill 3 years ago things were great. I started at the Sheridan office. Then they started canceling appointments because they didn't have a dentist. Then I went to the buffalo location. Took all 4 kids for cleanings to find out they didn't have a dentist on and was told I could bring them back to have their teeth checked! Because that's so easy to do with 4 kids. Been called the day before their appointment to be told there was nondentist on countless occasions.Then I showed up for their filling appointments which were already 3 months away from the cleanings to find out they canceled the appointment because I didn't respond "confirm" in a text.....even though I spoke to a human on the phone days prior! Today was the last straw. I called yesterday because my daughters tooth cracked and it's hurting her. They couldn't get her in until today at Sheridan. (Which buffalo office called for). Get to the appointment today and they took an xray and the dentist looked and said yes the tooth has to come out. I said ok and the dental assistant said "ok follow me to the front to schedule".....what? That's what I'm here for now as she is in pain. Their next opening was the first week of May. I asked them to check the other offices and they said "no we can't but you can call them"! Seriously? They are always billing incorrectly. They told me one of my kids was due for a pan xray and I said ok go ahead. She wasn't apparently and now I have to pay out of pocket for it. Overall terrible customer service. For a "pediatric" dentist they sure are not in the kid business! Dealing with kids means dealing with parents,families and caregivers so maybe treat them and their time with respect too! They expect 48 hours to cancel but don't even give that back to their patients time! Stop opening offices when you cant even keep the ones ypu have full staffed and accomodate the patients you already have. Finally switching dentists as it's been a nightmare!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Mike is such a kind and understanding dentist. He is so amazing with my girls but also with me, he understands that parents have anxiety associated with their kids. My daughter has severe special needs and he takes such good care of her. As an added bonus he has a great singing voice. We will continue with him as our dentist for as long as he'll have us!!

Fantastic experience: The dentists and hygienists are friendly, patient, and professional. They are knowledgeable and care about the patient’s understanding- walking the patient through the process at every step. The waiting area is kid friendly with a special play area. The receptionists are friendly and helpful and the wait time is minimal.

Fantastic experience: We absolutely LOVE Winning Smiles! They are great for our entire family! Shout out to Dr. Walker and Brett Deloach. Dr. Walker has helped me with perfecting my smile, is SO personable with my entire family and makes going to the dentist a really great experience. My 8 yr old daughter needed an ortho consult recently, and Brett was incredible with her, and with explaining the entire process. We love the staff there, and cannot say enough wonderful things about them! Highly Recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: The staff made sure to make my daughter feel comfortable while unexpectedly getting 4 teeth pulled. Highly recommend and will be switching my kids general dentistry to them ASAP!

Fantastic experience: Quick and easy. The staff was incredibly friendly with my kid who decided to invite herself behind the desks. It reduced my stress having the staff be so supportive and understanding of it being her first time and that they didn’t bat an eye at her crying and screaming.

Fantastic experience: I went to Winning Smile at Amherst location for Zoom whitening. Joseph was very patient and attentive. He took the time and went beyond to make sure I was comfortable, and also followed up with my home care bleach treatment. I am very happy with the results. Joseph was amazing! The staffs were very friendly too. I will definitely go back for other dental work in the future.

Fantastic experience: Myself and my kiddo goes here we love Dr. Ian. He is an amazing dentist. I had a root canal done with no issue, he made me feel so comfortable. My son does so well for the hygienist here. They are always friendly and playful.
