The assistants treat you with respect and friendly demeanor. The ladies at the desk ensure that your billing is fair and accurate. During my last visit they found my insurance had applied a wrong code, which saved me several hundred dollars. Blackman Dental is successful because they treat their patients as they would want to be treated.

Fantastic experience: Everyone here is so nice! Very little wait time, cleanings are thorough, and they don’t try to sell unnecessary treatment!

Negative experience: Front desk staff is rude. They make scheduling an appointment difficult at best when it’s being told to the patient that it’s a required procedure. If the procedure is that necessary how can the appointment be pushed for six months?

Fantastic experience: I just moved to Murfreesboro on Sunday and broke a crown on Monday. I left an email with Blackman Family Dental Monday Night and got a call early Tuesday morning that they could see me. I was so happy being new to town that they were willing to work me in. They also worked with my insurance company to offer me the best option to help me with the cost of a new crown. Thank you to everyone. The entire office staff were so very nice. Updated to add I broke another tooth just months later and again I got in the same day I called to start preparing for a new crown. Thanks Blackman Dental.

They listen to your concerns and address them fully without one bit of upselling or pressure to add services. I wanted to investigate an older root canal that had been performed elsewhere, and they were happy to examine it and gave honest feedback when others might have taken the opportunity to put me through a good deal of unnecessary rework. The environment is clean and welcoming, the technology is cutting edge, and I received an outstanding cleaning during my visit. I would definitely recommend you give them a try especially if you have experienced high pressure tactics in the past and are unsure of what procedures you may really need for optimum care.

Positive experience: I didn't have problems my first time going here but this time the dental hygienist who did my teeth cleaning wasn't very friendly and made me feel less than. From the moment I sat down, her tone was cold and condescending, making me feel anxious and uncomfortable. She spoke to me in a demeaning manner, which only heightened my anxiety throughout the appointment. Instead of offering guidance or reassurance, her approach felt judgmental and harsh. It’s unfortunate because I expected a professional and caring experience, but this visit left me feeling stressed and discouraged. The dentist herself was way more personable but I would not recommend the hygienist.

Negative experience: I would not been seen by this provider or office. They are very rude and not helpful. They also over charge and like to run test without getting approval from your insurance plan. They said it's not their job but they bill insurance but if not paid you are responsible. I have worked in headcase and we always get approval before any procedures are completed. They do not care about patient care. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Fantastic experience: I have failed to uphold the standards of dental care. Blackman Family Dental did and does not. I had a hole in my tooth and had pain. The team made me feel comfortable and presented me with all I needed to make a go forward decision. I was in need of a root canal and crown. They served me within the visit. Gave me a go forward plan. Experience was great!!!

Negative experience: Edit: We have changed this review from a 5 star to a 1 star. This business billed my elderly mother $50 dollars more a few months later because they didn't charge her enough. This sounds like a fishing scheme to get new customers in there at first, and then surprise them with a bill afterwards. This is extremely bad ethics, and with my mother being on a fixed income, we feel this was extremely misleading and just the "wrong thing to do". We hope them charging an additional $50 to an old lady who can't pay it was worth losing a first time customer. How shameful of a practice -------- Had to take mom to get a broken tooth pulled at a sudden moments notice. I called around 3 different places and got quotes from $525 to $750 or more. We found Blackman Family Dental here in Murfreesboro and with her insurance applied (which wasn't accepted hardly anywhere) they did it for $175, including the exam. They said their out of pocket cost was less than $300 too! They were so gentle and caring for my mother (82), and numbed her mouth very well. The exam and tooth extraction was less than 30 minutes total. Mom was so impressed she still hasn't stopped talking about their kindness. Wow! Thanks Blackman Family Dental for a great first impression!

She was absolutely fabulous!! If all dental appointments were like the one I experienced there would never be a stigma about going to the dentist!!

Negative experience: I received a text stating that my appointment for my cleaning was coming up. I called the office and spoke with a very sweet lady and told her that my doctor does not want me getting any x-rays done. She typed it out as we were on the phone and ensured me that it would not be a problem. I arrived on Tuesday for my cleaning appointment and the hygienist asked me about my health and that I would be taking x-rays, I told her no, and that I called about it and that my doctor does not want me having that done at this time. She goes and calls the dentist over and she said it had been too long so that x-rays would be needed. Since they did not take my word for it and of course, my body is my choice, they did not clean my teeth. I will NEVER go back to this dental office. It’s the dentist not a hospital, my health is my choice and if my doctor said no x-rays, they should have respected it without any reservations. They have lost a customer and I will not make any referrals for this company.

Fantastic experience: I was very impressed starting with me walking through the front door! I was welcomed by the receptionist who really made me feel that I made the right decision in choosing Blackman Dental. The check in process was seamless! Once I was called to the back I was even more impressed. The environment was clean and orderly. I sat in the chair and not only did I feel at peace I felt safe! I had my xrays done and everyone who I interacted with were kind and helped to relieve the anxiety that I usually get when going to the dentist. I knew my mouth needed tons of work as I neglected self (always taking care of everybody else first). They made me feel like it was okay and gave me a treatment plan that was attainable. My dentist Dr Adkins is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! She has a great chairside manner and Im excited to have her helping me on my journey of getting my mouth healthier than its ever been (even if it means getting a number of teeth pulled)! The examination nurse was fun to talk to and very reassuring to any doubts I had. The dentist was very warm and informative as well.

Negative experience: The hygienist was really rough with my daughter and insulting. We were looking for a new dentist and decided to try this one. We had to wait 4 months for the appt due to them not having any availability which was fine because that would put us only 1 month past the 6 month mark for her next cleaning . We have never had such a traumatic experience when getting a simple cleaning. My children go every 6 months for their cleanings and this hygienist was literally digging in my child's gums, she was bleeding and crying !!! The whole time she was cleaning her teeth she was also insulting them! I was in shock! The dentist came in and was kind, answered questions we had and explained the treatment plan but due to the terrible experience with the hygienist we will not be back.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience!! Friendly, competent and compassionate staff. A front tooth veneer popped off and I am no longer in the area where they were initially made and attached. Blackman Family Dentistry made time to fit me in the very next day! I cannot express enough how impressive they are. Would rate higher than 5 stars if that were an option!!

Negative experience: The ego and temperament on Dr. Atkins is a little out of control…Went to this dentist for a while after moving nearby, but quit going due to rushed work, very rough edges on fillings and not liking how they seated my crown (still get stuff stuck under it to this day). There was also a very “rushed” overall vibe when trying to speak to an actual dentist. Maybe they overbook themselves and are focused on high turnover, IDK... If you ask a question they are already one foot out the door and seem inconvenienced. I eventually landed at Legacy Dental across the street and they are wonderful.. Each person I’ve worked with was patient, kind and relaxed, but most importantly do top notch work.. They also cleaned up the rough filling work Blackman Family Dental had performed. (They were also professional to not bash them as I wasn’t either.) My current dentist, as well as, the one I tried prior both suggested I check with Blackman Family Dental on possibly correcting my current crown, so I made an appointment to ask about it and see what they thought.. I went in this morning and Dr Atkinson came in with such hostility right out of the gate. Blood pressure was definitely high and she was laughing at my questions literally.. I was quiet voiced and calm and not insulting. Her ego just couldn’t seem to handle the idea of anyone even remotely questioning her work. It’s just business. It was enough where in the middle I stopped and told her that I can’t help, but to send some hostility, in which she agreed that it was because of it being her work. I have to say that every single person at the front desk was kind and sweet, but just as I remembered from previous times, the dentist there really thinks he’s tough and you are just another obstacle for her to catch up and get done with her day.. GO TO LEGACY! You will NOT regret it lol.. I didn’t even realize the difference of having such a wonderful office. They make you feel like a friend right from the get-go and more importantly, their work is A plus.. I’m not sure what kind of response they will add to this, but they can’t deny that she even admitted that she was getting hostile with me and that is unprofessional and unacceptable.. I deserve an actual apology for how I was spoken to by Dr Atkins, but oh well.. (& this was audio recorded for my safety, as it is good to do when any potential for business disagreement).

Fantastic experience: Regina, Alysha, Emily and Dr. Atkins were AWESOME as always! Going through the lengthy process of having an implant, and Dr. Adkins and her team were wonderful from start to finish of this process. The absolute BEST in middle TN!

The staff makes you feel comfortable and calm. They even have t.v.'s in all procedure rooms. Fran Adkins DMD is the best wished I had her for a dentist when I was a growing up. Fantastic experience: I'm a caregiver for a person (Sam) with a sensory processing disorder. This dentistry is the only one we will ever go to for Sam! The receptionist listened intently and communicated to our team that Sam needed special attention, our hygienist Jalene acknowledged Sam's needs and explained everything that was going on. Dr. Atkins answered all our questions and accommodated well. Great bedside manners, great accomodations, and great communication! Sam can't wait to go back, thank you for a great experience!
