Children and Teen Dental of Alabama - Tuscaloosa (Rice Mine Rd.)

Negative experience: My first and last time going there. Rude staff and dentist. He don’t care about your pain and acts like your a problem. Needed a cavity filled and when he went to do it the, numbing meds were not working well and I could feel everything, he continued to drill when I was about to come out of the chair then he got mad that I was in bad pain saying rude comments. Never again and the filling was very bad and now it needs fixed but I’m scared to go to another dentist at this point after that.

Positive experience: Staff was not friendly, cheery & encouraging enough for toddlers so I was a little disappointed in that. Waited an hour and a half past appointment time to be seen while having to keep toddlers occupied. All of the exam chairs are in one big room so everyone can hear your conversation with the doctor and staff which I didn’t love. Wouldn’t recommend to family & friends for these reasons.

Fantastic experience: My children love Dr. Burgess and his staff! They always make my children feel calm and relaxed while they are getting work done on their teeth and they explain what’s going on while they are doing it so the kids know exactly what’s happening.

Fantastic experience: My son has sensory disorder. He has a hard time going to dentist. The sounds and tools make him shake and cry. We have been using this dentist for a while but our last visit was exceptional. The hygienist explained the whole procedure to him before. Even let him touch the tools and let him try it on her finger first. This comforted him enough to let her do her job. She was so patient and kind. This made our experience great.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love Dr Burgess and Simpson and their staff! All 4 of my children go there. My oldest is 22 years old. He started going there when he was 1 years old. They’ve always had patience with my children, give them the best dental care and advice. They don’t mind giving referrals to other Drs. My oldest suffered from TMJ so Dr Burgess referred him to a great Oral Surgeon in Hoover. I highly recommend taking your children there for their Dental Care ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic experience: Love Children and Teen Dental of Alabama. They have been an absolutely amazing with my little one. I especially love that I can go back and be present during treatment and procedures. They are gentle and explain everything to the children. It's a very calming Dental office. I love how it's decorated too. The ocean theme is so cool.

Negative experience: The assistants are wonderful, love love the assistant….but the doctor not so good dealing with smaller children!!!! They (he) got to aggressive with my daughter when she whimpered louder than he deemed necessary he put force on my child’s mouth and nose areas with his hand and talk aggressively towards her, saying (NO,WE ARE NOT GONNA DO THAT)

Fantastic experience: We have been visiting the Rice Mine location with Dr. Simpson for over 6 years with my oldest daughter, we now have our 2 year old under his care. He has always been phenomenal. Very detail oriented and has an attitude everytime that is pleasant and energetic. The staff is always on point. Informational, patient and welcoming. I recommend the doctor and this office.

Negative experience: Never again will we be back! Today I took my 5 year old in and told them up front that she has severe anxiety with her teeth. Not only did the hygienist talk rude to my child but Dr. Simpson was extremely rude to us. The hygienist said she had other kids to take care of to quit crying and sit down. When my child was scared he told her to sit down he wasn't going to talk to her head and don't ask anymore questions. Since she had 3 cavities he said its from diet not from not brushing. He continued to shame the both of us in front of all the other patients saying she has too much juice and gummy candies. Little did he know that bad dental genetics run on the other side of her family. Be warned if you have children with worries do NOT go here!!!

Negative experience: Brutish service. My child went in for a tooth filling and they completely butchered it. The filling almost immediately fell out after service and left my child with worse teeth sensitivity. The nurses are UNQUALIFIED and caused bleeding around the mouth.

Positive experience: The techs didn’t seem patient with my daughter. She is 4 and she doesn’t warm up to people quickly. Not to mention, she has only been to the dentist a handful of times in her young life. I would suggest being more empathetic when it comes to the babies.

Positive experience: Today was kind of different. The person who did my daughter’s cleaning was kind of rude. Usually they speak but today nobody spoke once we got to the back. My daughter sat down and the lady just laid her back and started working. She did not have any warning or anything. I noticed it but my daughter did too. As soon as we got in the car she said, “ that girl was rude. Maybe she was having a bad day.

Fantastic experience: Today was our first time seeing Dr. Simpson and he done a fantastic job on my sons reconstruction tooth. He was very detailed and told us his every move. Although we were concerned a work in, we didn’t have to wait over an hour. He was so nice!!

Negative experience: Not impressed, the facility is dirty. When you go back from the waiting room it’s just one big room so you’re in everyone’s business. There were about 6 hygienists just sitting around, and only one Dentist. The bench along the wall where everyone had to sit and wait was covered in old dirty stained carpet and the floors were filthy. We sat there for an hour (an hour after our appt time, plus the 20 minutes in the waiting room) watching the dentist go from one kid to another. We will not be back.

I took him in and explained the situation and the dentist got right to work. He prescribed meds for the swelling and had us come back to fix the damage. Positive experience: The staff and wait time are great. However, the doctor always seems so rushed when talking with parents. It's like "pulling teeth" to get a question in. He just talks and doesnt bother to ask if the parent has any questions or concerns. He seems impatient and irritated when asked a question.

Positive experience: Wasn’t a fan at all of the lady who cleaned my son’s teeth. In my house we don’t speak to him that way, he asked me on the way home if that lady hated him. Plus is always told he can get something from that little treasure box thing, yet he never gets to. It ends up a let down for my son, so just don’t tell them if they won’t get it

Negative experience: Dentist does not have a good understanding of autism nor have patience for children with Sensory issues. Double check insurance benefits and coverages before EVERY vist bc the office staff will not tell you they have dropped your insurance carrier until after services are provided and then demand payment.
