Negative experience: I initially purchased the annual in-house service plan at this dental office, which I was told would cover X-rays, two cleanings, and other basic dental services for the year. My first cleaning under this plan went smoothly, and I appreciated the convenience of having everything paid upfront. However, during my second cleaning, when I presented my dental insurance, I was surprised to learn that the office would only honor either the in-house plan or the insurance, not both. Once they entered my insurance information into their system, they informed me that I now owed additional money because my insurance only covers 60 percent. They refunded $44 based on what the first cleaning would have cost without the in-house plan but then charged me $91, no longer honoring the original plan I had paid for in full. While the dental care itself was professional and the staff were friendly, the billing practice and sudden change in honoring the prepaid plan felt unfair and confusing. I recommend future patients ask for clear, written details about how using insurance affects in-house plans before committing to payment.

Negative experience: Used to be a solid dentist. Recently they've gotten super busy and couldn't seem to care less about individual customers. Last offense for me was when they unilateraly canceled one of my appointments, less than a week before the date, and then proceeded to tell me their next available was 3 months out.

Fantastic experience: Very thorough and patient. I had an emergency they were able to fit me in for. Then the follow up visit was so great -- took the time to explain everything that needed to be done!

Fantastic experience: I had a crack in my molar and Dr. Javadi was able to get me in the next morning and did the temporary crown while I was there. She is great and calmed my nerves. 100% recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: 10/01/25 UPDATE A quick check up and a couple of X-rays. Gina was great as usual as was Dr. J. They got me ready for some periodontal work coming in a couple of weeks. Between Gina and Doctor) Jay, they both explained the upcoming procedures and what to expect. Like I said with RVD, dentistry is (almost), FUN! They’re the best, hands-down… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (6)

Previous review: I recently had my teeth cleaned by Katrina and I give her a 5 star rating! She was gentle, extremely thorough and gave me tips on how I can keep my teeth clean and healthy. We all probably get these tips from time to time, but Katrina added a few helpful hints that I had not heard before. Thanks, Katrina! I then saw Dr. J and she was very friendly and explained what she saw as she reviewed my teeth. I would not hesitate going back to these two professionals. Negative experience: River Valley Dental has good dental care for my 81 year old mother but their business practices are concerning. Per insurance explanation of benefits, River Valley Dental overcharged my mother $1600. We started the process to recoup the overpayment from River Valley in October 2024. The business office has refused to refund us despite having the explanation of benefits showing that the insurance paid when we had also paid. We sought an attorney however the attorney emphasized that we would be paying significant attorney fees and there is no guarantee that we could recoup the money that was owed even though there is wrong-doing by River Valley Dental's billing practices. I recommend that clients not pay up front and have them bill the insurance first; this way you are only paying what is owed. I hope others who have been wronged also post so that they have more honest billing and refund process. I suspect we are not the only ones.

Negative experience: Let me start off by saying I have been going to RVD for years so this review is not from a first time client and in office every 6 months for cleanings. I waited to see Dr. He was busy with another client but after waiting 20 mins. He was still with said client and I was told I really didn't need to see him since I saw him 6 months ago! Great no problem. Then I get to front desk when they tell me my insurance has rejected all claims from last 2 visits. So, in other words they let me generate another bill today knowing my insurance continues to deny the claims!!!! I know that my insurance is somewhat complicated but I should not be doing the billing departments job in getting the claims submitted correctly! This is the second time I have had to get on the phone with insurance to determine the problem. When it would be easier for a person in billing to talk directly to the insurance company! I will say my husband changed dentist and he uses the same insurance and has no billing issues! Dr. Hammontree you might want to re evaluate your billing company!

Fantastic experience: Dr J and the assistances were absolutely wondeful. They walked thru each step in exactly what they were doing as they did it. They listened to my concerns and made me very relaxed during the procedure. I give them a 10+ and highly recommend them. I have been spreading the word this is the dentist place to go~

Fantastic experience: Well of course most people don’t want to go to the dentist. I have been a dental nightmare. But I went and had my teeth cleaned by Julie she was very gentle and educational. They all work together Doctor Hammondtree was on the mountain so Doctor Meyers did my exam both excellent. But Julie the hygienist was the star,I know I made her run behind but she didn’t sweat it! New patients need X-rays and all kinds of charting. I know this because my wife is a 30 year retired dental hygienist. Oh the stories if people only know how hard this job is!

Negative experience: I started seeing Dr. Hodges in Red Bank in 1990's and then Dr Hammontree bought his practice. I was pleased with the care from Dr. Hodges and his staff and Dr Hammontree and staff continued excellent care for a couple of years after the office was moved to the Northshore area and became River Valley Dentistry. I was mostly pleased with with the care I got from River Valley Dentistry. My spouse also received care during those years. Without informing me River Valley Dentistry stopped my care from my original dentist. Then when I ask reschedule an appointment with 24 hour notice I was informed that I would have to pay $50 because they required 48 hrs notice. I had not been informed of that change and I stated that to the office. But that didn't make any difference. They still wanted me to pay $50 to reschedule the appointment! That was the treatment that I received from them after 30 years of business with them. So I said goodbye, permanently! Judith Dennison

The entire staff was friendly and helpful. I could not have been happier. This is for a repeat visit, cleaning and check up exam, including x-rays. I am totally satisfied with the entire visit. Dr. Javadi explains everything clearly and answers my questions. Totally satisfied.

He’s done crowns and a bridge for me, and every visit has been smooth, and as painless as it could be. They always explain everything in detail, so you never feel confused or rushed. Plus, the office is spotless and has a very calming atmosphere. I always feel like I’m in good hands here. If you’re looking for a dentist who actually cares and delivers top-notch work, River Valley Dentistry is the place. I’d recommend them to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Dentist appointments being what they are I view them as a necessity to get in and out with as little turmoil as possible every 6 months or so. Having lived all around the world with exposure to “international” vs “foreign” alternatives as well as being seen in multiple states I do have a variety of experiences that do not meet that standard. The 6 + years at River Valley does meet that standard. Not only is it a seamless experience the personnel there provide a welcoming and friendly environment. My hygienist, Devin, is a delight to communicate with throughout my exam and care experience. No pain ever; vs a certain German hygienist that must have trained directly under Dr. Mengele! 5 Stars!

Fantastic experience: I decided upon this office for a specific reason! It was not the modern office, the dentists, or the up to date technology. As a matter of fact, I contemplated about 2 other dentist office that was much closer to where I live. The only reason I came to this office was because of a dental hygienist that works at this office, Devan Casseday. I also contemplated on whether I wanted her to clean my teeth especially since she is my daughter in law. I went in thinking that the hygienist from my former dentist office had done a great job on my teeth. I was wrong! This office has some pretty cool technology: most offices do panorama x-rays and mouth x-rays, but this office also takes pictures of the front and back of each individual tooth also. This is to get a closer look of any situation. Now to Devan: dental hygienist sit in the driver's seat of dental prevention. She has detailed oral hygiene instructions and guidance like no other. She relentlessly made sure that my teeth and gums were to her satisfactory level of expertise. She made sure that all plague was gone and my comfort level was remarkable! If Devan had been my hygienist all these years and I had went back to my old office for a cleaning, not only would I be disappointed, somebody would be fired for poor cleanings. Thanks again Devan for educating me, making me feel comfortable, and giving me a much cleaner smile! River Valley, I hope you realize that Devan is a top notch employee!!

Fantastic experience: I went to the one in Chattanooga for my chipped tooth. I called and got to go in the same day! The staff and Dentist who fixed my tooth were super kind and welcoming. The male Dentist did a great job on my tooth filling. I went on and made a cleaning appointment with them. I highly recommend River Valley.

Fantastic experience: I like many other people have dental anxiety so I have put off going to the dentist for over 2-3 years, a friend of my husband’s recommended river valley dentistry. My first appointment was yesterday and I had all sorts of x-rays and scans to see what needed to be done for my teeth. Unfortunately I have a long road to go with getting my teeth healthy again but I feel excited and felt at ease with Dr. J and Devan. I am going back later this month to have my first round of cleaning done, I am nervous but feel like I will be in great hands.

Fantastic experience: I was treated with kindness and respect. I am in a wheelchair & they helped me into the chair and listened to the problems I was having. They laid out the options for me. All the personnel was very kind and helpful.

Negative experience: The hygienist was good, but my experience with the doctor was not. The procedure I had done there should have been done by an oral surgeon, not the dentist. No antibiotics and no sutures. It was a horrible experience. I had complications and not one phone call to see how I was doing. And they quoted me over $25,000 worth of dental work they say I needed. Worst experience I have ever had at a dentist office. I do not recommend and I will never go back.

Negative experience: Years long customer. Getting worse as they grow. No availability trying to reschedule an appointment for the end of the month until the end of May. Told them I would make the original appointment work and they rescheduled for May anyway. Won't answer the phone. "Text our office number." That's what I was doing. Oh, and their negligence lead me to being marked as periodontal. Fired.

Fantastic experience: Thankful for River Valley Dentistry! They got my son in who had a dental emergency that is away at college in Chattanooga! They now will be his full time dental provider moving forward. They had top tier customer service! Fit him in that day, sent all paperwork quickly electronically, and took care of the emergency dental procedure along with a a great cleaning. The office and booking staff were awesome!

Fantastic experience: Like most people I hate going to the dentist. My visits to River Valley Dentistry have been good. Everyone is very nice. They really help reduce my anxiety. When they recommend dental work they explain why and listen to any questions or concerns you may have. They also helped me maximize my dental insurance benefits. We prioritized work, so when we used up my 2024 benefits the other work could wait until my benefits reset in 2025. I am happy with River Valley Dentistry and plan to use them from now on.

Fantastic experience: I am in-between dentists (my regular DDS recently retired) and found myself having a dental emergency. River Valley worked me in within 30 minutes of my phone call. The office staff (and Dr. J) were all incredibly friendly and informative which helped put my anxiety at ease. I believe I’ve found a replacement for my ongoing dental care needs.

Fantastic experience: Me and my husband have been coming here for a few months now. They are the best dentists we've been to. Their prices are reasonable, they talk you through EVERYTHING and they are super transparent and educational. My husband panics over his dentist appointments and they make sure he feels comfortable and relaxed. They set a treatment plan with you, and work with you on payment plans and insurance. Just communicate with them and they will do their best to help. Staff is very friendly and the place is sanitized and clean.

Fantastic experience: My dentist of 32yrs retired. Although Medicare dental leaves you with limited options, I am so thankful River Dental was one of them. Lily and Dr. Meyers saw what I needed, and immediately took care of my pain! Lily even went above & beyond to find me an endodontist & the cost. They treated me with kindness and care, constantly asking if I was ok. I will definitely tell other of Lily & Dr Meyers! Thank you guys!

Negative experience: Very disappointed with them. I requested a retainer last year from them and was told it can last at least 5 years. This is also all the info I can find online about retainers. The retainer I received only lasted one year and when I called their office. They said they will check with the manufacturer and get back to me but they never did. When I followed up on this case, they simply said it’s out of warranty and I needed to go to their dentist again to get a new one. My retainer costs $500 a pair and I would expect them to last a lot longer. The explanation that I received is that it can vary people by people and this is an exceptional situation. They can’t do anything as this is from their manufacturer. Their response is kinda just brush it off and wanted to get me a new pair without guarantee how long it can last. I have no reason to trust them again and very disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Devin and the entire team at River Valley Dentistry are absolutely amazing.. it took me years to find a dentist in Chattanooga that I liked, and boyyyy did I find a good one. They're super kind and great to work with, they explain everything and show you what all is going on with your teeth/gums and set you up with a plan to improve your oral hygiene. Best of all.. I've never felt judged or uncomfortable there. Go see em!

Fantastic experience: I had a great visit today. Averee and Dr H. took great care of me. She did x-rays, and I had to have a child size appliance, since my mouth is so small! I got a good cleaning, fluoride treatment, and a teeth whitening system from them. They are all friendly, and very professional too. The lobby atmosphere, and background music are awesome!!!

Negative experience: My wife just had her filling fall out over the weekend after having pain for three months, and after doctor Connie Chamberlains multiple attempts of shotty work, I was further upset with Cade at the front desk who proceeded to tell me that they would book another provider but charge me for it. Otherwise my wife would have to wait ANOTHER MONTH to get an EMERGENCY filling. These people don't deserve a 4.9. This is the worst experience we've ever had with a dentist bar none.

Fantastic experience: Always a good experience with River valley! The front office staff is very friendly and welcoming. All the staff are just wonderful! I never felt so relaxed and happy to go to the dentist!! They make teeth cleaning fun! I never leave confused, the make sure you understand everything going on and they even give details about a dental plan to keep your teeth healthy! Such a great place!

Fantastic experience: I'm just so impressed with everyone at River Valley, and the office as well. This is the nicest dental office I've ever visited. My procedure went super! Dr. Austin was fantastic to work with and his assistants are spectacular. The ladies up front are so personable and nice. It is so nice to find a place I can trust for outstanding dental care. Fantastic experience: We have always had a great experience with both our dentist Dr. Chamberlain and our dental hygienist Kim. Dr. Chamberlain has a great approach to all her patients and makes you feel very comfortable with any procedure she performs. Dr. chamberlain is very knowledgeable and up to date on the latest procedures. Kim, our hygienist, is the best in Chattanooga as far as we are concerned. She is extremely knowledgeable about dental care, conscientious, and takes special care to understand each patient's needs. She knows each patient and stays up to date on all her patients' individual issues. You are not just a number or a paycheck to both Dr. Chamberlain and Kim her dental hygienist.

Fantastic experience: I had an extraction at the Chattanooga office and Dr Hammontree and his staff were amazing!!! I always have anxiety about dental visits from childhood issues, but River Valley Dentistry has ALWAYS put those anxieties to rest. My procedure was pain-free. I was finished in no time.

Fantastic experience: I have had Kim cleaning my teeth for years and she has alway been friendly, knowledgeable, and just a nice person to be holding a pointed object inside my mouth. I would recommend the whole gang; they are nice to work with.

Fantastic experience: I've had nothing but positive experiences every time I visit. The front desk is great about helping me figure out insurance and all. That's huge. Dr. J is so patient in explaining anything you want to know. I really appreciate the attention to detail and truely customized care plans provided. Having the plan and cost estimates before showing up for the procedure really gives me peace of mind financially. I am extremely satisfied with River Valley and the dental professionals there!

Fantastic experience: Comfortable and clean. It didn't feel like I was at a dentist office. Kim, the RDH, was phenomenal. She was always checking in with me, talking with me and explained everything and answered all of my questions. I don't trust dentists (or hair stylists) easily, so it took me awhile to find one. So, glad I found this one. If you're sketched out by dentists or have a feat of them, definitely go to River Valley.

Fantastic experience: This is my first visit to River Valley. Just moved to Chattanooga from Atlanta and needed to find a dentist. River Valley is very conveniently located and everyone was super polite and helpful. Very happy with my decision!

Fantastic experience: I wanted to post about a wonderful experience I had at River Valley Dentistry. I was in Chattanooga for a couple of months and had a filling break/fall out leaving a cracked and partially missing tooth. Being from out of town, I wanted to address the problem before going home to see my regular dentist. I made several calls to offices that took my insurance (United Healthcare) and everyone told me I’d need to wait several weeks to get in as I was not an existing patient. Fortunately I came across River Valley Dentistry. They got me in the next day for an exam. Everyone there was beyond polite and professional from the front desk, to the hygienist, and the dentist Dr J. While everyone I dealt with there was great, I’d like to say an extra thank you to Faith, Gina, Paige and Dr. J. for their fantastic care and friendliness. I wound up needing a crown an they were able to expedite the procedure due to my temporary stay in Chattanooga. They had the crown made and in place in less than 2 weeks. It was simple, quick, virtually painless and a completely professional level of care all around. I highly recommend River Valley Dentistry for your future dental care needs. They are absolutely awesome and if they weren’t so far away from my home town, they would definitely be my permanent dental provider. They are simply the best! Thank you~Chris

Fantastic experience: Kim has been my hygienist for years! I absolutely love her ! She is the best! All the ladies at the front desk are super friendly and helpful. Going to the dentist isn’t always pleasant, but River Valley Dentistry make you as comfortable as possible.

Fantastic experience: I don’t think I’ve ever left a dentist appointment in a better mood than I came in with. I was nervous to do the deep cleaning necessary after skipping out on regular cleanings during graduate school and COVID, but this was a breeze. I hate that I don’t remember the name of the woman who did my cleaning because she was great! She checked in about comfort throughout and did the job quickly. I’ll be back for my regular cleanings from now on!

Fantastic experience: Best dentistry I’ve been to! My hygienist was funny, great with my daughter, and did the best cleaning I’ve ever had to my teeth! My Dr was great and Everyone was very polite and professional! My wife and daughter are going here also, we definitely recommend this place to anyone needing dental work!

Fantastic experience: The staff got me in right away. I called at 11 and my first time appointment was at 2. I arrived and everyone was so friendly and helpful. I didn’t even sit down and got called back. Dr. Breton was wonderful. She explained everything and helped me with my tooth. I go back in two weeks for a crown. I recommend this office to everyone.

Fantastic experience: My experience with River Valley Dentistry has been pretty great. I am 31 years old and I hadn't been to the dentist since I was 15. They addressed my issues very quickly, and Dr. J was very informative about the issues my open bite has caused and referred me to both an orthodontist and a peridontist to get the rest of my dental needs taken care of. I had four cavities filled and a crown put on. My only issues were that I definitely had my temporary crown on for too long. (almost a month) before my appointment for my porcelain crown. The wait was worth it though, my tooth looks incredible and doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. Dr. j and her assistant Faith were both quick and accurate on everything, always asking if I was comfortable. The only thing I didn't like were the constant text messages asking to make a payment after arrangements had already been made. Other than that, I love this place and the laid back professional atmosphere it offers. I will be back as long as they are in business.

Fantastic experience: Having gone to other dentist in the Chattanooga region I was really starting to loose faith that there was a good place to be found here, but River Valley Dentistry was every bit as lovely as the others were awful. Not only where the kind, considerate, and deeply patient with me, but they also seemed to care more about my discomfort and pain during my surgery than even I did. When they learned how uncomfortable the sounds of the surgery were going to leave me they worked with me to come up with a system that would allow me to blare music into headphones to drown it out. This feels like the obvious choice should I have any more dental work done in the future.

Fantastic experience: The whole staff is just cool! I love every single one of them and words honestly can’t describe the happy and positive atmosphere that they have created in a dental office. It’s almost enough to want cavities so I can see them more often!!
