Negative experience: I regret going here, my eating is now painful. My two crowns are too big and I can't even eat a room temperature salad without agony. The same day crowns was appealing to me, but now I realize, you get crowns that are not a good fit.

All procedure done under sedation with no pain or noise. Will try to come routinely again since it was a very positive experience.

Positive experience: Very nice office and is state of the art rooms and equipment. The staff is very pleasant starting with the front desk lady who is so pleasant and informative. They do have a program to help reduce costs and provide 2 cleanings and X-rays for a year plus 10% off on additional work. It’s a bit pricy but helps a great deal and is not family prorated, so by individual only. I found their pricing a bit steep for crowns, but not exorbitant either. Overall a good office!

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love going to the dentist! Not many people can say that but Northside makes my dentist visits easy and enjoyable! The staff and hygienists made me feel welcome and I felt assured that I was getting the best treatment available in Crossville. Everyone from the reception desk to my dental hygienists were cheerful and friendly. It was a wonderful experience!

Negative experience: As I walked into NorthSide Family Dentistry for the first time my initial thought was that the place had some class but it lacked the most important thing spirit and it didn’t feel welcoming. Still I must credit them as it seems to me they possibly had the most modern technology I’ve personally seen in a dentist’s office, and the staff involved with cleaning my teeth was kind to me. I confess, that I had recommended a family member that is very dear to my heart and now as I write this I deeply regret having recommended NorthSide Family Dentistry to them. The truth is looking back on my first visit and my family member’s first visit who I recommended go there; Being compelled to give a more honest review for you the reader after having had time to reflect on our experience with NorthSide Family Dentistry, I would tell you neither of us will be back. Now anyone reading this deserves a reason why that is. The most fair explanation I think I can give you is that they failed to live up to the standards of our previous dentist who had retired. We didn’t feel like family there, they failed to earn our trust and it was made clear to us that unlike our last dentist who loved teeth, had a passion for what he done and a gift with an open faith to comfort those who desperately needs it under certain circumstances, my honest opinion is that I believe NorthSide Family Dentistry is more interested in installing artificial smiles when given the opportunity as apposed to preserving the God given natural smiles God blessed us with on our way into this world. Our last dentist believed in preserving our God given natural teeth whenever possible and removing them only as a last resort and he believed in helping us preserve that endeavor, so we will be looking for a dentistry that can more closely fill those shoes. Negative experience: I received a flyer in the mail about implants so I scheduled an appointment at this office. The staff was very professional and polite and I felt like the appropriate scans, x-rays, etc were done . I was told they would consult with another dentist and get back to me to schedule the work. I was quoted a price and was pleased overall. 2 weeks passed and I never heard a word on scheduling the work so I called and was told they were still consulting with a dentist in Cookeville about my dental plan and would contact me soon. Well, called twice and got the run around so I went to a dentist in Dalton, Georgia and have happily completed the first 2 steps for my implants. I was so disappointed in this office . They weren't rude, didn't take my money unethically- they just never gave me the time of day and continued to put me off. Very disappointed!

Fantastic experience: It's always been a great experience when dealing with Northside Family Dentistry. You're treated like family the minute you walk in the door & are greeted by Hailey, all through your procedure, even the phone call check ups a day or two after your visit. Like I said treated less like a patient & more like family.

Fantastic experience: Very nice office with modern equipment and friendly & professional staff. I've only had a couple basic checkups and cleanings, nothing more interesting, so my comments are based on that. I can't speak to their costs because there's no good way to compare costs for basic dental services. They do insist on payment at the time of service, but they will submit your bill to your insurance company for processing, which is helpful. Then you'll be reimbursed for whatever your insurance covers, which will not be what the office charges. But that's common pretty much everywhere. Overall, it seems a very efficiently run operation and I have my 3rd appointment in 6 months, so I'll be back.

Fantastic experience: This place was a God-send, in the most literal way. My wife and I were in the midst of a 26-hour road trip when my tooth began aching in a horrible fashion 9 hours from home. We picked a random hotel to stay at the night before because I just couldn’t be in the car anymore with the pain level I was experiencing. At 6:30 in the morning we showed up on their porch and the staff not only let us in, and worked us into their scheduled right away, but they were so kind to my wife & I in our exhausted and overwhelmed situation. I left with relief from my pain and so much gratitude in my heart. My wife asked many questions on my behalf as we weighed our options regarding how to handle this tooth situation, and the hygienist was so thorough & patient in her answers. If I lived in the area, I would be back!! You can tell when a man has integrity and I felt that from Dr. Shanks. Thank you to all of the staff for the way you truly cared for my wife and I, and my dental emergency, yesterday. We made it home safely to NC late last night and we want you all to know that you’re so appreciated! From Hayley, at the front desk so kindly welcoming my wife (who was in tears just wanting to find me help) to the hygienist and the Dr, all around wonderful experience!! Positive experience: The EXPERIENCE here WAS amazing, but when my $1500 dental work broke a week and a half later, they wouldn’t even look at it without charging me full price for a new exam, I realized a great experience meant very little. So now I can only chew on one side without pain and it has been this way since August of 2022. They don’t stand behind their work when it breaks, and unless you have extra money to throw around, you’re just out of luck. I do not recommend this place to anyone who is not wealthy. They just seem to be about dazzling you with a fancy experience to make you think they are exceptionally competent and caring.

Just recently, I needed to have a crown checked out that was installed a month earlier. I called the office and had an appointment a couple of hours later. Happy customer once again!!! Fantastic experience: My husband always says, "Quality does not come cheap", and he's correct. While you may be able to find a cheaper dentist, you will NOT find a better one! I had a dental emergency the first year we were trying to settle in this area and Northside Dentistry was able to assist me immediately. I have been going there for routine cleanings every since, but just recently had to have a crown installed. This was, by far, the best experience I have ever had while getting a crown. They prepped the tooth and installed it all in one day, thereby eliminating the need for a temporary and a return visit. In addition, it fit perfectly! This is the first time I have had a crown installed and I don't feel the need to go back and have my bite readjusted. It feels wonderful! Dr. Shanks has a caring, sympathetic manner and his staff is top notch! My sincerest thanks go out to him, Mollie, Halley, Peggy, and the rest of his staff.

Today I worked with Peggy for the first time and got a great cleaning, also some tips to help with some gum sensitivity. Fantastic experience: When calling to schedule the appointment as a new patient for myself and family, it was very easy. They were very friendly and very upfront about how things run with insurance. Day of appointment, it was my son's first visit to the dentist and literally everyone in there made sure he was comfortable and having a good time. They were quick to address my concerns about a few teeth and explain everything to me. They kept us updated about everything as they were working on me and my husband at the same time in different rooms. They interacted with my son as they were checking my teeth on one side and he was on the other (he now wants to be a dentist). When it was his turn for the chair, after spending time with everyone, he wasn't nervous and there were no tears. Christina, who cleaned his teeth, did an awesome job explaining everything to him, letting him feel things out and made it a fun time for him to the point that he's still talking about his dentist trip the following day. He is much more interested in brushing his teeth now and wants to make sure we get all the sugar bugs out so he can show her next time that he doesn't have any in there. We will forever be patients here

Negative experience: My recent visit went well. I had a routine cleaning with the dental hygienist who did an amazing job of making me feel comfortable during the process. After completing my cleaning, she informed they were no longer in network with my insurance. This should have been disclosed prior to the service provided. No one addressed insurance upon my arrival to the office. They need to address this prior to service. I paid for my cleaning out of pocket even though I have insurance. This is the reason for 2 stars.

Fantastic experience: I’m traveling from out of state and staying in the area for a few weeks. I broke a lower front crown over the weekend and when I called Monday morning, they were able to get me in on Wednesday. This office has the most up to date technology and they were able to make a new permanent crown and have me fixed and out the door in under two hours! Amazing staff, friendly and personable, and very skilled at everything they did to process and cement my new tooth. Amazing to say the least… If I lived in the area, Northside Family Dentistry would be my new dentist!

Having had trouble finding quality dental care in the past as I moved around the country, I was and am overjoyed to have found the practice of Northside Family Dentistry. In a very short time, I was deeply impressed with the talents and techniques of Dr. Shanks. He stays right at the cutting edge of new equipment and treatments. Today was no surprise as he quickly evaluated my needs from a damaged molar crown, offered a solution, and then upon my approval, he, assisted by three very competant employees, completed putting that solution into action and satisfactory completion. Fantastic experience: Very interesting. I’ve been at practices that have state of the art equipment, but they had some I had never seen before. The hygienists, dentists & staff are quite cordial & make you feel at home.

Fantastic experience: I am 5 star impressed and so thankful for Christina, my dental hygienist, for taking the time to question why my gums were so inflamed as they have been for years! She took the time to investigate the symptoms I had versus blood pressure medication I have taken for 20+ years and she found the solution!! I contacted my physician and had the medication changed within days and had immediate results of no more bleeding gums within days! I’ve moved many times, had different hygienist and it took Christina and staff to figure out the issue. I have never been SO IMPRESSED!!!

Negative experience: Worst experience in billing in a dental office EVER! They said they had to have payment up front for all services even when I had dental insurance, said they would submit the charges to my insurance and I would be reimbursed. I have called to asked them several times if they billed this. Never got a straight answer. They talked me in to the CareCredit saying the insurance funds could pay it back and I did it because I was in so much pain. I truly think at this point they are involved in insurance fraud as my insurance was billed yet I didn’t receive the money back to my care credit. Absolutely the worst decision to go here.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience! The staff are amazing! Everyone was courteous and professional, especially Christina. Her demeanor is very welcoming and she is very professional and courteous explaining all the details of my dental issues. She made me want to come back again. All of their dental equipment is very up to date and high tech!!

Fantastic experience: Since I moved to Crossville from Texas, I have been going to Northside. Dr. Shanks and his staff are wonderful. The office is nice and clean. Yesterday I had my teeth cleaned by Peggy. She is great! Very professional and gentle. Hubby doesn't mind going with me because they have super fast wi-fi.

Fantastic experience: I had an emergency and they got me straight in and next thing I knew I was out of pain and not to mention IV sedation is your best friend. Everyone was very nice including the Cookeville office. Huge shoutout to Mollie Strong and the office manager (I didn't get her name) for working after hours to get my medicine sent in to another pharmacy d/t my normal one being out of the medication. Thank You all!!!

Fantastic experience: Dr Shanks and all his staff at Northside and Golden Oak in Cookeville are great, they are very professional but are very comforting while you are in the chair or have questions. I am having several appointments and I have seen Dr Shanks Ms. Peggy,Dr Chitwood and Dr Fain I have been treated with great care. Found a new way to care for my teeth.

Positive experience: I am giving a three star, only for friendliness. I have dentures with implants. Three of them were able to spin around. I called for an appointment. It was not an emergency. She didn't do anything except tell me to come back when they fell out or she could drill a small hole and try to get them out I said I would wait. They charged me $111.00 for an emergency visit. It wasn't a emergency nor did I say it was. I feel that this was a outrageous charge, when nothing was done. $111.00 for me to sit in the chair is crazy.

Negative experience: Dr. Shanks offices are the “State of the Art” for all dental procedures in Cumberland county. All of his work is top quality with the best processes, procedures, and materials. It’s too bad that rarely do you actually get to see Dr. Shanks but rather one of his technicians or associates. The preventive maintenance and office staff are excellent. It has become increasingly difficult to get procedures done correctly and in a timely manner. Popularity has its price and now personal service has been reduced to the equivalence of the lines at Starbucks. You get to wait in line and something will be wrong with your order. This is the modern version of too many cooks spoiling the stew.

Fantastic experience: Sounds odd to say but it’s always a pleasure seeing my girls and Dr Shanks! Christina gave me an amazing cleaning and checkup and I love that the entire staff is constantly learning all the newest techniques! Everyone is so pleasant and accommodating! So happy that Cookeville is able to share the treasure of Crossville, TN!

Positive experience: Expensive, but very thorough and helpful. I was disappointed that my first appointment was only a check up. I assumed it included the cleaning. Now I have to go back. At the very least it should be noted on the website to call to get both in your first appointment. But like I said, good. I finally made it back for my cleaning. Peggy does an excellent job all the way around. Now that I am on their yearly plan, it's not near as expensive, so I highly recommend them.

Negative experience: I would not recommend. They fit me in quickly with the emergency I had but then they charged me an outrageous fee and the dentist himself was very uncaring, unprofessional, and could not numb me at all but continued to do the work anyways. I have never had such a terrible dental experience, I was in pain for the entire appointment and in pain for days after. Before this I never minded a dental visit but now I have anxiety over going for a simple cleaning.

Fantastic experience: I went for my first appt yesterday and was scared to death because of my bad experiences I've had in the past so I didn't know what to think but after going there and speaking with them I must say they made me cry because they were so so nice to me and made me feel like a human being and not just a number. Fantastic experience: I had a great 6 month cleaning visit and then they found that I had a cracked molar. The dentist was able to extract it the same day and was very thorough explaining what had to be done. They made sure I understood my options as to the result I was seeking. When I finally decided I was going to go ahead and do what I had wanted to do for most of my life, which is be able to smile without being self conscious, I searched for the perfect dentist and hoped I had found the right one to help me on my journey. They put your worries at ease and make your dental experience a great one - which I've not had before. And Christina is THE BEST!!!

Negative experience: I feel like I wasted my time and money.. Waited an hour, all for my exam to be rushed. I got charged emergency visit, even though nothing was resolved outside of quoting me prices for extraction (could of done that on the phone). Was told it would be $450 next visit for first time patient exam, and then I had to go back in to get my prescription, the only thing that was beneficial in the 3 hour experience (drive time). Hardly was treated or perceived as an emergency

Fantastic experience: My husband and I left a wonderful dental practice in Michigan when we moved to Tennessee recently. We were apprehensive, to say the least, trying to find a new dentist in this area. How fortunate we were to schedule with Northside Family Dentistry! Peggy, the hygienist, was so friendly and professional. Dr. Shanks was very welcoming and knowledgeable. The front desk staff was very kind. So glad to have found our new dental home! We would highly recommend this practice. (FYI, I had 30 years of experience as an oral surgeon's assistant prior to retiring!)
