Negative experience: Overall, my experience felt more transactional than health focused. Pros: - Advanced technology and nice facility - Very thorough teeth cleaning and explanation from dental hygienist Cons: - Credit card % fee added to bill (luckily I had my debit but this is the first time I've seen this in dental/medical setting) - Need to prepay patient portion before they will put you on the schedule for a follow up appointment - Recommended mouth guard was $500 but came up as $700 on statement during checkout, I decided not to order mouth guard through this office I was left having to pay a balance for my first appointment/initial cleaning because of charges for new x-rays even though I stated that I already took x-rays this year at my previous dentist and asked if I can send them over.

Negative experience: I called today as a new patient, and as I start talking, the front desk hung up on me twice and then didn't pick up the phone at all. So disrespectful! I guess I'll take my business somewhere else.

Negative experience: I had an unfortunate experience at First Dental and I’m hoping my feedback can help influence their practices moving forward. I was recommended to come here from my partner. I have a lot of anxiety around going to the dentist and she said they were excellent so I thought I’d give them a try. I had a new patient appointment for a teeth cleaning scheduled at 3:30pm. I got there early to fill out my paperwork and I was taken back pretty quickly! Tanya was my hygienist and she was very kind. She took her time explaining to me how the appointment was going to go, what scans/xrays they would do for my first appointment etc. She told me it was her first month out of school and, to be clear, I am not questioning her skill! She was very knowledgeable and nice. I do however think that as a newer hygienist she might go a little slower than someone more experienced. An hour minutes has gone by and I still hadn’t seen Dr. Feng, who is the reason I came to first dental per my partners recommendation. Tanya and I sat there together in my exam room waiting and she said we were just waiting for the dentist to be available. She went to check for him multiple times and said he was with other patients. I was confused- was I not on his schedule? Did we miss our opportunity to meet with him because the beginning of the appointment took so long? After 30 minutes of waiting, Tanya ended up finding another doctor to come look over my images and go over a potential treatment plan. The other doctor came in and was so quick to rattle off what I needed and seemed impatient when I was asking about the cost. They said I needed a more in-depth cleaning because of the redness around my gums which I expected honestly because I hadn’t been to the dentist in a year or two. It’s 5:15 at this point and the doctor says “well it’s 5 now so let me see if we can still do the cleaning”. I was like excuse me? She walks out of the room and when she comes back she walks up to me in the am chair, pats me on the shoulder, and says in this voice you would use to speak to a toddler “we close at 5 so we’re not going to be able to do the cleaning today okay? I’m sorry”. It was so condescending and I felt SO tossed aside. I said “seriously?” And she said “yeah because we close at 5 and it’s already 5:15, and we want to make sure we have time to number your gums enough before the cleaning”. I asked “did something take longer than it should have? Because I was supposed to have a cleaning today and it’s extremely hard for me to schedule appointments like this with my work schedule” she repeated the point about wanting to be able to numb my gums and said sorry again and left the room. I was on the verge of tears at this point. They brought me to their scheduling person who was very nice, but there wasn’t another appointment at 4 until October 23. Also- they wanted me to pay for my next appointment (the cleaning I was supposed to get that day) before booking the appointment. I did get emotional a little bit because I told the scheduling person how I worked so hard to make this appointment work in the first place and it’s so disappointing that I didn’t even get a cleaning or seen by Dr. Feng. Overall, niceness does not equal efficiency or quality of care. If a new patient appointment has the potential to take an hour and half just for the intro examination alone, don’t schedule those appointments at 3:30. This is a scheduling miss, and a huge miss for quality of patient care. I left feeling ignored and not a priority, and I won’t be coming back after having my time wasted in such an egregious manner.

Fantastic experience: Everyone that works here is so kind. They do whatever they can to make you feel comfortable for any procedure (of which I’ve had many). I’ve recommended this office to all of my friends!

Fantastic experience: Just had my appointment with Dr. Michael Nguyen for a root canal and he’s the best ever! I’ve always hated going to the dentist and had that fear for a long time but my experience at First Dental was amazing. Everyone from check in to check out was super nice. Dr. Nguyen was patient, nonjudgmental and so efficient and thorough. I’ll be back for all my dental care! Not to mention, their facilities are phenomenal- super clean and gorgeous. 10/10.

Negative experience: DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE DENTAL ANXIETY!!!! They claim to be an anti-anxiety person focused practice but all they want is as much money out of you as they can.

Fantastic experience: I do not normally leave reviews but I just had my first appointment here today and had a lovely experience! I had a bit of anxiety from my previous dentist as I felt like they told me to get treatments I didn't need and were not upfront about costs. Erica was my hygienist and was very transparent with me about what I really needed, why I needed it, as well as about cost. She also gave me a few tips/recommendations on how to improve my oral health moving forward. Dr. Vicky was also nice, knowledgeable and efficient. I felt like my care was thorough, honest, and the office of course was a beautiful place to be cared for! I was able to get X-rays, cleaning, and a laser treatment in the same day.

Fantastic experience: The staff is very friendly and quick to respond. Dr. Feng was very helpful explaining the process when I had a tooth extracted, and having any fillings done is always fast and painless.

Fantastic experience: Staff here was amazing. Had some issues with the online form which was a bit frustrating, but everyone in this place was extremely kind and gentle with me & the communication was something I haven't seen elsewhere. I'm normally terrified of the dentist, but I quickly felt at ease here. From the doctors to the assistants, everyone here seems dedicated to making sure dental visits are a positive experience. I was in a ton of pain, extremely tired, and honestly just in a horrible mood when I walked in, but Dr. Quach(I believe) was very helpful in helping me understanding my issue and making a plan to resolve it. Hours later, I'm already starting to feel a lot better. I was honestly a little confused on why I couldn't just do my wisdom teeth extractions here as I saw that was offered on the website, but I assume that was due to the nature of my teeth. The yearly membership plan seems worth it, and I will likely be back to discuss invisalign options in the future and meet Lila :)

Fantastic experience: Dr. Vicki made my experience calm & amazing and she was so personable. It's been well over 10 years since my last dental appointment, due to extreme fear and anxiety. The atmosphere itself was amazing- modern, zen and open. I highly recommend this office for anyone looking for a new dentist. *Edited. I was clearly still on the sedation meds when I wrote this the first time, but thats how excited I was to share my experience. The writer in me could not let that review stay up though. Haha!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Feng is the most amazing and multitalented dentist ever. He does everything including crowns and implants. He was so responsive to my dental emergency, and so kind and welcoming. I had never seen him before and I cracked three teeth when my usual dentist was out of town. Dr. Feng was fully booked when I called but took me in anyway and he and Laura (also the best ever) worked from 5 PM when they usually close until 7 PM FRIDAY NIGHT to fix the worst tooth, and then scheduled me right away for Monday to fix the other two. Obviously Dr Feng is now my new dentist. I'm just going to add to this review it's about a year and a half later, and inlay another dentist had put on a few years before popped off--so another emergency. They were closed that day, but I texted I got in at 12:30, was seen, and Dr Feng figured out what needed to be done. I came back at 2 PM and had a perfectly fitting state of the art zirconium crown when I walked out the door at 4:10. Remember when getting a crown used to be a multi visit miserable process? Not anymore if you go to Dr Feng! Here I am again with more to review. That all happened A few years ago. And I am still seeing Dr Feng. He has done more great work on my teeth and is keeping them in good shape. Everyone who works in his office is a really good and skillful person. Also, he has a membership system, which makes major work cheaper and includes all cleaning and x-rays. I got my teeth cleaned today with Erica, who Is very knowledgeable and skillful. And they have the latest equipment, including a spray unit that is like a tiny power washer for your teeth. I wish I had one at home.

Fantastic experience: Dr.Feng and the whole gang are incredible. They take detailed notes and always seem to be up to date on latest practices. I have had a lot of subpar experiences with dentists in the past and I have always recommended First Dental. Even though I have moved neighborhoods it is worth the drive and I have also gotten at least 3 other friends to come here. Absolutely recommend!

Fantastic experience: 1st time patient and definitely returning. Erica had a terrific bedside manner making sure I understood exactly what she was doing as she cleaned my teeth. Dr. Nguyen was informative and explained why I needed fillings. Best of all, there was no pressure to get anything done. Thank you Erica and Dr. Nguyen!

Fantastic experience: We were impressed from the moment we stepped in the office. The staff was friendly and welcoming and the service was amazing. Dr Feng has great bed-side manor! We have a new dental office!

Negative experience: The staff were all extremely helpful, friendly and professional, and the office environment was warm and inviting. However, I experienced some fairly alarming issues related to the prescriptions I received from Dr. Nguyen. I was first seen by Dr. Heng, who examined the tooth that was causing an issue, and ordered additional imaging. I was experiencing a fever related to the toothache, and was in a fair amount of discomfort. I explained to Dr. Heng and the nurse present that I have rheumatoid arthritis, so fevers are often really intense for me. On my intake paperwork, I filled out that I am allergic to Amoxicillin. I mentioned this again at check-in, and again to Dr. Heng and the nurse. After the additional images were taken, Dr. Nguyen entered the room and started asking me the same questions Dr. Heng had just asked. I assumed Dr. Nguyen was just taking over so Dr. Heng could visit another patient, up until Dr. Nguyen ordered the same imaging that had just been done by Dr. Heng. He then let me know that he actually didn't know Dr. Heng had been in to see me yet, and that he'd be right back. He and Dr. Heng then both came back into the room together and explained they wouldn't be able to treat my case, and referred me to an endodontist. I asked for an antibiotic to start in the meantime, to help alleviate the fever and swelling. Dr. Nguyen handed me a prescription and I left the office - when I got about halfway home, I realized the prescription was for amoxicillin, which I'd repeatedly written and vocalized that I am allergic to. I went back to the office and asked for another antibiotic, instead. Dr. Nguyen then wrote a prescription for ciproflaxicin, which is not a safe antibiotic for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. At the end of the day, I gave up and decided to visit another dentist the next day. Anything relating to prescribing medications really needs a higher level of attention to detail than was shown here.

Fantastic experience: I had such an amazing experience here today! From beginning to end, staff were incredibly kind, patient, and made me so comfortable in an environment that usually makes me a nervous mess. Dr. Feng, Erica, Lauren, and everyone else were absolutely incredible. Thank you so much, everyone! :)

Positive experience: Very kind and professional staff, very clean and tech savvy office, if you’re willing to pay for it. Prepare to spend a lot of money, I’m sure the quality of treatment is outstanding, but I don’t fall under that tax bracket.

The dentists, dental assistants and hygienists all make your visit comfortable as can be (hello, lavender scented neck pillow!) I’m starting my Invisalign journey with First Dental Center and I’m excited for the outcome. I couldn’t recommend them enough!!

Such amazing, professional and cheerful people. I was very anxious about my procedures because it was my first time at any dental clinic. The doctor kept checking with me throughout the procedures to see if I was comfortable or in pain. She explained everything that she was doing and we kept joking throughout which honestly was such a stress buster. I really had an amazing time and I enjoyed the procedures, which I know may sound weird. I was really anxious thinking about how sore my mouth was going to be after a back-to-back subgingival cleaning and a cavity filling. It was really chill and everyone is really amazing. Thank you so much.

Fantastic experience: First Dental Center is family friendly, professional, and genuinely makes dental visits more enjoyable. On a recent visit, I opted for the Icon procedure to help with white blemishes I have had on my front teeth since childhood. Dr Feng suggested the procedure to me a few years back, when I told him I was self conscious about the prominent white patches on my teeth. He didn’t push the intervention very hard, but rather encouraged that I consider the non-invasive procedure. He knew I was a bit nervous about changing my teeth. When I arrived for my appointment, Dr Feng and his team made me feel comfortable right away. Small touches made the dental intervention personalized and somehow enjoyable. My elementary-aged kids were able to stay in the room and the team explained each intervention step along the way. The procedure was painless and I was done in about half an hour. I did not experience any sensitivity afterwards, but I also did not eat or drink anything for about 3 hours. The change in the white patches was immediately evident. I felt more confident in my smile right away. Thank you First Dental Center!

Fantastic experience: Love First Dental! Switched here after previous dental experiences elsewhere weren’t ideal. They took my pain and sensitivity seriously, and it makes a huge difference if sensitive teeth make you nervous to visit.

Positive experience: I used to love this dentist and they did a great job cleaning my teeth in 2024. I went in today for my first cleaning of 2025 and their financing plan went up by $100. It increased by 33% in one year! No one even informed me of the increase and planned to have me pay 33% more on the spot. This increase is not justified and I won’t be returning. Edited: I appreciate the way that Dr. Feng and his team handled this and that they took my review seriously.

Fantastic experience: I appreciate greatly that Dr Feng and Dr. Nguyen are concerned about my long term health of my gums as well as my teeth. The cleanings performed by them and by their assistants are always thorough and not rushed, and my gum health is much better than before they started treating me.

Positive experience: Came here as a new patient for an exam & cleaning. The office was very clean and modern. The cleaning/exam itself was really good, the hygienist did a great job of showing and explaining things. Unfortunately, I ended up getting a bill for ~$100 after insurance because they did full mouth xrays and a pano xray during my visit when my plan covers either an FMX or a Pano once every 3 years. I didn't have any complaints or pain so getting both did seem like overkill. I would recommend double checking your insurance plan yourself before coming here and potentially refusing one of those xrays if your plan has similar terms. Other than that I would highly recommend.

Negative experience: I’ve visited this clinic twice. The first was a for a cleaning, and it was fine, though they did try to schedule me for some cosmetic procedures I didn’t need. I just cancelled the appointments after. My second visit went horribly. I had an outbreak of canker sores all over the underside of my tongue and I wanted to get an Rx for dexamethasone. The dentist tells me to stick my tongue out and starts putting stuff on it without telling me what it is or asking for my consent or anything. I had to ask twice before he actually told me what he put on. The first answer was “medicine.” We finish and they say it’s $200. I ask if they ran it though my insurance and they said it’s not covered by insurance. Turns out bc it’s NOT FDA APPROVED. I am horribly disturbed and disgusted by how inappropriate this encounter was. This clinic is not transparent, and I felt like I got scammed. I would not have consented to the treatment if I knew that it wasn’t FDA approved and if I knew of the cost. Additionally, he went on a rant about eastern medicine and how it’s better. And that he might be a “western” doctor but he really believes in Chinese medicine. Be incredibly vigilant if you go here.

They made me feel comfortable and the cleaning and treatment was painless. I feel like a million bucks after that and value them tremendously. Most recently, my husband had his cleaning done by Nicole and Crystal who did an excellent job—thorough and professional. I’ve also been treated by both Dr. Winston Feng and Dr. Frank Feng. They have been instrumental in helping relieve my pain. Their expertise and care are truly commendable. I would especially like to recognize Dr. Winston Feng for his compassion and attentiveness. He takes the time to listen and genuinely cares about his patients’ well-being. I was particularly touched when he followed up with me personally to ensure I was feeling better. I worked with Erica today who helped me find out where I needed to brush the most and helped me find products to get around my permanent retainers! They took a 3D scan of my mouth and Dr Feng also got me a guard to help with my teeth and migraines. Very affordable if you don't have dental insurance. Thanks so much!

They have all the latest and greatest bells and whistles used to treat oral health. I was a nervous Nelly during my visit. Fantastic experience: First Dental Center is amazing. They’re incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and you are their very first(!) priority. Their waiting room is comfortable. The staff do their best to accommodate you. I’m normally very tense during dental appointments after an unfortunate history, and their friendliness still surprises me. It was a huge relief when I needed an emergency root canal a year prior, and stumbled into First Dental Center. I’ve been impressed since. I don’t feel nearly as nervous when they thoughtfully explain every step of their process. Incredible staff, incredible work, incredible therapy dog Lila!

Procedure was better felt very comfortable with my dentist (who name I can’t remember unfortunately), my questions were answered and everything was explained. So overall great experience would recommend this place and looking forward to going back one day but hopefully not for any bad reason lol

Fantastic experience: Yo, if you're lookin' for a solid dentist in Uptown, First Dental Center's the move. I went in for a cleaning and a filling—total came to about $250. The staff was mad chill, and they made sure I was comfortable the whole time. They even got a lavender-scented neck pillow to help you relax. Negative experience: I had an extremely disappointing experience with this dental office. A crown was placed on my tooth last year, but it caused mild and persistent sensitivity almost immediately after it was placed. I couldn’t even touch it with my tongue without sharp discomfort, and the crown itself always felt weak. Two weeks later, I called the doctor to explain the situation and was told it was normal and that it would go away. Unfortunately, it never completely did, and one year later, the pain became unbearable. I visited the office for a follow-up, expecting them to address the issue since the receptionist mentioned the crown was still under "their one-year warranty. Instead, the dentist simply told me I needed a root canal—something he should have addressed during my first visit. Then, he walked me to his financial plan advisor, who presented me with an estimate of over $1,400 for the procedure. Feeling ignored and undervalued as a patient, I left in pain, and without pursuing further care. Today, another dentist confirmed that the crown had been improperly placed on top of the nerve, causing the pain and ultimately requiring a root canal, and no wonder I was in pain. This entire situation has caused me significant financial strain, drained my savings, and left me deeply frustrated and disappointed with the lack of care and responsibility shown by this dental office.

Fantastic experience: Listen…when I tell yall this the BEST experience I've had with a dentist EVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE YALL IM SO SERIOUS! Great experience from start to end and I drove 1 1/2 and they had me in and out but the quality didn't lack one bit! Nervous? Fantastic experience: From the moment I walked in to the fresh and immaculate dental offices, the warm greeting at reception including the Dentist himself, I knew I had found the environment my troubled mouth and sad teeth had been looking for! I was not disappointed as I will be here quite a bit in the coming months. Of course it goes without saying that Lila the little friend of a pooch who wanders in and out to lend her support is the icing on the proverbial cake. So glad I found this gem.

Fantastic experience: Since January, I had learned to just live with the oral pain that I have had. Anyway, I scheduled a dental appointment, which I had in February. That appointment was to make an assessment and to establish my procedural plan. I had put follow-up off as long as I could. Anyone who knows me knows that I am absolutely terrified of the dentist! Yesterday, the intensity of the pain unseated me and brought me to tears. I called First Dental and though they had no appointments available for a while, they understood the degree of pain I was in and got me scheduled for this morning for an extraction as well as a crown. It was rough at spots because of my own anxiety, but the TLC that I received at First Dental Center from Lauren, Armo’n, Dr. Feng, and the staff made all the difference in the world, from Lauren putting a weighted blanket on my lap and checking in with me at intervals to see if I needed anything, to Armo’n holding and squeezing my hand, and even Dr. Winston Feng checking in and pausing when I needed him to. I really appreciate the care I got there. The whole staff is amazing! They definitely will continue to be the place that I will go for my preventative dental maintenance.

Fantastic experience: Omg the best! I came here to get a cleaning. I ending up having more issues so I wasn’t able to get the cleaning but, when I say the customer service was amazing I mean exactly that.! From the beginning of service the dental assistant Delilah took my x-rays she make sure I was comfortable from asking me did I need water to weighted blankets and neck pillows. Then the hygienist seen me her name was crystal she was amazing and very informative. I had more issues then known so I did have to see the dentist as well and they all made me feel comfortable and better about the situation. Hopefully next time I come I get to see the support dog but top tier service!

Fantastic experience: 100% would recommend! The best Dental clinic in Chicago!!! Everyone is so friendly and helpful! Even with my special child they found the connection and all went smoothly! Also the annual membership is very affordable! It definitely worth it to not worry about such things as dental exams, cleaning, etc. plus discount in more complicated cases. Fantastic experience: The best dentist office and staff I had ever visited. My wife made an appointment for me and her for teeth cleaning. I was very apprehensive at first but Kristal put me at ease immediately. She is very nice and always takes great care of me when I go for cleaning. Fantastic experience: First Dental Place is amazing. It's the first dentist I actually enjoyed being at and look forward to my future follow up appointments. I went for the first time this week and very glad I did. It's been some time since I last visited a dentist, so I was a bit insecure about going, but they made it a very comfortable experience. I had Amanda as my dental hygienist and she was amazing. Explained everything really well and provided a really good cleaning. I had to get some additional services and she provided the out-of-pocket costs before proceeding, which I appreciated. I met with Dr Nguyen, who was also very welcoming and walked me through a bunch of information. The other staff I interacted with were really friendly as well. They made the visit so easy. The space itself is beautiful too, they did a great job with the renovation. It's very relaxing and has a spa vibe to it. I highly recommend going here for a solid dental experience.

Fantastic experience: I’m a new patient to the Dental practice and just had my first appointment. The office is clean and the staff is very friendly, personable, compassionate, and professional. I have a lot of anxiety when I go to the Dentist and they made me feel right at ease. Dr. Nguyen was extremely nice and really showed that he cared and he cleaned my teeth personally. I highly recommend this practice for all your dental needs. Update from a previous post. I’ve been seeing Dr. Feng lately as well for some additional dental work. This office is amazing. They make you feel so relaxed and provide a weighted blanket and neck pillow to calm your nerves. Dr. Feng is amazing and what he what he does and it’s very good at his craft. Thanks to Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Feng now have a beautiful smile.

Fantastic experience: This place is incredible so I'll construct this chronologically. The appointment making process is streamlined. You are given simple instruction from start to finish with text updates directly from the office staff for completing the appointment paperwork prior to arrival. Every member of the staff from reception, to the DA, to the doctor himself, are exceptional and maintaining the kind, concise and informative atmosphere that they advertise. I went outside of my insurance to pay out of pocket just to receive care from this facility. Sam (reception), Krystal (hygienist) and Dr. Nguyen we're my direct caregivers and there isn't a member of the team that I met that didn't seem like they didn't genuinely enjoy working here. The price was extremely fair for a year subscription of two cleanings and 20% off any procedure outside of that, that needed to be done for the year. The treatment from start to finish was impressive, with hardware and tools that made the visit much smoother without having to be shuffled from office to x-ray to exam rooms. Everything was done in the same room and explained in depth as we went. They make sure you understand the process each step of the way. This office was newly renovated and gorgeous from the top to bottom. They maximize the space into a cozy, modern atmosphere and even have an office dog. I can't say enough good things about this office but it was referred to me with high praise and I intend to pay that forward. If you're looking for quality care that is financially fair in or outside of network, this is the place I would suggest. Thank you team, for making my visit exceptional.

Fantastic experience: Great experience, even for an extremely nervous dental patient. Office is very clean and modern. Easy parking in the back lot. Friendly staff, everyone just seemed really cool. But also totally professional and very careful to explain the whole process, why the different scans and X-rays were needed, and give step by step narration of what they were doing. Didn’t shame or lecture me for going a while without a cleaning or throw around scare tactics about gum inflammation. Hygienist was able to schedule follow ups immediately in the exam room, so I wasn’t having to explain to a receptionist what appointment I needed. Made it so smooth. Also, the Support Dog! Lila pattering around made me laugh and when she came to visit me I swear I felt my blood pressure drop. She was such a lovely bonus to what was already a good experience.
