Coastal Kids Pediatric Dentistry

Positive experience: Overall staff/dr’s are great with children during the appointment- but the appointment and scheduling process should be better. They say you receive automated text message/phone calls to confirm appointments that never come through. Then when you call to verify additional insurance the day before an appointment, they can’t even tell you that you didn’t confirm via their system and it’s cancelled so you show up and miss work for nothing. Get re-scheduled another month later just for them to call and re-schedule due to “scheduling conflict”. It’ll be 3 more months before my child can be seen. A little frustrating when you’re a working parent of multiple children so keep that in mind when dealing with this office.

Fantastic experience: The dental hygienist could have been a bit more kid friendly but our dentist, Dr. Irving was incredible! He was so patient and kind to my 3yo nervous daughter. He made the entire experience enjoyable and stress free. I’m happy there are providers like him

Negative experience: My children have been going here for years. About a year ago I called to make an apt for my kids and the said I owed a fee for a no show. Mind you I have been taking my children here for years and never had no showed. I advised them that this was a mistake and requested to speak with a manager who suprise... suprise... is never avaliable. She or he also never called me back. I requested that they wave the fee as I did not realize what happened with the apt. Maybe it really was a mistake but I had no text or call to remind me. Anyways they refused the fee was like almost 200 dollars. I was upset and waited for the call from manager.. no call. Fast forward to now and I call to make an apt and just pay the fee as my kids need care and it's delaware (lack of doctors). They put me on hold... came back advised me im in collections. I asked to speak with the never there manager. Who was not there. Asked if I could pay the fee and just get my kids scheduled as my one daughter NEEDS care and the staff member helping was very kind but didn't know if I could pay and schedule. It's sad that they don't care about long term patients or care. They never have a manager avaliable. It's about money.. side note apparently my no show fee was so high because I have 3 kids, but when I first called about the issue the staff told me if I had one two kids they would have waved it but I had three apt spots... I found care elsewhere as resolution is not there approach

Negative experience: Found out casually while calling the office that my kids have been canceled from Dr DiCerbo practice. They couldn’t even give a courtesy call to advise of her decision to remove my kids from her practice after 10 year + of doctor patient relationship. I am appalled of this decision. I missed 2 apt they were honest oops with 1 child and I have 2 more. I have been very accommodating any time her office calls to reschedule because she is out of the office(vacation, hair appointment) it’s been more than 2 times. We all have lives and busy schedules, I know. I asked to speak to her was decline. I am truly shocked.

Fantastic experience: The staff were super friendly and efficient—I loved how quickly they got us in and out. Both of my little ones walked in smiling and left smiling too!

It was truly an exceptional experience that exceeded all our expectations. If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. This office has set a new standard for pediatric dental care in my eyes. I feel so grateful to have found such a wonderful team, and I will be recommending Coastal Kids Pediatric Dentistry to all my friends and family. Fantastic experience: Had my autistic sons’ (2yo) first dental visit there and it was great. The staff the doctor all of them were great with him. Because of the doctor being so great with him his visit was tear free. Will definitely recommend and I’ll be taking him back.

Negative experience: This review is long, but it's worth reading. In May 2023, my two kids had routine dental visits. I did my due diligence—ensured the provider was in-network with my dental insurance and booked their appointments at Coastal Kids. Both kids received standard cleanings and nothing more. Months later, I received a bill for around $370. Confused, I called my insurance company, and they told me the invoice included a charge for a "Risk Assessment," which wasn’t covered. I had never heard of this, so I asked my own dentist what it was. I was told it’s typically something Medicaid requires, but the dentist should ask if you want one, and Medicaid usually covers the cost. We don’t have Medicaid, and no one ever mentioned a "Risk Assessment" to me. So, I contacted the dental office. After several rounds of phone tag, I finally got through to someone and explained that I misplaced the original bill, but I knew I had been charged for a "Risk Assessment" I never requested. I also mentioned that if my dental insurance wouldn’t cover it, my medical insurance could, since routine dental visits are covered. They refused to submit it to my medical insurance, stating they had already done their part by submitting to Principal (thanks for nothing). I asked for a copy of the bill, and when they sent it, the "Risk Assessment" was listed as $1. Here’s where it gets bizarre. I had an entire conversation with my insurance company where they told me the $370 balance was for a "Risk Assessment." But now the bill shows it as $1? Why, then, am I being charged $370 for routine visits that should be 100% covered? I asked the office this, but no one had answers. So, I took matters into my own hands and submitted the claim to my medical insurance myself. Despite my efforts, I started receiving court papers and notices from debt collectors. Feeling trapped and scared of being sued, I reluctantly agreed to pay the $374 plus interest, even though I knew I shouldn’t have to. As a hardworking mother of two, I'm not trying to game the system—I just wanted the issue resolved. When I called the office to make the payment, they told me I had to pay the debt collection agency instead. So, I called them and was told the total—now with interest—was around $500. I agreed to pay, but then they dropped another bomb: I now owed $607 due to additional legal fees. I hadn’t even disputed anything, so why was I being charged lawyer fees? I asked if I could set up a payment plan, but they refused. They threatened to garnish my wages if I didn’t pay in full immediately. Over a bill I never should have received in the first place, my wages are at risk of being garnished. This entire experience has left me feeling completely scammed by this office. Not a single person has tried to help me resolve this, and I sincerely hope no one else has to endure what I’ve been through. It's been a stressful, frustrating nightmare. I want to emphasize that if I genuinely believed I owed this money, I would have paid it without hesitation. I understand how tricky insurance can be—I've had to cover medical deductibles in the past, and that’s something I expect. However, I am absolutely certain this should not have been my responsibility, and I’m truly disgusted by how this situation was handled. In response to the owner: Thank you for reaching out. I’ve had a few conversations with your team a few times, and unfortunately, this was the situation and response I received. I don't believe your office was transparent with this "Risk Assessment," and this situation has been a nightmare. I appreciate you taking the time to follow up.

Negative experience: THE WORST DENTIST OFFICE IN SUSSEX COUNTY!! these ppl called me a month before my son's appt the he has had for 6 months asking to change the date to a week late sure no problem. 48 HOURS BEFORE HIS APPOINTMENT THEY CALLED TO ASK TO CHANGE HIS APPOINTMENT AGAIN FOR AN HOUR LATER. I said sure. With me leaving early I did not make it there on time I was exactly 15 minutes late I get that it's still on me even tho it took my son's school over 20 minutes to get him when it doesn't take that long I tries to explain this but the lady at the front desk tells me the dentist has already left for the day. So nobody called and said hey the dentist needs to leave are you coming or was the dentist gonna walk out in the middle of my son's appt. Or would I have to wait yet again like the many time I have before for over an 1 hour seeing people who got in after me leave before me, and these were all cleaning appointments I had one appt for my daughter A CLEANING was there for 2 hours in a room with he door closed that felt like they forgot about my child and me then they were quick to get us out of there. I have pulled both my kids from hai office and now many toehr parents who have done the same. I would give this place a negative 5 stars if I could.

Negative experience: Policies are ridiculous!!! One child missed appointment so my other child who is in the middle of a dental treatment plan is then kicked out of the system as well... So so so disappointed!! They can call day of to change my appointment time and I have to be okay with it but no leniency for anyone else. Disgusted.

Negative experience: I've been bringing our child to this dentist for some time now, and I want to start by saying the dentists are fantastic. They take great care of their patients, and we feel confident in their hands. However, I've had two frustrating experiences with scheduling. Once, our appointment was canceled because I didn’t respond to an automated text message in time. I thought it was an appointment reminder and not a manadatory text I needed to reply too. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize this until I arrived, only to be told the appointment was canceled. Today, we scheduled an appointment for a cleaning, and when we got there, we were told it wasn’t actually scheduled for that day. I’m confident I had the correct date in my calendar, so this was especially frustrating—especially since we had driven an hour to get there. Despite explaining the situation, they were unable to accommodate us. The soonest they can reschedule is four months from now. While I really appreciate the care my child receives here, I hope they will consider making improvements to their scheduling system and show a bit more flexibility when issues arise.

Negative experience: I took my daughter here for a visit after she knocked her front teeth out 1 to the root on a tv stand . the doctor there told me the only thing to do was to shove them back in place with her fingers & no numbing . i said absolutely not & left . now 5 months after that the teeth they refused to pull got infected & she had to have FOUR teeth removed in 1 days cause coastal kids was too ignorant to do it themselves . absolutely disgusting care & no regard for the fact they work with CHILDREN . so happy i pulled my kids from this practice

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love how the staff help my son to not be scared of the dentist. They explain dental hygiene in a way that he understands the importance of taking care of his teeth. I noticed how most children there seem to enjoy the experience. I highly recommend Coastal Kids to anyone with children who have been afraid of the dentist. This place will completely change their opinion.

Fantastic experience: Coastal Kids staff were patient and accommodating. My son doesn’t usually do well at appointments and this was no exception. However, everyone did their best to get us the best care and the fastest resolution to our concerns! They are our new family dentist and would recommend them highly.

Negative experience: Place was great up until they wanted to give my 3 year old a filling. When offered laughing gas I politely declined as they tried to convince me to get it by saying “it makes kids feel dizzy and loopy, they love it!” Sorry just not into unnecessary drugs had she needed a tooth pulled I would have gotten it but being as it was a VERY small surface cavity that they themselves said it doesn’t even really need to be filled I didn’t believe it was necessary, also knowing I had already prepared my child for the process and what to expect when getting a cavity filled. I was then belittled by staff sarcastically saying “mommy knows best so you’ll just have to deal with it” and basically making smart comments throughout the entire process even though my child sat completely still and made out just fine as I expected. But as unprofessional and uncomfortable of a situation as that was I myself will not be returning.

Negative experience: While the care was great I won’t lie. The compassion is not. I literally had a family emergency and even attempt to call and didn’t get an answer and while missing the appointment they literally will not see my children again from one missed appointment due to a family emergency. I feel it’s already hard enough finding pediatric dentist and to make it harder is crazy to me. Still wig them well.

Fantastic experience: We just had our first visit here and everything was fantastic! The wait was minimal and the staff was amazing. It was my little one's first time at the dentist and everyone did great making her feel comfortable!

Fantastic experience: Wonderful pediatric dentist office. All of the staff are friendly and informative. Cheryl the hygienist was gentle and calming for my kids. Michelle the assistant was thorough and helpful. Dr Dicerbo was very knowledgeable and made my daughters filling appointment go way better then I could have even hoped for.

Negative experience: I love them as a practice but unfortunately due to a serious illness, hospitalization he missed a confirmed appointment and they dropped him as a patient with no exceptions allowed. They say to be fair to all clients but to be fair to all patients you should take each case individually on its merit. A parent can’t always control when they or the child will get sick and sometimes that happens the day of the appointment. It’s very unfortunate to punish the child for something that they had no control over…..though I can provide verification of the hospitalization and illness.

Fantastic experience: From the time you enter the door it is great smiles and great service! No complaints! They care about my children and the health of their teeth. I would recommend a million times over.

Negative experience: Frustrated. Filled out 20 min of paperwork for my twins only to be told they don't understand my dental insurance (I've used it myself and my dentist had no problem), and that because it took 30 min and they couldn't figure it out, I would need to reschedule or they'd squeeze us in for $275 a kid and we could do our own reimbursement. Shocking and just not very friendly. We'll find another dentist.

Fantastic experience: Been here a few times and they are always been good. Today my son had Sheryl and her assistant Laci, my son voiced that last time the hygienist was a little rough. Sheryl and Laci went above and beyond to make him more comfortable and took their time to make sure they were gentle. Thank you ladies so much!!!

Fantastic experience: Making and confirming the appointment was easy. The facility is clean and attractive; it is very colorful and stimulating for children. All staff members were professional and kind. My son was very nervous yet he was treated with warmth and compassion. We received helpful information about dental care in a respectful manner. The staff is conscientious about gradually introducing dental hygiene tools and techniques as my son gets acclimated to routine dental visits. They are very kid friendly and I love that. My son also enjoyed his prize at the end! The office is very clean and charming. I enjoy the colorful decor and playful vibe. The kids delighted in the surfboard video game console in the waiting area. The staff was kind, courteous, and efficient. Emily was friendly and warm. Dr. Irving was sensational! My son has autism and they both handled him with care. My toddler daughter is terrified of doctors but Dr. Irving remained warm and was unruffled by her screaming and crying. I’m so glad this dental practice is situated in our community. I wouldn’t want to take my kids anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: The staff is awesome, and the doctors and nurses even better if that's even possible. Highly recommend! I made a mistake when putting the appointment information in my calendar and arrived a little late for our appointment, and everyone was very nice and tried to accommodate us without disturbing their schedules. I felt so bad for being late, but they were very professional and assisted me to the highest standards while making our whole family feel comfortable.

Fantastic experience: Very pleased with the Rehoboth office. I called in the morning for an emergency appointment for my son who was a new patient. They got us in right away. The office staff was extremely nice and also the doctor. Don’t find to many offices like that anymore. Very pleased and thankful.

Fantastic experience: Amazing! They calmed my very anxious child who was in tears about getting a cavity filled. She had two cavities originally and we could only fill the small one without her breaking down. They gave the best advice with an extremely nervous child and today we we were able to fill the second one and she walked out thinking she was a rockstar and “slayed” her second time around lol. I would recommend them all day everyday!

Fantastic experience: We have used Coastal Kids since our Daughter was a baby going to the dentist! Always a great experience! However, on Labor Day our Daughter lost her crown at 10 years old so I called because I wasn’t sure what to do or if it was ok’. Of course they were closed so I left the message with the “emergency” number (wasn’t sure if it was an emergency”. Dr.D called me back less than 5 min. I explained what happen and that I could see the adult tooth! All was well no need for an appointment as I thought I had one in Feb. about 10 minutes after we got off the phone she called me back 1. To let me know we didn’t have an appointment scheduled. 2. To say it had been a bit longer since she saw our daughter to call in the morning just so she could take a peek. Wasn’t an emergency but since she hadn’t had a X-ray she wanted to confirm! So we called at 8am when they opened. She left a note in her chart. They saw us at 9am and All was well! Outstanding treatment. Not only was she quick on Labor Day. She went through her chart after to confirm there was no issues. She didn’t push for emergency visit ($), she left the note in the chart like she said, and the office staff got us in! Very professional! Very good with kids! Very good with parents knowing nothing about crown teeth! Definitely the place you wanna take your kid to! Kinda sad they don’t see adults also

Fantastic experience: I should have written this a while ago. My kids have been going for 7/8 years. I have never felt more comfortable and accepted with my autistic child. The staff is wonderful, however Dr Jessica Dicerbo is amazing, she is literally an angel sent from heaven ! My son hated the dentist, he has autism, Dr Dicerbo is so patient and kind to him, she realized what a difficult time he was having , so she came up with a plan to see him every 3 months to get him use to her, she even worked with my insurance since they would only allow 2 visits a year, so I didn't have to pay extra. She would sit us in a private room and take her time even giving him breaks . She never rushed him or was irrated like the other dentists we seen in the past. Our last visit left me in tears on the way home. He came to get a baby tooth pulled, he was so terrified, he eneded up kicking the tray table and not letting her pull his tooth. I was mortified and very apologetic . She looked at me in my eyes and told me not to apologize that he was scared and she doesn't want to scare him anymore since we worked so hard to get him comfortable with her and that she was proud of him for even coming that day and sitting in the chair. I was so touched by her understanding, acceptance and patience.

Fantastic experience: Coastal kids is amazing! They have wonderful staff and make your kids feel comfortable. Our hygienist, Bre, was so welcoming and did exactly what she needed to do in comforting my child when she was nervous for her visit! Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: All I can say is AMAZING! I was very nervous to take my daughter here for her first dental appointment because your child’s first impression of the dentist isn’t always the best! But the dental hygienist named Breanna is soooo great with kids and sets the bar so high when it comes to sympathy and compassion. She cares so much about my child’s oral health it makes my 2 year old curious about brushing her teeth and coming back to see Miss. bre! I definitely Recommend them and Breanna to anyone with children go see them!!

Fantastic experience: My kids have been going to coastal kids for years but this is only our second visit to the new office In seaford (since traffic in rehoboth isnt always the best) and we love it!!! Today we met Dr Irving and Ndango, whereas we had met Cassie and Anne last time visiting.... dr Irving was amazing and my boys took a liking to Ndango. I came with 4 kids ages 14, 7,6,&5 they were very accommodating and extremely patient....Highly recommend this dentist office!!

Fantastic experience: Took my nephew to his appointment for my sister and it was super friendly, good environment. My nephew doesn’t like the dentist but Suneydi talked him through everything and made him feel so comfortable. Amazing staff member!

Fantastic experience: Dr DiCerbo embodies everything a pediatric dentist ought to be. She engages with the child and talks them through everything. There are many that just expect the child to open their mouth and “cooperate”, but that doesn’t always work with kids, especially anxious kids. She is amazing in her ability to use different behavior techniques effectively so that the child can “cooperate” and get used to having dental work done. She does it in a way that isn’t scary or forceful. Dr DiCerbo is highly skilled and truly dedicated to her patients. Her offices are beautiful, child friendly, and very clean. The staff has always been very friendly, polite and courteous. I highly recommend Coastal Kids!
