Negative experience: I am writing this review based on my father’s experience as a patient at Thomasville Road Dental Care, specifically under the care of Dr. Sebastian Porras. Unfortunately, our experience has been deeply disappointing and remains unresolved. My father received upper and lower dentures that never functioned properly. He was never able to wear the bottom dentures, and over time even the top dentures became extremely loose, requiring excessive adhesive just to stay in place. As a result, he has been unable to chew food properly for an extended period, significantly affecting his health, confidence, and quality of life. During a very difficult time for our family, when my mother was gravely ill and later passed away, my father could not even wear his bottom dentures to his wife’s funeral when we were told he would be able to wear them the same day he left the office. Despite multiple visits and repeated requests for help, these issues were never resolved. Throughout several appointments, we experienced what we felt was unprofessional and inconsistent care from Dr. Porras. On more than one occasion, while Dr. Porras was explaining adjustments or next steps, the dental assistant present would visibly look at us and shake her head, appearing to disagree with what was being said. This was confusing and concerning as patients. There were also instances where Dr. Porras attempted to adjust the dentures and then left the room. After he exited, the dental assistant made additional adjustments that were noticeably more effective than those made by the dentist. While we appreciated her efforts, this raised serious concerns about oversight, consistency, and overall quality of care. The most troubling aspect of this experience is how it ended. Despite unresolved treatment failures, my father was dismissed as a patient. Later, an appointment was made and confirmed for him, then later canceled by the office, after which he was told he would not be seen unless his situation was considered an “emergency.” This was said despite the fact that he cannot keep his dentures in his mouth and is unable to eat properly. As of today, we are still attempting to obtain a complete patient ledger and billing records and are experiencing delays and a lack of returned communication while trying to resolve matters amicably. Given the extremely high number of positive reviews for this office, our experience was surprising and did not align with what we encountered firsthand. Based on repeated visits, unresolved treatment issues, and conversations with staff, our experience does not reflect the level of consistency or quality suggested by the overall rating in any way, shape or form. While some staff members were kind and professional, the overall handling of my father’s care, communication, and continuity of treatment has been unacceptable. I strongly recommend that anyone considering denture work here ask very detailed questions upfront and ensure that expectations, limitations, and follow-up care are clearly documented in writing.

I recommended them to my husband, Charles who will also be transferring to Thomasville Road Dental Care as well. It is so good to be with someone who really care about the healthiness of my gums. Negative experience: I was initially scheduled for my second cleaning six months in advance, prior to November. Less than a week before that appointment, it was canceled because the hygienist relocated to a sister office. I was then offered the next available appointment in late January, which would have caused me to lose my second cleaning for the year. After speaking with multiple people in the office, I was eventually offered an appointment on 12/31. I made it very clear that I needed this appointment to be kept, as it was the last day of the year and I had no other options. I was reassured that I would be seen. However, a week prior I was informed that my 12/31 appointment would be canceled because the dentist would not be available to do an exam after the cleaning. I was offered only same-day appointments yesterday and today, but I was already out of town for the holidays. These options would have been much more helpful if offered back in November. The staff is friendly, but the office organization is lacking. Phone calls are often not answered, and callbacks are inconsistent. Overall, the experience was frustrating despite the kind staff.

Negative experience: TERRIBLE! The front desk was so rude to me on the phone and was so unprofessional! How could someone be this rude?! They also accepted my insurance and told me it will only cost me the copay and then sent me a big bill saying they don’t take my insurance! Stay away from them!

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience at this dentist office. The dental hygienist assistant, Latasha, was so kind to me. Even with one of their doctors out for maternity leave, they did pretty well on time.

They are smiling and greet you with such an uplifting and enthusiastic demeanor, that doesn't seem fake. Latasha was phenomenal! I can't say enough great things about her. She was so informative, friendly, patient, and kind-hearted. Jartavious went above and beyond and quickly called and straightened out insurance issues. Dr. Porras was also very nice and explained everything thoroughly and answered all my questions. The hygienist was also very sweet. I'm a patient that really dislikes going to dentists in general, but this office made me feel at ease and very comfortable. I highly recommend them. Fantastic experience: I went to Thomasville Dental Care because they were in network with my dental plan, HOWEVER I would highly recommend them and Dr. Bridgett Calloway!! From the moment I made my appointment via phone and was greated by a very pleasant young lady by the name of Portia(forgive me if I have spelled the name incorrectly), to walking in the door. Fantastic experience: Staff are typically amazing, professional, funny, caring and keep me relaxed, front desk, hygienist, Dr. Butler. Not sure if I just caught my hygienist on a rough morning or what but the atmosphere was different among the hygienist my last visit. I had never met my hygienist before but she was not friendly, a bit rude, during appointment. This was definitely my first disappointing encounter in over 2 and a half years and I am a frequent flyer.Praying this was a bad day because I’d always had such kind and compassionate staff on the past.

Fantastic experience: Despite my long drive from the other side of Tally, I just love coming to this clinic. It all started when I chipped my front tooth 5 years ago and they saw me within an hour! Negative experience: They overfiled my crown to where it broke. Now seeing in reviews where this has been an issue for others. Also when they were doing my crown, they were chatting the entire time. I did not feel like my dental work was a priority. The woman who had the water and spit removal devices kept forgetting to use them. So it actually was one of my most traumatic dental experiences. Then I have to replace a crown less than a year later. Save your money this place is awful!

Fantastic experience: I am someone who is terrified of the dentist. When I walked into the building the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The ladies at the desk are super pleasant and very helpful. Once I got to my he back I got nervous again but the staff put me right at ease. They explain everything and have the latest in technology. That makes the process a lot less scary and painful. The beside manner of Dr. Butler is like none other. Communication is key! I’m grateful I found this place.

Fantastic experience: I had neglected my dental care for years due to bad experiences with previous dentists. I started going to Thomasville Rd Dental Care in 2023 and I was terrified since it had been so long that I had seen a dentist and as soon as I walked in the door I felt relaxed and it just got better from there my experience was awesome the initial visit was very professional everything was explained in detail. A few weeks later I had my 1st cleaning and again the experience was great 2nd cleaning was on 2/28/24. I never imagined that I would be happy and excited to visit a dentist office again. Thank you to all the great staff, doctors and hygienist for the wonderful work you do and for making your patients feel great in coming to the office.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible. They're experts at wasting your time and money. We had several bad experiences with them and I don't want anyone else to have to put up with such incompetence and apathy towards patients. My daughter waited in the waiting room for over an hour. They finally took her back to a room and then just disappeared for another hour and a half with no explanation. At least come check on your patient once in a while. When I took my son in for a crown they screwed up and made the crown wrong TWICE so it didn't fit. They couldn't thin it down enough without it cracking and breaking so they had to order a new one. And then did the same thing again. Came back a third time and there was yet another issue. They had my wife wear the same invisalign aligner for a month and a half because they can't get their act together. The aligners are supposed to be changed every two weeks, for good reason. She called numerous times asking when she'd get her new aligners and got no response. Avoid them at all costs! We go to Sanders now and they're so much better!

It is clear that they support and uplift each other which comes through in their patient care. They are professional, yet friendly. Caring, yet honest and forthright about your oral health. Negative experience: Something changed in the past year. Last visit was told my child had 4 cavities needing work. I asked for a referral to a Peds dentist, who did their own X-rays and exam and said nothing was wrong. Can’t tell you how disappointed I am with Thomasville Dental resorting to unnecessary services. Best to choose somewhere else for your dental needs.

Negative experience: The dental care itself is excellent and the staff are courteous and professional. However, my overall experience has been remarkably frustrating due to operational inefficiency and ineptitude - to the effect that I have had to take my business elsewhere. Despite my initial confidence in the practice, I encountered repeated scheduling errors, mishandled insurance details, and duplicate patient profiles that created confusion and delays. These process failures directly contributed to a worsening of an existing condition to the effect that the necessary procedure will now be far more expensive (and unpleasant). This was an avoidable difficulty and complication. It is disappointing to see such great opportunity and clinical talent torpedoed by administrative disarray. I hoped to remain a patient here, but the lack of reliable patient care process renders that untenable. I hope you all have better luck in the future.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly environment since day one of me becoming a patient. Even though I'm uncomfortable with my appearance as far as my teeth is concerned, THEY have never made me feel uncomfortable or like I'm being judged. They make me feel like they really WANT to help improve my situation. Yes, it is their job to do so and yes they are getting paid but they make me feel like I am more than just a patient . Negative experience: Today was not the normal appointment I was accustomed to. I understand the need for insurance research, which should have been done prior to my appointment. During my lengthy wait, there petsons laughing and horse playing around in a professional setting.

Negative experience: Trashy, pushy, borderline aggressive. Look how unresponsive they are. . . . They told me I needed work that another dentist did not recommend. Not good about returning messages. Sent multiple messages that were ignored. Could you please at least have the class to provide a substantive response? Reply to owner: Would you like to apologize? Would you care to state an adequate reason that it took you 26 DAYS and 3 SEPARATE REQUESTS to send my x-rays to another dentist? You were very quick to have someone of unstated and perhaps nonexistent credentials shove papers in my face to sign (while I was still reclined in the chair). But you are rather slow to do something that doesn't profit you. Care to explain?

Negative experience: I had a terrible experience at this dental office with ( Dr. LaToya Butler, DDS ), and I would not recommend it to anyone. I went in for my first appointment as a new patient last week, and I ended up waiting nearly three hours before the doctor even came in. When she finally did, she quickly told me that I needed a crown but could not do it that day, so I had to schedule another appointment. I returned today for my 1:30 PM appointment and arrived at 12:45 PM, hoping to avoid delays. Unfortunately, I was not taken into a room until 2:00 PM, and the hygienist came in at 2:30 PM to give me anesthesia, saying the doctor would be in soon. Another hour passed before a nurse came in to apologize for the delay. Finally, at 3:45 PM, the doctor arrived, checked my tooth, and told me that I now needed a root canal and a crown. I agreed to the procedure, signed the paperwork, and received another dose of anesthesia. Then, I was left waiting yet again. By 4:30 PM, I had been sitting there for almost four hours, so I asked a nurse to call the doctor. The doctor showed up at 4:45 PM, only to tell me that she was the only one working, they were very busy, and I would have to wait even longer. At this point, I decided to leave. She did not apologize or show any concern. Instead, she said that leaving was a "good idea" and told me to reschedule. I asked if anything had been done to my tooth that might cause pain later, and she simply said no without any explanation or care. This experience was extremely frustrating, unprofessional, and a complete waste of my time. The lack of organization, excessive wait times, and the doctor’s dismissive attitude were unacceptable. I would never recommend this office to anyone looking for quality dental care.

Negative experience: The dentist was great, can't say the same for the office personnel. I was there 2 weeks ago they tell me my x-rays were only good for 3 wks , well I've been calling since the day after with no luck, it rolls over to a answering service I guess, because she wasn't in the office. I left messages on the voice mail, no call back. The lady from the call center emailed them 2 days ago, still no call back. I'm so frustrated with these folks I don't know what to do. At this point I'm calling my insurance company to find out if I can go elsewhere.

Negative experience: Garbage office. I liked the dentist and hygienists here, but the communication is horrendous. In 3 years, I’ve never once gotten a call back when I’ve had questions. Appointments often take hours and hours because they overbook. Then today, I show up to an 8:30am filling appointment, to be told suddenly that they don’t take my insurance anymore. Said I was supposed to have gotten a letter, which I absolutely did not. They sure did call me a few weeks ago to reschedule my original appointment to today. Nobody bothered to say by the way, we don’t take your insurance anymore. I had this appointment scheduled months ago, now I have to search for a new dentist and likely wait months yet again to start all over, probably pay for a whole new set of X-rays and who knows what else, and pray the cavities don’t get worse. After 3 years as a patient here, thanks for treating me like my time, money and the health of my teeth don’t matter at all.

Negative experience: I've loved this dental office for the couple of years I've been coming. The receptionists are always very nice and welcoming. The hygienists are some of the friendliest and kindest ladies I have ever had as hygienists and I truly enjoy going in to see them and catch up with them! I also appreciate Dr. Butler's intentionality with my treatment plan. However.. most appointments I make at this office runs at least 40 mins and up to 1-2 hours behind. Most of us are busy and have schedules or kids so this is so hard to plan for..it happens often. I'm writing a review after calling and attempting to send the office a message about this but not getting a response. The last time I visited this December, after a 2 hour delay, my temporary was not done correctly; leaving me in pain. I was told to come back; but had no time (due to work and being so close to the holidays) until 2 days later, so I had significant pain and trouble eating until then. This was 3 days before I left town for Christmas for 2 weeks. When I made it back in, the dental assistant drilled my temporary while in my mouth to fix. It felt better, but a little loose and 2 days later, the temporary broke and came loose while I was traveling in Va for the holidays. I had to spend Christmas without anything until I could find a dentist up in Va for a fix bc i was there for 2 weeks. I called Thomasville road dental 3 weeks ago, on Dec 23 and left a message about this and asked for advice; but have yet to receive a call back. Unfortunately, the last time I had an appt for a filling here, I had to come back to get it fixed bc there was a space that left my nerve exposed and i was in lots of pain after the appt. I am pretty disappointed in these repeated issues..I loved this dental office but I'll be looking for another one once my permanent comes in.

Negative experience: Dentist cancelled after I arrived from 50 minute commute. I called in advanced to confirm appointment, but still got cancellation. Called to share my concern about this. Was advised someone would call back but they never did.

Dr. Butler was super knowledgeable and set me up with a great game plan to fix all my concerns and make sure my teeth are healthy. Great practice!

Negative experience: Please save yourself some time and not come to this office. I was a new patient and I waited several months to be seen. When I arrived 20 min early to my 9:00am appt to sign any additional paperwork needed, I was then turned away by the doctor. Stated that they don't open until 9:00am, although it states 8:00am online, (which is why I chose this office) since I cant miss much work. I came back for my 9:00am appt and when I walked in the front desk did not welcome me at all and immediately brought me through the doors. The woman (April) that was "helping" me, was very rude and rolled her eyes at me several times and very dismissive. I asked if there was a problem, and she said let me go get the doctor. She didn't respond to what I asked. Which made me feel that the issue was discussed before I even arrived, as if they were manifesting there to be a issue. April directed me into the doctors personal office to sit down and discuss the issues. I felt extremely unsafe and uncomfortable. I shared my issues with the mislead hours and the behavior of the office. The doctor was very rehearsed and cold. At that point, I did not trust her office to work in my mouth. I scheduled my brother's appt. here a couple months ago, which I regret. Needless to say, we are taking our business elsewhere and will not be advising any of our close friends or family to come to this office. Thank you for your time and hope this helps you choose a better dentist that actually cares about your needs.

Fantastic experience: The staff was awesome and attentive, the dental hygienist was thorough and gave me an excellent cleaning, and Dentist Porras was very personable and didn't give a lecture about daily flossing!

Negative experience: BEWARE...this dental clinic does not have a clue how to request insurance approval before asking you to sign for the procedure requested, taking your money, and then doing the work. I have never written a review before but I am so incensed about how my case was handled, I felt I needed to warn potential clients what they may be getting into. And after having read the negative or mediocre reviews, I see others have had a similar experience. I was having two crowns installed, with one crown a result of a broken tooth and the other a badly cracked but not broken tooth. I asked directly if my insurance would cover both and was told "yes" by both the dentist and the office staff requiring me to sign a document agreeing to the procedures and the cost of the crowns. I paid my portion before leaving the office that day. My mistake was TRUSTING that these people were telling me the truth. I would not have had both teeth worked on had I known that my insurance would NOT cover the cracked tooth. I had the work done within a month and all was well, or so I thought. A couple of months later I received a bill for $610 from TRDC for the remaining cost of the crown for the cracked tooth! I was dumbfounded and immediately tried to find out why I owed this money. Apparently my insurance rejected their claim--a decision they (and I) should have been aware of PRIOR to the crown work. I was willing to split the cost of the charge but never received any response to my letter. They turned my case over to a debt collection agency with no effort to resolve the situation themselves. If you want a dental group that is extremely professional, works to provide you with transparent and honest answers to your questions, and provides excellent dental care, go to Tallahassee Dental Associates and RUN from Thomasville Road Dental Care. BTW, TRDC, do not bother to respond with your canned answer. Your attempt at communicating with a patient is overdue.

Fantastic experience: The people--all of them I saw--were warm and friendly, the cleaning was good, and they were unnecessarily apologetic about the wait time. I think this office delivers about as good a dental visit as it's possible to have. I highly recommend it.

Negative experience: Maybe now y’all will answer the phone.. I called ALL day Friday to be seen for an abcesses tooth. They told me they’d call in meds, never did. They said they’d call the dr, never did. I asked if I should go to the er if it got worse, was told not to. My face is now swollen 3 times the size and I’m in the hospital because no one can return a call. I’m so mad and in pain because of you! Adding insult to injury, I can’t get in with any emergency dentists!! I want this fixed asap and free because you screwed my face up

Negative experience: My family and I are new-ish to the area and have found it difficult to find a dentist that could accommodate our 2x visits a year. I discovered Thomasville Road Dental Care due to their outstanding Google reviews and was hopeful that this would become the office where my family and I receive our care. While they seem to be a great practice, I have been dismayed by the care my husband received during his first visit. With a history of periodontal issues, we have consistently maintained a 3-4 month recall schedule for years and have noticed significant improvement. Both our dentist back home and another local dentist observed that his pocket measurements had improved significantly, allowing recalls to be extended to 6 months and managed with prophys. However, when my husband was seen at this office, he was 7 months out from his last cleaning (due to the other office in Tallahassee being fully booked), and it was determined that he would need SRPs due to a few 4 & 5 pocket measurements among the 2-3's. While SRPs are technically a benefit of the insurance plan, there is more clinical evidence required for insurance to approve payment, which often costs over $1,500 out of pocket and is not always fully covered. This includes proof of bone loss and buildup, which, as I mentioned, had been noted by two separate dentists as having improved. We went back to our previous dentist because they had a last-minute opening, and, needless to say, we were reassured when another dentist confirmed that SRPs were not recommended in this case. Had I not sought a second opinion and proceeded with the treatment, there would have been a good possibility that my insurance would deny the claim, leaving us responsible for the full cost as many require more than just pockets depths of 4-5 to warrant this treatment. We were also charged $70 for a "Pre-test," a more involved oral cancer screening, without informing my husband that this would be an optional service. This is outside the standard screening included in the comprehensive exam and is a separate ADA code because it aids in detecting mucosal abnormalities, often requiring additional tools. It is often not covered by dental insurance. While we would have appreciated the test if my husband had risk factors for oral cancer, it would have been better to inform him beforehand so he could make an informed choice. At my old office in Colorado, the office provided a list of services often not covered by insurance along with the in-office price, allowing patients to make informed decisions about their care. I also want to point out that the American Cancer Society outlines factors that increase the risk of oral cancer, none of which apply to my husband. It seems this office performs the procedure on all patients, which can be beneficial, but I wish we had been informed before the service was performed. As a potential or current patient, just be aware to ask lots of questions and, if you receive a treatment plan, don’t hesitate to get a second opinion. Overall, this does not seem to be a bad place. I think management may not be fully aware that the hygienists are not clearly communicating patients' options. Having worked in the dental industry myself, I know some hygienists may be eager to jump to SRPs when there are other options to consider, such as performing a D4346 with a two-week follow-up prophy to check for improvement or performing a D4910 and reassessing in 4 months. When the price difference is so significant, I believe these are important things for the staff to be aware of and to work with patients accordingly.

Fantastic experience: I started coming to Thomasville Road Several years ago, and I've since moved back to South Florida. I gladly drive back to Tallahassee to see my dentist Latoya Butler! This is by far the best dental experience I've ever had and in my opinion THE BEST HANDS DOWN DENTIST OFFICE IN LEON COUNTY! The staff is exceptional at what they do as well as being very personable, caring and knowledgeable at what they do! I highly recommend Thomasville Road Dental for all your dental needs!

Fantastic experience: My 5 year old daughter was complaining about a tooth hurting really bad and they were able to fit me in the next day. She was nervous and anxious because it was her first dentist appointment. When we went in she was super excited but as soon as we were called back she was terrified! She was refusing to do any X-Rays and was overwhelmed by all the equipment. Needless to say, she was a very difficult and loud patient. All of the staff were AMAZING! They didn't get aggravated with her, all encouraged her to be brave, and made her feel as comfortable as possible! The receptionist and dental hygienist we had went above and beyond for her! The dental hygienist actually talked her into cleaning her teeth, and I was amazed that she was able to! She explained everything thoroughly and had my baby laughing in no time! 2 dentists also helped out even though she refused to let them get too close to her but she did let one look in her mouth. Honestly, this is the nicest dentist office I've ever been to! Everyone is polite and caring, it's very clean, and the staff really makes this place a wonderful place to revisit! I would definitely recommend!!

Negative experience: I never write reviews….On my first visit, I went in for a cleaning and they only got x-rays done, so they wanted to schedule my cleaning for the next day which I couldn’t do because of work. They told me I had nine cavities that needed to be filled so once I moved up north, I went to a dentist at Yale and they told me I had no pre-cavities and nothing to be filled. This place just wants your money, even mine as a college student.

Fantastic experience: From check-in to the bill process, this was the most pleasant dental experience I've had as an adult. Why? Everyone was genuinely friendly, they took their time to explain things to me, and Everyone knew their job so well. This was my 1st dental visit with them, I'll be going back for a few more things but it's good to know I'll be with folks who truly care about people and love their jobs. It shows!
