Children and Teen Dental of Alabama - Tuscaloosa (Mcfarland Blvd.)

Negative experience: I made an appointment for my 4 children over a month ago and filled out all of their paperwork on the same day. I arrived at our appointment on time, however they did not see any of my children until 40 minutes past our appointment. During that time, they informed me they needed to verify our insurance, because the paperwork I submitted on their website forum did not save all of the information. They also informed me at that time that we were not in network and I would need to pay 10% of the bill today. I then found out they had never called my children previous dentist to have any x-rays or records sent over. And due to that they would need to take more x rays of my one child, who already had some done. This is a FAST food dental office with zero privacy between its dental chairs. With a front office staff that cannot be bothered to do their due diligence ahead of time. If I had received a phone call before our appointment explaining that something happened to the paperwork I would have been glad to re-provide the information they needed. I did ask when I made the appointment if they accepted our insurance, which the front office confirmed. However, I didn't learn we weren't in network until 30 minutes past our appointment time. Again, if due diligence was done ahead of time, even a day a head! I could've cancelled the appointment. They knew all this and still tried to push for x-rays for my oldest, saying we don't have them. And they couldn't call the previous dentist as they are closed today. Again, all could've been resolved if they actually cared about their patients instead of squeezing as much money out of them as possible. The dentist was rude to me as a parent, who was only trying to soothe my scared child. I understand the dentist is the one in charge, but he clearly preferred a scared child to a child that just needs a moment to get comfortable. They had no consideration for my autistic daughter who was past her limit waiting for so long (And yes I wrote she was autistic in their paperwork). Did not ask me if I wanted fluoride on my children's teeth, which was an additional cost I also got to pay as we aren't in NETWORK!

Fantastic experience: The dentist and his nurses, staff are always wonderful smiling and so kind.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing! My son is autistic and they made him feel comfortable while pulling a tooth. Dr Simpson is a miracle worker my son didn't feel anything. The technician (ashley i think) used to tapping method to keep my son grounded during the shot process and that really helped him.

Negative experience: Worse Dentist in the county, Dr John is extremely impatient to be a pediatric dentist, the kids can’t move at all or he is refusing treatment! I will be filing a grievance, the appointment was exceptionally horrible

Fantastic experience: This is truly the best dentist for children. I was so thankful the Dentist and staff was able to relieve my child's fear of Dental work. She left the office with a smile instead of tears.

Negative experience: We are to the dentist appointment on time & before time. I chose an earlier appointment because I had to go to work. Laila name wasn’t called at least 30 or 40 minutes after we got there. Other people came in far after us but got waited on before us. I had to ask a front desk associate why did we had to wait so long, she said she will look into it. I was 1 1/2 hour late for work because of this. One dental tech was in a room across from me was talking loud & wasn’t helping anyone. I didn’t see who she talking to & was on her phone also. When the dentist was talking to me about my daughter teeth another tech was began a conversation with her tech . Our dentist tech didn’t say anything But the other tech was very rude. And the dentist had to say something to her. I wasn’t happy with this dental appointment.

Fantastic experience: Great office! I was able to get an appt quickly. New pt forms were sent via txt so I didn't have to fill out paperwork the office. Front office staff and DAs were very nice. Dr. Simpson was very nice as well. I like the way he spoke with all of the kids, not just mine. The appt was quick, no long wait time.

Fantastic experience: We have been seeing Dr. Burgess for about 22 years and I have had great experiences with my children there. Dr Annika is great I love her chair side manners and how she works let’s not forget her communication skills are the bomb. She is amazing.

Negative experience: Horrible service! 30-40 minutes for x-ray. Lady rushing teeth cleaning. Talking to little kids instead of parents. Getting smart with parents for asking about the kids appointment. Take your kids somewhere else.

Positive experience: This was my first time taking a one year old to the dentist. The office staff was nice and we got an appointment quickly. We did not have to wait long once we arrived at the office. However, my experience with the dentist could have been better, so I hope to get him into someplace else for future appointments. I will mention that the place was not busy at all and we were one of two families in there. The dentist did not introduce himself and started talking to us about why we bring kids in at one year old. Then he had me put my child down in the chair and hold his arms down while he looked in his mouth. My child is strong and screamed the whole time. I did my best to hold his arms down all the while being 8 months pregnant with no chair to sit in for task. The dentist kept saying "watch his hand" while I was doing my best to hold my screaming child. Then, when I tried to ask him a question at the end, he said the office ladies would take care of me and walked away dismissively. My expectation has been that the dentist would talk to me and to my child and ease him into looking into his mouth instead of me having to force him down while he screamed.

Suck it up if you’re sensitive. He’s not super warm. But he’s a great dentist. Thank you so much

Negative experience: My visit today was horrible. The doctor there was hollering at my artistic son then told me to be quiet. I’m very disappointed ashamed and hopefully will never have to go back. The staff was great. They was very pleasant nice and gentle with my son.

Negative experience: My experience at this doctor’s office was horrible today I had the Doctor, to holler at my artistic seven year old, a humiliate him in front of his staff. I would not recommend no kids to this doctor office. I was Generous and Calm because I knew that he wasn’t being Professional. My Seven-year-old was having 4 teeth pulled at one time. So you would think he very scared this doctor had no compassion for or my child.

Positive experience: The visit as a whole was good. They were efficient and nice but maybe too clinical and a little detached. The office sees a lot of patients so that is understandable but i did not like that the staff was telling my child where he needed to be and not telling me what they were doing. They didn’t address me at all, for the most part. The doctor seemed to be good at what he does but bedside manner left a little something to be desired. All in all, it was a quick and proficient visit which means almost no wait time but there also wasn’t much personality in the visit.

Positive experience: The nurse who cleaned my teeth was in a hurry because i was her last patient and told her friends she wanted to leave soon so she was very rough with my teeth .

Negative experience: The Northport location is horrible, and "receptionists " blame their short comings on the Call Center they commission to do the work for them. They will send a confimation text to your phone the day before appointment, but will allow call center to cancel your appointment if the office does not recieve your text. It has been countless times we have had this happen to us, and today July 8th 2024, my son was there in the office at his appointment time, and they refused to see him because " his appointment had already been canceled and the dentist is too far behind in his work." Highly recommend looking elsewhere for a dentist,which is what I have done today... especially since he can't pay his receptionist to answer the office phone and make appointments themselves. Yes, I'm angry. I'm really happy THIS time it wasn't an actual emergency appointment. You guys need to do better (Northport Location).

Negative experience: My daughter came in with severe pain today, June 25th. upon arriving, we found out that her insurance was not active so I had to pay out-of-pocket which that was fine but the only thing they did was give her a x-ray did not give her any pain medicine and just referred her to another dentist and we paid over $180 just for one x-ray and nothing else to be done. That is unsatisfactory so my daughter and me a hard-working parent that brought her child into her dentist that she goes to and he would not give her any pain medicine. I did not want to give a star at all, but this is the only way I can get my Share my thoughts.

Fantastic experience: My son has been a patient at Children and team Dental of Alabama since he had his first dental appointment as a toddler. Dr. Burgess was the first dentist he saw they took a picture together, Frederick cried. Dr. Burgess was patient with him. Now Frederick is 15 and out of his braces Children and teen dental of Alabama referred us to PT orthodontics by Dr. Burgess. Thanks to all of the dental team.

Negative experience: I have braces and she brushed hard with toothbrush and then brushed with electric toothbrush. I have cuts and ulcers now and my lower bracket is loose on my back tooth.
