Smiles in Joplin

Positive experience: They keep trying to fix my denture, but it just keeps rocking front to back side to side and every time they put new connectors in the denture within 24 hours it breaks! So I’m not exactly thrilled! It cost me about $60 every time I have to come to the dentist . And if I have to come to the dentist three times in one month, that’s $180 out of about 1000 a month. That may not be A lot of money to some people, but it’s a big chunk of my check and I can’t afford it.

Work with you on whatever payment plan you can to get the work done and underway. instead of demanding you pay they wouldve taken as little as 100 to get me started on my services. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I started going to Smiles when I needed my wisdom teeth removed, and they were amazing. They worked with my schedule and got me in really quick. I’ve been going for a few years now, and I absolutely love this place! The staff always make you feel so welcomed and comfortable. They genuinely listen to your concerns and have consistently given thoughtful recommendations to improve the health of my teeth, gum and smile. I recently had an appointment and had to bring my youngest daughter along. They were the sweetest to her while taking care of my cleaning. I also love that they have a snack table it’s such a nice little extra touch! I really appreciate how thoughtful and engaging they were with my daughter. This kind of care makes every visit a positive experience!

Negative experience: cannot say I am impressed... the crown he put in lasted 3-4 months tops but then I have to pay more for fix it. Ill go find another denstist. $750 for a crown and that with insurance.. Forget it. Not worth it.

He was easygoing and made me feel completely at ease throughout the process. The dental hygienist was an absolute angel, so compassionate and supportive. I truly appreciated how I was treated and spoken to during this appointment, there was no judgment at all, just genuine care.

Dr. Evans volunteered to come in early one morning, but luckily there was a cancellation and they called me. He got the tooth out so I am pain freenow. Will be having some major work in the weeks ahead.

Fantastic experience: I got right in to my Dental hygienist. She's always real sweet and personable. I'm sorry I don't even know her name. It's not on my appointment card or on her. She tells me she can tell I do great home care on my teeth and they look very good. That makes me feel good . It's easier and more comfortable to come here. I'm smiling when I come out of smiles and that's a good thing for me!

I took a sabbatical from dentists in general, because my teeth didn't hurt or bother me until recently when I decided I needed to continue dental health care. They don't take Medicaid but this office is hands down #1! And there's another dentist that is totally awesome. Dr. Evans. Check them out!!!!

I contacted Smiles of Joplin around 4:00 one afternoon, told them of the issue and was having a consult on my issue at 7:30 the next morning with the dentist. The staff was so helpful and the dentist was gentle and kind. I would highly recommend this group to anyone

Negative experience: I am happy with my filling. I am not happy with my upper denture. It still does not fit and hurts my gums and the roof of my mouth. I am moving and I won't be able to return for more work. Thank you.

Negative experience: Smiles tried to call me while I was at work at 3:24p(night shift 3p-2a) the day before my appointment and left a voicemail that I never got the chance to listen to. Tried to call this morning to ask what all I'll need and they told me they'd canceled my appointment because I didn't call them back and confirm. Also got a text from them the same day as the call reminding me when my appointment is but didn't say I needed to confirm. The soonest they can get me in now is June 20th. I've been waiting over half a year to get into a dentist.. Now I wish I'd called them back and I would have if the text they'd sent had told me I needed to confirm. Tried to call again and ask why, but the only answers they could give me were essentially '¯\_(ツ)_/¯ oh well'. I'm sure their services are great, but if you're a night shifter, be aware that this is a requirement. T_T

Fantastic experience: My hygienist Dana was very thorough and very attentive. She made the visit fun. Dr Evans was also very thorough, personable, and friendly. I did not feel like my visit was being rushed, and Dr Evans explained his reasons for treatment in layman’s terms. Very pleased with visit.

Fantastic experience: This dental office is one of the most up to date offices I have ever been too! You can tell they keep the technology updated, and they let you see your x-rays and discuss with you about your health and everything that needs to be done with your teeth. They don’t push for sales, which is super refreshing! Every single staff member is kind, professional, patient and caring. They greet everyone with a smile. The office is even clean and smells amazing! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and everyone there knows how to have a great time and make you laugh during the entire process.

Negative experience: Worst experience ever. I was verbally attacked by the dentist and the office manager for having questions about the extra cost in my treatment plan. the office manager flipped and started yelling at me they were short staffed and she was going off on me because i was arguing with h er. I told her i just didn't care i wanted or of there I asked her and the dentist to please stop yelling at me several times. I should not have let them provoke me but I panicked and freaked out as both were right on my face. Also they are short handed and the dentist is using his wife to help him. She seemed to be totally clueless. They refused to tell me if she was licensed hygienesit. Dentist came out and jumped me for asking about his wife and his credentials. The staff has turned over a lot and overheard one of them say the only had one client for the day. Be careful there is something really wrong there. If that many people have question about there treatment plan and are angry that often then there is a big issue. Iwould wait for the regular dentist to come back. Also the whole staff was sitting around up front. Weird for a dentist office to be so slow. But if you are still going be very careful about what you ask them. The dentist was weird. Wouldn't tell me where he came from either. Also the entire office staff set there and smiled and laughed while she yelled at me. I think she needs a new job. Never have I felt so attacked and afraid of medical professionals like that and I was just asking legitimate questions about my bill and care. Watch your treatment plan too as mine changed from what I was first told. Apparently the signature page did not reflect the same cost I was given when I first went through it. Their reaction To my questions about whether or not the dentists wife is licensed to work on dental office must get asked a lot of they are that defensive. Your teeth are important please be careful where you go for care. This office. Wasnt like this before. I can't stopcrying I just didn't know what to do when I was trying to get out of there and really kinda lost it. And I really didn't deserve what they did. When 2 people are right on top of you yelling at you because they totally were taking out there issues on you, it's really bad. Please just be careful of anything you say or what questions you ask. Or at least wait for the regular dentist to come back. I don't usually use the reviews but this really shook me. That and how funny there staff felt my being attacked was. No one even tried to stop her. Of course they will try to make it look like it was all my fault. But if I'm taking the time to wrote a review believe me out had to be a bad experience

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great care. I was expected to go see them and realized, I was looking forward to my dentist appointment. Wow, never thought I would want to go to the dentist.

Negative experience: I never had anxiety to visit a dentist, until now. The front desk women are wonderful. However, my dentist and hygienist during my wisdom teeth extraction and post-op care were HORRIBLE. It was really sad, coming from a health care worker myself, to see the lack of care for your patients' needs or to truly listen. That's an important part of keeping patients happy and healthy. They were too busy talking to each other during procedure to realize I was trying to let the doctor know I had bone fragments left in my mouth, literally pointing at it. I requested the hygienist to suction the blood and bones from my mouth, for which she refused and said, "it's okay to swallow you can swallow your own blood and bone its safe" . 1- I was choking, 2- that's disgusting, 3- lazy/wrong. You have a suction in your hand, and Im simply asking you to do what you're there for. I came in for 4 post-op visits because of felt fragments and pain, expressed I thought I had an infection, no care to listen from doc. At the end of the day, I paid another dentist hundreds of dollars to get the fragments out and tell me I had a bad infection, which I'd been saying. Update: 4 years later, and I still haven't been able to go back to a dentist because this incident was so scaring.

Fantastic experience: It was an overwhelmingly pleasant experience. I needed an emergency tooth extraction and they got me in same day. Really took their time to make sure I was fully numb before pulling them out. When the dentist was about to start my nerves started getting to me so he offered me nitrous oxide. And waited another 20 min to let it kick in, very professional and very pleasant! I’m so thankful for what they did for me.

Negative experience: I had one of the worst experiences at smiles in joplin……. I walk in knowing I wont have a co- pay and they show me what they were going to do and it added up to 118. Well turns out they tried to charge me co-pay and i told them that I shouldn't have to owe one. They go back and have to play phone tag with my dental insurance since they didn't believe me. They then come back and say oh it’s only 56$ now you were right. I get back and everything goes great and then I go to pay my 56$ and they go that will be $76 and I said I thought it was going to be 56$. They said that I had an outstanding balance of 20$ when they never once sent us a bill or called us.

Fantastic experience: We were very happy with our experience at Smiles. The dentist, hygienist, and other assistants were top-notch. They all went above and beyond to make our trip to the dentist a pleasant experience. So happy we found them!

Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff, Dentist is very nice and compassionate and goes above and beyound for his patient. Honestly the best Dentist and Dental office I've ever been to. If you want people who are very nice respectful and none judgemental go here! I will go to this office for all my dental needs from now on! 10/10 great. Edit: I still stand by this Dr. Platner goes above and beyond for his patients. It's touching to see a dentist that cares this much for his patients. The staff is incredible. Simply the best in the entire 4 state area. Probably the best in the united states!

Negative experience: Be VERY careful if you have insurance. They will add stuff that isn't covered by your insurance just to make extra money. They have scammed me out of thousands of dollars worth of treatment on my teenager.

Fantastic experience: I was terrified to have my tooth pulled. Jason and his team were wonderful!! They made me feel so at ease and comfortable, and Dr. Jason didn't proceed until I was ready and the sedation helped. I highly recommend Dr Platner and his team!!

Fantastic experience: Best tooth removal I’ve ever had. Was really nervous when I went it but Dr took his time giving me the numbing shot. I’ve never had a dentist stay with me the whole time waiting for me to be numb enough to pull the teeth.
