Fantastic experience: Veteran and VA friendly. Best Dentist in town.

Fantastic experience: I recently moved back to Salem, after 3+ years in Southern Oregon. When I visited my previous dental office (Smiles), my records were on file and I was given an appointment to return in a few days. All staff were friendly and efficient. I'm happy to be back.

Fantastic experience: Mario was my hygienist. He did a great job of taking X-rays and then thoroughly explaining to me. He was personable and very caring towards my comfort level with everything he did. He was the best hygienist I’ve ever experienced- and having changed insurance several times, I’ve experienced quite a few hygienists. He was outstanding in kindness and awareness of specific needs I had. He was very empathetic as well.

Negative experience: Tried to call over 30 hours before to cancel a cleaning because work changed my schedule and they charge a 50$ fee for anything over 48 hours. I’m sure this is not totally uncommon but I never seen a 50$ fee on any info from them.

Fantastic experience: Extremely grateful to this place and everyone there. I live in NYC and visit family here in June and December. While visiting a couple of years ago in December I needed a teeth cleaning as my dentist in NYC stopped taking my insurance. I was so impressed by the level of care here during a cleaning with the hygienist (Cassandra) and the dentist (Dr. Smith) that I decided to get my dental cleanings while in town from then on. I had a molar that needed a root canal but have autoimmune conditions which steer me away from root canals in general. In NYC even the holistic dentist was trying to get me to do a root canal or I would have to get my tooth pulled. I told Dr. Smith my concerns and he said they normally try to save the tooth, but that if I wanted to do an implant, the bottom molar would be a good spot. I decided 6 months later to have my tooth pulled and begin the implant process. Thank goodness I decided to go that route because my tooth/gum was really infected. Each step of the way Dr. Smith and his assistant Mary were fantastic. The bone grafting went really well and now after a year I have a beautiful implant and crown. I get regular cleanings here now from Mario and he is beyond wonderful. The cost of an implant is not cheap but reasonable and they broke it down by visit. I was able to use some FSA/HSA money so that helped. The only hiccup was figuring out logistics since I live in NYC, but the front desk and back office helped sort it out. Really thankful for the patience of Dr. Smith and Mary. If I had a dentist like him in NYC, I would have taken care of the issue sooner. I even recommended family to go there. And while this is not a holistic or biological dentistry place, they do not get mad at me when I politely decline fluoride during my cleanings .

Fantastic experience: Excellent cleaning job, first time getting my teeth whitened...great results, and fluoride was painted on my teeth. And to top it off, I was given a pretty, pink Pacific Crest Smiles t-shirt.

Fantastic experience: I was impressed even walking in the door of PC Smiles. The reception area was clean and elegantly decorated. The receptionist was kind and attentive, she had patience while I filled out forms and smiled. I was called back to have my examination done in only a few minutes. My hygienist was informative and explained everything he was doing. He was amazing, thorough, knowledgeable and professional, but funny and friendly as well. He made the process as painless as possible while accomplishing everything that was necessary. Dr. smith was warm, friendly and listened actively. He took time to look at a specific tooth I was concerned with and explained what the problem is, then proceeded to explain what he was planning to fix it. He explained the entire treatment plan to me and what needed to happen first. No one likes to go to the dentist, but if you find yourself in need…PC Smiles is the place to go!!

Fantastic experience: I’m 62 so I’ve been to the dentist a few times. This Dentist is by far the best experience, hands down that I’ve ever had in my lifetime. 10 out of 10. I will recommend them to everyone I know.

As always, having lighthearted conversation with her helped me keep my attention on my gratitude for getting good dental care, which helps me keep the sting out of any sensitive spots. However, on this occasion, I fell asleep and wasn’t able to answer a question. Thank you for being so patient with me today, Maddy! Thank you also for setting up my next appointments so far into the future. Triscia checked me out and was very pleasant when I asked her to take some extra time to look into something for me. Fantastic experience: My first visit as a Veteran's Affair Community Care patient was today. Found them to be wonderful. Yulia, the technician who took charge of me was incredible. Patient with my problems during x-rays, she tried different methods until we found one that was successful, had very gentle hands during cleaning, and thoroughly explained to me each step of the process we were going through. I've never been one who was enamored with the thought of going to the dentist, but I'm really looking forward to going back there for treatments.

Fantastic experience: Pacific Smiles Dental is the most amazing dentist I've ever been, too. The show so much patience with the disabled patients they have. Dr. Mumpower and her team are fantastic! I can't believe say enough about them!

Fantastic experience: My dentist caught things that gentle dental did not. A couple of things for that matter and I only have about 12 teeth on my bottom level. I was amazed so nice from contact on the phone to walking in the door to getting help filling out the forms because I didn’t bring my reading glasses so patient very impressed. Probably the best dental office I’ve ever been to and I’m an old guy.

Fantastic experience: Edit: Updated review. July of 2025 We came to Smiles hoping for a better experience after a series of disappointments at our previous dentist. Unfortunately, our experience with Dr. Mumpower has only added to that frustration. While our first interaction with Dr. Mumpower was actually quite good, things have steadily gone downhill since then. Her demeanor has been consistently condescending and dismissive. This wasn’t just a one-time issue, it’s the same attitude every visit. We came in wanting clear communication, compassion, and a provider who would make us feel comfortable and respected. Instead, we’ve felt talked down to, rushed, and like our concerns were an inconvenience. After trying to give the benefit of the doubt multiple times, it’s clear this is just how she chooses to engage with her patients. Dental visits can already be stressful, especially when coming in with past negative experiences. It’s incredibly disappointing to have those same concerns not only repeated but amplified. We sincerely hope this feedback is taken seriously patients deserve to be treated with respect, not judgment. Lisa is the saving grace and great at her job and the reason why I’m leaving this a 5 star review.

Fantastic experience: I brought my 94 year old grandmother in for her first appointment in years. She is pretty immobile and mostly wheel chair bound which makes appointments difficult. Mario was SO patient, so kind, and so loving to her. We had to move her in and out of wheelchair, using walker, making room for everything. He treated her like she was his own grandmother. Gave her breaks when she needed them, and he did so with joy. We never felt rushed or like we were irritating him. He patiently listened to all of her stories while I wanted to ask her to stop give this man a raise! Also, reception staff and the dentist were kind, patient and helpful! It was both of our first times here and we will be back and I will always recommend! Thank you so much!

Fantastic experience: For someone who is terrified of the dentist and embarrassed by their teeth, this place was so good to me. They all helped put me at ease. From front reception, the exam, consultation, all the way through laying out a plan for future care ....they were fantastic to work with.

Negative experience: Absolutely dishonest. 2 years ago I paid $2400 thru CARE for work on my son. If there was any left at the end of the year, they said they would reimburse it. Last I heard there was 1400 on it. They did not reimburse it. I left it cause my son still needed work. He called and the said there's 500 and it's where they can't reach it so it's pending. I do not recommend them. Be careful I've had other issues with their accounting. They have terrible dentures. I showed the tech a Crack on mine within the month of getting them, but he wouldn't do anything. It was Nebaker

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to Smiles Dental for 15 years. I love to come there because everyone is so nice and friendly. Madelyn is very very sweet she makes the process go so easy, she is very gentle. Cassandra too is very gentle and I liked her too. I never had any problems with Smiles Dental. I recommend anyone looking for a good dentist place should come to Smiles Dental. Also Mario is very gentle and has done a great job with the cleaning of my teeth on my last visit. Negative experience: I waited months for an appointment. I finally got to the first appointment. Two weeks later I get a letter stating they're not supporting veteran clients anymore. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT VETERANS. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!

Fantastic experience: Update as of April 2025: Still experiencing great service, including the Hygienists there doing cleanings. Updating my post a year later 2024: Still having great experiences with Smiles. From getting crowns to my dental cleanings. Dentist took real care and explained what he was doing as he did it which i like. He made sure i was comfortable. The smell of the drilling is awful and so he had the hygienist have the suction nearby to suck up the smell. Great experience.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and very nice people, I got helped immediately. The only issue is that my insurance will no longer be partnering with them, so this is my one and only visit. But everything went splendidly, and all my questions were answered, and I enjoyed my time there, as the staff was very friendly

She diligently worked to find me the soonest appointment. I called several offices to make an appointment but no one was willing to work me in. She was the only one that made me feel understood and heard and was willing to find me an appointment. If you want to a dental office that cares and will advocate to make sure you are properly taken care of......go and see Triscia. This is the best dental office in Salem.

Fantastic experience: Struggle no more, Smiles Dental is amazing! They collaborate with the VA network insurance. My cleaning was painless and quick. The dental hygienist is extremely professional and gentle as can be. She’s an expert when it comes to maintenance of the teeth and gums all while cracking funny jokes to make the time pass with ease. I took her advice for my gums and now they don’t smell like old meat, yay! Also, my crowns are holding up great with the new modern technology offered here I don’t have to look or feel discomfort anymore. Thanks, Maddy and thank you Smiles Dental.

Positive experience: In comparison to my previous dentist this one is a solid three stars. I had an extraction and bridge done in one shot. I started having problems a couple of days later and when I called in for help, both dentists were out of the office for a four day weekend. I understand people need vacations but I also understand that there should have been a prescriber available during that time. I experienced some of the worst pain I've ever had those four days. Motrin & Tylenol were not cutting it but I just had to suffer in pain that whole time. I'm better now thankfully, but that whole experience has made me hesitant to go back. When I first came in I had to fill out numerous forms, many of which asked what they could do to make me more comfortable and ease dental anxiety. I was explicit in what works for me, but when it came to my procedure, none of those suggestions were honored. I kind of felt ignored like I was just supposed to lay there and suck it up. I will say the nitrous helped though.

Fantastic experience: I'm a person that hates going to the dentist because of issues in my childhood, when the dentist would drill my teeth without numbing me properly and not listening to me when I said it hurt. They always said it just pressure I was feeling. Wrong. So trust has always been in short supply when it comes to dentists. However, I have found a home at Smiles Dentistry. They've taken great care me that's for sure. They listen and do everything to make me comfortable. Be it my teeth cleanings to the crowns I've had, they've away been concerned, friendly, and professional. There work is great and they stand by it. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I am so happy i took the chance because Mary was extremely compassionate and caring. She made me feel heard and taken care of. My anxiety completely went away the more the appointment progressed. Negative experience: Sad. This place used to be awesome, but is terrible now. they lost their lead dentist before covid and ever since this place has been a nightmare. I stopped going after I was in for the third time for them to repare a filling they did that kept falling out. I was sitting in the chair waiting for the third repair to begin when they brought me a form to sign that basically said the weren't responsible for their work failing and needing to be fixed and that future fixes i would have to pay for out-of-pocket. I stood up and left. I should have got a medical malpractice suit going against them, but, I'm just not litigious. They have constant dentist turnover and for 3 years of visits I didn't see the same person twice. This last part was either an honest mistake or fraud. They kept billing my insurance for those dental repairs they had to perform on their faulty work. A fact i only learned after leaving. They never gave me paperwork on that point, just did it on the sly to cover their expences. I say fraud. You decide. Avoid for your own health and sanity.

Negative experience: I have continued to go to Smiles dental despite the corporate/sales feeling, because I really like my regular dental hygienist. I have always had good oral health and have taken good care of my teeth my whole life. Today I had to have some fillings, which I actually questioned if I really needed since I always feel like I’m getting “upsold” or meeting someone’s quota for the day. I have honestly never felt so manhandled as I did at this appointment! I was shocked at how rough and careless they were with me. I’ve considered going back to a private practice dentist for a while and today solidified my desire. I felt like a car on an assembly line and I did not appreciate it at all.
