The cleanings are gentle,but very thorough and amazingly fast. I've had multiple crowns needed and they have been a perfect bite and color match. The communication and comfort is top notch!!!

Fantastic experience: I was searching for a new dentist and read an overwhelming amount of positive reviews for Southern Dental. I don’t recall seeing any negative reviews at all. Therefore, I decided to reach out for a new patient appointment. I spoke to Nina, and she offered me a next day appointment due to a cancelation. She was very professional, courteous and friendly via the phone, and her demeanor was the same in person when I arrived for my appointment. She even followed up with my prior dental office to obtain an update on info I requested them to email Southern Dental, that they hadn’t received. She went an extra mile that wasn’t required to help me. I was there less than five minutes when Nury, the hygenist escorted me to her chair to begin services. She was also very friendly and did a great job cleaning my teeth. Afterwards, Dr. Murphy Maddox came in to greet me and check my teeth, X-rays and mouth for cancers. His chair-side manner was very professional, and friendly. He spent time and engaged conversation to learn about me and asked if I had any questions. Fortunately, I had no dental issues to be addressed. I look forward to my routine visit in six months. All I can say is the reviews did not lie. I completely agree this is a great dental practice! I highly recommend this practice if you’re in need or search for a new dental practice. A must try…and I plan to continue using this practice forever. Fantastic experience: UPDATE: I wrote this but apparently never posted so I did so today! I still see them every 6 months, and the "deep cleaners" every 6 months, rotating between them on a 3-month schedule. I'm sooo much healthier now! I had a little problem of bleeding gums pop up and I called & got worked in that morning! Protocols for COVID were followed precisely, and I felt comfortable the whole time. Got a quick x-ray & they determined that I need to be scheduled for a deep cleaning....as expected. I got a nice injection of antibiotics & it has solved the pain problem, and I'm holding steady until my next appointment. Couldn't ask for a nicer staff, friendlier doctor, or more pleasant experience for a dental issue!

Fantastic experience: I was given an appointment less than 24 hours after I called. When arriving I was greeted warmly, and within minutes I was escorted to a room where a very friendly and humorous dental hygienist took bite-wing X-rays and proceeded to do a thorough job of cleaning. When I made the appointment, I mentioned that a week earlier I’d lost a small porcelain filling in tooth #11. When Dr. Drayton Smith came into the room to check the X-rays, he looked at tooth #11 and said he had time to repair the defect. I was brought into another room and the work proceeded. It was painless, and I enjoyed being with Dr. Smith and his assistant. They were finished in an hour, and I went home very happy! A highly recommended dental practice!

I hadn’t been to the dentist in years and they made me feel so comfortable. They remembered me at my follow ups even if they only worked on me once. They answer any questions I have, and make sure that I understand options before I leave. The office staff is also wonderful and polite. My schedule changes every 6 months at work, and I often have to call to reschedule a previously scheduled appointment because of those changes. They are always patient and accommodating. They send reminders to text and e-mail if you ask, so that you don't miss an appointment. They even got me in for an emergency appointment when a crown came off, and helped me get an emergency appointment for my husband (who wasn't even an established patient). Could not recommend them more.

If you have any anxieties about having dental work done, you should go see Dr. Drayton Smith. He will make you feel extremely comfortable and talk to you as if you have been friends for years. They cater to your every need and give you some time if you need a break during a procedure. They don’t make you feel like you are a burden or some crazy person for having anxiety about dental work. Let’s face it- no one “loves” to go to the dentist. Since I started seeing Dr. Smith and his team, I really don’t mind going now.

Fantastic experience: I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found Southern Dental Birmingham, but I'll try! Negative dental experiences in the past coupled with sensitivity, made me feel apprehensive when it came to regular dental upkeep, and hopelessly dread my future dental needs. I have been coming to Southern Dental for regular appointments for about two years now. Dr. Maddox, Megan (my hygienist), and the whole team make me feel heard and cared for. They are attentive and efficient. Through the applied knowledge and empathy this dental group has, I left today having had zero sensitivity during a cleaning for the first time ever. I told Megan that I felt truly cared for, which is something I never thought I'd say at a dental appointment. I would 100% recommend to my nearest and dearest.

Negative experience: I’ve been using this dental clinic for over 20 years. After my experience today, I will probably choose another dentist. I waited for over 45 minutes to be told that the retainer I was to pick up wasn’t even sent for processing. I had already paid for half. Now I have to wait another two weeks. I am not a happy customer!

He does Dental blocks for my Electrolysis clients for upper and or lower lip work and many of them have changed to Dr. Smith for all of their dental needs!
