Fantastic experience: Follow-up appointment for a new "tooth" crown in this office. I have impressive tori in my mouth which were passed down to me by my mom. They were able to shape the molds to make impressions without hurting me. Great care and patient staff. For me, it was pain free. So grateful!!!

Fantastic experience: My visit to Tidewater Dental Arts was excellent. Dr. Stelmack is friendly, very knowledgeable and gave great answers to my questions. She also has a very gentle touch, which I really appreciate. The hygienist, Elaine, was very friendly, put me at ease, and did a super job. They were right on time and I didn't have to wait. All in all, I am impressed and very comfortable trusting them with my dental care. Update: I called the office yesterday morning about a problem I was having and they got me in the same day! As usual, everyone was very nice and efficient, everything was nice and clean and Dr. Stelmack is excellent!

Negative experience: Staff really think bc they're rated highly as a practice that they can talk crazy to and about patients, from the front desk to the dental hygienists. Don't let them trap you in a state of upset because they will try your patience. There's a reason HRVA is known for having unprofessional "professionals."

Positive experience: Up until around June 2025, I was a patient who used this clinic’s services. There were fillings, deep cleaning, and a crown. Everyone did a good, professional job. However, it seems that Dr. Stemlach doesn’t greet patients — as if you’re not even their client, even though their income depends on patients. And then, one day, they simply tell you: “We no longer accept your insurance (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shild).” And that’s it — you’re no longer a patient. I wonder if it’s about a certain quota of patients they can have — and once they run out of bigger treatments, they professionally “arrange” it so they no longer accept your insurance, which had worked perfectly fine until now. Of course,definitely I’ll check! But it doesn’t matter anymore — thank you, and have a nice one.

Negative experience: I was not satisfied at all. He took 160 dollars, took an X-ray and sent me to another hospital without doing anything. He did not do the root canal treatment himself but took my money.

Fantastic experience: Had a dental emergency, they got me scheduled 2 hours later and had me on my way to a permanent solution within 48hrs. Amazing team. 5 stars is not enough.

They don't DENTAL SHAME Either if you have a cavity - UNFORTUNATELY, i did not get a chance to sit in the waiting room because as soon as i checked in they took be right back! Fantastic experience: I am deeply afraid of the dentist. I’ve avoided dental care for years because of traumatic experiences through the years. Today, I felt heard, cared for, and respected. I needed to stop multiple times and at one point my blood pressure spiked and Dr. Stelmach and her team handled everything gracefully, efficiently, and with immense kindness. This also is not my first visit here. It’s very apparent that this is just how this practice operates and I am incredibly thankful to have found such a wonderful Dentist.

Negative experience: Staff was professional. However, they had problems with taking my XRAYS and I felt as if they had none or little experienced people trying to take XRAYS. I counted at least 20 XRAYS they did which felt pretty uncommon. One lady started and couldnt get it done, then another more experienced person seemed to replace her and take over. The office appeared clean but as I left the office and walked down the hall about 75 Feet I noticed a dead mouse in the entrance in a glue trap.

Fantastic experience: My visit to the dentist was scheduled on time and very thorough. I originally went in for a midyear cleaning, but during the visit, they discovered I needed a root canal. They quickly scheduled my follow-up by providing me with a referral, and I’ll be returning for the additional work soon. The cost estimates were high, but not unexpected. Overall, my experience was positive

Fantastic experience: Due to several cross country moves I have been an established patient at 7 different dentists in the last 15 years. So when I tell you that Tidewater Dental goes above and beyond - I absolutely mean every single word. I have never before felt like my dentist actually remembers me between visits (and maybe Dr. Stelmach doesn’t, but she at least takes the time to review my chart before she comes in for my exam so she knows who I am and what my issues are, so I feel like more than just a patient account number). I’ve seen a few different hygienists here due to scheduling issues and have yet to be disappointed. This is the first dental office I’ve been to that explains what they’re doing and why - they also do some oral health screenings that I’ve not experienced at any other dentist but I am very glad that Dr. Stelmach’s team does. I highly recommend this office, this dentist, this team of hygienists and office staff - together they make for a wonderful experience that always leaves me feeling like I’m in great hands.

Fantastic experience: From start to finish, the experience was phenomenal. Horrible dental anxiety. Probably a rough patient when it comes to dental anxiety. But the hygienist was gentle, kind, caring and treated me as if I was her own. (That’s means the world for me) Dr. Stelmach was gentle, soft spoken and kind. She put me at ease and was very sympathetic. She even finds a way to give compliments. Absolutely wonderful bedside manner. Even the front office staff were kind and helpful, suggested things as if I was their own and were very understanding. Phenomenal dental office!

Fantastic experience: I was already a big fan of this practice, but today’s visit pushed it over the top! I had recently had a tooth pulled for the first time in my life and was there to get a bridge to fill the gap. I expected it to be a painful procedure but just the opposite occurred. I barely felt the Novacaine injections and felt nothing during the lengthy procedure. I got to meet a new dental Assistant who is nothing less than outstanding. She explained everything she was going to do before she did it and explained everything I would feel before it happened. I walked out with a temporary bridge and Canal eat normally again. I couldn’t be more grateful. The professionalism of the office staff and the Expertise of the clinical staff will have me coming back again.

Fantastic experience: The ladies at Tidewater dental, from the front desk to the dentists are the absolute best. They are informative, patient and highly skilled. On top of all that, every single one of them are so sweet and kind. I absolutely hated the dentist because of a past experience. I relayed that information to the ladies at Tidewater dental and it’s like they made it their mission to change that feeling for me. From my cleanings, root canals and scheduling nothing has been below 5 stars.

Positive experience: The hygienist was super personable and talkative, unfortunately I have been in pain since she drug the prophy cup across lower lip fold by the frenulum instead of my teeth. I was not offered any fluoride during my visit which has always been offered at any and all dentists I have been to.

They sent me reminders every couple of days to make sure I wouldn’t forget or miss my appointment (which is great if you have a busy schedule), they totally respect your appointment time too, and they are so respectful.
