Fantastic experience: AMAZING experience!! My 6 yr old had to get a cavity fixed and Dr. Hanks and his team were amazing all the way through! My son has pretty severe anxiety and Dr. Hanks and his assistant Elexus did such a good job being patient with him as he took time to wrap his mind around everything involved for the procedure. There was definitely still tears and a lot of nerves, but my son was able to get everything he needed to done today because of the patience shown by everyone involved. Highly recommend Happy Tooth!

Negative experience: Pushes “airway” dentistry. Dental hygienist here! I went to this office because it is adorable but me along with everyone I know were all told our 3 year olds (and other ages) needed a referral for airway development and that dentist is his wife. After going to a different one they did not recommend anything at such a young age. The staff has a high turnover over and the two times I went they didn’t know how to work the polisher. Just a weird experience each time.The doctor is not as warm as he is in the videos. He’s just kind of in and out and seemed like he didn’t want to be there. Cute office but not a great experience

Fantastic experience: Taking a special needs kid to the dentist is scary and stressful, but Tasia and Maila were so kind, patient, and helpful, and Dr Hanks was awesome as well, with great advice and knowledge. The whole experience was great, and I won’t take my kids anywhere else.

Fantastic experience: Sarah was so patient and friendly with my 6 and 4 year old. Loved the waiting room, kept them entertained, and cant forget the basketball court!!

Negative experience: As a mother who cares deeply about holistic wellness and trauma-informed care, my experience with Happy Tooth was incredibly disappointing and disheartening. Yes, the space is designed to be aesthetically fun for kids — but for parents seeking true dental health, I urge you to look beyond the surface. Despite concerns with visible decay, they did not brush or clean my child’s teeth at the initial visit or the second…. Instead of offering support or exploring root causes, I was shamed and told my breastmilk was responsible for his decay — a narrative that has been widely debunked by current research. This kind of medical gaslighting is not only unhelpful — it is harmful and deeply distressing to already vulnerable parents doing their best. To make matters worse: • They offered candy and soda while we waited — at a pediatric dental clinic. • Their branded toothpaste contains sugar — which completely undermines their credibility on even the most basic oral health education. • When questioned, there was little curiosity or openness — only dismissiveness. I left feeling unseen, blamed, and unsupported — and sadly, I’ve learned I’m not alone in that experience. Parents: trust your gut. Dig deeper than the marketing. If you value root-cause care, respect, and integrity, this may not be the place for your child’s long-term wellness. I share this not to discredit the years of experience the provider may have, but to give an honest account of how the care was received. One or two appointments are often enough to make a lasting impression — and this one did. I’ve since found dental care that feels more aligned with our values and offers respectful, informed, and empowering support for both parent and child.

Negative experience: These people never answer the phone or call you back. I have called multiple times and left multiple messages regarding an appointment and they refuse to call me back. If you want a dentist who refuses to answer the phone go ahead and pick these guys.

Fantastic experience: Tiara is THAT girl. She makes coming to the dentist a party. Dr. Hanks is also so great with the kids. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and to be around people who want your best interest is what parents want. You won’t regret making any sort of long drive here - Happy Tooth is worth it

Fantastic experience: The first thing my 3.5yo said when we got home was, “It was so fun to go to the doctor!” The staff is amazing. The vibe can’t be beat. Steve and Jose (or Jorge—I’m so sorry I forgot which is was!) we so kind and friendly when my girls were scared of the X-rays and so gentle with their cleanings. Dr. Hanks is so relaxed and helpful. It’s well worth the drive from Utah county to me to know my kids’ early dental experiences aren’t traumatizing, even though they’re nervous. Thank you Happy Tooth!

Fantastic experience: We were so hesitant about finding a good dentist for our 5 year old because we wanted it to be a good experience. Right off the bat we are greeted with a friendly face and a fun waiting room. Then Sarah our assistant was so kind the entire time and was great to converse with. Dr. Hanks answered all of our questions and left us feeling confident in proceeding with treatment. Would highly recommend!!

It is such a fun place for our boys and I swear they wouldn’t mind staying all day, if we let them. Fantastic experience: I have taken my son to plenty of other dental offices and he has cried at every single one. But Dr. Hanks and his dental assistant Tiara provided him with excellent care and made my son feel important and tought him valuable lessons on how to properly clean his teeth and the basketball room that he got to shoot hoops in after his appointment was the best part. He will not stop asking about when he will go back for his next appointment. This place is awesome and Dr. Hanks is doing wonderful things with making kids feel special and not scared of the dentist. Fantastic experience: We love everything about Happy Tooth. From the time you walk in the door the experience is all about the kids. We had Elexus today as our dental assistant and she was fabulous. Our two year old was afraid to do the X-rays of his teeth so she worked with us and allowed moms to help with the process. She explained the fluoride and brushing teeth process to our 4 year old to help her. Again fabulous dentist experience for our little kids. Wish I had this when my older kids were younger.

Positive experience: Do not fall for the airway specialist pitch! I have a group of mom friends who have all been to this dentist, and they all have been pitched the same thing. I asked my pediatrician about it as a gut check, and without even telling her which dentist I went to, she called them out and said they are the only ones pushing this and it could cost thousands of dollars. If you are concerned about your kids breathing/airway, please get a second opinion before going with happy tooth. Your kids might love it there, but man, this feels like a cash grab!

Negative experience: If you value your time and money, stay far away. They do not answer calls - ever. It is hard to get someone on the phone. They fail to call you, even when they say they will via text. On top of bad communication - I am extremely disappointed with this company. I feel completely taken advantage of. The billing department didn’t bother to check that I was in-network with their office, prior to doing a LOT of work. When I called they said “that’s not their job and they just check if the insurance is active”. Why did I sign an agreement estimating what my insurance would pay when they failed to check if my insurance was even in network with their company? I learned a hard lesson and I’m beyond frustrated with this office. I have never once encountered a dental office that doesn’t check if my insurance is in network.

Fantastic experience: Elexus was our dental assistant today and my daughter loved her! The office wifi was down today and you would have never known because they are so good at engaging with the kiddos and making it such a fun experience!

Fantastic experience: Awesome Pediatric Dentist! The staff are friendly, patient and super helpful! My son was quite squirmy for his X-rays, he was being far too silly. And the girls that helped him were so patient and they got the X-rays. I was very impressed with all of their services! They have a super fun office too! Lots of things for kids to do while you wait. So glad we decided to go to this dentist office! I would definitely recommend them to anyone!

Negative experience: Really bummed. Every time I’ve tried to call to make an appointment, they are either closed or no one answers the phone. I’d get texts to leave a message or text the number but it didn’t go very far for a follow up. Ended up going with another dentist that was a bit closer for us. Based on all the good reviews I really wanted this to happen. Too bad they don’t answer their phone! Not a good sign from the start.

Fantastic experience: This is our fourth year coming and we still love it. Cynthia and Elexus explained all the tools to my kids in a funny way. In general, all the staff is awesome. They helped my kids to feel calm and happy during their treatment or cleaning. Also, we love that they have space to relax while we are waiting and that they really care about each individual. We are also grateful with Dr. Kara and her assistant for helping my kid with her mouth breathing and grinding issue.

Fantastic experience: Brought my two and four year old to Happy Tooth for their first teeth cleanings. Couldn’t say enough good things about Dr. Hanks, Lexi and Cynthia. They were patient, kind, informative and made sure the kids had a great, first dentist appointment.

Fantastic experience: We went to Happy Tooth for a second opinion on serious decay on my 2 year olds teeth. The last dentist had laid the mom guilt on pretty hard for me "letting this happen". So I was expecting a similar experience. Dr Hanks was the complete opposite. He was kind and assured me this happens, and it was something that could be fixed. He got us scheduled in for treatment a week later so we didn't have to wait a month like everywhere else. I think most offices only do sedation monthly where as Happy Tooth does it weekly so availability is much better. All of the staff there were really nice. I know prior reviews said they can be hard to get ahold of but that wasn't the case for us, they answered right away every time I called (which was several times). Both Dr Hanks and Dr Duckworth were great interacting with my toddler and helping him be calm and have a good experience, and very reassuring for our anxiety as parents having our kid go under anesthesia. Price wise the cost was within $200 of what our first quote at the other place was, so very comparable. All in all I have nothing but positive things to say and I recommend them to anyone with kids. 10/10

Fantastic experience: Shelby is always so kind and helpful when we come to the office. She is patient and compassionate with my 6 kids when we come in. She is efficient and always has something fun for the kids to do their myofunctional therapy with. She makes it fun for the kids and that makes a huge difference! We love Shelby and Dr. Kara!

Negative experience: We didn't have a good experience here unfortunately. It seemed really nice through the videos etc. My son liked the play rooms, but they didn't do a good job at all and the vibe wasn't chill. My son needed his tooth pulled and originally this dentist and 2 other dentists from different practices didn't see any cavities. We chose Happy Tooth because they seemed like the best value and fun environment, not the case. Last minute before the procedure they told us there were 8 cavities! (also claiming that they missed them originally, apparently easy to miss if no other dentist saw them either) They seemed really rushed and annoyed so we went ahead and got them filled while my son was under anesthesia figuring it would be better than coming back and getting them later. Within a month one filling fell out, which if he hadn't been under anesthesia I might understand. They also, when asked, didn't allow me in the room during the operation while he was under, before or after anesthesia which made me really uncomfortable. My son had a gaping hole in the back of his mouth where the filling fell out and they said they couldn't get him in for 2 months to fill it. It wasn't until I got the insurance company involved that they offered a sooner date, but at that point I wasn't interested in trusting his work. I went somewhere else to get it filled, they had me in the room with him, gave him a drink he passed out and I sat in the room with him the whole time... I've read other reviews that say he seemed entitled and didn't connect well with their kids; I would agree with this as well. The x-ray tech was nice and the anesthesiologist, who was not in house, was nice too. Don't buy into the hype of the advertising. Stick with a classic and trusted style pediatric dentist who doesn't spend more time on their social media presence than improving their practice. Their moto "all feelings are welcome" is bs, not a safe space for feelings or great dental work... don't trust the last minute offers/ discounts either. Just go somewhere else.

Fantastic experience: I recommend this to all parents. If you have not been here before, please do so. The staff is so friendly when you walk in and attend to all needs in a fast an professional manner. I want to thank Cynthia and Elexus for all the help, especially. Thanks for everything guys. Can't wait to come back.

Fantastic experience: We LOVE our dentist. Everything I hated as a kid about going to the dentist is opposite here. My kids are getting super gentle, super sweet dental hygienists — who don’t give them a hard time about flossing or make weird comments. The front lobby is super fun. Disney plus while they watch, and not to mention everyone there has a ton of swag. Dr. Hanks is super cool and makes the kids feel super comfortable. Love it!!

Fantastic experience: 10/10 experience, the lobby was entertaining for the kids during the wait, which was nice and quick. The xray tech was super quick & very nice. Cynthia (the dental hygienist) was super friendly! Very good with kids, has a very warm demeanor which helped keep my kids calm before the dentist came in! Dr. Hanks was great, he took the time to discuss different options for my kids, he was patient & kind, noticed things other dentists had never pointed out. Looking forward to continuing to take my girls here!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Kara and Shelby have both been great to work with. They are both really good with my kids and always have a lot of patience with them which is a breath of fresh air. It’s great to see my kids mouths get wider and know that they will breathe better because of it!

Fantastic experience: Update 2025 We started myofunctional therapy aka airway at happy tooth! We get to see miss Shelby and she helps the kids with their exercises! She is the best! My kids just love her so much. She is so patient and great at demonstrating and helping them work on strengthening their tongue. The things she comes up with are really fun and creative. If you have mouth breathers I highly recommend airway dentistry! 2023 Took my kids for their 6 month dental visit today We love HAPPY TOOTH. I don’t live super close but I will tell you it’s worth the drive. We’ve been coming here for almost 2 years now. And I won’t go anywhere else even though my area is full of pediatric dentists. The staff is always really good with my 1,4 &6 yo. My son has a hyper sensitive gag reflex and a few sensory things- they always take extra care to not make him puke/ gag or make him anxious. We bought 3 of dr. hanks toothbrushes today and after the first try tonight I was surprisingly impressed at how good it is. I thought I was just buying another buzz buzz kind of toothbrush for the kids - i don’t know anything about toothbrushes but it’s different. Plus the colors are fun To sum it up, we have always have a positive experience during our appointments. The office is fun, the staff is great, it’s always very efficient. We always feel taken care of and welcomed We even had a tooth emergency last summer and we were taken care of!

Positive experience: This is for myofunctional—I would just say don’t come here unless you live close. I have a forty minute drive and took two wrong turns, so we were late. When we arrived we were told they have a 10 minute late policy and I’d have to reschedule. I understand why people have these policies, but it is frustrating that I had to wait 30 minutes to get in for my first appointment, and yet if I am ten minutes late we just have to turn around and go home. It would be nice if there was a one time forgiveness, or if they would just do what they can in the time they have before the next appointment. If I hadn’t already paid for the full treatment plan I would just stop coming but I guess I’m stuck now.

Fantastic experience: The only place to take kids for the best dental experience. We have been going for a couple years now and it’s always fun tear-free experience! The staff is amazing and we were so happy with how Cynthia explained things and it made it fun for our child!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing. My 1 year old managed to damage his front teeth and after seeing a dentist that was not helpful we were recommended to happy tooth and Dr. Hanks is the best. Turns out our little had no enamel on his 4 front teeth we had to put him under anesthesia and get X-rays and went with the recommended treatment and the team here was amazing. They listen to you and answer all of your questions and support you’re decision as a parent. I can’t recommend them enough.

Positive experience: We’ve been coming here since they initially opened in 2020 when I was looking for a good pediatric dentist for one of my children who is on the spectrum. This past month my 4 year old came in for a cleaning and xrays. The dentist (Dr. Hanks) spotted a cavity that needed to be sadly filled. As a parent needing to do this for the first time, I was very nervous about it. I was extra nervous that there weren’t hardly any reviews on here about the filling experience for littles here. Dr Hanks had a good attitude about it and that we would give it a go. Said it was 50/50 chance we’d been successful at this age getting it filled the traditional way. Our tech Jorge really was so good and was a very important part of the process to be successful. I felt like I was watching a thriller…The hardest part was that fish they put in the mouth to keep everything in place and allow the dentist to be successful with the filling. I think it made my kid feel like part of his breathing was compromised and is a huge sensory load to expect for a child (we reminded him to breathe through his nose) We did laughing gas and a movie to distract which worked until the very end when they were trying to finalize placing and curing the filling. Ultimately they all managed to get through it and finish! Dr Hanks had a good way of talking with my son to help him understand what was happening and made sure we had lots of sugar free suckers for afterward while he was still numb in order to avoid biting and causing a sore. I was very pleased with how the experience ultimately went. My main frustration with this office is the hours. It’s a pediatric dentist and the hours are somewhat limited and generally school hours. There needs to be some after school availability to accommodate this population.

Fantastic experience: Elexus and Tiara were so good with my two boys. They also let me know the cost of things in advance so that I could make decisions on what we could do during this check up. No pressure to do it all today either. They talked to my kids like normal humans which I appreciated! So friendly and calming. They both made this appointment a lovely experience. I’m so grateful.

When I told him we were going to the dentist again, he told me he didn't want to go. But after our appointment, he kept saying that he didn't want to leave! The only tears we had were when I had to pull my son from the basketball room to go home Dr Hanks and his team are super gentle and will never force anything on your child. The office is full of bright colors, child-size furniture, and play spaces that make going to the dentist a positive experience. I'm so grateful to have found Happy Tooth!

Negative experience: Originally came to Happy Tooth because of all the great reviews, and it seemed like a great experience for my toddler. The experience was great for her, as it was easy. But after 2 visits and some fillings, we were told that the other cavities in her mouth were so small, they were no issue and no action needed to be taken. I didn't feel right about this, went to another pediatric dentist where I was told that her cavities were almost down to her root. My 3 year old had to be put under general anesthesia to have the issues in her teeth fixed, (including the previous fillings done at Happy Tooth as they were botched) Issues that were easily preventable, if we weren't told that the cavities were just too small to cause any issue. The atmosphere is great and cute for kiddos, but other pediatric dentists will provide a great experience for kids and better treatment plans for their little teeth.

Fantastic experience: We love Happy Tooth! The waiting room is a good time for the kids until we get called back with their awesome dental assistants. Elexus was so sweet with my girls! She explained all of the tools and what they feel like to them before using them. My girls weren’t nervous at all because of her. Thank you Elexus!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best pediatric dentist I've found in SLC. Our previous pediatric dentist was Salt Lake Pediatric Dentistry - Cottonwood Heights. They were amazing, but Happy Tooth far outshines them in relatability to children and parents. Children have plenty of space to be kids. Boredom does not exist at Happy Tooth. Kids are constantly engaged in available activities. Kids and parents are also welcomed by a fantastic and colorful display of aesthetics.

Fantastic experience: I brought my 5 year old and was very pleased with our experience. Sarah did a great job making my son feel very comfortable and excited to come back. I would highly recommend Happy Tooth especially Sarah to be your assistant!

Fantastic experience: I recently brought my kids into Happy Tooth for the first time. The girl at the front desk was so helpful and made the kids feel comfortable about seeing the doctors. She took a polaroid of the whole family since it was our first visit and everyone there was so helpful and patient. Overall great experience at Happy Tooth!!

Fantastic experience: We love Happy Tooth! Elexus was so patient with my younger kiddos and let them feel comfortable and safe with cleanings. It’s such a fun and relaxing atmosphere and my anxious kids have loved coming here! I wish all doctors + dentists had this vibe. It would make appts so much easier!

Fantastic experience: I live 50 min from happy tooth and every time an appointment comes up I’m like, why do I keep going when it’s so far away? And then I get there and my daughter has the best time. The play area at the beginning is something she remembers even though she’s only 3 and she looks forward to. The staff is amazing! Dr. Hanks is so knowledgeable and I really love the way they operate. My daughter is an extremely hesitant, shy girl and at our visit yesterday, she didn’t want to do xrays (per usual). We went and got the cleaning first and Tiara was AMAZING. She had her smiling, giggling and going along with everything. It was the first time they introduced their instruments with the cleaning (not just a regular toothbrush) and my daughter didn’t even hesitate to let her which I was absolutely shocked at. And then we went back to the xray room and she jumped right into the chair. I was seriously in shock. I think I owe it all to Tiara for making her so comfortable and brave.

Fantastic experience: This was our first dentist appointment and I’m so happy we chose happy tooth! Tiara made my son so comfortable from the X-rays to the brushing and was sweet and funny too. Dr Hanks made me feel comfortable and confident in his treatment plan for my son in a non judgmental way. The front desk crew was also amazing. I can’t recommend happy tooth enough!

Fantastic experience: My kids began airway treatment with Dr. Kara 4 months ago and the results we are seeing is insane! My 5 year old finally stopped wetting the bed and sleeps completely through the night. My 3 year old has stopped snoring and mouth breathing all together. Sarah is so delightful and helpful every appointment we have. I would highly recommend this place!
