South Gaston Pediatric Dentistry

Negative experience: I’m disappointed with how billing was handled at South Gaston Pediatric Dentistry. During what was presented as a routine cleaning, a panoramic X-ray was taken. While the X-ray may have appeared in the images shown afterward, there was no explanation that it was non-routine, might not be covered by insurance, or would result in an out-of-pocket charge. Had that been explained, I would have declined it. Weeks later, I received a text message requesting payment via a shortened link, which felt unprofessional and concerning from a security standpoint. There was no prior verbal discussion or clear financial consent. When I called the office to discuss the charge and asked whether it could be written off due to the lack of disclosure, my request was refused with no willingness to reconsider. I understand insurance limitations, but families deserve clear communication, informed consent, and secure billing practices, especially in a pediatric setting. Unfortunately, this experience has made me question the transparency and professionalism of this practice.

Fantastic experience: The staff and doctor were super friendly.

Negative experience: If I could rate zero stars I would. My 3 daughters had an appointment in may of 2025. They did X-rays of my children’s teeth and everything. I was told their teeth looked great and they’ve been doing a good job brushing. November came for their second cleaning, I was told that my older daughter’s cavity had progressed. I was confused and asked what progressed? I was furious because I was told their teeth looked opposite in May. The fact that I was not aware of any cavity and for the dentist to just let my child go 6 months as if the cavity will go away on it’s own is insane. So an appointment was scheduled that day to take care of it. Everyone in the office this morning was extremely rude today. Not one smile except for the sweet dental assistant and dentist that took care of my daughter in November. I was also told that day that my insurance covered it. So I wasn’t given anything to sign or anything to pay nor was I told I would be responsible for paying anything. Today after my daughter had her procedure, I was told I have a credit of $46 remaining balance of $300 and something. I’m so over this place. Will be finding a new dentist for my children. The office manager sucks as well. She has no clue what she’s doing in there.

Fantastic experience: We are always happy coming here all the ladies working with my kids are very patient and kind to them and the office staff is great with scheduling.

Fantastic experience: I had taken both of my daughters in for treatment on same day. This was our very first visit to this office. From start to finish there was no guessing game on what was happening. From filling out all intake paperwork which was effortless to the actual procedures performed on the girls. All of the staff were so easy to talk to and they made you feel at home. The girls and I felt like we had went there for years in the end. They made sure the girls were comfortable throughout their procedures. We drove over an hour to this particular dentist office and at this point I do not want my children going anywhere else. And did I mention I waited less than 10 minutes in the waiting area and then the dentist immediately started once we were back and had both girls done in an hour. Amazing! It was such a great experience. 10/10

Fantastic experience: My 3 year old second visit to the dentist and the staff was so kind and friendly. He was so nervous before and by the end he was excited and had a great time.

Negative experience: Highway robbery! My job provides stellar dental insurance. A crown at a family dentist is ~$120 out of pocket. Multiple times with multiple children the bill for a few tiny fillings is hundreds of dollars. They even wanted to put crowns on the top front two teeth of a 6 year old. This place is way over priced and is will do anything to make a dollar. Find anyone else to work on your child's teeth. They will try to guide you to do things that just do not make sense and to top it off bill you far more than anyone else to do it.

Fantastic experience: This was my first time there. Front desk staff was nice and helpful. The staff and doctor made my daughter feel comfortable. She is 3 years old. They gave her a certificate for being a great patient. And of course, stickers, toothpaste, and toothbrush. She was happy when she came home and excited that she had gone. We will definitely continue her dental care there for now.

Fantastic experience: This was my son's first visit. The staff and dentist were all so friendly and kind. They were also very efficient. The office was very clean. I would highly recommend this dental office.

Fantastic experience: I can not say enough nice things about this office. From the front desk, to the back and everywhere in between the staff are very kind, helpful, and welcoming. Dr. Manchery is DEFINITELY in the right field. His compassion, and empathy are unmatched. My kids feel comfortable during every minute of their visits and as a parent I never feel dismissed. He explains everything as he is doing it, and is always making sure they are ok, and comfortable. If you are in need of a dentist for your children I recommend this place time and time again ❤️

Fantastic experience: My family is new to Gastonia, and this was our first time visiting South Gaston Pediatric Dentistry. The staff were so warm and welcoming, and Dr. Manchery was wonderful with my son. It was also my son’s very first filling, and Dr. Manchery made him feel completely comfortable throughout the process. I really appreciated how he reviewed his checkup in detail and took the time to explain his X-ray. We’ve been there twice now—once for a routine checkup and once for the filling—and both experiences were excellent.

Fantastic experience: We had such a wonderful experience bringing our 1-year-old in for his very first dental appointment! Dr. Manchery and Carrie were both amazing—so patient, gentle, and kind. They took the time to make sure our little one felt comfortable, and they explained everything clearly to us as parents. Carrie was especially sweet and made the whole visit fun and stress-free. Dr. Manchery was very thorough and gave us helpful tips for keeping our son’s teeth healthy as he grows. I couldn’t have asked for a better first dental visit—it really set the tone for positive experiences in the future. Highly recommend this office for anyone with young children!

Fantastic experience: My kids have been going here for 6 years now. We asked to switch doctors and Dr. Manchery is amazing. Along with his staff Jaelyn, Carrie, & Brittany are amazing❣️I took my 6, 3, & 1 year olds on and they complimented on how good my kids were doing. They took time and didn’t rush things. Absolutely amazing.

Negative experience: Brought my son for an appointment.. drove an hour and a half They didn’t even want to try to do any work on my son‘s teeth without general anesthesia. The reason we decided to even come here is because they offered the laughing gas. The dentist had a huge attitude the minute I declined the general anesthesia, he said it’s unlikely he will want to come back after we do a first round on him, I said there was no way to know if he would tolerate just the gas or not unless they tried. He HATED that. But I don’t care I’m not putting my 4 year old son under General anesthesia to fix cavities. Anyways, he said they’ll try to do one cavity with the gas. As soon as they put it on him and laid him down, I had to run to the car for a single minute to grab something. I came back. My son was happily watching the screen on the ceiling and they said that they wouldn’t work on him. I said why not? He said that as soon as he brought his tools out that my four year-old son put his hand up from discomfort. Are you joking me??? Obviously, you’re messing with his teeth he’s never had a procedure done like this before. He wasn’t crying or anything. Not even a peep from him. My son is four and talks very well. I asked him after if it was painful he said not really. I said did you let them touch your teeth and he said yeah I was being very good. Anyways, I walked out of there and they locked the door right away. I realized they just lied and pretended they would try to do some work when reality they all wanted to leave work because it was already 5pm. The dentist was an Indian looking guy I forgot his name. Originally he seemed nice but the moment we didn’t want to do the extra stuff, He was not cool at all. Huge waste of time at this dentist. It’s unfortunate because it seems like they have a lot of good reviews, but it was an absolute terrible experience for us. I would never come back here. They did not make me feel welcome whatsoever. They were being so pushy with the general anesthesia. I literally wanted to cry right then and there.. they’ve seen how uncomfortable it was for me, but they still continued to push and push. As a parent, it is hard to make these kind of decisions as is and we always want to try to do what’s best for them first… at least to try the safer alternative route. I’m not a person that puts reviews if it’s a bad one. EVER. But if a medical professional makes me feel like I want to burst into tears.. I just have no other choice.

Fantastic experience: Our visit was perfect, the dental assistant that checked my 2 year olds teeth was very patient and kind with my son, the dentist himself was also very gentle and patient, afterwards they complimented us on how well behaved he was, all around it was a wonderful visit and we look forward to a follow up

Fantastic experience: Good place for children and parents. The workers who helped my child were very nice, he gets nervous during x-rays and cleaning and they looked for different options for him to feel comfortable.

Negative experience: Update: Received a call from the practice manager regarding my review. Was told parking lot camera could be reviewed to confirm if we were there the whole time, which I welcome. Was told there would be coaching for the staff member. Also advised the signature was needed because my sons treatment plan was changed, which was not brought up before he was treated, but after. Per this manager, the policy is that parents must wait inside the building, which again I previously received the go ahead for and with no issues. Also has been fine at our previous ped dental office as long as you were in front of the building doors (which we were). Apparently if a child were to fall and hit their head and become injured, being inside their waiting room vs the 5 steps outside the door will be the difference between life and death. Despite the request to remove or edit my honest review of our experience, I will not change my account to support ratings. However, I will add that aside from this negative interaction, we found all the other staff to be friendly and professional. The girl at the desk while we were checking out had a really nasty attitude. My son had a filling appointment at 4:20. There were several families still waiting. He was called back after 4:40. As soon as he was called back I left to wait in my car the same as I had done a few weeks ago for treatment 1. I had actually asked before doing this since we were new to this practice and told it was no problem just dont leave the lot. I was parked directly in front of the door in the handicap space and saw all the staff leaving around 5. Ultimately my exs parter showed up at 5:08 to swap out with me and 4 minutes later she was calling to ask me to come back because the lady was being rude when she spoke to her, saying she could not take him and she wasnt authorized to get his paperwork. I had only gotten in front of the Y and was back in 3 minutes. Inside the woman rudely attempted to scold me about how I wasnt allowed to leave. My son is 14 years old, so certainly old enough to recognize his circle and we did this same thing a few weeks back with 0 issues. She picked him up at the previous visit after we swapped parking spaces in front of the door. I told the lady multiple times that I had in fact never left before his other trusted adult arrived and she still huffed about it as if she wasnt the one with the unncessary attitude. Not sure if she was angry to still be there past 5 or if that is her regular attitude but it is not okay.

Fantastic experience: This office is incredibly warm and efficient! They offer a safe and caring environment for the Littles and parents alike. The doctor and staff (Brittany Gilliam) all contributed greatly to our positive experience!

Negative experience: Update: office manager reached out and was kind and concerned about this issue. However I dont think its appropriate to ask me if there's anything that could be done to change my review. They're not following safe handwashing which is basic practice and therefore violating OSHA rules. This morning I took two of my children for their cleanings and saw zero hand washing. None before each doctor and assistant put on gloves or took gloves off. This is highly concerning. Going from using pens, writing paperwork, touching computers to grabbing a pair of gloves, putting them on and then touching my children's mouth doesn't seem like proper practice. Ive worked in food service for years and you always clean hands before putting on gloves. And anytime i've been in any other doctor's office, doctors always wash their hands before and after dealing with a patient. While this is completely unsanitary, the people who work here are not very personable either. We will be looking for a new practice.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Manchery was literally AMAZING. My daughter is 8 & I was a little nervous to take her in for a filling due to dental trauma I went through as a kid. He went above & beyond to make her feel comfortable. He cheered her on the whole time, explaining what he was doing- in kid terms ofcourse. She didnt even squeeze my hand or cry with the numbing shot. You can tell he truly cares about his job & taking care of the little people. Madison his assistant was also amazing. Thank you for being so kind to my girl today

Fantastic experience: My daughter is 5 and is EXTREMELY stressed out and nervous about getting her teeth cleaned and losing it before anything even starts. Courtney did an amazing job! She didn't give up on her and had nothing but patience. Got everything done, which is a huge step for us. I highly recommend Courtney as a hygienist!

Fantastic experience: My daughter had a very loose tooth that needed to be pulled because her adult tooth was already coming in. She was in lots of pain! Courtney did an amazing job comforting her through the process. Courtney was great with my kids, she continuously laughed and joked with them while also providing dental hygiene education to them. Negative experience: A loooot of talking down to parents. And very doom-and-gloom prognoses for your littles, especially considering they're baby teeth...

Fantastic experience: They are the absolute best dentistry around!!!! We drive an hour round trip to come here because the staff are so wonderful and accommodating with my children especially my nonverbal daughter who was on the spectrum. I highly recommend them to everyone and I want to give a huge thank you to our hygienist Courtney for calming my nervous little boy and making his visit enjoyable.

My child was nervous, of course, but Dr. Mandee made her feel extra comfortable and talked to her the whole time as they were working on her teeth. Really appreciate that. Fantastic experience: My son had his 2nd dentist visit here and we had the pleasure of being assisted by Ms.Paris. She was professional and patient with him and talked him through the whole cleaning and X-ray process to keep him calm. They also have a movie playing above their head to keep them engaged. I highly recommend for parents with toddlers! Update, Courtney addressed a recent concern of mine and was very caring! My son enjoys the TV while getting his teeth cleaned.

The room was exceptionally clean, and any staff that we encountered were very friendly. I will definitely be recommending them to friends and family!

Dr Cooke has been my son's Dentist since he was 2 years old and is very patient with children who experience anxiety. Fantastic experience: Maddie and Carrie did a great job caring for my two children under four years old. They were patient and friendly. The other girls who helped with X-rays were also helpful. My kids had a great experience and were happy and calm throughout the dentist session.

Fantastic experience: My son has extreme anxiety and when he comes here he always does great because the staff take their time and make sure he is comfortable and knows what they are doing before they do it. We saw Dr. Mandie and Maddie today and they were wonderful. My son said he likes when Maddie cleans his teeth because she is gentle.

Fantastic experience: The staff I encountered during my visit, namely Dr. Mandie, Maddie, Ismar, and Carrie, were extremely attentive and timely. Everything always goes smoothly here and they make appointments swiftly and on the spot with no complications. I am always pleased with the service here and will continue to come to them for my children.

Fantastic experience: We love courthey, she is so patient with my 4 yr old. Everyone is so friendly and supportive and great with kids.

Negative experience: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE- UNLESS YOU WANT TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN AND ENJOY SETTING YOUR MONEY ON FIRE. THE QUESTIONABLE CARE PRACTICES I brought my three children, ages 4-15, in for cleanings and exams... They said they took my insurance. They failed to mention that my insurance only covers cleanings and exams. Anything extra is considered out of network and not covered. They presented me with a $3500 treatment plan for my 4-year-old. A plan that was for four crowns and over $1300 in nitrous. I suspected that the treatment plan was too aggressive for what was going on with my son's teeth. I had to find a different dentist who took my insurance because my insurance covers everything 100%. THE CALL CENTER THAT KNOWS NOTHING I called South Gaston the day before our appointment with the new dentist to get my son's records. I got connected with a call center that all have intelligible accents. They informed me I would receive a text message with which I could fill out a records release form. I was told they would email me the records as soon as I completed them. They failed to mention that my request would 1st have to be approved by the office manager before my records would be sent to me. The next day, when I was driving to the new dentist appointment, I checked to see if I had the records in my email. They were not there. I called the call center again, and that was when they told me that the manager had not approved the release yet. They would not connect me directly to the office to speak with the manager. Our appointment was two days ago, and I still have not received them. Needless to say, I had to pay out of pocket to get all new X-rays. DRILL HAPPY DENTIST = TRAUMA AND $$$$$$$ My son's teeth didn't need half the procedures this office wanted to do. This dentist briefly looked at the X-rays and recommended drilling and capping all 4 teeth that showed weak enamel. I specifically requested they not do a fluoride treatment, and when I checked out, I noticed that I was billed for all three of my children for fluoride. I don't know if they actually gave them fluoride, but they made sure to bill my insurance for it. not only did they do a procedure I did not approve, but they unlawfully billed my insurance for it. THE HEARTBREAK My 4-year-old son told me he hated the dentist on our way to the new dentist. As someone who also has had awful experiences with dentists, my heart raged for a little one who is already scared to go to the dentist (South Gaston was his first visit, by the way). EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY I write this review in hopes of preventing unsuspecting and trusting parents from being taken advantage of and preventing little ones from being traumatized to the point where they avoid receiving dental care as adults (as I have, and have paid dearly for) I also hope that the owner will do some deep reflection on the policies and practices in this place and evaluate their own values as a caretaker of children. Transparency, communication, ethical practices, proper training, and competent professionals are necessary for what you provide. SILVER LINING I am actually grateful that our experience here was as terrible as it was. It prompted me to do more research and led us to a fantastic Dentist who demonstrates exceptional competence and care for her patients. Her treatment plan was minimally invasive and reasonable. Her entire office was well-managed and knowledgeable. I didn't have to contend with a call center to get my questions answered or, worse, be misdirected or misinformed. She emailed me the next day to follow up, ensure my son was doing well, and address any questions or concerns regarding his upcoming visit. THE BEST PART? My son left the new dentist with a smile on his face and he said that he loved that dentist. SOUTH GASTON, DON'T APOLOGIZE TO ME AND DON'T PATRONIZE ME AS YOU HAVE DONE WITH THE OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. A MISTAKE DONE ONCE IS FORGIVABLE. PATTERNS OF LIES, MISREPRESENTATION AND MALPRACTICE ARE UNACCEPTABLE.

Fantastic experience: My son's first dental appointment was today and he was terrified due to some things said by a family member but Courtney was amazing and got him very comfortable and helped him with his fear. The dentist was amazing too and explained everything that they were going to do and will due in the future and it very much helped my son with his anxiety about the dentist. He actually asked if we could go back soon once we got home . 10/10 if your child has anxiety about dentists they are so caring and understanding and will do everything they can to make your child comfortable

Fantastic experience: It was my daughters first ever dental visit and Courtney made her feel super comfortable. Also I love that they make new patients feel extra special.

Fantastic experience: We’ve been bringing our son here since he was old enough to be seen, and we just left his 5yo visit (time really does fly!) Like with any kid, the pre-visit jitters were Intense today but just like they always do, the staff quickly turned today’s visit into not only “not scaawwweee anyymow, Momma” but also into an “I YYUVVV the dentisssth!” appt as well. Erica was our hygienist for the day and Maverick absolutely loved her. We were in and out in no time and also received a more than thorough cleaning and evaluation. I would recommend this place to anyone, any day!

Fantastic experience: We have had nothing but good experiences since starting with South Gaston. Aretha was so sweet and patient with my scared child. I cannot recommend this office enough.

Fantastic experience: This is my 2nd time my daughter’s coming to this dentist office and their Auntie Courtney cleaned their teeth and took their X-Rays! My oldest has nonverbal Autism and she made sure her niece (my daughter) was comfortable and calm before and while she cleaned her teeth. My youngest— talkative and ready to get her teeth cleaned and get treatment for her teeth— was happy (Aunt Courtney) was there with her! I’m so happy that my kids appointment went smoothly and they left with bright smiles! She really has her way with children! If you want anyone cleaning your children’s teeth— it’s Courtney!

Fantastic experience: I can’t say enough good things about our experience at this pediatric dental office. Not only are they incredibly efficient but their patient care is incredible. From the moment we walked in Carrie, Jackie, and Brianna were kind and patient putting both of my children and myself at ease. Dr. Manchery took the time to thoroughly explain both of their X-rays and their needs based on the findings. I felt confident in his recommended care based on the time he took to explain his reasoning. His beside manner with my children was playful and soothing. They were able to accommodate our further needs at this appointment time which was a relief to not have to drive back the next week or undergo multiple procedures on different days. In the words of my kids, “This was the best dentist ever!” They proceeded to rate this doctor and staff a “ten out of ten!” We will gladly drive an hour and a half for their incredible care! So grateful to have found our pediatric dentist for years to come!
