Negative experience: Parents Beware! Strike Three, They’re Out I do not like writing negative reviews, but since this business affects children, I felt compelled to share our experience. We chose Just for Grins because we used Dentistry for Children. We thought the partnering practices (family-shared business) with shared location, information, etc. would provide better care for our girls (A & E). Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for either practice. Strike One: The first red flag was with Dentistry for Children when we were told A had 5 cavities. (Covid restrictions had just been lifted. Businesses were reopening but parents had to stay in cars). She had no cavities during braces, so it made no sense to me that six months after they were removed, she had five. We went to two other dentists for their opinions. Neither could find ANY cavities -NONE. (A hasn’t had a cavity since). She would have had multiple shots and 5 teeth drilled on for nothing. Her sister E still had braces with Just for Grins, so we remained silent, hoped for the best but never went back. Strike Two: Two months before E’s braces were removed, during the fine-tuning stage, Dr. Schreiber put a brace too high on an upper central incisor (main tooth). We made an emergency visit and he repositioned it, but after needless pain for my daughter. To me this was a rookie mistake. Worse was his response to E. Barely acknowledged it and showed no sympathy or feeling for a child whose tooth was slowly being pulled out of her gum. The tooth never fully went back up. Schreiber filed it down to make it even with the other. Strike Three: Recently, A asked us why there was a gap between her upper and lower teeth on the right side. It has always been that way. We looked at the molds of her teeth made immediately after braces and were shocked to see that the bite on her right side were not aligned (back upper teeth are too far toward her cheek). Why were braces removed with her bite like that? Dr. Dunn examined her and said they had expected some settling. But how can teeth ‘settle’ in the correct position (if that’s even possible) when retainers made from a mold are keeping them in the wrong position? She acknowledged the only way to correct the problem was new braces or Invisalign and even waived the cost. However, Schreiber did aligners. Our visit for A’s Invisalign was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a ‘professional.’ The office was empty; there were no other patients at our midmorning appointment. I believe this was so Schreiber could defend his work and school my ignorance. He refused to look at her molds, said her bite was “textbook,” I didn’t know what I was talking about and his work was “damn good.” No explanation for her molds, retainers that don’t line up on one side (even I can do a simple comparison), his own colleague’s diagnosis, or the 12 Invisalign attachments they put on her teeth to fix a ‘nonexistent’ problem. Most importantly, no explanation for my daughter, now age 18, who told herself for years the doctors did the best they could but knew something wasn’t right. He did not say ONE WORD TO HER. He said to me, “I am doing this for you, mom. To make YOU happy.” Wrong answer. Not surprisingly, we got a second opinion. The new orthodontist saw the issues we saw and more (her lower back teeth lean inward, slight overjet/overbite). I’m confident he can do what’s best for her, but she is wearing braces – again. My heart breaks for her. It will cost us $$ but I would rather pay than have Schreiber treat her for free. Parents, please, please be careful. This review is for you. I wish so badly someone had written one for me. Children trust us to make the right decisions for them. Ask questions, listen, watch, be present and be involved. And if a doctor’s ego won’t allow you to do this, he may not be the one for your family. Good Luck!

I went back to just for grins to get my retainer removed but they showed me another angle to use so I don’t have to get it removed!
