Fantastic experience: I could not be more happy with my experience here. They were kind. They explained everything about what was happening to my tooth and the options. The day of the procedure they sufficiently numbed my gums so the shots and procedure caused minimal pain. I’m so happy I left my old dentist and found Commonwealth Endodontics.

Negative experience: I received a root canal treatment from your office approximately five years ago, for which I paid around $2,000. At a recent visit with my current dentist, I was informed that the original root canal was not completed properly and that I would need to have the procedure redone. After scheduling an appointment with your office, I was told I would receive an estimate by email within a few days. After waiting about a month without receiving anything, I called three days prior to my scheduled appointment to request the cost, since no estimate had been sent. During that call, I was given a price verbally and was told I would receive confirmation two days prior to my appointment. I also specifically requested that the estimate be emailed to me. Shortly after that call, I received an emailed estimate that was approximately double the price I had just been quoted over the phone. This inconsistency was very concerning and has caused me to question the transparency and reliability of the pricing information I was given. I would appreciate clarification regarding the pricing difference and an explanation of the original treatment outcome.

Fantastic experience: Got a root canal done with the Ather team (dr. Ather, Isaiah, and Hailey) and they were wonderful. I was nervous but the team was very kind and answered my questions and gave me a play-by-play. I highly recommend west end orthodontics.

Fantastic experience: My Root Canal experience was great. The assistant Isaiah was very friendly and made me feel more relaxed being I was nervous. Dr. Amber Ather was also very friendly and made this a painless experience I didn’t feel anything.

Negative experience: The dental care I received was good, but it was overshadowed by the fact that we were not informed that they were NOT IN NETWORK. We hold BCBS Anthem Dental coverage, not a run of the mill dental insurance. We would have scheduled the extraction elsewhere. When I set up the appointment, they asked for my dental coverage, which I gave, At that time they ETHICALLY SHOULD HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE NOT IN NETWORK. We then incurred several HUNDREDS of dollars' worth of unexpected charges!

Positive experience: Friendly, professional and talented. In right away, made sure all of my questions were answered and that I was comfortable. Their system contacted my emergency contact to confirm my appointment (not an emergency). Also sent the request to rate them to my “Emergency” contact. Else 5 stars

Fantastic experience: Although I was a little nervous about having a root canal, Dr Finkler has a calm demeanor and put me at ease. All went well and I am very grateful.

Fantastic experience: Appointment time late morning. Pop was called in once all paperwork was completed (which I forgot to complete online prior to appointment). All staff exceptional and professional with working with Pop. The Endodontist also was exceptional with his professional evaluation and explanation to Pop and I for the tooth care. What I most admired was the relaxed atmosphere once one enters into the business and the smiles and humor one can have in conversation with all. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: I had a root canal done by Dr. Ather at Commonwealth Endodontics. The procedure was efficient and substantially pain free. I was most impressed by Dr. Ather’s skills and his coordination with his assistant, Isaiah. If you need to have a root canal, I fully recommend Dr. Ather.

Fantastic experience: I met with Doctor Finkler to evaluate an issue with 2 teeth that my dentist thought needed root canal treatment. After a thorough exam he found that that wasn’t the problem and that the teeth hurt so bad because I was clinching my teeth putting stress on them and was causing the pain. He took a 3D X-ray to make sure all was well. I thank him for his honesty and was very nice to talk to and very competent. He let me know that I was welcome to call him with any future issues.

Mrs. Layne the sedation coordinator was also very nice and very understanding of my anxiety with getting my procedure. She also explained all my options and also made me feel at ease. Fantastic experience: Dr. Amber Ather is the best, I had my first ever experience with a toothache, a little bit over two weeks ago. I tell you it took me down for a few days I went to the VA emergency room, got some meds and got referred to Commonwealth Endodontics West End office. And the pain was history. I end up having a abscess removal and a root canal treatment. Came back for a follow today and everything was good to go. I really appreciate Dr. Ather and his team, they really took good care of me. I had a great experience eventhough it was from a toothache.

The follow up was equally fine and, a year later, the tooth has healed and the bone has regrown. I can’t think of a better outcome. I am delighted that Dr. Ather was able to save my tooth!

Fantastic experience: I can't recall ever receiving such amazing service at what can be a pretty tense appointment. From the moment I entered the front desk the staff was kind and welcoming. The dental assistant noticed something in my initial xrays that I wanted to pay attention to and I got focused X-rays for something that ultimately ended up being necessary. (Side note : my main dentist was really impressed with the quality of the 3D style x-rays the office took) The doctor was really patient with me when I had a hard time accepting my diagnosis and explained my options really well. Twice with humor bc I didn't want to believe I had to get a tooth extracted. And also a root canal retreated :( I had to wait a little longer than expected and the staff was really kind about the doctor going over. All in all, Dr. Ather let me grieve the loss of my #29 and the staff and Dr. Ather were amazing and informative and helpful and I appreciate the attention to detail and great customer service. I feel better about having to come back, I know I will be in good caring hands. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Dr. Finkler at CWE by the Va Dental Asn. Everyone was very kind, very helpful and professional. I was in a lot pain. I came in for the consultation and they were able to fit me in that morning for a root canal. I was in & out of there in less than 2 hours. Everything healed up great. Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience. Anxiety gets the better of me and the thought that I'm there cuts down to my soul. Asia? talked me off the ledge, her voice was calm and soothing. I told myself that as soon as they weren't looking I was gonna slip out the door. Man was I nervous, she came to the lobby and sat with me. Then it was my turn. The young lady who took me back, knew I had issues, she was warm and gentle as well (can't remember her name. Dr. Finkler came in with mask on, I said hey, you look like Dr. Bottoms, he said we have the same barber ( both bald and you only see their head and eyes). Test were done...Yay, no root canal needed, boy was I relieved. I hope I never see any of them again, but if I had to, they would definitely be my choice. Customer is very very important and they brought it!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Timothy Finkler retreated a cracked molar root canal from over a decade ago. Was nervous/concerned since original procedure resulted in a weekend with the worst pain I've ever experienced, and no way to even contact that doctor - they went on a weekend retreat. Fast forward to Dr. Finkler - no pain after anesthetic wore off, Tylenol and Advil only needed for one day after (two times) - and was even given a cell phone number to contact in case any pain did start!!! Have never had any doctor make themselves this available to a patient before! God bless him for the amazing treatment that resulted in relieving pain and not causing any additional pain typical with this kind of treatment. There was not even any discomfort after - Thank you!

Positive experience: The office staff is very nice but I always feel like the practice is more concerned with your payment than your health and well being. On this visit, I was having pain in a tooth which had previously been treated and was charged a significant fee to be advised to have the tooth extracted-a service that this practice does not provide.

Fantastic experience: The entire office was an absolute pleasure to be served by. From Dr. Ather & Kayla, who took great care of my issue, to each of the front desk staff I interacted with, I felt my pain and treatment plan was of the utmost concern. Fantastic experience: I had a great experience with Dr. Finkler and everyone I came across! I was very scared to have a root canal and very worried about being pressured into the procedure. I started at the Charlottesville location for a consultation. Up to that point, I was in extreme pain in my upper and lower jaw, ear, and tooth. I called around, in tears, and no one could see me except them. Julia on the phone was incredible and helpful. She put it all in motion. I got an appointment with Dr. Morris for the consult who found my bad tooth. Dr. Finkler saw me same day in Richmond for the root canal. He explained everything, was thorough: taking multiple images through the procedure to make sure my roots were properly taken care of, and caring! I don’t tolerate numbing with epinephrine very well and he listened! Overall, great experience and my pain is minimal; zero pain at the tooth although my jaw joint bilaterally is very sore due to my TMJ. My severe pain is completely gone. I’m so thankful for them and would recommend them to anyone!!

Fantastic experience: It was my first visit and had great experience. I had to wait a little longer for my treatment appointment as some other patient had an emergency but the front desk team made sure I am well informed about the delay and Iam glad that Dr Timothy Finkler didn’t cancel my appointment and finished my treatment. Fantastic experience: My daughter has a lot of dental anxiety and had to have a root canal very quickly due to pain and swelling. Dr. Ather was wonderful with her! He talked to her about what he was doing and even about what she was most anxious about. He was very patient with her! Leta and Kayla were also wonderful with her and talked her through everything, held her hand and kept her calm. They let her listen to music on her headphones while they worked and gave her a stress ball to hold. This stressed out mom appreciated them SO much! I would highly recommend this office!!!

Fantastic experience: Recently, I needed a root canal after a crown was put in by my dentist. I am so phobic regarding dentistry to begin with, but Dr. Ather and his assistant, Kayla, were true artists in their field. Not only were they comforting to my high anxiety, but their professionalism, demeanor, and skill all around made this an experience I may not dread if I ever need their services again. Fantastic experience: This was my first root canal, and I was nervous. The care and professionalism of the endodontist, the assistant, and the staff were exceptional. There was no discomfort and an incredible relief to get rid of the toothache. I would not hesitate to repeat the procedure.

Positive experience: I do not think it negatively impacted my care, but since I am paying the equivalent of $10K per hour for their services I would like a "sterile cockpit" approach, with no extraneous conversations between the dentist and assistant during my visit.

Fantastic experience: Great experience. Staff was detailed from day 1 of getting evaluated. Booking appointment is easy stress free. Billing calls ahead of time to let you know the cost of the appointment. Smooth process the day of appointment, as they don’t have you waiting long in the waiting area. Get right to work wasting no time. Dr. Ather is amazing and I love his personality. If you’re nervous it will go away as everyone makes you feel right at home. Instructions are given by the doctor on aftercare and you are given papers to help remember what was said. I love how I was shown what work was done that day on my tooth as well. I highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I had to have a lot of work done at Commonwealth Endodontics ten years ago, and Dr Finkler took great care of doing numerous root canals on my teeth at that time. I was extremely impressed with his knowledge, his kind manner, and his overall professional handling of my issues. His staff was also fabulous at that time. However, I had to go for a consultation yesterday, and just had to go back to Dr Finkler today for his expertise in dealing with another uncomfortable issue! I found myself quite surprised that the office staff was not just good, but they had even improved, which I had not thought could be possible! They were friendly, uplifting, eager to answer any questions I had, and made me feel welcomed and very comfortable! Also, Dr Finkler only demonstrated further why I was excited to have him as my Endodontist once again! He welcomed my questions and explained and showed me on X-rays exactly what he found was wrong and his plan of action to fix it. He asked numerous times during the procedure if I were OK. Of course I was, but his caring spirit sure gave me comfort!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Finkler is truly amazing. If you ever have anxiety going to the dentist, you will never have this with Dr. Finkler. I recently had some restorative work done by him and his team and I can’t believe I’m saying that it was the most relaxing and professional experience I’ve ever had with a root canal. Fantastic experience: Dr. Finkler is extremely patient, kind, and trustworthy. As a disabled veteran it is extremely difficult to find healthcare professionals that are willing to except community healthcare from the VA. This man went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that my procedure went well and I was in no discomfort. I am forever grateful and honestly, I love him; professionally of course.

Fantastic experience: First time visit today for my 12 year old daughter. She was very nervous and is on the spectrum. We had a wonderful experience. Dr. Finkler and all the staff were very kind and sensitive to my daughter. Everything was explained in great detail and was I very comfortable about the next steps. Negative experience: Painful experience, incredibly overpriced along with lack of empathy or emotional kindness. It felt very robotic and the lack of concern for my fears and nerves was disappointing. No wonder people are fearful of the dental work! I will be searching for another office if I need to have future work done.

Fantastic experience: Dr Vaughn and his assistant were both kind and knowledgeable of my situation. The root canal was completed today. The procedure was explained to me step by step clearly so I could understand.

Negative experience: During 2-3 phone calls, I was given an estimate for the work I needed done. My insurance was checked, and she gave me a price. On my way to my appointment a few days later, as I was driving another person called to give me a totally different price, of over $1000.00 more. Which I would have to pay that day. So I had to cancel. This was a terrible experience. I would not recommend them.

Fantastic experience: The clinic was clean, the front office staff was very friendly, and the Dr. Finkler and his assistant were knowledgeable, patient, and efficient with my appointment. They reassured me everything was going to be quick and easy, and it was. They even squeezed in my root canal which was quick and surprisingly painless after the scheduled consultation. I had a pleasant experience.

Fantastic experience: I was a last minute patient and everyone was kind and helpful. Dr. Flinker was so easy to talk to and super helpful for the next course of action for my painful tooth. All the ladies up front was sweet and helpful also. I would highly recommend anyone that needed it!

Negative experience: If I could give a zero star rating, I would I got referred to come here for a root canal after already being evaluated once before told I had to be evaluated again so that they knew what tooth needed the root canal with myself and them already knowing which tooth needed it. I feel totally scammed. I paid $500 for them to tell me I needed a root canal on the same tooth me and the dentist that referred me to told them and still wasn’t able to get the root canal done need this to say I’ll be taking my business somewhere else

Fantastic experience: Needed a root canal diagnosed on a Monday morning and Commonwealth Endo was able to get me in Tuesday morning with Dr Vaughan. Staff was very friendly and professional. Dr Vaughan performed the procedure in about hour and half. Thanks for the help! Feel a great deal better.

Fantastic experience: I called Commonwealth Endodontics after the endodontists at my dentist's office couldn't get me in for another month or two just for a consultation. Commonwealth Endodontists got me in the very next day, and the scheduling receptionist was very personable, friendly, and empathetic to my situation. I went to the West End location and the office was very nice. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. I had a consultation with Dr. Ather who confirmed that I needed a root canal. I scheduled the root canal and checked out with Hope, who was also amazing, and could get me in within the next day. Right before I pulled out of the parking lot, Hope called and told me that they could do the root canal right then and there, so I went ahead and got it over with. I really wish I remembered Dr. Ather's hygienist's name, because she was absolutely amazing. Professional, intelligent, personable...the list goes on. I wish I could've given her a tip at the end! Dr. Ather was also very professional and empathetic. They made sure I was comfortable and didn't feel any pain. Today is the day after my procedure and I can finally drink room temperature water without sensitivity. I highly recommend Commonwealth Endodontics if you need a root canal that can't wait, or just in general. I wish every practice was like them.

Fantastic experience: Dentist and dental hygienist that took care of me were amazing. I needed a root canal and they were so kind and knowledgeable. It's a very beautiful location and the interior is amazing. It felt comfortable, structured, and safe. I appreciated having that feeling before being called for my turn. The only con at have is that this was an urgent, unexpected cost to me and I had to pay upfront. I can understanding why though. I was recommended to come here by my dentist because my dentist was fully booked and this was an urgent and sudden need. So I would recommend this location based on the feel of the building, the quality service I received, and the care they took to accommodate me on short notice (less than 6 hours).

Fantastic experience: I was in the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life and I was treated very well by all members of the team. Dr. Vaughan did a great job explaining every step of the process and why what he was doing was necessary. This practice also saw my daughter when she knocked her tooth out and we had a great experience with them at that time too. I would certainly recommend Dr. Finkler or Dr. Vaughan to anyone needing an endodontist.

Fantastic experience: Friendly, no long wait, isolated the problems quickly, and explained it all clearly. An appointment to correct the problems was set for 4 days after this one. Couldn't have worked out better. I was back home in less than an hour.

Fantastic experience: Even though I had to have a root canal, it wasn't a bad experience. Dr. Vaughn took his time to explain everything to me. The procedure itself was relatively easy for me, I even kept falling asleep, but would wake myself up by snoring; embarrassing!!! I am confident that the work done here is very well done and I don't expect any difficulties from having had this procedure.

Fantastic experience: Great Endodontist! Very friendly and professional. They explained everything in advance and then again each step of the way. This was my first root canal ever, just before my 53rd birthday. They put me at ease and made me feel very comfortable through the whole process. Dr. Finkler even called me personally the following day to check in on me. I highly recommend this office!
